Galéria Ľudovíta Fullu

Galéria Ľudovíta Fullu

Ružomberok

Galéria Ľudovíta Fullu, which is part of the Slovak National Gallery network, is located in the district town of Ružomberok, on D. Makovického Street, right next to the Liptovské múzeum. Its permanent exhibition is dedicated to the local native Ľudovít Fulla, who is considered the founder of modern painting in Slovakia. In addition to the exhibition of paintings, the gallery also includes Fulla's tomb decorated with mosaics, the designs of which were made by the artist himself.

The exhibition of Fulla's paintings consists of a complete collection of 548 works. Among all of them, we can mention the painting Pastierik, which is simultaneously the artist's first work. In addition to paintings, the gallery also exhibits examples of the master's drawings, graphics, and illustrations. Visitors can also access the artist's own texts, with which he commented on his work. To complete the perfect illustration of the master's work, the exhibition also includes Fulla's studio, his study, and part of the living room. In addition to the permanent exhibition, various short-term and occasional exhibitions are naturally held at the Galéria Ľudovíta Fullu. Interestingly, all the works were donated to the state by the artist Ľudovít Fulla himself. Part of the deed of gift between him and the state was an agreement that in return the state would build a gallery with a studio and an apartment for him. Ľudovít Fulla spent the last years of his life in this apartment.

However, exhibitions and displays are not the only attraction of this Liptov gallery. Many visitors are appealed by the rich offer of a regular program tailored to art lovers both young and old. You can create your own work of art in the Ateliér, where various art techniques and procedures are prepared for visitors. Motifs following the ongoing exhibition and permanent exhibition are offered as inspiration. For families with children, the gallery offers the permanent program Famíliaart. It focuses on developing children's creativity through various art techniques. The program is aimed at children aged 2 to 7. The opportunity for creative leisure time is also offered by creative workshops for adults and older children called Ručne stručne or the creative journalistic workshop Fullakuk. Music and film lovers will also find something to their liking at regularly held concerts called Hudba u Fullu or at Kino u Fullu, which screens alternative film documentaries once a month.

If you love fine art, be sure to enrich your holiday in Liptov with a visit to the Galéria Ľudovíta Fullu. In winter, you can stop here on your way back from fantastic skiing in Ski Park Ružomberok Malinô Brdo, while on hot summer days you can combine your visit to the gallery with, for example, swimming in the popular Vodný park Bešeňová located just a few kilometers from Ružomberok. After a day full of artistic and adventurous experiences, you will surely be pleased by the wide range of accommodation near the Galéria Ľudovíta Fullu. You can find accommodation in Ružomberok in a pleasant apartment or guest house, or you can use stylish cottages and chalets in the immediate vicinity. Bethlenov dom

This building houses an administrative headquarters, exhibition spaces, and a depository from the collection of the Stredoslovenská galéria. The spaces are thus regularly filled and enrich the souls of all visitors. A unique feature of the gallery is artistic printmaking, the art of graphics from the second half of the 20th century. This collection is complete. The Stredoslovenská galéria, of which Bethlenov dom is also a part, focuses mainly on the presentation, research, and creation of a collection of modern and contemporary art.

Bethlenov dom consists of an entrance room and an exhibition space on the ground floor. On the upper floor, the exhibition spaces are vaulted with historical arches. A specific genius loci can thus be felt here. In the basement, groups dedicated to fine art will find something for themselves, where they can create art themselves and express themselves creatively. In the rear part of the gallery, in the library, you will find knowledge hidden in books that have been gathered here over decades.

The history of the gallery dates back to the 14th century, when a multi-story house was added to the originally tower-like burgher structure. At the entrance, a Latin inscription Benedicto domini divites facit 1610 is preserved, which in free translation means: The blessing of the Lord makes you rich. A tradition is linked to the house that Gabriel Bethlen had himself crowned as the King of Hungary here. Unfortunately, due to the unsuccessful anti-Habsburg uprising, he had to give up the crown.

On the last Sunday of the month, admission to the gallery is free. Therefore, if you plan your trip as early as Friday and book accommodation near Bethlenov dom for at least two nights, you will experience all the works of art firsthand.
