Hohenlohe zámoček

Hohenlohe zámoček

Tatranská Javorina

Surrounded by unique nature, in the cadastral area of the village of Tatranská Javorina, in a place with a beautiful view of both the Belianske Tatry and Vysoké Tatry, stands the Hohenlohe hunting lodge. It attracts visitors mainly because it is built of wood and showcases the lifestyle of the Prussian prince of that time.

The Hohenlohe hunting lodge belongs among national cultural monuments. It has been open to the public since 2015. It was designed by the architect Jean Leindecker and built between 1883 and 1885 by the Prussian prince Christian Craft Hohenlohe-Öhringen. This lodge served the prince mainly as his home, where he lived together with his wife. He also used part of the premises for representative purposes at a time when he organized hunts for guests from all over Europe. Among other things, Prince Christian himself established his own game reserve in this village, into which he imported bisons or ibexes.

The original appearance of this lodge has been preserved to this day, having undergone a partial reconstruction between 1975 and 1977. Today, the lodge serves mainly for representative purposes of the President of the Slovenská republika. You can also visit it if you book a tour date in advance. This is scheduled always for every Thursday of the month. It is possible to choose from three pre-determined free admissions. Parking at the lodge is possible only during the tour, and no fee needs to be paid for it.

During the tour, you will certainly be interested not only in the unique decoration but also in many objects, among which you can notice a telescope by the Munich optician Jacob Merc, hunting trophies, weapons, photographs, paintings, and also an unconventional gong that served to summon social events. Interesting photographs have also survived, but with regret, we must state that many objects from this lodge ended up in the original German seat of the Hohenlohe family after the world hunting exhibition in 1910. Several artifacts also "mysteriously disappeared" even before 1989.

Be sure not to miss a tour of this unique attraction, which is located in the village of Tatranská Javorina. You can plan a hike along tourist trails that were marked out in the past by Prince Hohenlohe himself. Less fit visitors will also appreciate a comfortable, albeit somewhat longer walk along the Zadné Meďodoly educational trail. In the village, do not miss the interesting Kostol svätej Anny church. In the summer season, you can rent a bicycle at the Strachan e-bike rental shop and explore the beauty of this region from its saddle. In the winter season, the slopes of the Ski TAJA - Tatranská Javorina ski resort are heavily utilized.

So that you do not have to return straight home on Thursday, we recommend taking time off and making it a sightseeing extended weekend. You just need to choose from the offer of our accommodation near the Hohenlohe lodge and everything is taken care of. For couples and families, several apartments are on offer, but if you come as a larger group, we recommend booking a cottage in this village. We will gladly help you choose the best accommodation on our portal.

Monkova dolina

Monkova dolina

Ždiar

If you are not afraid of a more demanding hike and like to learn something along the way, we will direct you to Ždiar and from there to Monkova dolina, where you can walk an interesting educational trail.

The 5 km long Monkova dolina is situated in the northern part of Belianske Tatry. At the head of this glacier-origin valley rise the peaks Hlúpy and Ždiarska vidla. The valley was named after the once widespread Ždiar surname Monka, although it is not known what relationship the Monka family had to it, whether they were the owners or leased it.

An educational trail leads through Monkova dolina, which is very beautiful, but at the same time demanding. On the more than 8 km long route with 6 stops, you need to expect a steep climb and a large elevation gain (945 m). The trail will guide you from Ždiar across the confluence of the Biela stream and Rígeľský potok, then through Monkova dolina, via Široké sedlo all the way to Kopské sedlo. Along the way, views await you not only of Belianske Tatry, but from Široké sedlo also of Vysoké Tatry. In addition to views of blooming meadows, you might also get the chance to spot chamois. The trail is accessible only from mid-June to the end of October. At the beginning of the route at the mouth of Monkova dolina, an entrance fee must be paid. Completing the trail takes about 4 to 5 hours.

Monkova dolina is not the only place you can head to from Ždiar. Plan a trip to Belasé pleso, or visit Bachledova dolina with Chodník korunami stromov. If you are interested in folk architecture, visit Ľudové múzeum - Ždiarsky dom; for children, Family Park Strachankovo or Svetelný dóm will be a great experience. In Belianske Tatry, discover Belianska jaskyňa as well. And you can enjoy winter on the slopes of resorts directly in Ždiar – Strednica, Krasuľa, Strachan, or Monkova dolina.

For all of this, you will need pleasant accommodation, and there is certainly no shortage of it here. The most common type of accommodation in Ždiar are chalets and traditional wooden houses, which will provide you with complete privacy and very good amenities, making you feel right at home. Practically equipped and well-located are apartments, which can often be found, for example, near ski slopes. Guesthouses also offer very good services, often featuring their own restaurant or even a wellness area. Monkova dolina is already looking forward to you conquering it. Rent comfortable accommodation in Ždiar and set off on an educational hike.

Zadné Meďodoly

Zadné Meďodoly

Tatranská Javorina

If you love nature and long walks, set out with us along the Náučný chodník Zadné Meďodoly educational trail and discover the beauty of the Tatras nature. Beneath this mysterious name hides a tourist educational trail in the Belianske Tatry mountains. This blue-marked trail starts near the Pošta bus stop in Tatranská Javorina (1,000 m above sea level) and ends at Kopské sedlo at an altitude of 1,750 m. Take a family trip and enjoy your stay in nature in the fresh air.

Zadné Meďodoly covers approximately 8.5 km, packed with interesting information and facts. Families with children can complete this mountain walk in 3 hours. From 10 information boards, you will learn more about the flora and fauna, the history of the valley, rocks and water, as well as what troubles the Tatras forest. You will also learn that the ruler of the forest is the bear, which has two wooden statues built here.

Walking along this new educational trail is a true experience. The surrounding nature, the sound of gurgling streams, and the forest inhabitants will surely evoke pleasant feelings in you. With its difficulty level, it is suitable for families with children as well as active seniors. The trail is perfectly maintained and you will find many seating areas for a potential rest or a snack. From Tatranská Javorina, along the trail that leads beside the Javorinka stream, you will reach the cozy Horáreň Pod Muráňom forestry lodge, where a small dachshund will welcome you. At this spot, you will learn more about the geological composition of the Tatras and how they acquired their present shape. You will also read about forest protection in the national parks of Slovakia and about the calamity caused by the bark beetle. This section of the trail is also accessible to wheelchair users and families with strollers. The most interesting peak in this part of the Belianske Tatry is Muráň, which entered history through the breeding of ibexes, which Prince Hohenlohe once raised there.

During the walk, you will come across a real curiosity: a spring gushing out of the ground. It is a very abundant water source that spews out approximately 150 liters of water per second. The trail continues into the Bránka gorge, which was created by the erosive action of the Meďodolský potok stream and rainfall activity after the retreat of glaciers. The total length of the gorge is 185 m. At the spot where the dense forest ends, you can relax at the Studnička resting place, where wooden statues of a small bear cub and its mother bear are placed. These were created by the hands of a skilled folk woodcarver from the nearby village of Ždiar. After a short break, you will find yourself on a trail where the forest is sparser, and from a distance, a view of Kopské sedlo will open up before you. In the meadow, you can admire rare flora, such as Rosebay Willowherb, Willow Gentian, or Jacquin's Ragwort. Blueberries and lingonberries grow along the trail. Above the upper timberline, you have the opportunity to discover other alpine plants, such as Spring Gentian or Evergreen Saxifrage. The final stop of our hike is Kopské sedlo, which forms the border between the Belianske Tatry and the Vysoké Tatry mountains. Your reward will be a view of all of Zadné Meďodoly and the Vysoké Tatry. Here you can decide in which direction you will continue. However, do not forget that this educational trail is accessible to the public only during the summer season from June 15 to October 31.

You will find the village on the road leading to Poland, towards the Lysá Poľana border crossing. The resort itself lies directly by the main road at the northern end of the village.

The first thing that will captivate you upon arrival is the surrounding nature. The resort is situated between the Spišská Magura mountain range and Belianske Tatry. Rising directly above it is their highest peak, Havran, at 2,152 metres above sea level. Once you see all that splendor covered in pure white snow, you will forget for a moment that you came here to ski.

In Ski centrum Strednica Ždiar, you will find approximately 3 kilometres of blue, least demanding slopes. The longest of them measures 600 metres, while most run around 300 metres in length. In addition, all the slopes are regally wide. It is thus perhaps one of the best places we know of to learn how to ski. As many as 9 ski lifts take care of rapidly moving queues, so you will certainly forget about long waits at Strednica. After all, you came to ski, not to wait.

The entire resort has artificial snowmaking capabilities, which, combined with Spišská Magura promising plenty of snow, means you will enjoy skiing here not only through winter but also into spring. Naturally, restaurants, snack bars, ski school instructors, and much more are available to make your skiing trip even more enjoyable.

You will be able to try cross-country skiing, snowparagliding, or tandem flights. In the evening, you can have fun at an open-air evening disco. Nature lovers will surely appreciate the proximity of a nearby unique attraction, Belianska jaskyňa, which ranks among the most visited caves overall. Naturally, you can also take a trip to the nearby Vysoké Tatry, Tatranská Lomnica, or Štrbské Pleso.

Strednica Ždiar is an expansive ski resort suitable for beginners. The village of Ždiar itself is huge, which guarantees ample available accommodation capacity. Right next to the resort, you will find guesthouses whose architecture resembles those in the Alps. In the center of the village, there are many private rentals, and you will also come across affordable tourist hostels. Some of the guesthouses are equipped with modern wellness centers, and there is no better relaxation after skiing than in a warm hot tub.

Ždiar, a unique and renowned village, welcomes all skiers. Just pack your bags and you are good to go. We look forward to seeing you.

Jahňací štít

Jahňací štít

Vysoké Tatry mesto

Jahňací štít rises in the northeastern part of the Vysoké Tatry, at an altitude of 2,229.6 m a. s. l., and is the easternmost high-Tatras peak. It falls into the Prešovský kraj region, under the Poprad district. Four ridges branch out from it. The southwest ridge leads via Kolový priechod to Kolovské sedlo. The northwest ridge, called hrebeň Jahnecov, separates Jahňací kotol from Kolová dolina. The southeast ridge, called Kozí hrebeň, separates Červená dolina from Dolina Bielych plies. And the last, northeast ridge, leads via Jahňací hrb into Kopské sedlo.

Jahňací štít belongs among the 6 freely accessible mountain peaks. Climbing it can be undertaken only during the period when the trails are open, usually between June and November. Among tourists, it is said to have one of the most beautiful views in the entire Vysoké Tatry.

The English traveler Robert Townson with his guide Hans Gross during their visit to Uhorsko in 1793 made the first known ascent of Jahňací štít. However, it is probable that shepherds and poachers had already been on it before them, perhaps even miners who mined copper around the peak in the 18th century. In 1911, the first winter climbers were on the peak.

You can reach the summit via various routes. The shortest one leads along the yellow and subsequently blue tourist trail from the Biela voda stop to Chata pri Zelenom plese, known as Brnčalka (approximately 2.5 hours), and subsequently (approximately another 2 hours) all the way to the summit. A longer route leads from Skalnaté pleso via Veľká Svišťovka (along the yellow and red tourist trail), or from Chata Plesnivec (along the yellow, red, and green tourist trail). You can also set off from Tatranská Javorina, Tatranská Kotlina, Tatranské Matliare, Skalnatá chata, or Tatranská Lomnica. From the summit, you will subsequently see amazing views of the Belianske Tatry, Lomnický štít, Dolina Kežmarskej Bielej vody, Kolová dolina, and Dolina Bielych plies.

As time went on, the name of the peak also changed. When Townson wrote his first-ascent itinerary in 1793, he designated it as Štít Bieleho plesa, in the original White Lake Peak. Later, the name Lastovica was used. The creators of the name were inspired by the wallcreeper (murárik červenokrídly), popularly called skalná lastovica, which occurred abundantly in this locality. The current name cannot be attributed to shepherds with certainty, although the word "jahňací" might evoke it. A more probable reason is the German and Hungarian mutation of the name, where the translation preserved the name Kamzičí štít. There is an assumption that the poachers of the time also played a role in creating the name, who once called young chamois lambs (jahňatá). In any case, we also owe the current name to the Uhorský karpatský spolok, which was active in creating the nomenclature of objects in the Tatry at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century.

The climb to Jahňací štít does not belong among extremely difficult ones, yet it is still not recommended to underestimate preparation. Go on the hike rested and full of strength. You will achieve this, for example, by staying somewhere in the vicinity of Jahňací štít, and in the morning you do not have to waste time with a long transfer from home. On our page, you will find many accommodation facilities from which everyone will surely choose the most suitable one for themselves.

Skanzen Osturňa

Skanzen Osturňa

Osturňa

Skanzen Osturňa, which lies in the distinctive Zamagurie village in northern Slovakia, in the Kežmarok district, prides itself on the designation of the largest living open-air museum in Slovakia. Since 1979, the village has been a declared Nature Reserve of Folk Architecture. To this day, Osturňa preserves its traditions, "mocking" the modern, fast-paced era full of stress and material goods.

It ranks among Slovak treasures, to which facts contribute such as that it is not artificially created and the residents have preserved certain elements within their history and culture. Whether it is the typical Osturňa dialect called "hvara", the preserved custom of wearing the Goral folk costume, working on one's farm, or traditional cuisine.

The approximately 9 km long village of Osturňa was founded in 1313 and has since gone through many difficult trials. It suffered a plague epidemic, wars, fires, and resisted uprisings. However, it also experienced many positive changes, the development of education, culture, economy, and spiritual life. By 1648, it already had its own church and rectory.

The layout of the village is shaped by the local stream, and there are numerous traditional wooden houses with enclosed yards in an interesting chain-like development. The local architecture is original and based on details that are already apparent thanks to the fact that window frames, corner log ends, and the chinking between them are painted.

Some of the original Gorals homesteads have been preserved in Osturňa. The open-air museum consists of 157 monument-protected buildings, which feature a wooden log house with a shingle-covered gabled roof in the front part of a typical yard, and a barn with a stable in the back part. Significant landmarks include the Greek Catholic late Baroque Chrám sv. Michala archanjela from 1796, the wooden Chapel of the Holy Cross from 1898, and the brick Chapel of the Dormition of the Most Holy Mother of God.

The village lies between two sought-after national parks, Tatranský národný park and Pieninský národný park. Book your accommodation on the village's website accommodation Osturňa and follow in the footsteps of the old Gorals and pristine virgin nature. The Zamagurie region is made for a trip full of experiences and exploration, so be sure not to bypass the open-air museum in Osturňa during your wanderings.

Hviezdoslavov vodopád

Hviezdoslavov vodopád

Tatranská Javorina

Vysoké Tatry undoubtedly belong to the most beautiful and sought-after tourist locations in Slovakia. The massive peaks of the Tatry mountains, deep valleys formed by glaciers, murmuring streams full of crystal clear water, unique fauna and flora, and clean air are a guarantee of satisfaction even for the most demanding tourists. One of the beautiful and interesting destinations for your walks can be Hviezdoslavov vodopád.

The beginning of your journey will lead through Tatranská Javorina. This picturesque mountain village may interest you because it was the seat of Prince Hohenlohe, who had a beautiful two-story wooden hunting lodge built here. Your steps may also lead around the ancient wooden Kostol sv. Anny church. You can reach the waterfall along the blue tourist trail through the Bielovodská dolina valley. This was named after the wild mountain river Biela voda. Its bed is strewn with white granite pebbles. This valley is interesting because, as the only one in the Vysoké Tatry, it has an alpine character. This was given to it by the glacier that shaped it. During the glaciation period, it reached a length of up to 14 km and a thickness of 300 m. It is the longest Tatry valley, measuring over 10 km. However, you can also reach the waterfall by the ground funicular to Hrebienok, around Zbojnícka chata through Prielom, and past Zamrznuté pleso.

Kriváň

Kriváň

Vysoké Tatry mesto

Although Kriváň is not the highest Slovak mountain, it is probably the most famous one, and thanks to its unique silhouette, it has become a symbol of our country that you can even find on Slovak euro coins. It towers above Nefcerská dolina, Kôprová dolina, and Važecká dolina. The hike to Kriváň starts at Štrbské pleso or Tri studničky, with a moderately demanding trail leading to the summit.

With an altitude of 2,495 meters above sea level, Kriváň is the tenth highest Slovak peak and at the same time the second highest accessible point in Slovak mountains. The southern and southwestern slopes still bear traces of mining activity that took place here between the 15th and 18th centuries. The miners who worked here were undoubtedly the first conquerors of the peak; however, the first written record of an ascent was made in 1772 by a Lutheran preacher and naturalist from Spišská Nová Ves, Andreas Jonas Czirbesz, together with his friends. Theodor Wundt, along with guide Jakub Horvay, etched his name into the history of Kriváň by completing the first winter ascent in 1884.

A tradition of national ascents is tied to Kriváň, making them the oldest cultural and hiking event in Slovakia. The first ascent took place on August 16, 1841, and was attended by Ľudovít Štúr and Michal M. Hodža. The largest Kriváň pilgrimage was organized by Štefan M. Daxner in 1861. National ascents continue to take place, mostly in the second half of August, and traditionally commemorate the memory of the Slovak National Uprising (SNP).

If you are planning a trip to Kriváň, you likely won't feel like traveling back home after the descent. Therefore, book an apartment or a room in a hotel or guesthouse at Štrbské Pleso through our portal, or look for a cozy cottage, for example in nearby Tatranský Lieskovec, or an affordable private rental in Štrba.

Rysy

Rysy

Vysoké Tatry mesto

Rysy, consisting of three peaks, are among the most popular hiking destinations for tourists in Slovakia. They form the main ridge of the Vysoké Tatry and are located on the border of the Slovak and Polish republic. The starting point is the village of Štrbské Pleso.

This is a more demanding ascent, suitable rather for moderately advanced or experienced hikers. The hike begins at an altitude of 1,347 m a. s. l. by the lake Štrbské pleso and ends at an altitude of 2,499 m a. s. l. The significant elevation gain and the length of the hike itself (approx. 8 hours round trip) are demanding in terms of time and physical condition, but the reward is wonderful views from the summit. You will even enjoy as many as 3 peaksfirst the southeastern and main one, and finally through steep serpentines the viewpoint peak of Rysov.

During the nearly 10 km route, you will encounter other interesting places and views. First, you will have the opportunity to compare Štrbské and Popradské pleso. Further on, the trail stretches through Mengusovskou dolinou, above Veľké Žabie pleso. You will experience adrenaline when overcoming a traverse with the help of chains. Precisely because of this passage, ascending Rysy is not recommended during black ice or summer snow, as the section is extremely dangerous. After a demanding journey, you will appreciate rest and refreshment at Chate pod Rysmi, the highest-situated mountain chalet. From there, the final steep section awaits you all the way up to Rysy itself.

Rysy were first conquered in 1840 by the visitor Eduard Blasy, and today around 25,000 tourists complete this route annually. One must prepare appropriately for the ascent and count on a full day. Therefore, it is best to find accommodation in the Vysoké Tatry. You can find inspiration for accommodation near Rysov in a chalet, apartment, guesthouse, or hotel on our website.

Gerlachovský štít

Gerlachovský štít

Vysoké Tatry mesto

Gerlachovský štít is among the greatest landmarks of the High Tatras. This is not only due to its altitude of 2,655 m a.s.l., which makes it the highest peak in Slovakia, but also thanks to its unmistakable appearance, untouched nature, and hiking possibilities. However, if you also want to be among the lucky ones who have conquered this majestic peak, keep in mind that ascent is only possible accompanied by a mountain guide.

In the past, back in the 18th century, Kriváň, another inimitable Tatra giant, was determined as the highest peak based on elevation measurements. In the 19th century, however, Ľudovít Greiner determined Gerlachovský štít to be the highest peak of the High Tatras, and it holds its primacy to this day. It is part of the peaks that form the famous Gerlachovský kotol basin. The ascent by Ján Still and his companions in 1834 is considered the first known ascent of Gerlach. The first reliably documented ascent was completed by Viennese military mappers in 1868.

The most popular ascent route leads from Sliezsky dom via Velická próba, with a descent via Batizovská próba. However, Martinova cesta is considered by hikers to be the most attractive route, starting either from Litvorové sedlo or Poľské hrebeň and subsequently by abseiling from Velický štít. No matter how you reach the summit, your reward will be breathtaking views of almost all surrounding mountain ranges and Tatra peaks. Malá Fatra and Veľká Fatra, Nízke Tatry, Kozie chrbty, Slovenský raj, and many others will be in the palm of your hand. Under favorable weather conditions, you will even see Kékes in Hungary, Lysá hora in the Moravian-Silesian Beskids in neighboring Czechia, as well as many Polish and Ukrainian peaks.

Do you know the famous observatories at Skalnaté pleso and Lomnický štít? Originally, it was considered that one of them would be located right on Gerlach, after its construction on Slavkovský štít was rejected. And that is just one of the interesting facts, Gerlachovský štít hides many more. However, the mountain guides, for whom this Tatra majesty has become a second home, will tell you the most about them.

A hike to Gerlach needs to be properly planned. We suggest starting by finding suitable accommodation near Gerlachovský štít, which you can find right on our website. The ascent of Gerlachovský štít is a once-in-a-lifetime experience; we wish you plenty of strength and a safe return home in good health.

Vodopád Skok

Vodopád Skok

Vysoké Tatry mesto

The majestic Vodopád Skok is located in the Vysoké Tatry mountains in the Mlynická valley. It is frequently visited by tourists and easily accessible even for families with children. You can visit it year-round, but it is nevertheless most beautiful and massive when the ice melts.

Vodopád Skok lies at an altitude of 1,789 meters above sea level and its height is 30 meters. Its water source is Pleso nad Skokom, located above it. The view of the waterfall leaves no one indifferent, and thanks to the surrounding peaks, you will stand before it open-mouthed. This watercourse is indeed a magnificent sight to behold.

To Vodopád Skok, it is literally just a stone's throw away (a hop away). Which is great, especially for seniors and families with children. This easy Tatras hike will take you approximately 1.5 to 2 hours on the way there. And even children from about 4 years old can handle it, with the right motivation, of course.

Start your hike at Štrbské Pleso. Here you will also find a parking lot for your car, or you can take the rack railway train here from the village of Štrba. Štrbské Pleso is a tourist starting point for many hikes. Find the yellow trail marker and set off along it. The route begins with an asphalt road into Mlynická dolina. Here you will be treated to a beautiful view of the western peaks of the Vysoké Tatry: Soliská, Štrbský štít, and Patria. You will pass by ski jumping ramps and then continue along a paved and later stony path through dwarf pine to the waterfall.

Vodopád Skok will charm both young and adult hikers. The older ones can continue to Pleso nad Skokom, to which the trail continues. However, part of the route here goes over rocks, and you need to hold on to chains. Therefore, if you are afraid of heights, stay to admire Vodopád Skok from below. The walls of the Tatras rocks near the waterfall also provide space for rock climbers. In winter, ski touring enthusiasts like to come here instead.

A trip to the waterfall is a great experience. If you decide to stay for a holiday in the Vysoké Tatry, you will not regret it. Accommodation near Vodopád Skok as well as accommodation at Štrbské Pleso can be found on our portal. Various types of facilities are available: private cottages, chalets for rent, comfortable apartments, guesthouses, and large hotels with wellness services for the demanding. Choose today. Kmeťov vodopád

Kmeťov vodopád

Vysoké Tatry mesto

Kmeťov vodopád, with its impressive height of 80 m, is the highest waterfall in Slovakia. If you want to visit it, you will find it in a spruce forest on the western side of the lower slopes of Kriváň peak. Its exact location is Kôprová dolina in the western part of Vysoké Tatry. The waters of Nefcerský potok fall from an altitude of 1,245 m above sea level.

The waterfall bears the attributes glacial, tectonic, and selective. Miloš Janoška gave it its name in the 1st Slovak guide to the Tatras from 1911. It was named after the Slovak scholar and priest Andrej Kmeť. The waterfall is formed by two steps, and the water falls in a relatively narrow, wild, and cascading stream.

To find it, you have to go further off the path. It is well hidden in the forest. You will not see it from the road. You will have a nice view of the waterfall from above from a wooden viewing platform, which is actually a bridge over the bed of Nefcerský potok. You can reach it via a path after turning off the blue-marked hiking trail in Kôprová dolina. The cycling route ends as well.

A popular walking and cycling route leads from the Podbanské parking lot along the yellow, green, and subsequently blue hiking trail. It is an easy hike lasting approximately 2 hours and 15 minutes, with a length of about 8.5 km. Another route from Podbanské leads along the red hiking trail, later joining the blue one, and is 1.5 km longer compared to the previous one.

Another frequently used route leads from the parking lot at the former Važecká chata at Tri studničky. It is 1.5 kilometers shorter than the one leading from Podbanské; however, it is more challenging, although it is more scenic thanks to passing through the forest. At its beginning and end, there is a steeper hill that needs to be conquered.

Experienced hikers can choose from two interesting yet demanding routes. One leads from Štrbské pleso, through Popradské pleso, Hincové plesá, Vyšné Kôprovské sedlo, and subsequently through Hlinská dolina to Kôprová dolina. The second route leads through Tichá dolina from Podbanské, through Liptovský košiar, Sedlo Závory, and subsequently through Kobylia dolina to Kôprová dolina. These are hikes demanding both in terms of required physical fitness and covered distance, elevation gain, and time.

Whichever route you choose, your reward will be a visit to a waterfall that is not overcrowded with tourists. Since there is no mountain shelter located in its vicinity, we recommend booking an overnight stay on the pages accommodation Podbanské or accommodation Štrbské Pleso, where the starting points of the hike are located. Consider a longer stay as well and visit various other attractions in the surroundings of Vysoké Tatry. There are many of them, and each is more interesting than the last.

Zelené pleso

Zelené pleso

Vysoké Tatry mesto

Zelené pleso is one of the most romantic tarns in the Vysoké Tatry mountains. This glacial lake, lying at an altitude of 1551 m a.s.l., was named thanks to the springs that well up at its bottom and cause green spots. However, a more interesting variation is the ancient legend according to which a dazzling green gemstone fell into it from Jastrabej veže tower.

If you were looking on a map, point your finger to the eastern part of the Vysoké Tatry, to the Doliny Bielej vody kežmarskej valley, or the Doliny Zeleného plesa valley. Thanks to a maximum depth of 4.5 m, you can see all the way to the bottom of this moraine tarn from near the shore. With an area of 1.78 ha, it does not belong among the largest tarns, but it is definitely one of the most beautiful.

This turquoise-colored tarn is a popular destination not only for experienced hikers, skiers, and cyclists but also for families with older children or active seniors. Even so, good physical fitness is recommended, as the hike with an elevation gain of 855 meters along the yellow tourist trail is only moderately difficult, yet relatively lengthy. However, if that is not enough for you, the natural continuation of the route is the ascent to Jahňací štít peak or continuing to Skalnaté pleso.

The dominant feature of the view is the well-known "Brnčalka", as the Chata pri Zelenom plese mountain hut is called, which, thanks to its ochre facade, cannot be confused with any other. The history of the first shelter on the site of the current hut dates back to the end of the 1890s. It is open year-round, and if you are planning a challenging hike to the surrounding peaks, it is a suitable place for an overnight stay. Otherwise, do you know about its unusual phenomenon, which is more known from Nordic countries? In the period from October to March, not a single ray of sun touches it. Despite this, it is very popular even during this period.

The starting points for the hike to Zelenému plesu are Tatranské Matliare, the Biela Voda bus stop, or Tatranská Lomnica. For a perfect hiking experience, good planning is necessary, especially if you are traveling with children. So that you are not under time pressure to return home before dark, we recommend booking accommodation nearby in advance. You can find the best offers for accommodation near Zeleného plesa, as well as accommodation Tatranské Matliare or accommodation Tatranská Lomnica, directly on our website.

Belasé pleso

Belasé pleso

Ždiar

Belasé pleso is located in the northeastern part of the Vysoké Tatry, more precisely in Dolina Zeleného Plesa, which is part of Červená dolina. The waters of the tarn fill a glacial cirque and its lower part is dammed by a moraine 6 m high. The tarn has no surface inlet or outlet. It belongs among the smaller Tatra tarns, with an area of only 0.07 ha, a length of 40 m. Therefore, in the summer months, it often dries up completely, reaching its maximum depth of 3.8 m only during cold and humid months.

The name of Belasé pleso originated from the apparent color of the water, created by reflections on the water surface. It lies at an altitude of 1,862 m a. s. l., and towering above it to the north are Kozí štít and Jahňací štít, to the west Kolové sedlo, and to the south Jastrabia veža. The high-altitude hike is suitable mainly for experienced hikers with good physical fitness. Many combine it with a crossing from Malá Studená dolina to Veľká Studená dolina. Whichever path you choose, you will not regret it.

Päť Spišských plies is actually a group of five lakes of glacial origin. Are you wondering why they are named "Spišské" when they are actually in the Tatras? They received their name in the past, derived from the Spiš County (župa) to which the lakes belonged. You can see them in this order: Malé Spišské pleso, Prostredné Spišské pleso, Veľké Spišské pleso, Vyšné Spišské pleso, and Nižné Spišské pleso. They are located at an altitude of approximately 2,000 m above sea level.

Start your hike to Spišské plesá in Starý Smokovec. If you want to save yourself some kilometers and leg strength, take the funicular up to Hrebienok. If you are lucky, along the way you will see herds of chamois or hear marmots whistling. Vysoké Tatry mesto

Kôprovský štít is one of the majestic peaks of the High Tatras located at the end of Mengusovská dolina. It belongs to the cadastral area of Štrbské Pleso in the Prešov Region. The ascent to the peak is a medium-difficulty hike. It can be managed by hikers who already have some mountain experience under their belt. From the top, you will enjoy a panoramic view in all directions of the surrounding Tatras peaks.

Kôprovský štít rises to an altitude of 2,363 m above sea level and is one of eight peaks in the High Tatras that you can hike up without a mountain guide. The elevation gain you will overcome is around 1,000 metres, and the route is approximately 20 kilometres long round trip. Be sure to pack enough liquids and food, as the only chalet you will pass is Chata pri Popradskom plese.

The hiking trail to Kôprovský štít starts from Štrbské pleso towards Popradské pleso. You can reach this point via an asphalt road, and you can refresh yourself at Chata pri Popradskom plese. Further on, head towards the junction nad Žabím potokom, through dwarf pines all the way into Mengusovská dolina. Once you cross Hincov potok and continue up the steep section, you will reach Veľké Hincovo pleso. It is the largest and deepest tarn on the Slovak side of the High Tatras. Due to its high altitude, it is frozen for most of the year. Pause and enjoy the magnificent view of the surrounding mountains here.

If you are lucky, besides other hikers, you might also spot chamois jumping on the rocks along the way. And if you remain quiet, you will hear the whistling of marmots. From Veľké Hincovo pleso, you will ascend through Vyšné Kôprovské sedlo all the way to Kôprovský štít. You will not find any cross here like on other peaks, but the views will enchant you, and you will remember this amazing ascent for a long time. In the distance, you can see mountains in all directions: Mengusovské štíty, Vysoká, Kriváň, and in good weather, even Lomnický štít.

If you decide to go to Kôprovský štít via a less frequented route, try it from Kôprová dolina. The hike starts at Tri studničky. Although it takes longer, spending plenty of time in the Tatras is well worth it. For hikers, this place is downright ideal for a holiday.

Astronomické observatórium Skalnaté Pleso

Astronomické observatórium Skalnaté Pleso

Vysoké Tatry mesto

A magnet for tourists visiting the Tatras is the moraine lake lying at the foot of the impressive Lomnický štít. Skalnaté pleso boasts an intersection of picturesque natural scenery and breathtaking views. It is precisely within this unique natural composition that the oldest Slovak observatory found its home,  the Astronomické observatórium Skalnaté pleso observatory. The dominant two-dome structure is located just a few meters from the lake itself and the cable car station. The direct access point to this site is one of the largest settlements in High Tatras, the tourist-favorite Tatranská Lomnica.

The Astronomické observatórium Skalnaté pleso was founded in 1943. Its founder, Dr. Antonín Bečvář, served as its first director. The observatory is located in a two-story building at an altitude of 1,786 m above sea level. The structure catches the eye with its cylindrical tower and two opening domes. Housed right here are two telescopes designed for observing planets, comets, Solar System objects, and stellar bodies. In addition, the observatory building houses a meteorological station belonging to the Geophysical Institute of the Slovak Academy of Sciences (SAV). Visitors only have access during organized open days.

An interesting fact is that asteroid 2619 was named after the Astronomické observatórium Skalnaté pleso. It received the name Skalnaté pleso. Since 1982, when the naming of the minor planet was recognized by the International Astronomical Union, Skalnaté pleso is no longer found only in our high mountains, but also somewhere in the orbit of the Sun, at a minimum distance of 279 million km from Earth.

While a journey to the asteroid Skalnaté pleso is a thing of the distant future, you can comfortably ride up to our terrestrial Skalnaté pleso by cable car from Tatranská Lomnica. Hiking enthusiasts can set off on an ascent along a moderately challenging trail lasting 2 hours and 40 minutes.

Be sure to include a trip to the Astronomické observatórium Skalnaté pleso in your Tatra holiday itinerary. Your reward will be not only the opportunity to get into close proximity to a world-renowned observatory, but also a magnificent view of the Tatra valleys. And if you really do not feel like staying grounded, board the cable car leading all the way up to Lomnický štít and look at the Tatras from the perspective of their second highest giant. There is certainly no shortage of experiences at Skalnaté pleso and in the surrounding area. Book your accommodation near Astronomické observatórium Skalnaté pleso and set off on your holiday in the Tatras. Picturesque apartments, affordable guesthouses, or stylish cottages. You will find all of this in the diverse range of accommodation in Tatranská Lomnica. Choose the right one for you, pack high-quality hiking boots, and you are ready to go.

Skalnaté pleso

Skalnaté pleso

Vysoké Tatry mesto

Skalnaté pleso is one of the most popular tourist spots in the Vysoké Tatry mountains. You can get here from Tatranská Lomnica on foot along a marked hiking trail or by cable car. It makes a beautiful trip for families with children as well.

Skalnaté pleso is located at an altitude of 1,755 m above sea level, and an educational trail leads around it, keeping even the youngest visitors entertained. At the top of the cable car station, there is a restaurant with a sun terrace, and right next to it is a children's playground - Svištia krajinka, where kids can play to their heart's content. You will find wooden marmot sculptures, climbing frames, a marmot cabin, and many other attractions here.

The tarn is of morainic origin, formed naturally after the Ice Age. No fish live in it, and its water level fluctuates. Interestingly, during dry periods, the lake dries up, which has been influenced not only by climate change but also by the construction of the cable car station.

From Skalnaté pleso, you can take a cable car to Lomnický štít, which towers to an altitude of 2,634 m above sea level directly above the tarn, creating breathtaking views. Near the tarn, at an altitude of 1,781 m above sea level, you will also discover the Astronomické observatórium, which includes an observatory.

Skalnaté pleso is magnificent in both winter and summer. During a winter skiing trip, you can relax here before hitting the slopes, on what is, by the way, the steepest ski slope in Slovakia. However, don't forget to check the weather forecast; the Vysoké Tatry can be unpredictable. Set out on a trip here and you certainly won't regret it. Popradské pleso

Popradské pleso

Vysoké Tatry mesto

In Mengusovská dolina, you will find the fourth largest lake in Slovakia – Popradské pleso. Popradské pleso covers an area of almost 7 hectares, is situated at an altitude of 1,494 m above sea level, and reaches a depth of 17 meters. It is just as sought after as the other tarns in Vysoké Tatry.

The tarn was formed in the last ice age after the retreat of glaciers by water flowing in from surrounding peaks and valleys. The path to it is suitable for any determined person, as this route can be managed even by wheelchair users – access is also provided via a paved asphalt road. Find nearby accommodation for families with children, large groups of friends, cyclists, vital seniors, or couples in love, and enjoy Popradské pleso.

In the 18th century, Popradské pleso was also referred to as Rybie pleso. Why? As the only one located on the southern side of the Tatry, it provided a home to the brown trout. In 1879, the first tourist mountain hut was built here, Chata pri Popradskom plese, also known as Chata kpt. Morávku. An interesting feature of Popradské pleso is also Symbolický cintorín (the Symbolic Cemetery for the Victims of the High Tatras), located in a Swiss pine grove under Ostrva. Here, they also honored 13 victims of a 1974 avalanche.

In addition to the blue hiking trail, you can also choose other difficulty levels for your hike to Popradské pleso. It depends entirely on you whether you select the station Popradské Pleso, Štrbské Pleso, or Sliezsky dom as your starting point.

If you plan to stay in the Tatry longer, we definitely recommend choosing from our selection of accommodations, which includes hotels near Popradské pleso, or private cottages near Popradské pleso. Hrebienok

Hrebienok

Vysoké Tatry mesto

The Vysoké Tatry are a synonym for good skiing and a guarantee of plenty of snow. If you cannot imagine winter without biting frosts and endless snow fun, visit Hrebienok.

It is located above well-known Starý Smokovec, the administrative center of the Vysoké Tatry. A comfortable road leads from Starý Smokovec straight to Hrebienok, the paradise of winter fun. You can reach the most famous Tatra settlement by car or bus. Your first steps will lead to a beautiful wooden church building, which is the pride and a representative of traditional Tatra architecture.

It is right here that you will find the station for the cable car to Hrebienok. It is exceptional because it is a funicular. Modern and fast, it replaced its older predecessor just a few years ago. Another alternative is a hiking trail or an asphalt road leading all the way up to Hrebienok, to an altitude of almost 1,300 meters above sea level.

Hrebienok is a tourist hub not only in winter, but also in summer. It serves as a starting point for hikes along the Tatranská magistrála trail, into Veľká studená dolina or Malá studená dolina. Almost directly at Hrebienok, you will find the well-known Bilíkova chata, and just a short distance further, Rainerova chata, Zamkovského chata, or Vodopády Studeného potoka. Pure natural beauty. And as if that were not enough, the majestic Slavkovský štít, which in the distant past was considered the highest Tatra peak, will tower directly above your head.

Even if hiking boots are not your favorite footwear, you won't be bored at Hrebienok either. Here you will find snowtubing, a ride down a snow trough on an inflatable tube. Many find riding mountain scooters or the new addition, mountain carts, attractive. In summer, you can enjoy the ride all the way down to Starý Smokovec. In winter, the road serves as a toboggan track. You can rent a sled, take the funicular up, and thus avoid the grueling pull up the hill. The toboggan track is equipped with artificial lighting, and night sledding is a unique experience you should definitely treat yourself to.

Skiing and snowboarding enthusiasts will also find good conditions prepared here, although operations at Hrebienok are always uncertain. The more demanding slope from Hrebienok at the foot of Slavkovský štít opens only very sporadically. The slope leading down to Starý Smokovec occasionally struggles with a lack of snow. You will certainly have fun at Hrebienok, but if you love skiing, try checking the snow conditions and plan a backup strategy for a nearby ski resort in the area.

You can stay directly at the hotel on Hrebienok. Every morning, you will wake up to a view of the entire Podtatranská kotlina basin, with Slavkovský štít above your head and Lomnický štít off to the side. Alternatively, choose accommodation in Starý Smokovec, which offers a variety of luxury hotels, beautiful guesthouses, as well as affordable private rentals. A vacation in the Tatras thus doesn't have to be just for snobs, but for everyone.

Belianska jaskyňa

Belianska jaskyňa

Vysoké Tatry mesto

Underground worlds have fascinated people since time immemorial. Caves provided shelter, and today they are sought-after tourist attractions. If you are planning a holiday to Vysoké Tatry or to Zamagurie, pay close attention. You should not miss a visit to Belianska jaskyňa under any circumstances.

Belianska jaskyňa lies near the village of Tatranská Kotlina. You can reach it from Tatranská Lomnica or from Spišská Belá. It is located on the left side of the road in the Kobylí vrch massif. There are several caves in Vysoké Tatry, but Belianska jaskyňa is the only one open to the public. It features rich dripstone decoration and is well worth a tour. An educational trail leads up to it. In less than a kilometer, you will pass information boards that will familiarize you with environmental protection, flora, fauna, and the history of the cave itself.

The cave was discovered by gold prospectors as early as 1826, but it was subsequently forgotten. It was rediscovered in 1881 and opened to the public in 1884. An interesting fact is that electric lighting was introduced into the cave in 1896—just 12 years after the invention of the light bulb. Another curious fact was the attempt to transform the ordinary dripstone cave into an ice cave. The lower sections of the cave were supposed to be artificially iced over, but this damaged the decorations, so the plan was abandoned.

Let's move to the present. Inside the cave, 1,370 meters of underground beauty, a 125-meter vertical rise, and exactly 860 steps await you. Dress warmly before visiting the cave; the temperature inside hovers between 5 and 6 degrees Celsius, and you will be underground for over an hour. The cave is open year-round, with the exception of a few weeks in the winter months. It is also closed every Monday. It is necessary to check visiting hours in advance online, as they differ during the high season and off-season.

In the cave, you will be captivated by flowstone waterfalls, especially in Vysoký dóm and Vodopádový dóm. Hudobná sieň is also fascinating. Its name is fitting—thanks to its exceptional acoustics, musical concerts have been held here both in the past and present. If you think the underground world is lifeless, you are mistaken. In Belianska jaskyňa alone, there are up to 7 species of bats.

You can enjoy a visit to Belianska jaskyňa from several locations. Right next to the cave is Tatranská Kotlina. There you will find beautiful, stylish accommodation in guesthouses with typical High Tatras architecture. The same applies to cozy cottages suitable both for couples in love and groups of friends. You will also find plenty of guesthouses and private accommodations in nearby Ždiar. Belianska jaskyňa is proof that in Vysoké Tatry, it is not only towering peaks that deserve attention, but also the underground world. Discover Vysoké Tatry from beneath the surface.

Tatranský národný park

Tatranský národný park

Vysoké Tatry mesto

Tatranský národný park is the oldest of all 9 national parks in our territory. It is designated by the abbreviation TANAP. It extends across the north of Central and Eastern Slovakia, in the region of the Tatry mountains. It consists of two main subunits: Východné Tatry (comprising Vysoké Tatry with a length of 26 km and Belianske Tatry with a length of 15 km) and Západné Tatry (with a length of 37 km). It reaches into the Žilinský kraj and Prešovský kraj regions, specifically the districts of Liptovský Mikuláš, Kežmarok, Poprad, and Tvrdošín. The national park covers an area of 73,800 ha, supplemented by a protective buffer zone spanning 30,703 ha. It features a network of 600 km of hiking trails and 16 marked, maintained cycling routes. The administration of Tatranský národný park has offices in Svit and Liptovský Mikuláš.

Tatranský národný park has a complex geological structure. Its relief was once shaped by glaciers, as evidenced by their remnants in the form of attractive Tatran tarns (plesá). The Tatry as a whole are mainly composed of granite and other crystalline rocks from the Paleozoic era. The climate here is one of the coldest and rainiest in our territory. Two-thirds of the national park's protected area are covered by spruce or spruce-fir forests. The only accessible cave is Belianska jaskyňa.

History of the national park

Tatranský národný park was established on January 1, 1949. Five years after its founding, a national park was also created on the Polish side of the Tatry. Its name is identical, Tatrzański Park Narodowy, and together with it, Vysoké Tatry form a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve under the Man and the Biosphere Programme. The lowest point is at an altitude of 710 m a.s.l. Conversely, the highest point of Vysoké Tatry and the entire national park is the peak of Gerlachovský štít at an elevation of 2,655 m a.s.l. The highest point of Západné Tatry is Bystrá (2,248 m a.s.l.), while the highest in Belianske Tatry is Havran (2,152 m a.s.l.). Among other highlights, we can include Modré pleso (the highest-situated tarn, elevation 2,192 m a.s.l.) and Veľké Hincovo pleso (the largest and deepest tarn, surface area 20.08 ha, depth 53.7 m).

In the past, the most frequent visitors to this natural territory were treasure hunters, herbalists, miners, hunters, and naturally, poachers. Rumors about Vysoké Tatry circulated around the world, with the first printed mention of them dating back to 1549. From then on, other explorers gradually began discovering them, eager to explore their beauty. At the turn of the 17th and 18th centuries, the first scientific works about Vysoké Tatry began to emerge.

In times long past, nature was everywhere. People felt that there was an abundance of it, and therefore no thought was given to protection. This only changed after the founding of the Hungarian Carpathian Society (Uhorský karpatský spolok) in the last third of the 19th century. People began to discuss various conservation associations and considered how to protect different species of Tatran flora and fauna. It was also necessary to regulate the areas where livestock grazed. The society was very active, fighting against poachers, withstanding the pressure of herders, and striving in every way to save Tatran nature. It also permitted the importation of non-native plants, such as rhododendrons originating from the Austrian Alps, and agreed to their acclimatization. The society dissolved after World War I, which caused significant damage to Tatran nature as well. The neglect of forest care, massive timber theft, a free hand for poachers, and the recklessness of herders all had a negative impact. The role of the society was partially taken over by the Club of Czechoslovak Tourists (Klub československých turistov) and the German Karpatenverein.

Fauna and flora of TANAP

Tatranský národný park contains numerous protected and rare species of plants and animals within its territory. The fauna of Tatranský národný park bears traces of the existence of extremely cold periods during the Ice Ages as well as subsequent warmer periods. Therefore, cosmopolitan, Palearctic, European, and endemic species occur here. An enormous quantity of all represented animal species can be found here. Research continuously takes place within the national park, discovering more and more species of animals. Among the rare animals living in the park, we can mention the Tatran marmot, golden eagle, Tatra chamois, or brown bear.

The flora of Tatranský národný park includes a wide array of diverse plants, ranging from submontane and thermophilic species, through forest, mountain, and moisture-loving plants, to alpine species. Various rare species can be found here that you will not find anywhere else in Slovakia or the Western Carpathians. These include, for example, the Tatra bellflower (zvonček hrubokoreňový) or Tatra poppy (mak tatranský). There are also representatives of glacial relics, remnants from the Ice Ages, such as mountain avens (dryádka osemlupienková) or glacier buttercup (iskerník ľadovcový). Rare plants also include the spring pasqueflower (poniklec jarný) or black sedge (ostrica černastá). National park staff focus primarily on protecting mountain and high-mountain plants, among the more well-known being dwarf pine stands or the beautiful edelweiss (plesnivec alpínsky).

The administration and staff of Tatranský národný park exert great effort to spread awareness among the public. In 1957, the Museum of the Tatranský Národný Park was established in Tatranská Lomnica. In the same year, a professional Mountain Rescue Service (Horská služba Tatranského národného parku) was set up. Over time, they also took the administration of the Symbolic Cemetery near Popradské pleso under their wing. Regulation of expanding built-up areas was implemented, and several hiking trails were closed or discontinued. In 1979, the "Clean Mountains" (Čisté hory) initiative was launched for the first time, aiming to cleanse the high-mountain environment of omnipresent litter.

Our generation remembers very well the devastating windstorm that swept through the Tatry region, and thus through the territory of Tatranský národný park, on November 19, 2004. Wind gusts reached devastating speeds of 230 km/h in places. The wind was classified as a hurricane, representing the largest Tatran disaster since 1936. More than 12,000 ha of forest were damaged. Subsequently, the forest stands were damaged by bark beetles. Many conservation organizations intervened on-site, preventing the clearance and removal of damaged stands. Sad statistics indicate that between 2004 and 2016, bark beetle infestations destroyed as many trees as the 2004 hurricane itself.

Tatranský národný park today

Since 1972, visitor numbers in Tatranský národný park have been regularly measured and recorded. While in the 1970s the average daily attendance was between 16,000 and 20,000 visitors per day, after a record in 1981 (26,250 visitors), the numbers began to decline significantly. A resurgence was recorded only at the end of the 1990s. Monitoring in recent years has shown that at the peak of the summer season. When people visit the mountains seeking healthy physical activity, cooling off, or enjoying well-deserved views—approximately 60,000 people move through TANAP daily. Among the most visited locations are Rysy, Kriváň, Skalnaté pleso, Štrbské pleso, Popradské pleso, as well as the area of Hrebienok and Studené doliny.

There are 14 nature reserves, 3 national natural monuments, and 27 national nature reserves within Tatranský národný park. It is difficult to list the most attractive or exceptional among them, as each of these places is unique, excels in its own way, and appeals to tourists differently. The best approach would be to explore them all. However, you do not become a true Tatran local or nature lover simply by the number of kilometers you have hiked along the trails. True transformation happens in the heart, out of conviction. It is precisely these people who help protect and flourish nature so that many future generations can discover and enjoy its beauty. Let us be considerate of nature. Let us teach our children to do the same. Let us spread awareness. Let actions speak for us, not boastful words.

So come and pay homage to the majestic Tatran nature. Book your accommodation near Tatranský národný park. There are more than enough options, as the park covers a vast area. Try choosing based on the planned trips you wish to take in the surroundings. Once you have a plan, you can visit the pages accommodation Prešovský kraj or accommodation Žilinský kraj. You will certainly find a location that fits perfectly into your travel plans.

Tatras Tower

Tatras Tower

Vysoké Tatry mesto

The Tatras Tower observation tower at Štrbské Pleso represents one of the most modern and highest structures of its kind in Central Europe, offering visitors unique contact with the high-mountain environment.

The attraction is located in the Štrbské Pleso area, in the village of Štrba, in the Poprad district, at an altitude of approximately 1,350 meters. The tower reaches a height of 53 meters, and its spiral path with a gentle incline ensures comfortable and barrier-free access all the way to the very top. During the ascent, visitors pass by educational boards that introduce the fauna, flora, and history of the Tatry mountains, thus the tower also fulfills an educational function. The main attraction is an adrenaline-inducing walking net at a height of almost 50 meters above the ground and a glass floor that offers a view directly beneath the visitors' feet. For thrill-seekers, the longest and highest-situated dry slide in Slovakia is available, which can be used to shorten the way down. The tower's structure is designed to withstand demanding high-mountain conditions while sensitively complementing the surrounding sports infrastructure near the ski jumps. A visit to the tower is possible all year round, while every sunset or temperature inversion in the valleys gives the view an unmistakable atmosphere.

What can you find here?

In the tower complex, you will find a spiral observation path, an adrenaline net, a glass observation platform, and a sixty-one-meter-long dry slide. Interactive educational stations, a souvenir shop, and modern technical facilities, including restrooms, are available. In the immediate vicinity, there are parking lots and starting points for hiking trails around the Areál snov area.

Who is this place suitable for?

The location is ideal for families with children who will appreciate the fun elements and a safe route to the top, as well as for seniors and persons with limited mobility due to the barrier-free access. It is also sought after by landscape photographers and adrenaline lovers who want to try walking on a net above the abyss. Due to the open character of the structure, warmer clothing is recommended even during the summer months, as it can be windy at the top.

What can you visit in the surrounding area?

Just a few minutes of walking separate the tower from the iconic Štrbské pleso lake, which is ideal for walks or boating. You can also visit the Symbolický cintorín (Symbolic Cemetery) at Popradské pleso lake or set off on a hike to the Vodopád Skok (Skok Waterfall) in the Mlynická dolina valley. For families, the Veveričí lanový park (Squirrel Rope Park) or playgrounds in the area under the ski jumps are within accessible distance.

Jezerské jazero

Jezerské jazero

Jezersko

Jezerské jazero lake was named after the small village of Jezersko nearby. The village is located only 15 kilometers from Slovenská Ves, and on the way here, you can enjoy views of the Vysoké Tatry or Belianske Tatry mountains. Lake Jezersko is located below the ridge of Spišská Magura, and this area is also called forgotten by God because it is little known among tourists. So if you long for a peaceful mountain environment and want to enjoy quietness, head to the shores of Jezerské jazero.

The small lake lies at an altitude of 919 m a.s.l. In 1967, it was declared a nature reserve. Water flows here from the surrounding slopes, and its depth is around 2 meters. Jezerský potok stream flows out of the lake. You can reach the lake along a hiking trail either from the village of Jezersko, via a route about 3 kilometers long, or from the popular Bachledova dolina valley.

Some tourists combine a trip to the lake with a walk to Bachledova rozhľadňa lookout tower, which is located on the ridge of Spišská Magura. From here, you will enjoy a beautiful view of the entire lake and its surroundings. Several legends are also connected to Jezerské jazero lake, about spirits living in it or about a powerful force that, according to legend, causes heavy rain when someone cuts down a tree near the lake. Maybe it is true and maybe not, but one thing is certain. The magical turquoise color of the water will surely leave you with a magical feeling.

You can also reach Jezerské jazero lake via a hiking trail from the village of Ždiar, Malá Franková, or Veľká Franková. The Belianske Tatry mountains will thus show themselves to you in all their glory. Benches and an information board about the local fauna and flora have been built near the small lake, where you will learn, for example, that newts live here. Unfortunately, severe windstorms in recent years have taken a toll on the surrounding forest, and it will take several years for new trees to grow here.

The surroundings of Jezersko are tailor-made for an active holiday. In addition to a trip to the lake, you can also enjoy the Chodník korunami stromov treetop walk in Bachledova dolina, or the beautiful Pieninský národný park (Pieniny National Park). For skiers, excellent skiing is also on offer near Jezersko at Bachledka Ski & Sun. Take advantage of the services of our accommodation portal and book accommodation near Jezerské jazero lake, for example on the Bachledova dolina accommodation pages. Discover other interesting tips for attractions in Belianske Tatry as well. Do not wait and set out on an adventure as soon as possible.

Vysoké Tatry mesto

Anyone who hasn't been to Hrebienok hasn't truly visited the Vysoké Tatry. This attractive tourist hub is one of the most iconic places in our high mountains. It is located above Starý Smokovec, on the southeastern slopes of Slavkovský štít. A funicular railway running from the oldest settlement of the town of Vysoké Tatry, from Starý Smokovec, will comfortably take you here in 7 minutes. Take a stroll in the beautiful surroundings, set out on a hike, or relax in a pleasant lounge area among bears. Don't worry, the bears at Hrebienok certainly won't hurt you; they are made of wood.

The Pozemná Lanovka na Hrebienok funicular connects the aforementioned settlement of Starý Smokovec and the Hrebienok peak in the Vysoké Tatry. This unique funicular railway on our territory has been in operation since 1908. On its route, it reaches a speed of 36 km/h and overcomes an elevation difference of 247 m. On a track 1,052 m long, it transports up to 1,600 people per hour. It goes without saying that a ride in the glass-walled funicular amidst the scenery of Tatra nature is an unforgettable experience for both young and old. Proof of this is that Queen Elizabeth also took a ride on the funicular to Hrebienok during her visit to the Vysoké Tatry.

Of course, the funicular ride is not the only reason why hundreds of enthusiastic tourists and nature lovers come to Hrebienok. This place is the starting point for several hiking trails. A very popular and easy walk leads from Hrebienok to Vodopády Studeného potoka, which you can comfortably manage even with smaller children. The round trip will take you about an hour. If you would like to extend your trip a bit, you can head from the waterfalls all the way to Tatranská Lomnica. The route Hrebienok – Vodopády Studeného potoka – Tatranská Lomnica will take you approximately two hours. More seasoned hikers can head from Hrebienok to Sliezsky dom, Téryho chata, or Zbojnícka chata. A very popular hiking trail leads from Hrebienok to Slavkovský štít, which you can complete, including the return journey, in under 8 hours.

After returning to Hrebienok, you can refresh yourself at the local Snack bar located right in the funicular building. Alternatively, relax in the pleasant bear zone. At Hrebienok, you will be welcomed by its patron, a large iron bear named Kubo. He traveled all the way from Trebišov and boasts strong teeth made of iron wedges and eyes made of semi-precious stones. He has his wooden friends on Dolná lúka. In their company, you can enjoy a pleasant rest and recharge your energy for walks in Tatra nature.

After a lovely day spent at Hrebienok, the funicular will take you back down to Starý Smokovec. However, your adventure does not have to end here. Right in this Tatra settlement, you can visit Tricklandia, a popular gallery of trick art and optical illusions, and in winter, you can enjoy great skiing on the gentle slope of Jakubková lúka. If you no longer have the energy for more adventures after your trip to Hrebienok, find accommodation near Pozemná lanovka na Hrebienok and enjoy the remaining Tatra adventures the next day.
