Mestské múzeum v Šuranoch

Mestské múzeum v Šuranoch

Šurany

In the former building of the orthodox synagogue in the town of Šurany, you will find Mestské múzeum. The permanent exhibition of the museum is accessible to visitors on the upper floor. The museum gathers into its collections archaeological finds from the well-known site Zámeček, artifacts from Šuriansky hrad, and various other items or documents that portray the history of the town. Do not miss a visit to the museum if you visit Šurany or its immediate surroundings.

The mission of the museum, which was established in 2007 as part of Mestské kultúrne stredisko, besides collecting, is also the rescue and restoration of objects or documents that have important historical explanatory value and help us portray events or happenings in past times. You can plan your tour of the museum every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Visitors will also broaden their horizons in the field of theater, which has a more than 150-year tradition in Šurany. Part of the exhibition is also dedicated to the oldest musical ensemble in Šurany, which is the šuriansky tamburáši. The development of ethnography is presented by an exhibition dedicated to traditional folk clothing or crafts such as basketry or ceramics.

An interesting feature is the model of the town of Šurany, which replicates the appearance of the town from the second half of the 17th century. During this period, the Ottoman-Turkish occupation prevailed in our territory, and the aforementioned Šuriansky hrad, which the model depicts, also resisted the expansion.

The Orthodox synagogue in Šurany, where the museum is located, is also a venue for many gallery exhibitions, concerts, or other social and cultural events. If you visit Šurany, do not miss the well-known archaeological site, which is Slovenská Trója – Zámeček. In terms of its area, it belongs among the largest and at the same time richest sites in Central Europe.

During your wanderings through the town, you will encounter the Socha Hrádockej Venuše, which was found during archaeological research in Nitriansky Hrádok. Looking at it, you will be reminded of the Slovak two-koruna coin, whose likeness the Venus adorned for many years. In the summer months, you can enjoy refreshment at the Prírodnom kúpalisku Tona Beach natural swimming pool, which you can find on the outskirts of the town of Šurany. The sports and recreational area is sought after not only by locals. Come and swim, relax under the warm rays of the sun, or spend the day actively doing water sports.

If you are looking for accommodation near Mestské múzeum v Šuranoch, you are in the right place. Just choose the date of your trip and you can book one of the surrounding guesthouses or apartments. We will leave the choice up to you, but we believe that you will be satisfied and take away new experiences and beautiful memories.

Galanta

You are surely among the fans of history as well. If so, go back in time with us and visit the Vlastivedné múzeum v Galante . Discover with us the history of the Galanta district, which lies in the middle of the Podunajská nížina. The museum is located in an ancient building right next to the Rímskokatolícky kostol and the parish office.

The Vlastivedné múzeum v Galante was established on April 1, 1969. The first impulse for its creation came from local teachers, who led a local history club at that time. From 1970 to 1986, the museum was housed in the Neogotický kaštieľ manor house. In 2014, it moved to new premises of a former bank in the town center. In the museum building, you can view 8 permanent exhibitions. The first exhibition is titled Mestská bytová kultúra and presents a collection of historical furniture from the late 19th to the early 20th century. The displayed pieces represent the living style of the so-called upper social class.

In the room Sakrálne pamiatky, items with religious themes that once formed part of church furnishings will catch your interest. The exhibition Tradičná ľudová kultúra galantského regiónu presents an ethnological collection of the way of life in the surrounding microregions: Šoporňa, Pata, Abrahám, Veľký Grob, and Slovenský Komlóš. The displayed objects originate from the fields of traditional folk clothing, folk crafts, and home production.

Perhaps the most interesting room is Lekáreň, whose furnishings come from a family pharmacy in Bratislava dating back to 1909. The exhibition consists of numerous small bottles and containers of various shapes and sizes that once served in the production of pharmaceuticals. Laboratory tools and pharmacy scales are also located here, and diplomas of local pharmacists and doctors hold an honorable place as well.

In the smallest section, Výtvarní umelci regiónu, you will find 11 paintings by the painter Anton Dubrovský, a native of Šoporňa. The historical exhibition Mlyny a mlynárske remeslo deals with the development of milling in the area of the Malý Dunaj river and the lower reach of the Váh river, from its beginnings up to the end of the 20th century.

Archeologická lokalita Gáň-Brakoň. That is the name of the exhibition in which you will see finds from the ancient settlement of this region. Vessels and fragments of various tools date from the Neolithic period and the Late Bronze Age. The last stop is the Numizmatická výstava exhibition, located in a former vault room. Here you can inspect coins from the reign of Franz Joseph I as well as coins originating from Šintavský hrad.

In addition to permanent exhibitions, the Vlastivedné múzeum manages 9 branch exhibitions: Dom ľudového bývania Matúškovo, Vodný kolový mlyn Jelka, Vodný kolový mlyn Tomášikovo, Renesančný kaštieľ Galanta, Dom ľudového bývania Veľké Úľany, Mestské múzeum v Seredi, Múzeum Veľká Mača, Expozícia v Dome ľudového bývania v Šali, and Expozícia v Dome ľudového bývania v Žihárci.

The Vlastivedné múzeum keeps up with the times and always lures its visitors with new, interesting exhibitions. No wonder it won the Museum of the Year award in 2014. After this successful excursion, head to the historical center and taste the specialties of local restaurants.

You can spend the end of the day with a pleasant walk around the Vodná nádrž Kráľová. If you plan to spend a few days in the Považie region, book your stay now. A rich offer of accommodation near the Vlastivedné múzeum Galanta can be found on the page accommodation in Galante. Múzeum holokaustu v Seredi

Múzeum holokaustu v Seredi

Sereď

The ancient Roman philosopher Marcus Tullius Cicero said: "History is the witness that testifies to the passing of time, it illumines reality, vitalizes memory, provides guidance in daily life and brings us tidings of antiquity." Within its content framework, this quote also captures the essence of the exhibition at Múzeum holokaustu v Seredi.

The museum is located in the western part of the town of Sereď, right opposite the railway station, and captures the dark past of Slovak history. It is situated directly on the premises where a labor camp and later a concentration camp was established during World War II. The individual museum exhibitions feature authentic exhibits related to the persecution of Jews in Slovakia. One such exhibit, for example, is a cattle wagon in which Jews were deported under inhumane conditions to the concentration camp Auschwitz.

The museum's atmosphere, the displayed objects, and the expert commentary of the guide leave a very deep impression on every visitor. Even though your feelings upon leaving may be mixed to say the least, it is a place intended to warn us and highlight the dangers and threats of war and genocide. It is right here that you realize such history should never be repeated again.

Inside the museum, you will also find an educational center focused on educational events, seminars, and training sessions that familiarize the public with the Jewish community in Slovakia, their culture, and the horrific impact of the Holocaust on the lives of many innocent victims of World War II. The museum also serves as a memorial and commemorative site. Did you know that this place is linked to the fate of nearly 16,000 Jews, the vast majority of whom were murdered during the Holocaust?

For visitors arriving by their own vehicles, the museum provides parking right in front of its building. Therefore, do not hesitate, visit its premises during opening hours and take a look into the not-so-distant past. Perhaps after the tour you will need some time to absorb all the emotions, so accommodation near Múzeum holokaustu v Seredi will come in very handy.

After such a profound experience, you will certainly appreciate letting your mind and body recover, for instance at Plaváreň ZŠ Juraja Fándlyho or while taking a tour of Seredský kaštieľ.
