Nestville Park

Nestville Park

Hniezdne

Nestville Park in Hniezdne is among the youngest museums in the Stará Ľubovňa district. It was established in 2012 along with the exhibition of distilling and traditional folk crafts, Nestville Distillery. The name itself was created by combining two English words, nest and ville, which translates to the village of Hniezdne. Come and see the home of the first Slovak whisky, and at the same time, tour one of the most modern alcohol refineries in Central Europe.

The Nestville Distillery exhibition is divided into three parts. The historical part is dedicated to demonstrations of folk crafts closely linked to distilling. The modern part will guide you through the refinery, where more than 35,000 tons of grain are processed annually. Located in the traditional or tasting part is one of the largest hand-carved wooden reliefs in Europe, crafted by local woodcarvers. It is precisely in this section that the maturation warehouses of Nestville Whisky are situated. At the end of the tour, you can treat your taste buds and sample Nestville Whisky or unpasteurized and unfiltered craft beer, Nestville Beer.

After the tour of Nestville Distillery, visit the chocolate kingdom of Nestville Chocolate. As the only chocolate shop in the region, it offers you this sweet delicacy in the highest quality. Sit back over a cup of hot chocolate or quality coffee and taste delicious Belgian pralines, fabulous homemade desserts, or delightful chocolate liqueur. While enjoying your sweet treat, you can watch the chocolate production process through glass.

At Nestville Park, they have also thought of your children, who will experience plenty of fun at a large, modern playground. A rope pyramid, slides, climbing frames, spring rockers, a tube slide, trampolines, and many other play features await them.

They won't leave you hungry here either. You can have lunch at the Nestville Taberna restaurant, which also houses a craft brewery. The unique "farm to table" concept will enhance the culinary experience of the served specialties.

After a great lunch, you can rent e-bikes and electric scooters at Nestville Rent and ride around the surrounding area. You can then swap the bike saddle for horseback and enjoy horseback riding at the Nestville Horses equestrian area. A lovely keepsake of this great day can be a souvenir purchased at the Exposhop.

Primaciálny palác

Primaciálny palác

Bratislava

Did you know that Primaciálny palác in Bratislava – Staré Mesto is among the most sought-after attractions in Bratislava? This landmark takes the breath away of visitors and locals alike thanks to its architecture. The 18th-century Neoclassical palace is the current seat of the mayor of the capital of Slovakia, and its designated areas serve as exhibition spaces for the city gallery.

In the historical core of the city, Cardinal Jozef Batthyány had the most magnificent and largest palace of the Hungarian Kingdom era built. Under the guidance of Viennese architect Melchior Hefele, this vision was successfully completed in 1818. An extraordinarily impressive appearance, a fantastic location, and its historical moments multiply the value of the palace. In addition to coronations, the Peace of Pressburg was signed here in the 18th century. Today, the palace serves as the city hall.

The exterior of the palace is beautiful. Along with many elements, you can notice a unique façade, the stone coat of arms of Archbishop Batthyány, or admire colossal statues placed in a symmetrical arrangement alongside four vases. The Fontána sv. Juraja fountain in the courtyard will also capture your interest. Upon stepping inside, you will feel like you are in a fairytale. There are beautiful spaces of the picture gallery, period-furnished lounges, and views into the grand Zrkadlová sieň, which today is used for city council meetings, concerts, or other events. You can rent space for a wedding, reception, conference, coffee break, cocktail, banquet, wine reception, or a socially significant event.

The overall experience of the interior will be enhanced by Kaplnka sv. Ladislava. Come to a mass on one of the Sundays and experience your spiritual moment here. Among the most valuable exhibits of the palace is a set of 6 wall tapestries with a 17th-century mythological motif, located in 5 lounges of the northern palace wing. These English royal tapestries possess enormous value. Visit the premises of this former luxurious archbishop's residence during opening hours from Tuesday to Sunday and soak up its amazing atmosphere. You might even start considering ordering suitable accommodation near Primaciálny palác in Bratislava – Staré Mesto. After all, there is truly a lot to see in two or three days.

In the evening, you can go listen to many beautiful musical works by authors from all over the world at Slovenská filharmónia. It is located in Starý Smokovec, in the oldest settlement of the town of Vysoké Tatry. In this enchanting place, you will experience a journey through Slovakia through tricks and illusions. You will get to know the themes of Slovak folk tales and fairy tales, as well as distinct villages and picturesque castles of Slovakia, through a interplay between the artist and your senses. In Tricklandia, these works will act on your brain to create original sensory illusions. Believe nothing and try to reveal as many tricks as possible. We wish you great fun.

Tricklandia was built in the Tatras over precisely one year, and its founders worked a total of 9,600 hours during that time. A total of 6 m³ of wood and 9,600 screws were used for construction. The biggest attraction of Vlastivedné múzeum, especially for the youngest visitors, is the life-size mammoth replica.

Múzeum Čadca offers you a modern smart exhibition Dejiny Čadce a okolia. The exhibition is thematically divided into five parts: História Čadce a okolitých obcí, Horelický poklad, Osobnosti mesta, Židovská komunita v Čadci, and Priemysel a hospodárstvo. Visitors have the opportunity to admire many physically displayed collection items, which are appropriately complemented by modern elements, touchscreens with a rich content of documentary materials, photographs, or postcards in the form of an interactive table and two infokiosks dedicated to prominent personalities. Among the most precious artifacts of the exhibition is undoubtedly a representative selection of 250 historical coins from the so-called Horelický poklad and rare judaica reflecting the life and religion of the once numerous Jewish community in Čadca. In the final part of the exhibition, visitors can sit down and watch short documentary videos and photographs capturing the socialist era and the existence of large manufacturing plants such as Tatra or Okrasa.

In addition to the permanent exhibition, Múzeum Čadca also offers changing exhibitions focused primarily on child visitors. Companion activities in the form of creative workshops are prepared for each exhibition.

Ľudovít Fulla spent the last years of his life in this apartment.

However, exhibitions and displays are not the only attraction of this Liptov gallery. Many visitors are appealed by the rich offer of a regular program tailored to art lovers both young and old. You can create your own work of art in the Ateliér, where various art techniques and procedures are prepared for visitors. Motifs following the ongoing exhibition and permanent exhibition are offered as inspiration. For families with children, the gallery offers the permanent program Famíliaart. The opportunity for creative leisure time is also offered by creative workshops for adults and older children called Ručne stručne or the creative journalistic workshop Fullakuk. Music and film lovers will also find something to their liking at regularly held concerts called Hudba u Fullu or at Kino u Fullu, which screens alternative film documentaries once a month.

A particularly interesting part of the exhibition is the complete process of flax processing, canvas and rug production. An interesting exhibit is a steamer trunk as evidence of the emigration wave that took place at the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century. The intention of the entire exhibition is to show today's modern people traditional farm life, customs, and traditions of the people in this village

An interesting fact is that the museum in Brezovica was established on the initiative of local activists. They managed to acquire the management of the former mansion, in which the exhibition currently resides. Period items and exhibits were donated to the museum by the villagers directly from their homes. The tour of the exhibition and the photo mini-gallery is free of charge. If you are interested in a journey into the history of this village, we recommend arranging a date in advance by phone or email.

Ľudové múzeum is proof of the respect of its founders and local residents for the life and heritage of their ancestors. You can combine the tour of the exhibition in winter with family skiing at the popular Dubovica – Žliabky resort, and in the summer season with refreshment, relaxation, and water fun at Aquapark Lipany. A wonderful space for a walk and relaxation with family in nature is offered by the nearby Rožkovianske rybníky ponds. An original attraction called Lačnovská gravitačná anomália can then be found in the territory of the nearby village of Lipovce, on the way to the Zlá diera cave. The ball is said to roll uphill here. Is that really so? Come and see for yourself.

The attractions of the Šariš region are truly diverse. Expozícia filmu Obchod na korze a Múzeum

Expozícia filmu Obchod na korze a Múzeum

Sabinov

Šariš is a wonderful region of Slovakia. Among its gems is undoubtedly the Expozícia filmu Obchod na korze a Múzeum exhibition and museum, located directly in Sabinov. After all, who wouldn't know the legendary Czechoslovak film Obchod na korze (The Shop on Main Street), which won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film in 1965? Such a success was recorded for the very first time in the era of our cinematography back then.

The exhibition has been open to tourists since 2006, when the opening ceremony was attended by the wife of Mr. Ladislav Grosman, the author and screenwriter of this world-renowned picture. The main role featured Jozef Kroner, whose life-sized bronze cast statue of character Tóno Brtko now adorns the local Námestie slobody square. It serves as a reminder of the movie's message that freedom is not a given; it is a gift and a privilege worth standing up and fighting for. We must not forget this thought, and you can also sensitively explain a part of our history here to your children that belongs among the sadder and more painful ones. The exhibition is open on weekdays, and the town's cultural and information center operates alongside it.

Why specifically Sabinov? Because this famous film was shot right in this East Slovak town. In the permanent exhibition, in addition to the original script, props and photographs reminding visitors of the work during filming are prepared for you. Here you will also find written correspondence between the inhabitants of Sabinov and the filmmakers, a manuscript, foreign language translations of the work, and excerpts from the film constantly projected on the screen in the background, completing the authentic atmosphere of this place. The author of the work, Ladislav Grosman, still closely watches over the events in the museum through his likeness in the form of a bust. Juraj Navrátil also donated a record with the film's main theme song to the museum, and the author's wife contributed photographs, documents, and study transcripts that will guide you through the life of this brilliant screenwriter. The residents of Sabinov contributed as well, revealing their perspective on the filming through various written stories and experiences.

It is certainly worth staying longer in this region and exploring its hidden corners. Accommodation around the Expozícia filmu Obchod na korze a Múzeum is available to you in various forms. Lovely cottages, guesthouses, apartments, and hotels in the Prešovský region will provide you with a pleasant base so you can discover the beauties of Eastern Slovakia. Hike up to Kamenický hrad, which stands guard over the village of Kamenica, where you can also take a walk along the adjacent educational trail. You can also explore the beautiful nature of Čergov in a slightly less traditional way, on horseback, which they will gladly arrange for you at Farma Kamenica. During the summer season, you can refresh yourself at the Kúpalisko Sabinov swimming pool or at AQUApark Lipany. In winter, skiers will appreciate the proximity of the ski resorts Ski Drienica and Lysá Ski Resort.

Horehronské múzeum Brezno

Horehronské múzeum Brezno

Brezno

In the Heart of Slovakia, in the Horehronské podolie basin lined by the wall of the Nízke Tatry mountains in the north and the ridges of the Slovenské Rudohorie in the south, lies the Brezno district. One of the most interesting places in this region from a cultural and historical perspective is undoubtedly the rectangular Námestie generála M. R. Štefánika square in the center of the district town. It is precisely here that the historical buildings of the Horehronské múzeum v Brezne museum are located. One of the oldest museums in Slovakia boasts an impressive collection of over 30,000 objects. Through its interesting exhibitions, it introduces visitors to the history and culture of the population of upper Pohronie.

The museum has three facilities. It has its headquarters in the beautiful historic town hall on the Brezno square. The building itself, with its lunette and sail vaults, exudes times past. It was built in 1770 through the reconstruction of an older Renaissance building. The museum's second facility is the town house No. 13, standing on two separate plots of ground-floor 16th-century houses. The third and final building of the museum is a peasant-craftsman homestead on Rázusova street. In its premises, the unique blueprinting technique of master Ján Roštár and a horse-driven wooden mangle from the early 19th century have been preserved. In simple terms, it can be called the largest iron in Slovakia. It consists of a wooden tub filled with stones, under which cylinders with linen were placed. It will surely convince visitors that ironing today is a walk in the park.

The exhibition section of the museum consists of three separate collections. The first of them, titled Život a kultúra ľudu na Horehroní (Life and Culture of the People in Horehronie), is situated in the town hall. It introduces visitors to traditional culture, which has almost disappeared from the real life of the Horehronie people. It includes period objects representing folk clothing, sheep farming, agriculture, forestry, woodworking, textile production, leather processing, and folk architecture. The gem of this exhibition is undoubtedly a representative display of the ironworks in Hronec titled Krása liatiny a smaltu (The Beauty of Cast Iron and Enamel).

The second exhibition part of the museum, Brezno in the Changes of Time, is prepared for visitors in a renovated town house. Through the historical collection, it presents the history of the town of Brezno from its origin to the end of the First World War. Here you will learn about important personalities of Brezno whose work contributed to the progress and development of social, political, and cultural life in the town.

The last exhibition of the Horehronské múzeum is Literary Brezno, located in the renovated premises of the old granary at the Evangelical rectory. Here you can get acquainted with the history of literary life in the town, the life and work of Martin Rázus, and with important literary figures from the mid-17th century.

If, during your travels around Slovakia, you also visit the heart of our beautiful country, make sure not to miss the opportunity to get to know its cultural and historical heritage. And when you visit Brezno, go for a walk underground in the nearby village of Bystrá. Located here is the Bystrianska jaskyňa, typical for its narrow and high corridors and the huge, 56-meter-deep abyss Peklo. Another major attraction of Horehronie is the Čiernohronská železnica railway, which in the past served to haul timber. Visitors enjoy combining a trip in open carriages with a tour of the Lesnícky skanzen Vydrovo open-air forestry museum. If you have been thinking about a holiday in Horehronie for a long time, it is time to turn your ideas into reality. Book your accommodation near the Horehronské múzeum v Brezne and set off across the region for new experiences. Accommodation in Brezno boasts affordable guesthouses and picturesque cottages and chalets in the immediate surroundings.

Bethlenov dom is a place where all residents of Banská Bystrica contemplate. This is because exhibitions from their local collection as well as borrowed works from other galleries take place here. The spaces are thus regularly filled and enrich the souls of all visitors. A unique feature of the gallery is artistic printmaking, the art of graphics from the second half of the 20th century. This collection is complete. The Stredoslovenská galéria, of which Bethlenov dom is also a part, focuses mainly on the presentation, research, and creation of a collection of modern and contemporary art.

Bethlenov dom consists of an entrance room and an exhibition space on the ground floor. On the upper floor, the exhibition spaces are vaulted with historical arches. A specific genius loci can thus be felt here. In the basement, groups dedicated to fine art will find something for themselves, where they can create art themselves and express themselves creatively. In the rear part of the gallery, in the library, you will find knowledge hidden in books that have been gathered here over decades.

The history of the gallery dates back to the 14th century, when a multi-story house was added to the originally tower-like burgher structure. At the entrance, a Latin inscription Benedicto domini divites facit 1610 is preserved, which in free translation means: The blessing of the Lord makes you rich. A tradition is linked to the house that Gabriel Bethlen had himself crowned as the King of Hungary here. Unfortunately, due to the unsuccessful anti-Habsburg uprising, he had to give up the crown.

On the last Sunday of the month, admission to the gallery is free. Therefore, if you plan your trip as early as Friday and book accommodation near Bethlenov dom for at least two nights, you will experience all the works of art firsthand. However, if you would also like to explore other buildings of the Stredoslovenská galéria with multiple exhibitions, feel free to head to Pretórium or Vila Dominika Skuteckého.

Kaštieľ a Múzeum regiónu Bielych Karpát

Kaštieľ a Múzeum regiónu Bielych Karpát

Bohunice (okres Ilava)

A romantic manor house built in the Neo-Gothic style is an unexpected architectural gem of the tiny village of Bohunice, located on the right bank of the Váh river, not far from the town of Ilava. The museum, which is part of the property, showcases the region of the surrounding Biele Karpaty. Follow the footsteps of history to this remarkably beautiful place and let yourself be enchanted by the atmosphere that reigns here.

The first mention of the manor house dates back to 1712, but the curia acquired its present appearance in the mid-19th century. Hungarian noble families Medňanský and Kubínyi contributed to the reconstruction in the spirit of historical Romanticism between the years 1861 and 1866. To meet the needs of the noble families, Kaplnka sv. Cyrila a Metoda, serving as a family crypt, was built in the grounds with an English park and a pond. A sad story of the Kubínyi family is tied to the building. Juraj Kubínyi and his wife Jana Medňanská, who was the daughter of Alojz Medňanský, a prominent author of works such as Dejiny slovenských hradov (History of Slovak Castles) or Malebná cesta dolu Váhom (A Picturesque Journey Down the Váh), used the manor house as their family residence. After the birth of their daughter Mária, a cholera epidemic broke out in the area, claiming Jana Medňanská and her little daughter as victims in 1866. The heartbroken Juraj Kubínyi had the Neo-Gothic crypt built to lay their bodies to rest, and he himself was laid to rest there in 1902 as the last heir to Medňanský's estate. Since then, the curia changed hands, belonging for instance to Žigmund Rizner, brother of Ľudmila Podjavorinská, who allegedly wrote her famous rhymed fairytale "Čin-čin" inspired by the sparrows in the local English park.

In the 1950s, the residence was seized from the family by the regime of the time, and a library, a folk school, and a shop were established in the premises of the manor house. From 1989 onwards, the building fell into disrepair. It was not until 2010 that the necessary subsidy for reconstruction was successfully obtained, and Múzeum regiónu Bielych Karpát opened its doors in the newly renovated premises in 2012. Since the village of Bohunice does not have its own cultural hall, it also uses the manor house for cultural and social events. The grounds can also be used for weddings and wedding photo shoots.

Múzeum regiónu Bielych Karpát offers a rich array of interesting exhibitions. You will be welcomed by wax figures of prominent personalities from the MAS Vršatec project (a local action group, a civic association), such as Vojtech Zamarovský, St. Benedict, or Božena Riznerová Obrová. For nature lovers, an exhibition of animals and butterflies from the Biele Karpaty region is prepared. Motoring enthusiasts will be pleased by an exhibition of motorcycles on loan from Vlastivedné múzeum v Považskej Bystrici, documenting their production in Považské strojárne between 1947 and 2009. Last but not least, artistic souls will find their delight in the permanent exhibition Genius Loci, featuring works by Bohunice native and academic painter Ján Matejko (1919–1980). The mystery of the art of glassmaking, along with an overview of 20th-century production from the glassworks and glass museum in Lednické Rovne, will be revealed to you by the local glass exhibition. Equally beautiful art, though the art of the written word, is represented by the exhibition of Ľudmila Podjavorinská, whose works have accompanied many from childhood into adulthood. Finally, the museum also hides the antique boudoir of opera singer and actress Božena Riznerová Obrová and an extraordinary ethnographic exhibition of hemp canvas production.

After touring the interior spaces, do not forget to visit the adjacent English park with its small pond and Kaplnka sv. Cyrila a Metoda. The park is dominated by a central trio of trees, a linden, a hornbeam, and a maple, whose crowns form a heart recognizable from a distance, enhancing the magical atmosphere of this place.

Not only the village of Bohunice, but the entire region offers breathtaking places worth visiting. Find accommodation near Kaštieľ a Múzeum regiónu Bielych Karpát, for example in the surrounding guesthouses or apartments. A diverse range of accommodation is also offered by nearby picturesque villages in the foothills of Vršatecké bradlá. You are guaranteed to experience a great stay here, complemented by many memorable experiences from visiting the museum.

The Vlastivedné múzeum v Galante was established on April 1, 1969. The first impulse for its creation came from local teachers, who led a local history club at that time. The displayed pieces represent the living style of the so-called upper social class.

In the room Sakrálne pamiatky, items with religious themes that once formed part of church furnishings will catch your interest. The exhibition Tradičná ľudová kultúra galantského regiónu presents an ethnological collection of the way of life in the surrounding microregions: Šoporňa, Pata, Abrahám, Veľký Grob, and Slovenský Komlóš. The displayed objects originate from the fields of traditional folk clothing, folk crafts, and home production.

Perhaps the most interesting room is Lekáreň, whose furnishings come from a family pharmacy in Bratislava dating back to 1909. The exhibition consists of numerous small bottles and containers of various shapes and sizes that once served in the production of pharmaceuticals. Laboratory tools and pharmacy scales are also located here, and diplomas of local pharmacists and doctors hold an honorable place as well.

In the smallest section, Výtvarní umelci regiónu, you will find 11 paintings by the painter Anton Dubrovský, a native of Šoporňa. The historical exhibition Mlyny a mlynárske remeslo deals with the development of milling in the area of the Malý Dunaj river and the lower reach of the Váh river, from its beginnings up to the end of the 20th century.

Archeologická lokalita Gáň-Brakoň. That is the name of the exhibition in which you will see finds from the ancient settlement of this region. Vessels and fragments of various tools date from the Neolithic period and the Late Bronze Age. The last stop is the Numizmatická výstava exhibition, located in a former vault room. Here you can inspect coins from the reign of Franz Joseph I as well as coins originating from Šintavský hrad.

In addition to permanent exhibitions, the Vlastivedné múzeum manages 9 branch exhibitions: Dom ľudového bývania Matúškovo, Vodný kolový mlyn Jelka, Vodný kolový mlyn Tomášikovo, Renesančný kaštieľ Galanta, Dom ľudového bývania Veľké Úľany, Mestské múzeum v Seredi, Múzeum Veľká Mača, Expozícia v Dome ľudového bývania v Šali, and Expozícia v Dome ľudového bývania v Žihárci.

The Vlastivedné múzeum keeps up with the times and always lures its visitors with new, interesting exhibitions. No wonder it won the Museum of the Year award in 2014. After this successful excursion, head to the historical center and taste the specialties of local restaurants.

You can spend the end of the day with a pleasant walk around the Vodná nádrž Kráľová. If you plan to spend a few days in the Považie region, book your stay now. Galéria Nedbalka

Galéria Nedbalka

Bratislava

Galéria Nedbalka is situated in the center of Bratislava, on one of the oldest streets built on the city walls. From the outside, the building looks like an Austro-Hungarian style classicist structure, but inside you will find a small Slovak Guggenheim. Take a walk through the interesting interior of the gallery, where you will discover works by Slovak fine art greats across five floors.

Throughout the year, the gallery is open to you in the afternoon hours daily, except for Mondays. The airy circular spaces of the gallery feel very pleasant and perhaps in a way also relax the mind, allowing it to perceive the beauty of the local cultural heritage more intensely. This unique building previously served as a residential house, later being used as a restaurant or staff canteen. Minimal maintenance of the building contributed to its decay and the need for complete demolition. In 2012, the gallery building underwent its latest reconstruction, which brought it to its current form. The architects who drew up the design even won the significant Dušan Jurkovič Award, awarded by the Association of Architects of Slovakia.

The collection of works you can find in the gallery premises consists of more than 1,000 exhibits by 83 Slovak artists, predominantly from the 19th and 20th centuries. It all started with the collecting passion and vision of three philanthropists who began writing the unrepeatable story of Galéria Nedbalka. Together, they managed to build a stable institution that made a private collection of Slovak art accessible to the general public. The gallery features a permanent exhibition that guides visitors through the fine art modernism in Slovakia. It introduces its birth and formation during the period between the two World Wars, as well as the work of contemporary representatives. At its inception stood Ľudovít Fulla and Mikuláš Galanda, who through their artistic manifesto expressed a fundamental attitude toward the understanding of art and the mission of the artist himself. The group that subsequently formed precisely around Mikuláš Galanda was heavily criticized during socialist times, and even excluded from the artistic community, which was related to a ban on activities and exhibiting works. They received awards and social recognition only after 1989.

In addition to the permanent exhibition, the gallery also organizes various current exhibitions, which often have a deeper meaning in the form of charity auctions of certain works. During your tour, an excellent coffee will surely hit the spot, prepared with a smile for you in the cafe, where you can also immerse yourself in interesting literature. You can purchase a small item or a commemorative souvenir at the local Artshop. It is also possible to rent the gallery spaces for various social events, discussions, receptions, lectures, business meetings, concerts, and you can even have your wedding ceremony held here. You just need to arrange everything in advance.

When you choose to head to Western Slovakia and find yourself right in the capital, definitely do not rush home quickly. Beautiful accommodation options can also be found near Galéria Nedbalka. Guesthouses, hotels, and apartments in Bratislava will surprise you with their equipment and hospitality. The city conceals many corners worth seeing. The Cumil statue, St. Michael's Gate, Bratislava Castle, or the UFO Observation Deck are just a fraction of the mandatory stops when touring the city center. From a different perspective, you will perceive everything during a sightseeing cruise on the Danube. Do not hesitate and set out for a new adventure.

Galéria Jána Kulicha

Galéria Jána Kulicha

Zvolenská Slatina

He was profoundly convinced that everything he created belonged to Slovakia, and through his work, he tirelessly proved how beautiful and rich it is. Ján Kulich is one of the most prominent representatives of 20th-century Slovak art. It is precisely to his life's work that Galéria Jána Kulicha, situated in the heart of the village of Zvolenská Slatina in the Zvolen district, is dedicated. The gallery building with a large adjacent garden is located between the school and the Evangelical church. Here, you can admire the artist's work in all its diversity. Wooden statuettes from his childhood, drawings, and sketches, as well as monumental sculptures, have been preserved. You will not easily forget this artistic experience.

The modern gallery has its home in a simple linear building. The structure is oriented toward the north, where an old vicarage stood in the past. It was right here that historical figures once gathered, and it was also the birthplace of Terézia Vansová. Part of the gallery grounds is a restored fragment of one wall of the original vicarage with artistic embellishment. Before entering the gallery building, an engaging frontal sculpture will welcome you. It will look familiar if you have ever visited the village of Terchová in the past. It is a scaled-down version of the monumental statue of Juraj Jánošík that guards the entrance to Vrátna dolina. Its author is none other than the artist Ján Kulich.

The main mission of the gallery is to preserve and present the work of Ján Kulich to the public. Right here, you have the opportunity to get acquainted with the broad range and content scope of the great national artist's creation. The gallery's collection consists of almost 3,700 original works. You can admire wooden statuettes from the author's childhood creation, drawings, sketches, and paintings, as well as medals, reliefs, sculptures, and portraits. All presented works are assembled into several thematic circles of the artist's lifelong key themes. The exhibition is updated annually.

An interesting part of the gallery's activity is the implementation of educational programs targeted not only at children and youth. Cultural projects, creative workshops, and cultural-social events in the garden are organized here. Children love participating in fun trivia competitions and activities, playing detectives, searching for treasure, or taking part in drawing mini-workshops. The gallery also offers its unique premises for rent. If its grounds charm you, you can organize, for example, a family celebration, wedding, or wedding photoshoot here.

After a beautiful artistic experience in Zvolenská Slatina, we also recommend a trip to the nearby Vígľašský zámok castle, recreation in Športový areál Orlík in Zvolen, and a tour of the majestic Zvolenský hrad. Krajské múzeum - Rákocziho palác

Prešov

The city of Prešov, which is the metropolis of Šariš, ranks among the largest and most beautiful cities in Slovakia. In it, you will find a number of unique attractions. When visiting it, you should definitely not bypass the Krajské múzeum, which is housed in the historic city center in Rákocziho palác. The building itself attracts visitors with its charm and beauty. It is not for nothing that it is described as the most beautiful town palace of Upper Hungary.

This Renaissance building was built in the 16th century on the most lucrative municipal land. Its elegant architecture and rich, yet subtle decoration will be appreciated by every expert. It is the most valuable example of Renaissance architecture in Slovakia that has been preserved to this day. The palace was created by converting two burgher houses commissioned by Žigmund Rákoczi. Among the most interesting architectural elements is the 17th-century Renaissance attic, which gives the building its specific character. The palace is also connected with various important historical events, such as the signing of the Peace of Prešov in 1663, or the anti-Habsburg uprisings in 1701.

Nowadays, it houses the Krajské múzeum. It attracts its visitors with a quantity of interesting exhibits. Among the museum's permanent exhibitions is the one capturing the history of firefighting in Slovakia. With its comprehensive character, it belongs to the most interesting ones in Slovakia. It captures firefighting equipment and tools in detail from as early as the Middle Ages, as well as the founding of voluntary fire brigades after the establishment of an independent Czechoslovak Republic post-1918. You will certainly be interested in the firefighting equipment, pumps, fire trucks, gear, and armament, including both working and ceremonial uniforms. Many a young visitor is amazed and unable to tear their eyes away from these exhibits, while their fathers enthusiastically help them delve into the world of brave fighters against the "red rooster" (fire).

It might be the historical exhibition that excites the ladies. Rare pieces of furniture from the 17th to 19th centuries, works of art, tapestries, historical weapons and ammunition, luxury clocks, or period currencies will carry you away into the past and present you with more than a millennium of Prešov's history. This "family silver" hides our social memory and pride. Rare chests of drawers, armchairs, marquetry-inlaid tables, and candlesticks will bring you closer to the former life of the Hungarian nobility. Perhaps you too will be enchanted by the view into richly decorated mirrors and at faithful portraits of the Rákoczi family.

The ethnographic exhibition, on the other hand, will bring you closer to the life and work of ordinary people. In your imagination, many crafts and folk arts will come alive. Will you be appealed to by the unique production method of bobbin lace or blueprint making? Or will you nostalgically recall the old farmyard and its tool equipment? The historical equipment of the pharmacy also deserves your admiration. A unique musical instrument of shepherds will not escape the attentive eye of a visitor either. It is a world unique, inscribed on the Slovak national list of cultural heritage, the gajdica.

Did you know that Slovakia was among the most significant extractors of rare precious opal? You can learn about that as well in the exhibition entitled Neživá príroda. Exhibits of minerals, rocks, or fossils will intrigue even the most demanding researchers. You will also find precious opal here, whose only deposit in Europe is located in the nearby Slanské vrchy. It has been mined here since 1597. However, the magnificent gem playing with all colors is not the only thing that might intrigue you. At the museum, you will also learn about the most valuable mineral in the world. No, it is not gold, but salt, which was mined and processed for long centuries in the Prešov city district of Solivar. One of the most interesting parts of the exhibition is also the one documenting the unique locality of Zlatá Baňa, where up to 173 different types of minerals were found. If you add fossils and prehistoric fossils to these points of interest, you will not want to leave the museum.

Enriched with new knowledge from the past, you can head out to meet adventure in the present. You will discover the infinite universe along with its mysteries in the Hvezdáreň a planetárium. After this activity, you will regenerate your mind and body in a salt cave. It has beneficial effects on your health. You can admire the beauty of artistic creation in the Krajská galéria v Prešove. If it is not too much for you and you thirst for further experiences, do not bypass the kalvária or some of the beautiful swimming pools in Prešov either.

Of course, after such an experience, it is good to rest in a soft bed. If you do not happen to have one at home and are open to new options, search for accomodation near Krajské múzeum - Rákocziho paláci closest to you. In the morning, it will be much easier for you to wake up to new days. Perhaps it will be cozy apartments, or you will choose private accommodation in Prešov. Galéria Dobrá hračka

Galéria Dobrá hračka

Vysoké Tatry mesto

This unique interactive children's gallery is guided by a revolutionary, yet wonderfully simple idea: "let's play smartly". After all, it was during childhood that many of us discovered the magic of the profession that feeds us today. Play doesn't just mean sitting at a computer. Play in childhood should be full of discoveries, imagination, dreams, laughter, and yes, occasionally some dirt, torn pants, or scraped knees. Galéria Dobrá hračka fosters creativity, teamwork, self-confidence, and spontaneity in children. So don't hesitate and come visit with your children too. You can even host a children's birthday party here or expand your home toy collection with truly unique pieces from the local shop.

In Tatranská Lomnica, right opposite the Múzeum Tatranského národného parku, a children's paradise stretches across an area of 500 m². Remember what it was like to dream about becoming a police officer or an astronaut? With us, children try out the profession firsthand. Little police officers direct traffic here and fine non-compliance with traffic regulations. On top of that, however, they will investigate a crime scene and perhaps even solve a tricky case. An obstacle course will test the fitness of many a little firefighter. Will yours be the one to help a kitten down from a tree?

While one child is drawn to a uniform, the hearts of others will be won over by science. Little doctors will treat minor injuries, learn something new about the human body, and maybe even put together an X-ray image. A future archaeologist will use a hammer slightly different from a medical one when searching for excavations. And who knows, maybe they will find their very first one right at Dobrá hračka. Discovering everyday life is also fascinating, though. How does a cogwheel turn, and what does it need teeth for if it doesn't go to the dentist? Our factory provides the answer, where children have already assembled many a working machine.

If your little princess likes dressing up dolls, you, and herself, perhaps a fashion designer's talent lies within her, just waiting to mature. Mandatory equipment includes tailor's chalk, a tape measure, scissors, and, of course, plenty of creative and quirky ideas. On the runway under the spotlights, they can showcase a graceful walk and command all the attention. Maybe a drummer in the music corner will play to their beat! However, lovers of fast driving will also have fun here. They can cruise the roads (watch out for the police officer!), but also look under the hood of a Formula car in the role of auto mechanics. Check the tires, refuel, and head out! Yet that's still not all, but we won't reveal any more to you so that you have some surprises left.

Good children don't misbehave; good children play. And they love to play most of all in Galéria Dobrá hračka, so come see for yourself as well. Moreover, if you book accommodation near Galéria Dobrá hračka, you can plan a great multi-day trip full of fun. Children and adults alike love the exhibition at the Múzeum Tatranského národného parku, where, for example, they can explore a bear den from the inside. And if you hop on the Tatra electric railway (tatranská električka), all the attractions of Vysoké Tatry will be within reach, hiking, family, relaxation, and gastronomy. The Tatry are indeed a region of unlimited possibilities, so come explore them. Apartments in Tatranská Lomnica and cottages in Vysoké Tatry are already waiting for you.

Múzeum a Kultúrne centrum južného Zemplína

Múzeum a Kultúrne centrum južného Zemplína

Trebišov

The landmark of Trebišov is a charming Baroque-Neoclassical manor house that was once a magnificent residence of the noble Andráši family (Andrášiovci). The town of Trebišov, the center of Southern Zemplín, is located in the southwestern part of the Východoslovenská nížina lowland. Part of the region is the world-famous Tokaj wine region, offering first-class quality wines. The Trebišov district offers many options for recreation and relaxation, whether you set off for a walk through nature reserves of floodplain forests, fruit orchards, or the charming hills of the Slanské vrchy mountains. However, we invite you to take a tour of a museum that will tell you about the rich and interesting history of this picturesque district.

Manor house and its history

The manor was built on the remains of the local castle Parič by Count Imrich Csáky in 1786. The Andráši family inherited the residence in the first half of the 19th century and rebuilt the property in Neo-Renaissance style, without neglecting the extensive garden. The new owners transformed it into a beautiful French park with a rich representation of exotic tree species. The Andráši family also had a Neo-Gothic family tomb built in their park, as was the tradition among upper classes in the 19th century. At the beginning of the First World War, the furnishings of the manor house were transported to other Andráši residences in Budapest and Tiszadob. After the Second World War, the manor served until 1978 as a hospital with a polyclinic, and after a subsequent reconstruction, the Vlastivedné múzeum museum (established in Sečovce as early as the 1950s) moved into the premises of the former manor house in 1981. Since 2012, the museum bears a new name, Múzeum a Kultúrne centrum južného Zemplína v Trebišove. The institution specializes in the history of agriculture and Tokaj viticulture, collecting and displaying many historically valuable items presenting the history of the Trebišov district.

Expositions

The museum offers exceptionally interesting expositions that will delight all age groups and enthusiasts of various fields. Whether you are interested in traditional crafts, the history of agriculture, tractors, archaeology, folk clothing, or like to enjoy a golden drink, you will be thrilled by everything you can see in the complex. For example, the exposition of the history of agriculture in Eastern Slovakia documents the development of this industry from the Neolithic period to the present day. Machinery fans will appreciate the exposition of the steam plowing set or the exposition of agricultural machinery and mechanisms from the end of the 19th and first half of the 20th century. Have you ever wondered how grain is processed? In that case, you will certainly be interested in the exhibition documenting the history of grain threshing from flails to modern combine threshing. If you want to learn more about the traditions of Southern Zemplín, you cannot miss the exposition presenting traditional disappearing and extinct crafts of Zemplín, especially rope making, blacksmithing, and wheelwrighting.

Artistic souls will enjoy the exposition of folk wood carving and sculpture of Zemplín, or the exhibition presenting folk clothing of Southern Zemplín from the first half of the 20th century. On a different note, the exhibition Andrášiovci na Trebišovsku reveals the history and manors of the noble family. And finally, one of the museum's greatest treasures is hidden in the cellar space. Located there is an exposition of Tokaj viticulture and winemaking in Slovakia. It is complemented by a unique archive of Tokaj wines, presenting producers of this unique beverage and collecting new samples. If the rich selection of permanent expositions were not enough for you, you will certainly be captivated by one of the thematic exhibitions of fine arts, phillumeny, ethnography, history, numismatics, or art. After visiting the exhibitions, you can indulge in a tasting of Tokaj varietal, quality, and selection wines at the Tokajská vináreň u Andrássyho wine cellar.

Exclusive attractions

If you are planning a group visit or a teambuilding event, the museum offers original attractions. Sign up for rope weaving and test your skills in rope making, an ancient Zemplín craft. The museum staff are Slovak record holders in this discipline, on August 12, 2011, they made a rope 103 meters long, thereby obtaining a certificate from the book of Slovak records. Another activity available for group bookings is home butter production in a butter churn, so-called churning. This was once a traditional activity in Zemplín households. Baňa Starovšechsvätých

Baňa Starovšechsvätých

Hodruša - Hámre

Baňa Starovšechsvätých v Hodruši-Hámroch represents one of the oldest and best-preserved mining monuments in the region of Central Slovak mining towns, revealing to visitors an authentic underground world unchanged for centuries.

The site is located in the village of Hodruša-Hámre, in the Žarnovica district, within the Banská Bystrica Region. Baňa Starovšechsvätých is exceptional because it has preserved its original medieval and early modern form without significant modern interventions, allowing visitors to admire the precise work of old master miners. During the tour, you pass through narrow and low corridors that were carved by hand using a chisel and hammer, while traces of this strenuous activity are still visible on the walls today. The exhibition includes not only the mining spaces themselves, but also unique underground chambers, technical monuments, and a mining museum housed in the historic building of the knocker (klopačka). Guides, who are often former miners, enrich the commentary with expert knowledge on geology, mineralogy, and the life of the mining community in Hodruša. The atmosphere underground is enhanced by silence and a constant temperature, with the light of miners' lamps highlighting shimmering minerals in precious metal veins. Due to its authenticity and historical value, the mine forms an important pillar of education about Slovakia's technical heritage and reminds us of the importance of the Hodruša mining district for the former European economy.

What can you find here?

In the area and underground of the mine, you will find accessible historic adits, mining exhibitions with tools, and a unique exhibition of minerals and precious metals. The historic knocker building is available, housing further museum exhibits and documents on the village's history. Before entering the underground, visitors are lent a protective coat, helmet, and miner's lantern for safe movement in the corridors.

Who is the place suitable for?

The place is ideal for lovers of history, geology, and technical monuments who are looking for an authentic experience without commercial additives. It is also sought after by school groups as part of educational excursions and tourists who want to discover the true face of medieval mining. Due to the character of the underground, where there are narrow spaces and low ceilings, the visit is not recommended for people with claustrophobia, and reasonable physical mobility and sturdy footwear are required.

What can you visit in the surroundings?

Just a few kilometers from the mine lies the historic Banská Štiavnica (UNESCO) with numerous monuments, such as the Old and New Castles (Starý and Nový zámok). You can also visit nearby artificial water reservoirs known as tajchy, such as Hodrušský tajch, which offers opportunities for swimming in nature, or the picturesque village of Štiavnické Bane. Bašta Štiavnické Bane

Bašta Štiavnické Bane

Štiavnické Bane

In the picturesque nature of Štiavnické vrchy, you can find a small treasure. It is hidden on the steep slope of the village of Štiavnické Bane, offering a stunning view of the surrounding area. Visit the circular Bašta Štiavnické Bane, which is one of the popular tourist attractions in this region.

Bašta v Štiavnických Baniach was once part of the defense system of the anti-Turkish fortifications. Today, it is one of the restored attractions of the village. This is mainly because the original bastion underwent reconstruction, and its founder built a museum inside dedicated to Maximilián Hell, a native of the village. During the tour, as part of one of the two exhibition sections, you can view information panels concerning, for example, the first observatory in Slovakia founded in 1878, the first mine surveying office, or the first school or hospital established in this mining region. On the next two floors, you will also take a look at significant milestones of the village. The second part of the exhibition is dedicated to the life and work of the aforementioned Catholic priest, Jesuit, astronomer, mathematician, and physicist Maximilián Hell.

The museum is open on weekdays (except Monday). A set of 175 wooden steps will lead you to it. In addition to regular tours, guided visits combined with sky observation are organized twice a year. This is possible thanks to a professional telescope that the village purchased for the exhibition. Naturally, an expert is also invited to these events.

If you would like to enrich your trip with other interesting places, we recommend visiting the beauty of Prírodný park AVES. If you visit this region in summer, there is an opportunity to swim in the surrounding tajchy artificial lakes. The closest to the bastion is Veľké Richnavské jazero. You can visit Škola v múzeu not only with children. With a headlamp on your head, you can explore Banské múzeum v prírode - Banská Štiavnica. After a continuous layer of snow falls, you can ski on the slopes of the popular Salamandra Ski Resort.

Don't feel like rushing back home? Stay longer and book accommodation near Bašta Štiavnické Bane. There is a choice of many apartments or smaller cottages in Štiavnické Bane. It only depends on your preferences which accommodation you choose. We will be happy to help you with your choice.

Hohenlohe zámoček

Hohenlohe zámoček

Tatranská Javorina

Surrounded by unique nature, in the cadastral area of the village of Tatranská Javorina, in a place with a beautiful view of both the Belianske Tatry and Vysoké Tatry, stands the Hohenlohe hunting lodge. It attracts visitors mainly because it is built of wood and showcases the lifestyle of the Prussian prince of that time.

The Hohenlohe hunting lodge belongs among national cultural monuments. It has been open to the public since 2015. It was designed by the architect Jean Leindecker and built between 1883 and 1885 by the Prussian prince Christian Craft Hohenlohe-Öhringen. This lodge served the prince mainly as his home, where he lived together with his wife. He also used part of the premises for representative purposes at a time when he organized hunts for guests from all over Europe. Among other things, Prince Christian himself established his own game reserve in this village, into which he imported bisons or ibexes.

The original appearance of this lodge has been preserved to this day, having undergone a partial reconstruction between 1975 and 1977. Today, the lodge serves mainly for representative purposes of the President of the Slovenská republika. You can also visit it if you book a tour date in advance. This is scheduled always for every Thursday of the month. It is possible to choose from three pre-determined free admissions. Parking at the lodge is possible only during the tour, and no fee needs to be paid for it.

During the tour, you will certainly be interested not only in the unique decoration but also in many objects, among which you can notice a telescope by the Munich optician Jacob Merc, hunting trophies, weapons, photographs, paintings, and also an unconventional gong that served to summon social events. Interesting photographs have also survived, but with regret, we must state that many objects from this lodge ended up in the original German seat of the Hohenlohe family after the world hunting exhibition in 1910. Several artifacts also "mysteriously disappeared" even before 1989.

Be sure not to miss a tour of this unique attraction, which is located in the village of Tatranská Javorina. You can plan a hike along tourist trails that were marked out in the past by Prince Hohenlohe himself. Less fit visitors will also appreciate a comfortable, albeit somewhat longer walk along the Zadné Meďodoly educational trail. In the village, do not miss the interesting Kostol svätej Anny church. In the summer season, you can rent a bicycle at the Strachan e-bike rental shop and explore the beauty of this region from its saddle. In the winter season, the slopes of the Ski TAJA - Tatranská Javorina ski resort are heavily utilized.

So that you do not have to return straight home on Thursday, we recommend taking time off and making it a sightseeing extended weekend. You just need to choose from the offer of our accommodation near the Hohenlohe lodge and everything is taken care of. For couples and families, several apartments are on offer, but if you come as a larger group, we recommend booking a cottage in this village. We will gladly help you choose the best accommodation on our portal.
