Kaštieľ Dolná Krupá

Dolná Krupá

You will find a unique Neoclassical manor house dating back to the 18th century in the village of Dolná Krupá, in the Trnava district. A spacious English park is an integral part of the manor house. Enjoy a romantic walk in this enchanting setting. Explore the exhibition spaces of the manor house and take a look into the past. It is ideal to confirm your tour in advance by phone.

Upon entering, the fountain in the courtyard of the manor house will catch your eye. The manor house is considered the most beautiful example of rural Neoclassical architecture in Slovakia. Its owners at the time, the Brunswick family, made not only the manor house famous, but also the village of Dolná Krupá through their artistic collections of paintings, books, and minerals. The manor house even featured a theater building. The Brunswicks were lovers of art and music. Ludwig van Beethoven himself taught their daughters to play the piano right inside the manor house. Due to his non-noble origin, the composer stayed in a garden house rather than with the nobility in the main house. The Ludwig van Beethoven Memorial is part of the garden. During the tour of the manor house, you will also take a look into the music museum.

The Brunswick family, and later the Chotek family, was the last to experience the great glory of the manor house. This opulent residence, where high society used to gather, began to decline from the time of World War I. The aforementioned park once enjoyed great popularity for its flora. Among the last to reside in the manor house, until the mid-20th century, was Countess Maria Henrietta Chotek, who created a magnificent rose garden in the park that was the largest in Central Europe. The original park also featured three lakes. Unfortunately, only the original torso is preserved today. The manor house has undergone an extensive reconstruction, which delights not only the residents of Dolná Krupá.

Take advantage of this beautiful setting and surroundings, which offer opportunities for walks and outdoor activities. Come for a walk to the nearby Trnavské rybníky protected area, which is known for birdwatching over 200 species of birds. Looking for a summer refreshment? The Suchá nad Parnou water reservoir in the nearby village of the same name is a spot for total relaxation and soaking up the sun's rays. The environment with views of Malé Karpaty is a sought-after recreational location. A unique natural swimming experience is offered by the Kamenný mlyn swimming pool in the nearby town of Trnava. The complex also features options for active leisure through sports games.

Kaštieľ v Betliari

Kaštieľ v Betliari

Betliar

Just 3 kilometers north of the village of Rožňava lies the picturesque village of Betliar, which proudly boasts a luxurious 17th-century noble residence. Kaštieľ Betliar was originally built as an advanced fortification of Hrad Krásna Hôrka. Did you know that Kaštieľ v Betliari is the only manor house in Slovakia that has been preserved with its original furnishings and collections after the end of World War II? All the exhibits that you can view in its interior once belonged to the Hungarian noble family of Andrássy. They were considered the most prominent aristocrats in Europe. In Slovakia, they were known thanks to four hundred years of ownership of Hrad Krásna Hôrka and Kaštieľ Betliar.

On the site of the original older Renaissance manor house, a truly luxurious residence was built between 1881 and 1886, which Count Emanuel I Andrássy had renovated. A member of the Hungarian Parliament and the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, he was inspired by English country estates. His son Gejza I was responsible for further modernization, resulting in a lavish residence featuring electric lighting, central heating, 16 bathrooms, a magnificent library, and numerous apartments that were inhabited by the social elite during times of legendary hunts. The Andrássy family were passionate travelers, which was also reflected in the interior decoration. They filled the manor house with numerous valuable pieces of furniture, works of art, and extensive collections consisting of exotic objects, hunting trophies, and paintings by 19th-century realists.

The manor house served as the family residence until 1945. In the post-war period, it was nationalized, and today it houses a museum capturing the life of this prominent noble family. The exhibition of noble domestic culture from the 18th and 19th centuries was established and opened to the public after a complete reconstruction of the building in 1994. The museum exhibition is set up on the first and second floors and covers an area of 2,308 m². It consists of nearly 50 living rooms and several utility spaces, such as bathrooms, a wardrobe, and workspaces. Alongside exclusive pieces of furniture with tasteful textiles and upholstery, you can also view silver objects, utility porcelain, glass and ceramics, as well as oriental carpets and curtains. Ancient Egypt has long fascinated not only scientists and researchers but also passionate travelers, and it was no different in the case of the Andrássy family. The ground floor of the manor house is therefore dedicated to a unique collection of egyptological valuables. Perhaps the most attractive artifact is the mummy of the priest of the god Amun brought from the burial ground in Giza. Its age is estimated to be from the 12th century BC. Another rarity is the mummified body of an unknown Egyptian child and grave finds in the form of amulets and their fragments.

The Andrássy family were also passionate hunters. An Exhibition of Exotic Trophies has been established for this hobby combined with a fascination for exotic countries. Count Emanuel, who undertook an adventurous journey to India in 1849, is considered the founder of this unique collection. His footsteps were followed by his son Gejza I, who became famous as an exceptional hunter and an enthusiast of everything thrilling and dangerous. The exhibition contains specimens from Africa and Asia and is installed in the premises of the winter garden to evoke an engaging and adventurous atmosphere for visitors. Among the museum's greatest attractions is also the main library, founded in 1790 by Leopold Andrássy. At the time of its inception, it contained 565 books, mainly in the fields of history, medicine, physics, and philosophy. Today, it consists of more than 14,000 volumes of theological, philosophical, historical, and geographical works from the 15th to the 19th century, written in six different languages. The most valuable specimens are incunabula. The oldest is a medical book published in Venice in 1486. Your tour ends in a magnificent English park with a waterfall, a cave, and three fountains, which was inscribed in the list of historic gardens and parks of the world in 1977.

After an exhausting but all the more exciting tour of the manor house, take a walk to the nearby Hermes Well. Crown your nice day in a stylish room of a family guesthouse. However, if you are looking for more privacy, click on the accommodation in Betliar page, and the complete offer of accommodation near Kaštieľ Betliar will be displayed to you. You will find a variety of romantic cottages and stylish apartments there. Reserve the following days for exploring the beauties of Slovenské rudohorie and Volovské vrchy.

The local manor house attracts visitors not only with its charming architecture, but also with valuable permanent exhibitions and occasional programming by the Slovenská národná galéria. The charm of this unique place is completed by an 19th-century English park, which is made for a romantic stroll.

Art lovers can let themselves be enchanted by four permanent exhibitions in kaštieľ Strážky. Two of them are presentations of visual art pieces. The exhibition Portrét 17.–19. storočia na Spiši is a collection of portraits consisting largely of works from the family gallery of the former owners of the manor house (the Horváth-Stansith, Szirmay, Mednyánszky, and Czóbel families, as well as Spiš families such as Csáky, Esterházy, etc.). The second visual art exhibition, entitled Ladislav Mednyánszky a Strážky, is the only permanent exhibition in Slovakia presenting the works of one of the main representatives of Central European painting of the last third of the 19th and early 20th century, Ladislav Mednyánszky. The exhibition is a selection from a comprehensive body of the artist's works, which primarily come from his early periods and document individual stages of the development of his artistic style.

The third interesting exhibition of the picturesque manor house is Historická knižnica Strážky, which is part of the national cultural heritage. Its origins date back to the last quarter of the 16th century. The impressive collection contains an incredible 8,500 volumes, magazines, and maps. The last exhibition of the Slovenská národná galéria can be viewed by visitors in the premises of kaštieľ Strážky. Under the title Sochárstvo na Slovensku v 20. storočí, works of important Slovak sculptors from the second half of the 20th century are presented here in the impressive setting of the English park. The picturesque park grounds blend pleasantly with the riverbed of the Poprad River and the surrounding countryside. It thus creates a beautiful scenery for a pleasant walk with an artistic touch.

A magnificent artistic object is undoubtedly the building of kaštieľ Strážky itself. It was built on the foundations of a Gothic castle. Later owners, the Horváth-Stansith family, gradually rebuilt it into a beautiful Renaissance manor house. This picturesque manor house acquired its present appearance through a reconstruction in the 17th century. A typical square floor plan with an inner courtyard was created by adding a fourth wing after a fire at the beginning of the 18th century. Kaštieľ Strážky, together with the kostol sv. Anny and a Renaissance bell tower in the historic town center, forms a national cultural monument.

Can you get enthusiastic about art and architectural monuments set in unique outdoor scenery? Fričovský kaštieľ

Fričovský kaštieľ

Fričovce

Surrounded by the picturesque nature of the Horný Šariš region, in the district of Prešov, in a quiet part of the village of Fričovce, you will find a true gem of Slovak Renaissance architecture. The beautiful Kaštieľ Fričovce manor house dates back to the beginning of the 17th century, when the construction of manor houses in Slovakia was at its peak. Its uniqueness lies primarily in its exterior sgraffito figurative decoration depicting around 150 historical and mythological figures. In addition to its beautiful architecture, the manor house attracts visitors with an excellent restaurant and an adjacent park with small ponds and historical trees.

This charming monument was built between 1623 and 1630 by the Berthóty family. The author of the figurative decoration is the painter and sgraffito artist Martin Waxman. He created the artwork on the building's facade using the two-color sgraffito technique, utilizing ivory and greyish-black charcoal. An interesting feature of the figures is their larger heads compared to their bodies. During creation, the author took into account the vertical perspective of the viewer looking up from below. In terms of content, you can admire up to 150 figures from various fields on the decoration. Here you will find ancient gods, figures symbolizing human virtues, figures from Hungarian and Polish history, kings, sultans, and emperors of the Roman Empire.

In 1998, the Tomko family became the owners of the manor house, breathing new life into the dilapidated building after more than 40 years. Extensive reconstruction included structural repairs, restoration of the exterior, interiors, outbuildings, and the park. The foundation of the greenery consists of deciduous trees reaching ages of 100 to 150 years. You can admire old linden trees, chestnuts, maples, as well as wingnut, mulberry, tulip tree, and ginkgo. Small ponds complete the beautiful scenery. In addition to touring the historical building and taking a walk through the picturesque park, you can also treat yourself to a delicious lunch or sit down for a fine coffee in the manor house. Directly inside the historical premises of the manor house, you will find a popular restaurant with a selection of culinary specialties of Slovak cuisine.

Hradný kaštieľ F. Rákocziho II. - Borša

Borša

Accept our warm invitation to Hradný kaštieľ Františka Rákocziho II., located in the village of Borša, in the Trebišov district, in the south of the Zemplín region. This Renaissance manor house, where the aforementioned F. II. Rákoczi was born, will captivate you not only with its architecture, but also with the services you will find inside.

Head into the premises of the manor house during opening hours. Its origins date back to the mid-16th century, when, according to documents, it was built on older foundations of the original medieval water castle. It was commissioned here as a manor house by the Tokaj castle captain Zeleméri Kamarás. Only later, during the reign of Zuzana Loránttfy and Prince Juraj I Rákoczi, did the manor house become a water castle. Subsequently, it underwent several renovations.

The floor plan of the manor house is L-shaped. Right in front of its older section, you can see traces of a moat that likely belonged to the water castle. You may also notice a square corner bastion, which could be the remnant of a tower. In the center of the manor house on the ground floor, there is a semicircular arch portal with a rectangular frame. This very feature could have served in the past as space for a portcullis or a drawbridge. Inside the manor house itself, you can notice flat ceilings and Renaissance vaults.

During a walk through the stunning grounds, you will also catch sight of a robust bronze bust of František II. Rákoczi. This is mainly because the local residents wanted to commemorate the birth of the leader of the last anti-Habsburg uprising, František Rákoczi II. He saw the light of day here in 1676, though he spent his life at the castle in Mukačevo.

Treat yourself to wonderful experiences at the manor house. Take a look into the ethnographic exhibition with Rákoczi memorial rooms. Thanks to virtual reality, you can experience firsthand what it was like to live at the time of this prince's birth. Are you more the type of person who prefers something more engaging? Then visit the Escape room right in the manor house, where game participants plan the prince's escape before his execution. It is not only schools that appreciate the panoramic projection in a hall with a capacity of 15 people. In short films, you can watch the life of this ruler or the surroundings of the village.

Kubínyiovský kaštieľ

Vyšný Kubín

A beautiful manor house, like something straight out of a folk fairy tale or a romantic historical movie, is situated in Orava, in the village of Vyšný Kubín. The birthplace of P. O. Hviezdoslav, a village with a diverse cultural and historical heritage, lies in the Dolný Kubín district, about 5 km from the district town. An unmissable complex featuring a magnificent Baroque-style building named Kubínyiovský kaštieľ is the landmark of the village, attracting visitors. Here, in a space breathing history, you will step back in time for a moment, let your body and soul refresh in the wellness center, or indulge in a glass of quality wine from the local wine cellar.

Kubínyiovský kaštieľ dates back to the 17th century, when Beňadik Kubínyi built it as a Renaissance curia. It acquired its current Baroque appearance a century later, when it was reconstructed by Jozef Kubínyi and his wife. At that time, the manor house was enriched with three onion domes and magnificent ceiling paintings in the interior. In recent years, this architectural gem fell into disrepair. Its owners breathed new life into it only in 2010 through a major, yet very sensitive reconstruction respecting the original architectural character of the site. In addition to the building itself, the surroundings of the manor house and the former stables, which now house a restaurant, also caught a second wind.

Upon arrival at the manor house, you will be literally captivated by the attractiveness of the entire area. A beautiful English park with landscaped greenery is ideal for a romantic walk. Inside the historical building itself, a guided tour is prepared for you, during which you will visit both the Renaissance and Baroque parts of the manor house and finish it with your favorite drink in hand in the restaurant area. The entire tour lasts approximately 40 minutes and must be booked in advance.

One of the oldest and at the same time most breathtaking places in the manor house is its underground with a Renaissance wine cellar. It is dominated by natural stone, elegantly complemented by wooden elements and beautiful barrel vaults. Here you can not only touch 400 years of history, but also taste from the selection of quality wines. A visit to the wellness center located directly on the premises of the manor house will surely become an unforgettable experience for you. Here you can swim in a pool with a counter-current, refresh yourself under an impressive tropical rain, or regenerate your body and mind in a dry and steam sauna. If you just feel like relaxing, entrust yourself to the hands of a masseur or relax in the relaxation zone offering a magical view of Veľký Choč.

If you visit Vyšný Kubín, the fairy-tale manor house will literally invite you for a visit with its visual appeal. You can combine a trip here with a tour of the nearby Drevený artikulárny kostol Leštiny or the unique archeopark Praveká osada Mokrý Kút, spread across a meadow near the village of Vyšný Kubín. There is certainly no shortage of architectural monuments in this region, nor of accommodation near Kubínyiovský kaštieľ. Book a cottage in Vyšný Kubín or in the surrounding area and let yourself be invited to discover the gems of Orava.

Kaštieľ Radoľa
Kaštieľ Radoľa 5469, Radoľa

Kaštieľ Radoľa

Radoľa

The only preserved manor house in the Kysuce region, Kaštieľ Radoľa, has served as an exhibition building of the Kysucké múzeum since 1983. The historic building is one of the few Renaissance monuments in Kysuce. As the name of the manor house suggests, it is situated in the village of Radoľa, located in the district of Kysucké Nové Mesto. In addition to the 16th-century building itself, truly interesting museum exhibitions, displays, and events attract visitors here. Here you can see how burghers lived in Kysuce, learn interesting facts about the oldest history of the region, as well as the massive fire that destroyed almost the entire district town in 1904.

The first mention of the manor house dates back to 1575. The manor house was originally a Renaissance type of gentry residence built by the Suňog family, owners of the Budatínske panstvo. It took the form of a residential tower, likely fortified with curtain walls. Its Renaissance character is still evidenced today by molded window cornices, a groin vault with ridge decoration, or corner quoining painting. In the 17th century, a large manorial farm was based at the manor house, featuring numerous livestock, adjacent barns, orchards, a brewery, a mill, and even ponds where fish were raised. In later periods, the manor house served residential purposes.

Since the 1980s, the manor house has belonged to the Kysucké múzeum. In addition to three permanent exhibitions, a wide spectrum of temporary exhibitions and events with truly interesting themes are held here. The permanent exhibition presenting the urban lifestyle of the second half of the 19th and the first half of the 20th century is entitled Meštianske bývanie na Kysuciach. It invites visitors to get a closer look at the lives of craftsmen, merchants, and later tradesmen, intellectuals, officials, and landowners across the passage of time. Here you can see what architecture their houses had, the interiors in which they lived, the dining rooms where they ate, as well as their sideboards, living rooms, and bedrooms.

The exhibition entitled Svet dávnych predkov goes much deeper into the history of Kysuce. It presents the most famous archaeological sites in the region to visitors. It is divided into three separate parts. The first is dedicated to the Lusatian culture of the Bronze Age, the second part presents the Iron Age, and the last highlights the Middle Ages and the archaeological research of the church and cemetery in Radoľa. An interesting specimen of this exhibition is a model of a baby mammoth and a mammoth tooth.

Another permanent exhibition of the museum is accessible to visitors under the title 695 rokov – Cesta dejinami. It was opened on the occasion of the 695th anniversary of granting town privileges to Kysucké Nové Mesto. The exhibition is dedicated to the older history of the town. It guides visitors through the Middle Ages and early modern period up to the fateful year 1904, when a catastrophic fire of huge proportions struck Kysucké Nové Mesto. It does so through documents related to town history, seals, the town book, the oldest postcards of the town, as well as period objects related to craft and guild production.

Seredský kaštieľ

Seredský kaštieľ

Sereď

Come and take a look at the remnants of history reaching into the present at the Seredský kaštieľ in Sereď. It is a classical mansion that stands on the former Šintavský hrad. Today, it ranks among national cultural monuments that you certainly should not miss when visiting Sereď.

The history of this mansion is interesting. Originally a medieval castle from the 17th century, it was transformed into a Renaissance fortress and later a mansion. The history of the mansion connected with the castle thus dates back to the 11th century, when its foundation was merely a multi-story prismatic tower. Over time, the castle was transformed and expanded with new parts. If you had lived at that time, you would certainly have been interested in the entrance gate with a tower and a drawbridge across the moat. Even though the castle fortifications were gradually dismantled and the moats filled in, the overall atmosphere will surely charm you.

Over the course of three centuries, the four-bastion fortress changed into a Baroque mansion, which was later rebuilt in the classical style. It must have been wonderful to stroll through the summer salon, the library salon with over a thousand book titles, the countess's dressing room, the silver room, or the playroom. A total of 14 rooms and the corridors of the mansion were truly opulent for that time. The surroundings of the mansion were practically made for walks, as there was a well-maintained English park located here. The use of the mansion by German soldiers during World War II, its devastation by the Russian army, or the completion of the destruction by local residents left damage on this monument.

Mostly during summer and cultural events, you can visit the premises of the Seredského kaštieľa. At other times, it is only possible by agreement with the city employees. The mansion is currently in the hands of the city, which is trying to restore this monumental monument. Even the councilors decided that it would be a pity not to use the premises, which is why exhibitions, concerts, or other events are occasionally held here. Mostly this is in the area, not inside the building. You might manage to visit such an event and need to book suitable accommodation near the Seredského kaštieľa in advance.

In Sereď, you will find many ways to spend time together. A chill runs down your spine at the Múzeu holokaustu. However, it is good to show young people what happened in the past. Water has very positive effects on the human body, and in combination with sports, you will do something beneficial for your body.

Do not worry about not finding accommodation in Sereď. It is a relatively large town that provides multiple accommodation facilities. You might be interested in a small wooden cottage in the nearby cottage settlement. Much more space for accommodation is provided by the Sereď hostels. Individual pieces originating from the older period of classicism, empire, or Biedermeier can be found on the upper floor. Furniture from the younger period, representing historicisms, can be found on the ground floor. Kaštieľ v Stropkove

Kaštieľ v Stropkove

Stropkov

Almost every inhabitant of Stropkov knows where the manor house is located. However, few people know that Kaštieľ v Stropkove is also a remnant of a 15th-century castle. Come inspect this interesting place for yourself and learn about its history.

The original castle was built by the Balick family, and later taken over by the Perényi family. However, its flourishment and development were brought about by the Pethő family of Gerse, who also lived in the castle. The first written mentions are found in the donation deeds of King Sigismund of Luxembourg from 1408. The original structure was shaped like a pentagon with five corner towers. The complex contained a palace and a parish church. The castle walls were built in the 16th century as a defense against Turkish raids. In 1814, a fire broke out in a blacksmith workshop, nearly destroying the castle completely. At the end of the 18th century, the castle walls ceased to serve their defensive function, and were therefore dismantled and used by local residents as building material. Over time, only the church and the manor house remained in the open space, undergoing several structural modifications over the centuries. Probably the most valuable part of this grand building is the Renaissance knights' hall, which was preserved thanks to the last reconstruction in 2006.

You will find the Gothic-Renaissance manor house on Zámocká ulica near the church. It is currently owned by the town. Directly in front of the manor house is a small parking lot for visitors, who can visit the museum and gallery exhibitions located on the ground floor and in the attic. In the aforementioned knights' hall, there is an exhibition dedicated to the history of the town and its surroundings. The gallery in the attic presents several dozen artworks by local native and painter František Veselý. Paintings with themes of ecology and physiology are as yet undiscovered, but artistically very valuable.

Your little ones will certainly be thrilled by the doll exhibition as well, and you will fondly remember the old days of childhood. Here you will find dolls dressed in various outfits from different places all over the world. Can you imagine a geography or literature lesson in such an exhibition? You say no? Visit this unique place and see the resourcefulness of the local guides for yourself.

After touring the manor house, we recommend continuing your trip to Zoo park Stropkov. Marked by fatigue, a refreshment at Letné kúpalisko Stropkov might come in handy. And then go see the unique Drevený kostolík sv. Paraskievy in the village of Potoky. History lovers will appreciate a visit to Múzeum Tokajíckej tragédie, while admirers of traditional architecture will gladly visit Skanzen ukrajinskej dediny in Svidník.

Kaštieľ v Nitrianskej Blatnici

Kaštieľ v Nitrianskej Blatnici

Nitrianska Blatnica

If you visit Nitrianska Blatnica, be sure to come and view the landmark of the village. The Renaissance manor house located in its northern part. If you have more time, we definitely recommend visiting this interesting attraction.

The village in which it is located has a rich history. It was made famous mainly by archaeological discoveries from the era of the Great Moravian Empire. The foundations of Kaštieľ v Nitrianskej Blatnici were created as early as 1569, when Ladislav Zeleméry built a curia here. In 1583, with the permission of King Rudolf, it was rebuilt into a fortified manor house with two fortified bastions, which was intended to serve as a refuge from Turkish raids. After later, mainly Renaissance and Baroque rebuilds, the manor house lost its fortress character and acquired the form of a luxurious manor residence.

After the Zeleméry family, several noble families became owners of the manor house. Let us mention at least the more prominent ones: the Dóczy, Esterházy, and Leonhardy families. It is precisely after the last owners that the manor house still bears its name today. After World War II, Leonhardovský kaštieľ served as a convalescent center for war veterans. Later, it also housed a school, a cinema, the municipal office, and the headquarters of an agricultural cooperative. Unfortunately, after 1989, gradual devastation of the manor house occurred. The current owner is gradually reconstructing it. In 2008, it received a new roof, and minor masonry work was also carried out. Despite this, the manor house is inaccessible to the public, and you can only admire it from the exterior. We believe that this national cultural monument will soon acquire a dignified appearance and will also serve the development of tourism.

In addition to the manor house, visitors can also view the extensive nearby park, which is designed in an English landscape style. It represents an undisturbed place for romantic walks and relaxation. Come and marvel at the beauty of ancient trees and draw peace and energy provided by a walk through the tangle of paths beneath their crowns.

Other interesting places are also located in the surroundings of the village. Perhaps the nearby Rotunda sv. Juraja will catch your attention with its appearance and history. Or will the view from Rozhľadňa na Marháte captivate you instead? We definitely recommend history lovers to visit the interesting Archeologické múzeum Veľkej Moravy v Bojnej. Ranč pod Babicou in Bojná with its adjacent pond will, in turn, appeal to those who enjoy good food and countryside life.

When planning your visit, do not forget to book accommodation near Kaštieľ v Nitrianskej Blatnici. You might be the ones to experience unforgettable moments in apartments Nitrianska Blatnica or take advantage of the hospitality and coziness of challets Nitrianska Blatnica. Come and enjoy the uniqueness of this beautiful corner of Slovakia with your family or friends. You will certainly not regret it.
