Galéria Plusmínusnula

Galéria Plusmínusnula

Žilina

Do you love art? If so, visit Galéria Plusmínusnula, which is located in the information center of the Neologická synagóga in Žilina. Despite being an intimate exhibition space of smaller dimensions, you can view works by a young generation of artists, architects, and designers here. Come and enjoy contemporary art for yourself and support young artists.

The creation of the gallery was brought about by a group of three people: architects Dušan Voštenák, Lenka Voštenáková, and artist Ján Gašparovič. The project was also realized thanks to the financial support of the European Regional Development Fund. The first exhibition took place on May 20, 2011, and the first artist to exhibit here was Ašot Haas, a Slovak artist of Russian origin.

Galéria Plusmínusnula was formerly located in a commercial space on Mydlárska Street, but since 2014, this tiny gallery with an area of 37 m² moved to a renovated extension of the so-called Nová synagóga. Its premises are situated near the main entrance under the terrace. Since the gallery's area is not very large, the exhibitions held here regularly consist of only a few exhibits. It is also very often used by students and aspiring artists.

You certainly will not be bored in Žilina. After stopping at the house of art, move on to another one and this time explore art that conceals a spiritual message within. You can find an exhibition of icons in the Žilinská galéria. Be sure not to miss a visit to Budatínsky zámok castle and the Stredoveký kostolík sv. Štefana Kráľa church, which you can find in the borough of Dolné Rudiny.

Párnica

Párnica is one of those picturesque villages in Slovakia that can rightfully claim the attribute "a village in the valley." It lies in the valley of the Orava River, surrounded by the peaks of the Malá Fatra mountains and the Oravská vrchovina highlands. And it is precisely this village located in the Dolný Kubín district that has prepared a real time-travel adventure for its visitors. An unconventional museum bearing the name Izba starých materí was opened here. In addition to a unique historical exhibition offering a return to the history of the village, this site can also become the backdrop for your photos or even the venue for your romantic and adventurous night in the museum.

Izba starých materí is the result of a small exhibition of historical artifacts that the village of Párnica organized on the occasion of its 590th anniversary. This exhibition charmed locals and visitors to such an extent that the village decided to establish its own municipal museum. The home of the permanent exhibition bearing the name Izba starých materí became a beautiful 150-year-old building, known among the residents as the old post office. It is built in a gentry (zemiansky) style, and all original decorative elements have been preserved. Ranks of local volunteers who value the heritage of their ancestors participated in its reconstruction.

The exhibition itself consists of 230 historical artifacts donated or loaned to the museum by citizens and natives of the village of Párnica. Here, you can visit a countryside room, a barn, and a separate room with period documents, including photographs illustrating life in the village throughout past years. A true gem of the building is a hand-painted chest from 1908. Among the most interesting artifacts is a military trunk with its original contents, a school chronicle, a savings book from Tatra banka from 1940, as well as a historical document from 1943, likely a predecessor of today's prenuptial agreement.

If you feel like traveling back in time and creating pleasant memories of your adventure in the form of photos, you can rent Izba starých materí for such an interesting photoshoot. Or would you prefer a romantic night at the museum? If you are brave enough, at Izba starých materí they will lend you typical attire, prepare a traditional meal for you, and let you soak up the atmosphere of times long past.
