Slnečné jazerá Senec

Slnečné jazerá Senec

Senec

Slnečné jazerá (Sun Lakes) or Senecké jazerá are among the most visited recreation centers in Slovakia. We can find them in the town of Senec. Every year, this location is visited by many families with children, young active holidaymakers, and seniors. The advantage is the low entrance fee, the option to purchase a seasonal pass, and a number of attractions in the area. Slnečné jazerá in Senec are also popular among fishermen, who can pursue their hobby here without any worries.

The lakes were artificially created in 1845, when five separate lakes were formed after gravel dredging. These later merged into one water area with an area of 120 hectares and a depth of up to 12 meters. Since 1919, the place began to be used as a natural swimming area. At that time, it was also known by the name Slovenské Tahiti (Slovak Tahiti).

Today, the resort is divided into three zones - northern, southern, and eastern. The northern side is especially suitable for families with children, as there is an Aquathermal Senec water park with water attractions and a playground for children. However, you will find various attractions for active holidaymakers in every part. You will appreciate the beach volleyball courts, football fields, and tennis courts.

Water sports are a matter of course here. You can practice Zumba and yoga, or explore the surroundings faster on scooters, which you can rent. During the summer, various musical events held directly on the premises are also very popular.

You don't have to go far for other points of interest. Visit Včelársky skanzen (Beekeeping Open-air Museum), Oáza sibírskeho tigra (Siberian Tiger Oasis) in Kostolná pri Dunaji, enjoy adventure flights from Kráľová pri Senci, or an adrenaline rafting trip on the Malý Dunaj river. A massage can also be a relaxation after a whole day in the resort. In addition to a classic one, Thai or a special Sothys massage is available. An interesting feature is the Japanese procedure of the so-called hanakusami ritual enriched with cherry blossoms.

The surroundings of the lakes are fully equipped with accommodation and catering units. In addition, a rich cultural and social program is prepared for tourists throughout the summer.

In the immediate vicinity of Senec, there are also other water bodies and lakes. These are, for example, Hlboké jazero, Kövecstó lake, Strieborné jazero, or Labutie jazero. So there is really no shortage of free-time activities in the summer.

Hrad Čeklís

Hrad Čeklís

Bernolákovo

The sad reality of today is that the once-glorious castles on our territory have turned into ruins. These are sought after primarily by avid hikers who crave stunning views and relaxation in nature. The ruin of castle Čeklís, located on the edge of the village of Bernolákovo, is one of them. Here, you can enjoy a view of the Podunajskú nížinu plain, Bratislavu, and Bratislavský castle.

The village of Bernolákovo is one of the relatively large villages located in the Senec district. During your visit, you will certainly notice its landmark: the Roman Catholic kostol sv. Štefana Kráľa church from 1355 and the adjacent kaplnku sv. Anny chapel from 1835. On the elevated terraced hilltop known as Várdomb (Hradný vrch), the hrad Čeklís castle is situated. In written records, it is also mentioned as Ceki, Chekluez, Cheklys, or Chekles.

Getting to this castle is manageable for everyone. The hike to this publicly accessible ruin is easy and will take you less than 10 minutes on foot. Simply park your car by the church and follow the dirt path alongside it directly to your destination. From a distance, you will see the silhouette of a tower emerging from the castle, although it is not part of the original structure.

The castle was likely built in the 13th century as a guard castle. The first reference to it dates back to 1209 as the old settlement of Šebeš, the royal cellar administrator. Many owners are mentioned in the castle’s history, including Charles Robert, Sigismund of Luxembourg, and the Eszterházy family. Unfortunately, the castle fell into ruin during Rákóczi's War of Independence. In 1720, a Baroque manor house was built near the castle. Today, only a fragment of a 1.9 m thick curtain wall remains. A sharp-eyed observer may also notice a vaulted discharge arch with a span of 5 m. The castle was reportedly protected by a moat as well. The round waterworks tower, which fits into the stylized scenery, might also help draw tourists here. This was built in 1905 on the remnants of a Baroque brick cistern.

Two legends are associated with the castle. The first tells the story of the beautiful Helena of Čeklís, who intoxicated the Turkish Grand Vizier with her wine and fled to svätojurský hrad castle before the Turkish invasion. She also wanted to trick the enemy by shoeing her horses backwards. As a result, the soldiers remained confused and, in their helplessness and rage, burned the castle down. The second legend, about the candles of Čeklís, might be told to you by the locals.

You can stay in the region for a longer period to explore all the points of interest beyond the traces of history. Golf lovers and sports enthusiasts can visit the largest golf resort with 55 greens, Black River Golf Resort Bratislava. It is located directly in this village, offering a great way to diversify your daily itinerary. Anglers choose the jazero Miloslavka lake as their place of relaxation. A walk through a landscape English park also has its charm; you can experience one at Kaštieli Eberhard in Malinovo. You can go for a swim on hot days at various water areas, with the closest option being Vajnorských jazerách.

You can plan your vacation or stay however you wish. The diverse range of accommodation around hrad Čeklís will certainly surprise you. Our accommodation providers will welcome you even at the last minute and provide you with a place to stay. You can choose from beautiful wooden cabins in Bernolákovo, which are optimal for larger groups, or a comfortable room in guesthouses in Bernolákovo. We will gladly provide you with all available information so you can book the best accommodation.

Včelársky skanzen

Včelársky skanzen

Kráľová pri Senci

Včelársky skanzen (also known as a museum or apiary clearing), situated in a beautiful English park in the village of Kráľová pri Senci, ranks among the largest beekeeping open-air museums in Central Europe. It is a significant collection of valuable information about the life and functioning of bees. You can even see with your own eyes an original thousand-year-old bee used in a film by Juraj Jakubiska.

This small bee kingdom, as the locals fondly call it, was founded in 1930. At that time, it originally served as a vocational school for future beekeepers. In 1932, the apiary clearing was handed over to the Regional Headquarters of Beekeeping Associations in Slovakia, and gradually, from 1961 onwards, the construction of the beekeeping open-air museum began. Its gates were opened to the public in 1975. Today, this unique beekeeping museum offers you displays of truly unique hive collections. It gathers unique materials about the development of beekeeping, how we as humanity can use it in various areas of our lives, and last but not least, about honey production.

During the tour, Včelárska paseka will also give you an answer to why a human could not survive without bees. You will learn that bees have been on Earth for more than 150 million years, and of course, the secret of their precious products. Whether it is liquid gold, as honey is popularly called, propolis, royal jelly, pollen, or last but not least, wax.

The museum features more than 300 exhibits, each of which can tell its own story. Some of the exhibited hives were even used as early as the 17th century. Located here is a large apiary building where honey extractors, comb foundation presses, and various tools and supplies of beekeepers mapping the development of beekeeping in Slovakia are exhibited.

You will leave Včelárska paseka truly enriched. With new information, experiences, inner gratitude toward the little bees and their tireless work, and last but not least, perhaps also with purchased genuine bee products. If you also want to participate in one of the events held here, we recommend booking accommodation in Senec and its surroundings so that you can also visit other attractions that the surroundings of the open-air museum and Senec offer.

Golf Borša

Golf Borša

Hrubá Borša

Golf is one of the most widespread sports of today. This is also evidenced by the increasing number of quality golf courses across all of Slovakia. You can find an exceptionally popular golf complex in the village of Hrubá Borša, in the Senec district. Golf Borša offers an exclusive 18-hole championship course suitable for golfers of all levels and a 9-hole public course. A covered driving range building is also available, allowing you to practice your swing in any weather. A particularly pleasant part of the golf complex is a restaurant with a summer terrace located directly on the lake. You can reward yourself for a successful game with a delicious specialty from the local menu.

The greatest attraction of the golf complex is undoubtedly its championship course. It comes from the workshop of architect Martin Munka, who designed it in cooperation with Dávid Záleský. The golfing environment here is created by the southern Slovak plain interspersed with white sand bunkers and water surfaces. The pleasant atmosphere of the course is enhanced by a floodplain forest where 8 holes are placed. Up to half of the fairways touch the water surface, including an island green. Landing zones with a width of 70–80 m were built following the model of American courses. The course consists of black, white, yellow, blue, and red tees. The area is therefore suitable for both professionals and less experienced players. Top-quality grass is a matter of course here.

If you do not feel ready for the course of golf champions yet, in Hrubá Borša they also have a smaller public course prepared for you, suitable for playing short distances. Here you can practice and test your knowledge of the rules of golf. Your game will be varied by a large lake and numerous sand bunkers. Weather will not ruin your visit to this golf paradise either. You can practice your drive in the covered driving range building, which features 17 illuminated bays with artificial mats.

The rich range of services at the golf complex also includes a professional golf shop. On a retail area of 320 m2, you will find everything you need for this sport, including complete beginner golf sets. If you want to relax comfortably and enjoy a good meal after a challenging match on the golf course, we definitely recommend visiting the local restaurant. The modern design of the interior and the summer terrace combined with quality international cuisine guarantee a perfect gourmet experience. The cuisine's domain is local ingredients, including meat from surrounding farms, fish from local ponds, and baked goods from nearby bakeries. Directly within the golf complex, they will also take care of your car. The services include EV charging and car washing.

You can enhance a day spent on the golf course in this region by visiting Oáza sibírskeho tigra, relaxing on the shores of Slnečné jazerá, or enjoying a canoeing trip down Malý Dunaj. We also highly recommend a water adventure at Aquathermal Senec water park and a trip to the unique Malkia Park in Orechová Potôň. To manage to enjoy all these great experiences, book accommodation near the Golf Borša complex. If the selection of accommodation in Hrubá Borša does not meet all your expectations, choose accommodation in Senec. The exceptionally popular Senec chalets will certainly not disappoint you.

Bratislava

Letisko Milana Rastislava Štefánika is the largest airport in Slovakia and is located in Bratislava. You will find it just 9 km from the city center, in the city district of Bratislava - Ružinov, near the village of Ivanka pri Dunaji. Annually, it handles approximately 2 million passengers upon arrival and departure, records over 27,000 aircraft movements, and processes more than 26,000 tons of cargo.

The beginnings of regular air transport in Bratislava are connected with Czechoslovak State Airlines. The first flight took place on October 29, 1923, on the Prague – Bratislava route, using an Aero A.14 aircraft. The plane was then piloted by the chief pilot of Czechoslovak State Airlines, Karel Brabenec, and the first passenger was Václav König, an editor for Lidové noviny. The flight lasted approximately 3 hours and landed at the airport in Vajnory. Even then, it was clear that the proximity of the Malé Karpaty mountain range would be a limiting factor, so construction of Letisko Milana Rastislava Štefánika began in 1947.

Regular operation was launched in 1951. Terminal A – General Aviation Terminal (GAT) – handles private, business, and VIP passengers, as well as ambulance flights. Servicing is provided by 29 check-in desks located on the ground floor of the departures terminal. Terminal B is intended for arrivals and departures outside the Schengen Area countries, and Terminal C serves arrivals for aircraft from Schengen Area countries.

From Bratislava, you can fly to various popular destinations such as Dubai, Hurghada, London, Rome, and others. The airport's runway system consists of two perpendicular takeoff and landing runways with a concrete-cement surface, allowing the landing and movement of all aircraft types, from the smallest to the largest, such as the Boeing 747.

In the arrivals hall on the ground floor, in addition to check-in desks, there are also grocery stores, snack stands, and a newsstand. Additional airport services include a currency exchange office and ATMs, while passengers with disabilities are entitled to free assistance services. Luggage carts and luggage wrapping and weighing services are a matter of course. Parking is provided in parking lots P1 and P2.

If you are returning from vacation late at night, relax and book a short-term stay in our capital city. You can find accommodation near Letisko Milana Rastislava Štefánika on our page accommodation Bratislava. Diversify your itinerary and head into Staré Mesto (Old Town). Taste great gastro specialties in local restaurants and cozy cafés. Do not forget to take a nice photo with Čumil and the statue of Schöne Náci. Miloslavka

Miloslavka

Miloslavov

Miloslavka is a freshwater lake with an area of 7 ha, located in the cadastral area of the village of Miloslavov, in the Senec district. The location is situated only 5 km from Bratislava. The lake was formed around 1970 when Danube gravel deposits were dredged. A new biotope began to develop in the lake after cleanup works between 1995 and 2000. Since 2002, this water body has been used for fishing purposes. The lake received the name Miloslavka only in 2005.

Fishing at Miloslavka is possible from April to October, always only with the manager's knowledge; a telephone booking and reservation of a specific spot according to the lake's fishing plan are recommended. Swimming is not permitted here. We can recommend visiting this location even to groups where not all members are focused on fishing. While the fishermen are pursuing their hobby, others can go swimming to their heart's content at Nové Košariská, which are located less than 5 km away. You can also drop by for a rafting trip on the Malý Dunaj or explore Bratislava, where you will truly find a bit of everything, starting with Bratislavský hrad, through the zoologická záhrada to hrad Devín.

When looking for accommodation near Miloslavka lake, you can start in Rovinka, where you will find private accommodation options. Another option is, for example, the Bratislava city boroughs of Podunajské Biskupice, Vrakuňa, and Ružinov. Bratislava also offers cheap hostels suitable for short stays, for example, even for a single night.

Did you know that on July 28, 1976, an airplane crashed at Zlaté piesky? It was a flight between Prague and Bratislava, and this huge tragedy claimed 76 lives. The regime of the time tried to cover up the accident. Very little visual material was preserved, as members of the Verejná bezpečnosť (Public Security) confiscated camera films from the vacationers who were at the lake at that time. This exceptionally tragic event is described very realistically in the book "Katastrofa letu 001 na Zlatých pieskoch" (The Disaster of Flight 001 at Zlaté piesky).

Summer at Zlaté piesky is carried on waves of fun and vibrant energy. This is thanks to various events, whether cultural or musical. Uprising Reggae Festival and MTV Disco TV are certainly among the most popular.

The location is situated in the Bratislava city district of Vrakuňa, in close proximity to the meander of Malý Dunaj. The entire area has undergone extensive renovation in recent years, transforming it into a modern leisure space covering several hectares. The forest park is characterized by its dense network of paved and natural trails leading beneath the canopies of maples, poplars, and willows. Visitors will find diverse zones ranging from active sports facilities to quiet nooks with benches. The highlight of the park is the cycling path running along the crest of the protective dyke, which forms part of a broader network of routes connecting the peripheral parts of Bratislava with surrounding villages. Thanks to its direct adjacency to the river, the forest park serves as an important habitat for waterfowl and small wildlife.

What can you find here?

The area features a large central children's playground with numerous play equipment items, a rope course, and a modern workout zone for outdoor fitness enthusiasts. You will also find designated barbecue and picnic areas, public restrooms, and an observation tower offering views of life on Malý Dunaj. For dog owners, there is a fenced dog park, while cyclists and inline skaters utilize the asphalt routes along the dyke.

Who is the location suitable for?

The forest park is tailored primarily for families with children and active sports enthusiasts seeking a safe space for running, cycling, or functional training. It is also frequented by residents of surrounding residential areas for dog walking and by seniors for peaceful strolls on easy, flat terrain. Jazero Nové Košariská

Jazero Nové Košariská

Rovinka

The Nové Košariská I. lake, also called Veľké Košariská or Veľké jazero Rovinka, is located near the villages of Rovinka and Dunajská Lužná, just 3 km from the Podunajské Biskupice district of Bratislava. Other lakes are also located in this area: Malé Košariská (Nové Košariská II.) and Nové Košariská (gravel pit lake). All three were formed as a result of gravel mining.

Veľké Košariská is 870 metres long and 500 metres wide, consisting of two parts separated by a small peninsula. One of the parts is shallower and surrounded by trees. The second part is deep, separated from the shallow area by a gravel drop-off, and is popular with scuba divers, as it reaches a depth of up to 40 metres very close to the shore. Several species of fish live in the lake; common ones include carp and pike, while catfish, zander, and eels are frequently observed, and freshwater jellyfish occur exceptionally in autumn.

Summer attracts vacationers to Košariská who like to refresh themselves in the crystal-clear water, which is nearly drinkable in quality, as proven by repeated official tests. Not all shores of the lake offer equally good access to the water; the best is from the gravel beach located in the eastern part. The more daring and free-spirited can visit the nudist beach. The remaining shores are steep, built up with holiday cottages in some places, and therefore often inaccessible. At the lake, food stands, toilets, and water sports equipment rentals, including pedal boats, are available for visitors. Sun loungers with umbrellas can also be rented here. The most common way to get to the lake is by car; riding a bicycle is not recommended, as there is no cycle path.

If you visit this area, make sure not to limit yourself to swimming and sunbathing by the water. Take a look at Bratislava as well, and discover the history and culture of the capital city. Art lovers are recommended to visit the Danubiana art museum at the Vodné dielo Gabčíkovo dam project. Adrenaline enthusiasts should head to the Areál Divoká voda complex in Čunovo.

Finding accommodation near Nové Košariská will certainly be easy, as it is just a stone's throw from Bratislava, which offers truly all types of accommodation. It depends on whether you prefer peace and quiet, choosing private accommodation on the outskirts of the city, or need all services close by, opting for an apartment in the centre. You can also choose based on your budget; hotels, guesthouses, and low-cost hostels are available.

Vodný mlyn Jelka

Vodný mlyn Jelka

Jelka

Vodný mlyn Jelka, also known as Némethov mlyn, is situated in the beautiful natural environment of the village of the same name, on the banks of the Malý Dunaj river. It is originally a ship mill that was converted into a stake mill in 1905. In Central Europe, it is considered a rarity as it has three floors. The mill in Jelka is an exhibition of the Vlastivedné múzeum v Galante.

The location in which it is situated is tailor-made for water mills. This is also confirmed by statistics from the past. In 1866, there were approximately 37 mills on the Malý Dunaj, 4 of which were in Jelka. By 1902, there were already 7 of them in Jelka, named after their owners. Némethov mlyn, which was the first in order from upstream, is currently open to the public. The first mention of it dates back to 1894.

In the past, mills served their economic function. However, the technical nature of the mills over time hindered progress in the milling process, and their location also impeded watercraft traffic. In 1885, the so-called Water Act was passed, on the basis of which all water mills that conflicted with police orders regarding navigation safety were abolished. This led to the aforementioned conversion of the mill into a stake mill. The reconstruction lasted from 1900, and the mill began milling again in 1906. Rye was mostly milled here, and according to the former owner's stories, farmers came to this mill from great distances to have their grain milled into flour or semolina. This continued until 1951, when the mill ceased operation.

The dominant feature of the mill is the wooden mill building. The technological equipment of the mill consists of three systems. The drive system is formed by a paddle water wheel with bottom drive. The transmission system consists of a main gear wheel and another pair of wheels, with a conical pinion transferring the rotational movement. The third system, the working or milling system, is formed by the entire technology, in which every detail fit together precisely to ensure the flawless operation of the mill.

You can reach the mill via a dirt field road heading from Jelka towards Dunajská Streda. When you arrive, be sure to visit the open-air museum located nearby as well. It will introduce you to the agricultural past of the village of Jelka. Naturally, refreshment options near the mill are also available. Anyone wishing to camp or anchor a boat is also in the right place.

Water mills belong to an interesting part of history, especially in the southern regions of our country. Book accommodation near Vodný mlyn v Jelke, for example on the page accommodation Jelka or accommodation in district Galanta, and set off on the footsteps of our ancestors. It was not so long ago that the mills were still operating regularly. Perhaps during your trip, you will run into locals who remember stories from this era passed down by their grandparents.

Budmerický kaštieľ

Budmerický kaštieľ

Budmerice

Come and enjoy the beauty of Budmerický kaštieľ manor house, which is located in the village of Budmerice and ranks among the landmarks of this village. This is not only thanks to its stunning appearance, but also due to the wonderful 19th-century English park. Every year, it is visited not only by locals, but also by foreign tourists.

This beautiful manor house was built by Count Ján Pálffy together with his wife. The count was a hunting enthusiast, so the manor house originally served mainly for these purposes. The manor house itself draws from several architectural styles. It was inspired mainly by the French Renaissance. Although the exterior resembles older artistic styles, the interior was adapted to the living requirements of the modern era of that time. An interesting feature is that it includes a dumbwaiter, central heating, and numerous staircases.

Locals experienced unique feelings even back then during a stroll through the English park. In its vicinity, Count Pálffy had a chapel built dedicated to Our Lady of Lourdes. A legend is tied to the manor house, in which the count fell in love with a French comtesse. He wanted to transform his two residences into the style of French châteaux and then marry her. By the time he succeeded, the young lady was reportedly already married.

After the count's death, the manor house turned into a center of social life, where his son Pavol organized various gatherings and hunts. After World War II, the manor house was looted, subsequently passed into the hands of the state, and is currently managed by the Ministry of Culture. During opening hours, you can view its permanent exhibition here. Can you imagine what it would be like to spend a night here? Unfortunately, that is unrealistic for now, but you can easily book accommodation near Kaštieľ Budmerice.

In Budmerice, you will admire this amazing building. Know that you can also expand your trip by visiting Hrad Červený Kameň castle. You can go horseback riding with your children at Margitin dvor. On hot days, you can cool off in the Suchá nad Parnou water reservoir. Keep in mind that it is great to book affordable accommodation in Budmerice in advance. It is popular because it offers a family atmosphere, great staff, and, above all, clean pool water. You can try out all swimming styles in one of the 3 outdoor pools. There is a choice of a large swimming pool, a medium relaxation pool, and a pool reserved for children. The water temperature is refreshing, reaching up to 25 °C during the hottest days.

An invaluable benefit for wheelchair users is an elevator that allows them to get directly into the water. This elevator can be used at any location around the pool. One of the interesting attractions for which many seek out this place is the water slide. A water mushroom is also present. You can enjoy summer relaxation directly from the grassy area where you can lay out your blanket. If you use the concrete area, we recommend renting a sunbed for a small fee.

Women are happy when they can watch over their children having fun at the playground equipped with swings and climbing frames while soaking up vitamin D. If you need a snack, you don't have to pack your things and leave the swimming pool right away. Inside the complex, you can satisfy your hunger with fast food at the snack bar. Showers and changing rooms are naturally available to visitors. The swimming pool also provides parking spaces for your cars.

Did this offer to spend a summer day at this swimming pool catch your interest? Then buy an entry ticket to this water world of fun for a few coins and enjoy your time here to the fullest. The swimming pool is open from mid-June to the end of August. If you happen to tire of swimming, feel free to go for a walk to the Rozhľadňa pod Kamzíkom observation tower. It will offer you views of the Malé Karpaty mountains and other attractions in the area. Water and water sports enthusiasts can visit the Plaváreň Pasienky indoor pool throughout the whole year. Dračí hrádok

Dračí hrádok

Borinka

You can find the ruins of Dračia hrádok, also known as Hadí hrad, in the Malé Karpaty mountain range, on the Úboč hill, approximately 2 km from the village of Borinka. Its origins date back to the 13th century, when the owners of the former royal Hrad Pajštún were the counts of Svätý Jur and Pezinok. The royal origin is also suggested by the similarity of the tower at Dračia hrádok to towers at other royal castles (Hrad Beckov, Plavecký hrad).

This slowly disappearing castle awaits you hidden above the valley of Stupavský potok, at an altitude of 370 m above sea level. There is not much information about what the small castle looked like in the past. An engraving that probably depicts its appearance can be found in Mestská galéria v Bratislave. However, experts differ in their opinions, and there are those who reject this assumption.

The area of the small castle consists of two elevated parts, a central prismatic tower, and the remains of the masonry foundation for the entrance bridge. By all accounts, the small castle perished in the 15th century during the Hussite raids into the territory of Západné Slovensko. Furthermore, it was built on geologically unstable bedrock, which was likely one of the main reasons why it was no longer restored after being damaged.

An asphalt road from the village of Borinka, which continues onto a forest path, will lead you to the remains of the castle. After roughly 800 m, you will come across a small area suitable for parking a car. The yellow-marked trail will take you directly to the ruins after a moderately challenging ascent. From the ruins of Dračia hrádok, you can continue your exploration further and reach the ruins of Pajštúnsky hrad.

If the idea of such a hike excites you, book accommodation near Dračia hrádok today. Záhorie is full of hiking as well as cultural and historical sights well worth seeing. It is entirely up to you which direction you take. An unforgettable experience will surely be a scenic boat cruise on the Dunaj or a visit to Bratislavský hrad. We believe you will enjoy your time in Záhorie and take home plenty of great experiences.

Budova Slovenského rozhlasu

Budova Slovenského rozhlasu

Bratislava

An inverted pyramid. This is also how the architectural gem of Bratislava, the Budova Slovenského rozhlasu building, can be described. Due to technological and structural complexity, its construction took as long as 16 years. The authors of this original building are a trio of architects: Štefan Svetko, Štefan Ďurkovič, and Barnabáš Kissling. The project originated back in 1967 at a time when socialist realism dominated Slovak art. Stop by and take a look at this 80-meter unique structure, which proudly holds the title ”Building of the Century in Slovakia". You can find the headquarters of Slovenský rozhlas in Bratislava's Staré Mesto.

The radio building features generous interior spaces, a top-tier concert hall, and well-equipped recording studios. Suspended in space on a steel structure with springs, the concert hall houses one of the largest organs in Central Europe, featuring 6,300 pipes. Outstanding acoustics offer visitors a unique musical experience. Office spaces are located around the entire perimeter of the building, behind which lies an atrium and an inner pyramid. Glass facades provide views of the surroundings and ensure plenty of daylight inside.

The first test broadcast from this building took place in 1984. Regular broadcasting of Slovenský rozhlas was launched on March 27, 1985. Since its completion, the building has undergone no major reconstruction, meaning most of the equipment is original. Throughout the entire building, you will find a single type of carpet, a single type of floor tiling, and a single type of railing. The massive pedestal housing the main recording spaces is thoroughly insulated against any noise. Located above it is the editorial and broadcasting section. Perhaps the most interesting part of the building is the terraced space between the 6th and 9th floors, which is spatially rich and interwoven with a number of unusual passages and footbridges.

Did you know that the Budova Slovenského rozhlasu was classified as a national cultural monument in 2017? With its values, it represents the architectural heritage of post-war modern architecture and is one of the crowning works of late modernism in Slovakia.

Hrad Červený kameň

Hrad Červený kameň

Častá

There are numerous castle ruins located in Slovakia. However, castles that still look today exactly as they did centuries ago are considerably fewer. If you want to catch a glimpse into the lives of the wealthiest people in the past and see how they lived and resided, you have a unique opportunity. Hrad Červený Kameň castle is extraordinarily well-preserved and still looks today exactly as it did centuries ago.

You will find the castle in the Malé Karpaty mountains. It lies near the town of Modra, known not only for its beautiful and rare ceramics, but also for traditional winemaking. You can reach it from the village of Častá or from the small village of Píla. Access to the castle is also suitable for the elderly and children. You can park or take a bus all the way up directly in front of the castle.

The history of the castle dates back to the first half of the 13th century. It was built by the Bohemian queen widow, Constance of Hungary. Later, the castle became a royal castle and formed an important defense line of the border zone. It stretched from Bratislava, through the entire Považie region, up to Žilina. The castle passed through the hands of several prominent families. It was ruled by Matúš Čák Trenčiansky, as well as the Zápoľský and Turzo families.

The new history of Hrad Červený Kameň began in 1535. The castle was acquired by one of the richest European families, the Fugger family. They embarked on a major reconstruction. They wanted to turn the castle into a defensive fortress to store goods. This merchant family began demolishing the castle while simultaneously constructing new parts. The present-day appearance of the castle originates precisely from this period. Four massive defensive bastions served to protect the fortress, and residential buildings were gradually added. The dominant feature is a huge residential wing. The castle turned into a modern and comfortable trading fortress with an excellent commercial location near Vienna.

The political situation was worsening, and the risk of Turkish and Tatar invasions was becoming increasingly acute. The Fugger family ultimately decided to sell the castle, and the Pálffy family became the buyers. They owned the castle from 1588 until 1945. A few years later, the castle was declared state cultural property. Today, you will find beautiful exhibitions of furniture, carpets, and traditional martial arts here. The largest carpet at the castle covers more than 44 square meters. The local library holds an incredible 14,312 books, and if you wanted to line them up in a single row, it would be almost 300 meters long. The castle is full of superlatives and former luxury, which you can see with your own eyes.

The Malé Karpaty are popular among tourists not only thanks to their beautiful nature. One of the greatest attractions is precisely Hrad Červený Kameň. You can find accommodation directly below the castle, in the village of Častá. There are numerous private accommodations and homestay options in family houses. If you are looking for the hustle and bustle of the town, choose accommodation in Modra. There are many hotels and guesthouses in the town, some even with their own wine cellar, which wine lovers in particular will appreciate. Come and discover the beauties of the Malé Karpaty as well.
