Tatras Tower

Tatras Tower

Vysoké Tatry mesto

The attraction is located in the Štrbské Pleso area, in the village of Štrba, in the Poprad district, at an altitude of approximately 1,350 meters. The tower reaches a height of 53 meters, and its spiral path with a gentle incline ensures comfortable and barrier-free access all the way to the very top. During the ascent, visitors pass by educational boards that introduce the fauna, flora, and history of the Tatry mountains, thus the tower also fulfills an educational function. The main attraction is an adrenaline-inducing walking net at a height of almost 50 meters above the ground and a glass floor that offers a view directly beneath the visitors' feet. For thrill-seekers, the longest and highest-situated dry slide in Slovakia is available, which can be used to shorten the way down. A visit to the tower is possible all year round, while every sunset or temperature inversion in the valleys gives the view an unmistakable atmosphere.

What can you find here?

In the tower complex, you will find a spiral observation path, an adrenaline net, a glass observation platform, and a sixty-one-meter-long dry slide. Interactive educational stations, a souvenir shop, and modern technical facilities, including restrooms, are available. In the immediate vicinity, there are parking lots and starting points for hiking trails around the Areál snov area.

Who is this place suitable for?

The location is ideal for families with children who will appreciate the fun elements and a safe route to the top, as well as for seniors and persons with limited mobility due to the barrier-free access. It is also sought after by landscape photographers and adrenaline lovers who want to try walking on a net above the abyss. Due to the open character of the structure, warmer clothing is recommended even during the summer months, as it can be windy at the top.

What can you visit in the surrounding area?

Just a few minutes of walking separate the tower from the iconic Štrbské pleso lake, which is ideal for walks or boating. You can also visit the Symbolický cintorín (Symbolic Cemetery) at Popradské pleso lake or set off on a hike to the Vodopád Skok (Skok Waterfall) in the Mlynická dolina valley. That is why the Rozhľadňa Terchovské srdce observation tower is an ideal destination for mothers with children, mobility-impaired visitors, or elderly people.

This relatively newly built observation tower, accessible since October 2015, is the final stop on an educational trail focused on discovering the fauna and flora of Národný park Malá Fatra. The route is approximately one kilometer long. Ascent directly onto the tower is via a narrower staircase.

The name of the observation tower originated from the song: "To terchovské srdce na dvoje sa delí, jedna strana plače, druhá sa veselí..." ("That Terchová heart splits in two, one side cries, the other rejoices..."). The older generation also recalls the filming of the 1935 movie Jánošík featuring actor Paľo Bielik. Until recently, a gallows, a prop from this movie, stood on Oblaz hill. It was precisely this prop that inspired the well-known Slovak artist Alojz Mucha when designing the observation tower.

It is somewhat chilling, but here you can also find a mass grave of local residents from the 19th-century plague epidemic. Today, Oblaz is mainly sought after by visitors because of the steel observation tower. It offers visitors beautiful views of Malý Rozsutec, Veľký Rozsutec, Boboty, Tiesňavy, Poludňový Grúň, Obšívanky, or Sokolie.

The observation tower is accessible free of charge throughout the entire year. The location is part of a protected landscape area, and marked hiking trails connecting Modra-Piesok with the valley of the Gidra stream pass through it.

What can you find here?

Near the Green Point tower, you will find modern technological facilities, information panels on renewable energy sources, and a relaxation area with charging stations. On the Kukla hill, there is a classic wooden lookout tower with a ladder climb, near which fire pits and seating for hikers are built. In both cases, these are places that combine active relaxation with exploring local nature.

Who is the place suitable for?

Both locations are ideal for families with children and recreational hikers looking for a half-day trip. Thanks to its technological aspect, Green Point nad Kluknavou is also attractive to fans of modern design and ecology, while Kukla in the Malé Karpaty attracts lovers of traditional hiking and history. The ascent to both view points is moderately demanding and can be handled by seniors or active cyclists as well.

What can you visit in the surrounding area?

In the vicinity of Kluknava, you can visit the Baroque-Neoclassical manor house in Kluknava or the historical wooden bridge over the Hornád river in the village of Štefanská Huta. Near the Kukla hill, there is the majestic Hrad Červený Kameň castle, an educational trail in the Zochova chata locality, or the rock formation Traja jazdci. For wine lovers, numerous wineries are available in the town of Modra and its district Kráľová.
