Izba starých materí

Izba starých materí

Párnica

Párnica is one of those picturesque villages in Slovakia that can rightfully claim the attribute "a village in the valley." It lies in the valley of the Orava River, surrounded by the peaks of the Malá Fatra mountains and the Oravská vrchovina highlands. And it is precisely this village located in the Dolný Kubín district that has prepared a real time-travel adventure for its visitors. An unconventional museum bearing the name Izba starých materí was opened here. In addition to a unique historical exhibition offering a return to the history of the village, this site can also become the backdrop for your photos or even the venue for your romantic and adventurous night in the museum.

Izba starých materí is the result of a small exhibition of historical artifacts that the village of Párnica organized on the occasion of its 590th anniversary. This exhibition charmed locals and visitors to such an extent that the village decided to establish its own municipal museum. The home of the permanent exhibition bearing the name Izba starých materí became a beautiful 150-year-old building, known among the residents as the old post office. It is built in a gentry (zemiansky) style, and all original decorative elements have been preserved. Ranks of local volunteers who value the heritage of their ancestors participated in its reconstruction.

The exhibition itself consists of 230 historical artifacts donated or loaned to the museum by citizens and natives of the village of Párnica. Here, you can visit a countryside room, a barn, and a separate room with period documents, including photographs illustrating life in the village throughout past years. A true gem of the building is a hand-painted chest from 1908. Among the most interesting artifacts is a military trunk with its original contents, a school chronicle, a savings book from Tatra banka from 1940, as well as a historical document from 1943, likely a predecessor of today's prenuptial agreement.

If you feel like traveling back in time and creating pleasant memories of your adventure in the form of photos, you can rent Izba starých materí for such an interesting photoshoot. Or would you prefer a romantic night at the museum? If you are brave enough, at Izba starých materí they will lend you typical attire, prepare a traditional meal for you, and let you soak up the atmosphere of times long past.

Galéria Ľudovíta Fullu

Galéria Ľudovíta Fullu

Ružomberok

Galéria Ľudovíta Fullu, which is part of the Slovak National Gallery network, is located in the district town of Ružomberok, on D. Makovického Street, right next to the Liptovské múzeum. Its permanent exhibition is dedicated to the local native Ľudovít Fulla, who is considered the founder of modern painting in Slovakia. In addition to the exhibition of paintings, the gallery also includes Fulla's tomb decorated with mosaics, the designs of which were made by the artist himself.

The exhibition of Fulla's paintings consists of a complete collection of 548 works. Among all of them, we can mention the painting Pastierik, which is simultaneously the artist's first work. In addition to paintings, the gallery also exhibits examples of the master's drawings, graphics, and illustrations. Visitors can also access the artist's own texts, with which he commented on his work. To complete the perfect illustration of the master's work, the exhibition also includes Fulla's studio, his study, and part of the living room. In addition to the permanent exhibition, various short-term and occasional exhibitions are naturally held at the Galéria Ľudovíta Fullu. Interestingly, all the works were donated to the state by the artist Ľudovít Fulla himself. Part of the deed of gift between him and the state was an agreement that in return the state would build a gallery with a studio and an apartment for him. Ľudovít Fulla spent the last years of his life in this apartment.

However, exhibitions and displays are not the only attraction of this Liptov gallery. Many visitors are appealed by the rich offer of a regular program tailored to art lovers both young and old. You can create your own work of art in the Ateliér, where various art techniques and procedures are prepared for visitors. Motifs following the ongoing exhibition and permanent exhibition are offered as inspiration. For families with children, the gallery offers the permanent program Famíliaart. It focuses on developing children's creativity through various art techniques. The program is aimed at children aged 2 to 7. The opportunity for creative leisure time is also offered by creative workshops for adults and older children called Ručne stručne or the creative journalistic workshop Fullakuk. Music and film lovers will also find something to their liking at regularly held concerts called Hudba u Fullu or at Kino u Fullu, which screens alternative film documentaries once a month.

If you love fine art, be sure to enrich your holiday in Liptov with a visit to the Galéria Ľudovíta Fullu. In winter, you can stop here on your way back from fantastic skiing in Ski Park Ružomberok Malinô Brdo, while on hot summer days you can combine your visit to the gallery with, for example, swimming in the popular Vodný park Bešeňová located just a few kilometers from Ružomberok. After a day full of artistic and adventurous experiences, you will surely be pleased by the wide range of accommodation near the Galéria Ľudovíta Fullu. You can find accommodation in Ružomberok in a pleasant apartment or guest house, or you can use stylish cottages and chalets in the immediate vicinity.
