Kaštieľ v Nitrianskej Blatnici
If you visit Nitrianska Blatnica, be sure to come and view the landmark of the village. The Renaissance manor house located in its northern part. If you have more time, we definitely recommend visiting this interesting attraction.
The village in which it is located has a rich history. It was made famous mainly by archaeological discoveries from the era of the Great Moravian Empire. The foundations of Kaštieľ v Nitrianskej Blatnici were created as early as 1569, when Ladislav Zeleméry built a curia here. In 1583, with the permission of King Rudolf, it was rebuilt into a fortified manor house with two fortified bastions, which was intended to serve as a refuge from Turkish raids. After later, mainly Renaissance and Baroque rebuilds, the manor house lost its fortress character and acquired the form of a luxurious manor residence.
After the Zeleméry family, several noble families became owners of the manor house. Let us mention at least the more prominent ones: the Dóczy, Esterházy, and Leonhardy families. It is precisely after the last owners that the manor house still bears its name today. After World War II, Leonhardovský kaštieľ served as a convalescent center for war veterans. Later, it also housed a school, a cinema, the municipal office, and the headquarters of an agricultural cooperative. Unfortunately, after 1989, gradual devastation of the manor house occurred. The current owner is gradually reconstructing it. In 2008, it received a new roof, and minor masonry work was also carried out. Despite this, the manor house is inaccessible to the public, and you can only admire it from the exterior. We believe that this national cultural monument will soon acquire a dignified appearance and will also serve the development of tourism.
In addition to the manor house, visitors can also view the extensive nearby park, which is designed in an English landscape style. It represents an undisturbed place for romantic walks and relaxation. Come and marvel at the beauty of ancient trees and draw peace and energy provided by a walk through the tangle of paths beneath their crowns.
Other interesting places are also located in the surroundings of the village. Perhaps the nearby Rotunda sv. Juraja will catch your attention with its appearance and history. Or will the view from Rozhľadňa na Marháte captivate you instead? We definitely recommend history lovers to visit the interesting Archeologické múzeum Veľkej Moravy v Bojnej. Ranč pod Babicou in Bojná with its adjacent pond will, in turn, appeal to those who enjoy good food and countryside life.
