Tricklandia

Tricklandia

Vysoké Tatry mesto

Our impressive high mountains, the Vysoké Tatry, have long attracted visitors not only with their rocky peaks and unique natural scenery. This tourist region offers a wide spectrum of interesting attractions and unique opportunities for original experiences. Without a doubt, one such place is Tricklandia, the most remarkable gallery of trick-art and optical illusions in Slovakia. It is located in Starý Smokovec, in the oldest settlement of the town of Vysoké Tatry. In this enchanting place, you will experience a journey through Slovakia through tricks and illusions. You will get to know the themes of Slovak folk tales and fairy tales, as well as distinct villages and picturesque castles of Slovakia, through a interplay between the artist and your senses. Do not forget your mobile phone or camera, and remember: nothing is as it seems at first glance.

The Tricklandia gallery covers an area of 500 m². The entire facility is wheelchair accessible, making it appealing not only to lovers of unusual entertainment, but also to families with children and active seniors. Visitors can expect 24 unique attractions including 15 trick-art paintings, augmented reality, anti-gravity rooms, as well as the most beautiful mirror maze in Central Europe. One of the newest highlights of Tricklandia is the COMICS exhibition, which features an exhibition of illustrations by the artist Miroslav Matuščinec. These illustrations are interesting because they come to life using an app. As a visitor, you will thus find yourself in the role of a superhero, brush a hippo's teeth, or hang on a clothesline along with freshly washed laundry.

Are you asking what trick-art actually is? It is the art of depicting two-dimensional drawings in a way that evokes a three-dimensional reality. Engage all your senses and let yourself be carried away by artwork presenting journeys through unique Slovak culture. In Tricklandia, these works will act on your brain to create original sensory illusions. Believe nothing and try to reveal as many tricks as possible. We wish you great fun.

Tricklandia was built in the Tatras over precisely one year, and its founders worked a total of 9,600 hours during that time. A total of 6 m³ of wood and 9,600 screws were used for construction. For the unique artwork, 2,000 spray cans were used, and there are an incredible 200 m² of mirrors in the mirror kingdom.

If you have only been considering a vacation in the Tatras until now, you should definitely start packing your bags now. In addition to mountain hiking, excellent skiing, and cable car trips, you will now experience something truly unbelievable here. The Tricklandia gallery will deceive your senses and prepare a unique adventure for you. You can combine your visit with a hike to Slavkovský štít peak or to Vodopády Studeného potoka waterfalls. Or would you rather take the Pozemná lanovka na Hrebienok to Hrebienok? In Starý Smokovec, there are truly plenty of opportunities. Just as there are plenty of accommodation options near Tricklandia. Kúpele Nový Smokovec

Kúpele Nový Smokovec

Vysoké Tatry mesto

Kúpele v Novom Smokovci belong to the most famous climatic spas in Slovakia. Thanks to their high-altitude location in the center of Tatranský národný park (Tatra National Park), at an altitude of 1,010 m above sea level under Slavkovský štít, people with respiratory problems or asthma frequently choose them for their clean mountain air. Indeed, the Tatra climatic conditions are characterized by extraordinary air purity (above the dust and smoke zone) infused with the aroma of natural essential oils, reduced atmospheric pressure, high values of sunshine and ultraviolet radiation, and average humidity. The Kúpeľné zariadenie Nový Smokovec spa facility helps patients diagnosed with non-tuberculous respiratory diseases, metabolic and endocrine disorders, mental illnesses, and occupational diseases.

The historical development of Kúpele Nový Smokovec is both interesting and inspiring. Nový Smokovec was founded by Mikuláš Szontagh, a graduate of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Vienna. He worked as a spa physician in Starý Smokovec, but was not enthusiastic about the conditions that prevailed there. Whenever possible, during the summer seasons he worked in seaside and mountain spa houses in Italy, France, Germany, Switzerland, and the Balkans. However, he was most enchanted by the spas in Montana, Arosa, Opatija, Merano, and Davos, which is when he began to dream his dream of owning his own institute. In 1875, it began to come true as the construction of Nový Smokovec commenced. In 1876, the oldest sanatorium was already opened as the first specialized tuberculosis treatment facility in the Kingdom of Hungary.

Great credit for the construction goes to the land association members from Veľký Slavkov, who leased the land to him for a symbolic price, donated the wood needed for building the sanatorium, and over time sold him additional land at favorable prices. Upon starting the excavation work in 1874, the discovery of a silver coin from the times of Marcus Aurelius and later a metallurgical workshop site came as a surprise. After World War II, the constructed sanatorium became a state spa, operating as a joint-stock company since 1995. Gradually, hotels were renovated, a swimming pool was added, and individual medical procedures were modernized. In 2006, the complex expanded to include a sports hall and a congress center, since 2007 a wellness center, and over time also a relaxation zone with games. A restaurant and three hotels are part of the spa complex. Currently, they operate at a high standard, providing top-quality care to their clients.

Thanks to the high-mountain environment of the spa, the basic treatment method for patients is climatotherapy and active movement in the clean mountain air. The surroundings of Vysoké Tatry are ideal for leisurely walks or easy hikes. In addition, patients are prescribed respiratory rehabilitation and therapeutic physical training (LTV), various inhalations, as well as balneological and physiatric procedures. Everything is complemented by a balanced, rational diet, tailored with various diets and intolerances if necessary.

Kúpele Nový Smokovec use time-tested and proven medical procedures that bring real results to patients: oxygen therapy, Tatra nasal douche, biolamp, shortwave diathermy, Solux, peat packs, various types of massages, magnetotherapy, ultrasound, 4-chamber hydrogalvanic bath, whirlpool, bubble and dry carbon dioxide baths, Scottish showers, Nordic walking, targeted physical education, inhalation, and diadynamic currents. You can try all of this right in Nový Smokovec. A team of qualified, certified doctors, nurses, rehabilitation specialists, and of course, other spa staff will take good care of you.

More and more often, people visit the spa to regenerate their bodies and rest from stress. Therefore, a stay in Nový Smokovec is available both for clients through health insurance and for self-payers. More than 100 offered wellness attractions and procedures taken directly in the heart of nature guarantee perfect relaxation for everyone. The spa also offers stays for corporate clients, whether in the form of a reconditioning stay or an event-organized trip. Indeed, the complex features 3 congress halls for up to 330 people, naturally provided with state-of-the-art equipment. It is not even unusual to have a wedding organized at Kúpele Nový Smokovec. The elegant setting of the hall with French windows, breathtaking Tatra peaks in the background, provided music, decorations, and food, plus a church for a religious ceremony right next to the spa. Sounds almost perfect, don't you think?

You should certainly enhance your stay at Kúpele v Novom Smokovci with trips to discover and try the attractions of Vysoké Tatry. In the vicinity of the Smokovec settlements, you can spend a great time in Tricklandia, taking a trip to Tatranský ľadový dóm Hrebienok, riding the funicular up to Hrebienok, or walking to one of the waterfalls, such as Obrovský vodopád or Dlhý vodopád. Kúpele Horný Smokovec

Kúpele Horný Smokovec

Vysoké Tatry mesto

Located at an altitude of 960 m a.s.l., Kúpele Horný Smokovec is the highest-altitude spa for children and adolescents. They specialize in the treatment of children aged 3 to 18. They are the only Tatra spa focused on the treatment of non-specific respiratory diseases. They take advantage of the presence of high-quality mountain air along with a climate suitable for active outdoor movement. Just looking at the spa, children will feel like they are on vacation rather than in treatment. Modern buildings, numerous playgrounds, greenery all around, and in the background, the panorama of the majestic Tatra peaks.

The Opatrný couple put the sanatorium into operation in 1928. Even for its time, it was modernly and above-standardly equipped, focusing on the treatment of children with tuberculosis. In 1948, the sanatorium was nationalized and operated under the name Detská ozdravovňa Horný Smokovec. In 1971, its focus changed, and children with upper respiratory tract diseases began receiving treatment here. The healing home became part of the state spa system, first Czechoslovak, later Slovak. In 1997, it returned to the hands of the granddaughters of the original owners, who continued the work of their grandparents and preserved the tradition of the sanatorium for children with respiratory diseases.

Children with severely weakened immunity often arrive at Kúpele v Hornom Smokovci. The foundation of the treatment is climatotherapy, which, together with special rehabilitation, helps strengthen immunity and thus improve the quality of life. Climatotherapy treatment is further supplemented by inhalations, electrotherapy (diathermy), light therapy (solux and bioptron), mountain sun (UV therapy), paraffin, stays in saunas (infrared, Finnish, steam, and salt saunas) and a pool, massages, relaxation in a rest room, and physical education.

The spa strives not to evoke a feeling in children that they are in medical treatment. They pay close attention to home-quality food, taking into account the special needs of individual patients. They provide sports, cultural, and leisure programs for children, so they never get bored here. The outdoor playground features slides, climbing frames, and a sandbox. Sitting in a relaxation gazebo or by the garden fireplace also comes in handy. Football, volleyball, and basketball courts are available, and a tennis court is a matter of course. The complex features its own fitness center and saunas.

A primary school, a kindergarten, and an after-school children's club are established at the spa, which children regularly attend during the morning hours. Kúpele Horný Smokovec boasts the oldest school attached to a medical facility in the Slovak Republic, providing primary and lower secondary education. Teachers follow the curriculum that the child brings from their own school. If they do not bring one, they follow their own curriculum. In addition to traditional knowledge, education also brings many supplementary activities. Excursions are organized to explore the Vysoké Tatry region, as well as visits to various galleries and museums. The program also includes puppet shows, playing musical instruments, sports, art, or singing competitions, and discussions on diverse topics. Teachers try to divert the children's thoughts away from their illness. They want to teach them to live with it, smile, maintain their enthusiasm, and jump fully into life. They want every child to get a chance to succeed. And very often, this exact mindset greatly assists the entire healing process.

A matter of course during treatment is also filling the leisure time of children who are on a stay without parent accompaniment. Whenever possible, children are outside in the fresh air. This demonstrably helps children and lifts their overall positive mood. They do not miss the TV or computer screen at all. They acquire healthier life habits that will have undeniable long-term effects.

The surroundings of Horný Smokovec offer many possibilities for trips and attractions that you can enjoy together with your children. Surrounding areas of the Vysoké Tatry also offer plenty of fun. Visit museums, galleries, and diverse hiking options are available as well. You will experience fun on the Bobová dráha v Tatranskej Lomnici bobsleigh track. In the town, we also recommend visiting Botanická záhrada Tatranská Lomnica, Múzeum Tatranského národného parku, Indoor Fun Park Kamzíkovo, or Galéria Dobrá hračka. You will ride the funicular up to Hrebienok, where you can view the Tatranský ľadový dóm Hrebienok. Take a trip to Svištej krajinke or to one of the waterfalls in the Vysoké Tatry. The possibilities are almost endless.

Children at the spa gain friendships for life. In a playful way and in a beautiful environment, they complete treatment and will return home to you healthier, more positive, and more resilient. The entire staff of the spa, whether professional medical or pedagogical, is highly qualified, and your child will be excellently cared for. Naturally, parents can decide to undergo the treatment together with their child. Often, the whole family even comes and spends all their time outside medical procedures on trips in the area. If you long for a similar family experience, you will certainly find suitable accommodation near Kúpele Horný Smokovec on our portal. Take a look at the offer on the page ubytovanie Horný Smokovec and choose the right one!

Dolný Smokovec - Pod lesom

Dolný Smokovec - Pod lesom

Vysoké Tatry mesto

The Vysoké Tatry are famous for high-quality services, groomed slopes, and ski resorts for even the most demanding skiers. If you are looking for first-class skiing, you will certainly find exactly what you long for beneath the peaks of our highest mountains. But if you are attracted even a little bit by skiing in a quiet resort where the slope will belong almost exclusively to you, we have one place you must visit.

Starý Smokovec is one of the most famous Tatra settlements. The famous funicular railway to Hrebienok, a popular destination for tourists in both summer and winter, also leads from here. Just a few kilometers south lies its brother, Dolný Smokovec. It became famous mainly for treating respiratory diseases in the local children's sanatorium. Beautiful surroundings and fresh air are the main prerequisites not only for treatment, but also for perfect skiing.

A small and inconspicuous ski resort is situated in the part of Dolný Smokovec with the poetic name Pod lesom. Its name is Greguskaski. It lies above the village of Nová Lesná, where you will find plenty of affordable accommodation options in private rentals.

The resort offers only one slope, but given its focus on complete beginners, even that is sufficient. It is of blue difficulty, the lowest category. Its length is 400 meters and it offers an elevation gain of exactly 50 meters. The entire resort sits at an altitude of 874 – 924 meters above sea level. Two ski lifts will take care of your comfort, helping you forget about long queues.

Despite the resort being really small, it offers an artificial snowmaking system. You won't have to worry about a lack of snow. There is also a ski school here. The slope is particularly suitable for those of you stepping onto skis for the very first time. An undeniable asset of this ski resort is the price of ski passes. If you are a beginner skier, it would be wasteful to pay dozens of euros for a skipass in a larger resort when you would spend the whole day learning on a single slope anyway.

In the area, you will find cross-country trails for enthusiasts of the white track. The environment of the Vysoké Tatry is generally extremely attractive and offers dozens, if not hundreds, of leisure opportunities. Whether it is a trip to the aforementioned Hrebienok, evening sledding, or a cable car ride to the peak of Lomnický štít. Alternatively, if you still haven't had enough of skiing, visit Starý Smokovec, Tatranská Lomnica, or Štrbské Pleso.

Finding accommodation near the slope in Dolný Smokovec is not a problem. Just a few dozen meters away are various private accommodations, whether in the Pod lesom area itself or in nearby Nová Lesná. The latter offers attractively priced accommodation in guesthouses, apartments, private rentals, and chalets. Beginner skiers can boldly head to the Vysoké Tatry as well. You just need to know where to go.

Hrebienok

Hrebienok

Vysoké Tatry mesto

The Vysoké Tatry are a synonym for good skiing and a guarantee of plenty of snow. If you cannot imagine winter without biting frosts and endless snow fun, visit Hrebienok.

It is located above well-known Starý Smokovec, the administrative center of the Vysoké Tatry. A comfortable road leads from Starý Smokovec straight to Hrebienok, the paradise of winter fun. You can reach the most famous Tatra settlement by car or bus. Your first steps will lead to a beautiful wooden church building, which is the pride and a representative of traditional Tatra architecture.

It is right here that you will find the station for the cable car to Hrebienok. It is exceptional because it is a funicular. Modern and fast, it replaced its older predecessor just a few years ago. Another alternative is a hiking trail or an asphalt road leading all the way up to Hrebienok, to an altitude of almost 1,300 meters above sea level.

Hrebienok is a tourist hub not only in winter, but also in summer. It serves as a starting point for hikes along the Tatranská magistrála trail, into Veľká studená dolina or Malá studená dolina. Almost directly at Hrebienok, you will find the well-known Bilíkova chata, and just a short distance further, Rainerova chata, Zamkovského chata, or Vodopády Studeného potoka. Pure natural beauty. And as if that were not enough, the majestic Slavkovský štít, which in the distant past was considered the highest Tatra peak, will tower directly above your head.

Even if hiking boots are not your favorite footwear, you won't be bored at Hrebienok either. Here you will find snowtubing, a ride down a snow trough on an inflatable tube. Many find riding mountain scooters or the new addition, mountain carts, attractive. In summer, you can enjoy the ride all the way down to Starý Smokovec. In winter, the road serves as a toboggan track. You can rent a sled, take the funicular up, and thus avoid the grueling pull up the hill. The toboggan track is equipped with artificial lighting, and night sledding is a unique experience you should definitely treat yourself to.

Skiing and snowboarding enthusiasts will also find good conditions prepared here, although operations at Hrebienok are always uncertain. The more demanding slope from Hrebienok at the foot of Slavkovský štít opens only very sporadically. The slope leading down to Starý Smokovec occasionally struggles with a lack of snow. You will certainly have fun at Hrebienok, but if you love skiing, try checking the snow conditions and plan a backup strategy for a nearby ski resort in the area.

You can stay directly at the hotel on Hrebienok. Every morning, you will wake up to a view of the entire Podtatranská kotlina basin, with Slavkovský štít above your head and Lomnický štít off to the side. Alternatively, choose accommodation in Starý Smokovec, which offers a variety of luxury hotels, beautiful guesthouses, as well as affordable private rentals. A vacation in the Tatras thus doesn't have to be just for snobs, but for everyone.

Slnečné hodiny Nová Lesná

Slnečné hodiny Nová Lesná

Nová Lesná

Just by reading the name of the attraction, you will figure out how to find your way around this interesting sight. Slnečné hodiny Nová Lesná (Sundial Nová Lesná) is located directly in the sub-Tatra village of Nová Lesná. This scientific device designed for measuring time will catch your attention as an attraction under the Tatras mainly for children, but adults will marvel at it as well.

Sundials as such work on the principle of incident light. Therefore, if you want to experience firsthand how this ancient device works, plan a trip to see it during beautiful sunny days. The space of the structure as such consists of three elements: the sundial, the panoramic orientation object, and meditation stools. If it were not for the idea of creating the sundial by Mr. Nosek and Ms. Šimoníková, this project would not have been successfully realized.

Time is a relative quantity. Here, you can spend a long time reflecting on yourself or watching the movement of the Sun in the sky by the sundial. The uniqueness of this work lies in the fact that the clock as such is multiple. What does that mean? You can look at the southern clock, western clock, or noon clock. Simply put, you can say that the western clock shows time only in the afternoon, the noon clock shows true local time in the settlement of Malý Smokovec, and the southern one shows daylight saving time (in Arabic numerals) as well as the time for the rest of the year (in Roman numerals).

At the panoramic orientation object, observing the surroundings is particularly interesting. On the installed spatial structure, you will learn information regarding the panorama of the Vysoké Tatry. How wonderful it is to admire individual peaks in the distance, their altitude, and imagine conquering them. Excellent for every tourist.

The meditation stools are part of the area in front of the southern dial of the sundial. There are precisely 12 wooden stools intended for sitting, observing the surroundings, and meditating. They symbolically correspond to the number of hours in a day as well as the number of months in a year.

If you decide to visit this picturesque village, definitely do not miss its attraction. On a sunny day, you will recharge your energy here and learn the exact time. From the sundial, you can also plan a trip to nearby attractions in the area. It will be best to wake up in the morning in accommodation near Slnečné hodiny Nová Lesná, or in accommodation in Nová Lesná, but do not snub accommodation in the Tatra settlements either. From an apartment in Starý Smokovec, you can take a look into Tricklandia, and from private accommodation in Dolný Smokovec, winter sports at the Pod lesom ski resort will come in handy. It is up to you how you decide to spend your time.

Velické pleso

Velické pleso

Vysoké Tatry mesto

Velické pleso is a sparkling gem and at the same time the largest tarn in Velická dolina valley in the Vysoké Tatry mountains. The lake, covering an area of 2.241 ha with a depth of 4.5 m, is situated at an altitude of 1,663 m a.s.l., near the mountain hotel Sliezsky dom. Velické pleso was formed after the retreat of a glacier, leaving a smaller moraine above it. The lake was also visited by Pope John Paul II, who prayed on July 3, 1995, in a gazebo built specially on its shore.

It is possible to set off on a hike to Velické pleso from several starting points: Tatranská Polianka, Starý Smokovec, Popradské pleso, or Tatranské Zruby. Although the route to the lake is classified as moderately demanding, the reward is gorgeous nature. For those who do not like walking but prefer pedaling a bicycle, it is good news that Velické pleso is the highest point accessible by bike in the Tatras.

From Sliezsky dom, a green hiking trail leads past the tarn to Poľský hrebeň. From June to October, a popular tourist destination is also the 15 m high Velický vodopád waterfall. Situated in the valley above the tarn are also Kvetnicové pliesko, Vyšné Velické plieska, and Dlhé pleso. If you are planning to explore Velická dolina, look for accommodation around one of the starting points. A pleasant stay will be provided by cottages in Tatranská Polianka or apartments in Tatranské Zruby. Vysoké Tatry also offer a diverse selection of hotels and guesthouses. Just choose according to whether you are a family with young children or seniors, or whether you prefer comfort or lower accommodation prices.

Obrovský vodopád

Obrovský vodopád

Vysoké Tatry mesto

With its height of 20 m, Obrovský vodopád ranks among the larger waterfalls of the Vysoké Tatry, although its massive appearance and the powerful roar of its flow contribute to this more than its height. If you want to see it, you must visit Malá Studená dolina. It is located near the well-known Zamkovského chata, at an altitude of 1,330 m above sea level.

It was created by Studený potok in the ravine of Malý Studený potok. It belongs to the group of Vodopády Studeného potoka, but since it is located somewhat further from the others and has a unique appearance and size, it is often viewed separately.

You can view the other cascades and waterfalls of Studený potok if you follow the red hiking trail from Hrebienok, past Bilíkova chata all the way to Rainerova chata. All the waterfalls in this group are among the gems of our mountains. Some tourists even say they feel a fairy-tale atmosphere beside them.

You can reach Obrovský vodopád via several hiking trails. Take the route from Tatranská Lesná, Starý Smokovec, Tatranská Lomnica, or from Hrebienok. When you continue from the waterfall along the red hiking trail, you will reach the famous Téryho chata. But that is not the only hiking destination. You will also reach Zamkovského chata, Zbojnícka chata, Skalnaté pleso, or Päť spišských plies. This circuit is definitely worth doing to let yourself be awed by the magnificent Tatra nature.

Have you also decided to take a photo from the bridge directly opposite Obrovský vodopád? To feel the pleasant and much-sought-after cooling in the sweltering summer? To be in harmony with nature and your own thoughts for a moment? In that case, you are in the right place in the Tatras. We recommend booking accommodation near one of the starting points for the routes to Obrovský vodopád and enjoying a great experience hiking to it.

Rysy

Rysy

Vysoké Tatry mesto

Rysy, consisting of three peaks, are among the most popular hiking destinations for tourists in Slovakia. They form the main ridge of the Vysoké Tatry and are located on the border of the Slovak and Polish republic. The starting point is the village of Štrbské Pleso.

This is a more demanding ascent, suitable rather for moderately advanced or experienced hikers. The hike begins at an altitude of 1,347 m a. s. l. by the lake Štrbské pleso and ends at an altitude of 2,499 m a. s. l. The significant elevation gain and the length of the hike itself (approx. 8 hours round trip) are demanding in terms of time and physical condition, but the reward is wonderful views from the summit. You will even enjoy as many as 3 peaksfirst the southeastern and main one, and finally through steep serpentines the viewpoint peak of Rysov.

During the nearly 10 km route, you will encounter other interesting places and views. First, you will have the opportunity to compare Štrbské and Popradské pleso. Further on, the trail stretches through Mengusovskou dolinou, above Veľké Žabie pleso. You will experience adrenaline when overcoming a traverse with the help of chains. Precisely because of this passage, ascending Rysy is not recommended during black ice or summer snow, as the section is extremely dangerous. After a demanding journey, you will appreciate rest and refreshment at Chate pod Rysmi, the highest-situated mountain chalet. From there, the final steep section awaits you all the way up to Rysy itself.

Rysy were first conquered in 1840 by the visitor Eduard Blasy, and today around 25,000 tourists complete this route annually. One must prepare appropriately for the ascent and count on a full day. Therefore, it is best to find accommodation in the Vysoké Tatry. You can find inspiration for accommodation near Rysov in a chalet, apartment, guesthouse, or hotel on our website.

Gerlachovský štít

Gerlachovský štít

Vysoké Tatry mesto

Gerlachovský štít is among the greatest landmarks of the High Tatras. This is not only due to its altitude of 2,655 m a.s.l., which makes it the highest peak in Slovakia, but also thanks to its unmistakable appearance, untouched nature, and hiking possibilities. However, if you also want to be among the lucky ones who have conquered this majestic peak, keep in mind that ascent is only possible accompanied by a mountain guide.

In the past, back in the 18th century, Kriváň, another inimitable Tatra giant, was determined as the highest peak based on elevation measurements. In the 19th century, however, Ľudovít Greiner determined Gerlachovský štít to be the highest peak of the High Tatras, and it holds its primacy to this day. It is part of the peaks that form the famous Gerlachovský kotol basin. The ascent by Ján Still and his companions in 1834 is considered the first known ascent of Gerlach. The first reliably documented ascent was completed by Viennese military mappers in 1868.

The most popular ascent route leads from Sliezsky dom via Velická próba, with a descent via Batizovská próba. However, Martinova cesta is considered by hikers to be the most attractive route, starting either from Litvorové sedlo or Poľské hrebeň and subsequently by abseiling from Velický štít. No matter how you reach the summit, your reward will be breathtaking views of almost all surrounding mountain ranges and Tatra peaks. Malá Fatra and Veľká Fatra, Nízke Tatry, Kozie chrbty, Slovenský raj, and many others will be in the palm of your hand. Under favorable weather conditions, you will even see Kékes in Hungary, Lysá hora in the Moravian-Silesian Beskids in neighboring Czechia, as well as many Polish and Ukrainian peaks.

Do you know the famous observatories at Skalnaté pleso and Lomnický štít? Originally, it was considered that one of them would be located right on Gerlach, after its construction on Slavkovský štít was rejected. And that is just one of the interesting facts, Gerlachovský štít hides many more. However, the mountain guides, for whom this Tatra majesty has become a second home, will tell you the most about them.

A hike to Gerlach needs to be properly planned. We suggest starting by finding suitable accommodation near Gerlachovský štít, which you can find right on our website. The ascent of Gerlachovský štít is a once-in-a-lifetime experience; we wish you plenty of strength and a safe return home in good health.

Kúpele Vyšné Hágy

Kúpele Vyšné Hágy

Vysoké Tatry mesto

Kúpele Vyšné Hágy is the most famous spa for the treatment of tuberculosis and respiratory diseases. They are located in the Vysoké Tatry (High Tatras) in the settlement of the same name, Vyšné Hágy, between Starý Smokovec and Štrbské Pleso. Thanks to the high-mountain air, the treatment of pulmonary diseases is very successful right here in the National Institute for Tuberculosis and Respiratory Diseases.

The spa in Vyšné Hágy was built by the Central Social Insurance Fund. In 1935, a construction project for a large sanatorium began due to an increased number of tuberculosis cases. The spa opened its doors to its first patients in June 1941. At that time, this treatment institute was one of the largest in Central Europe. To this day, it maintains the quality of its treatment methods and procedures.

The sanatorium has 8 floors and a length of 270 meters. An interesting fact is that it lies at an altitude of 1,130 m a.s.l. In addition, it has nearly 2,000 rooms and around 500 beds for patients. Since its inception, Kúpele Vyšné Hágy has specialized in pulmonary and extrapulmonary tuberculosis. In 1948, MUDr. Karol Šiška performed the first lung resection in Slovakia here. In 1958, as many as 286 of these operations were performed.

Throughout the entire period from its establishment to the present day, the treatment spa has maintained highly qualified experts as well as modern instrumentation and equipment. In 1988, the Center for Thoracic Surgery was established here. The institute diagnoses and treats various types of respiratory diseases, including lung tumors and functional lung examinations. It has also expanded its operations into other medical fields: urology and gynecology, ophthalmology, immuno-allergology, and gastroenterology.

Vyšné Hágy is known not only as a spa town. Many might know that here they can find the highest-located primary school in Slovakia. There is an old, no longer used railway line and a tunnel through which the spa was once supplied not only with food, but also with coal for heating. Life in the village is more or less subordinate to the local spa, and most residents work directly in its services. However, Vyšné Hágy is not the only spa in the Vysoké Tatry. Nearby are others, such as Kúpele Nový Smokovec or Kúpele Horný Smokovec.

The Vysoké Tatry mountains are sought after throughout the year not only by spa guests, but also by tourists. In Vyšné Hágy, we can also find hiking trail signs. A steep trail leads from here to the Tatranská magistrála trunk route and to Batizovské pleso tarn. Spa patients take advantage of walks through the surrounding Tatra villages such as Štôla, Starý Smokovec, or Nová Polianka.

The Tatras are simply made for spa recreation not only because of the healthy fresh air, but also because of the wealth of leisure activities. In winter or summer, you can enjoy a cable car trip, for example, to Skalnaté Pleso, Lomnický štít, or Solisko. A trip on the Tatranská elektrická železnica (Tatra Electric Railway) to Štrbské pleso, or by cog railway from Tatranská Štrba, is also popular.

If you head here with children, take them to the Galéria Dobrá hračka gallery in Tatranská Lomnica. They will certainly also appreciate Tricklandia in Starý Smokovec. Of course, in winter you will enjoy sledding, cross-country skiing, or downhill skiing in the mountains. That is why the Vysoké Tatry is an ideal holiday destination for families with children.

We offer accommodation near Kúpele Vyšné Hágy as well as accommodation in the Vysoké Tatry on our portal. Hotels and guesthouses with wellness services, apartments, cottages, and private accommodation are available for you. The accommodation facilities provide advantageous packages for seniors, families with children, and active tourists alike. All you have to do is choose, and your holiday or spa stay in Vyšné Hágy can begin.

Skalnaté pleso

Skalnaté pleso

Vysoké Tatry mesto

Skalnaté pleso is one of the most popular tourist spots in the Vysoké Tatry mountains. You can get here from Tatranská Lomnica on foot along a marked hiking trail or by cable car. It makes a beautiful trip for families with children as well.

Skalnaté pleso is located at an altitude of 1,755 m above sea level, and an educational trail leads around it, keeping even the youngest visitors entertained. At the top of the cable car station, there is a restaurant with a sun terrace, and right next to it is a children's playground - Svištia krajinka, where kids can play to their heart's content. You will find wooden marmot sculptures, climbing frames, a marmot cabin, and many other attractions here.

The tarn is of morainic origin, formed naturally after the Ice Age. No fish live in it, and its water level fluctuates. Interestingly, during dry periods, the lake dries up, which has been influenced not only by climate change but also by the construction of the cable car station.

From Skalnaté pleso, you can take a cable car to Lomnický štít, which towers to an altitude of 2,634 m above sea level directly above the tarn, creating breathtaking views. Near the tarn, at an altitude of 1,781 m above sea level, you will also discover the Astronomické observatórium, which includes an observatory.

Skalnaté pleso is magnificent in both winter and summer. During a winter skiing trip, you can relax here before hitting the slopes, on what is, by the way, the steepest ski slope in Slovakia. However, don't forget to check the weather forecast; the Vysoké Tatry can be unpredictable. Set out on a trip here and you certainly won't regret it. Päť Spišských plies

Päť Spišských plies

Vysoké Tatry mesto

You will find Päť Spišských plies in the Vysoké Tatry mountains near the well-known Téryho chata mountain hut. The starting point is usually Starý Smokovec, but a hiking trail also leads to them from Tatranská Javorina. These five charming mountain lakes have earned the admiration of many a hiker. The high-altitude hike is suitable mainly for experienced hikers with good physical fitness. Many combine it with a crossing from Malá Studená dolina to Veľká Studená dolina. Whichever path you choose, you will not regret it.

Päť Spišských plies is actually a group of five lakes of glacial origin. Are you wondering why they are named "Spišské" when they are actually in the Tatras? They received their name in the past, derived from the Spiš County (župa) to which the lakes belonged. You can see them in this order: Malé Spišské pleso, Prostredné Spišské pleso, Veľké Spišské pleso, Vyšné Spišské pleso, and Nižné Spišské pleso. They are located at an altitude of approximately 2,000 m above sea level.

Start your hike to Spišské plesá in Starý Smokovec. If you want to save yourself some kilometers and leg strength, take the funicular up to Hrebienok. From there, follow the hiking trail to Zamkovského chata and then head up a very steep hill to Téryho chata. It is the highest-altitude mountain hut open year-round in Slovakia. Here, you can rest and refresh yourself. After all, enjoying steamed buns, homemade goulash, and a beer at an altitude of 2,015 m above sea level is not something you get to do every day. The route from Starý Smokovec is approximately 6 kilometers long, but the elevation gain is over 700 vertical meters. From Téryho chata, it is just a short walk to Spišské plesá.

If you are lucky, along the way you will see herds of chamois or hear marmots whistling. At Päť Spišských plies, you can decide whether to return back via Malá Studená dolina or continue through Priečne sedlo into Veľká Studená dolina and past Zbojnícka chata back to Starý Smokovec. If you long to see the Belianske Tatry mountains, plan your trip to Päť Spišských plies through Javorová dolina from Tatranská Javorina. This route is more demanding and longer, so you really need to set aside an entire day for it, as this valley is 11 kilometers long. However, you can also look forward to other mountain lakes here: Žabie Javorové pleso and Modré pleso.

If you love hiking, you should definitely set out for Spišské plesá. It is a popular trip after which you will fall asleep tired, yet filled with energy from the beautiful nature. Stay in the Vysoké Tatry mountains for a vacation and enjoy other Tatra hikes as well. We offer you accommodation in Vysoké Tatry, accommodation in Starý Smokovec, or accommodation in Tatranská Javorina on our portal. It is precisely within this unique natural composition that the oldest Slovak observatory found its home,  the Astronomické observatórium Skalnaté pleso observatory. The dominant two-dome structure is located just a few meters from the lake itself and the cable car station. The direct access point to this site is one of the largest settlements in High Tatras, the tourist-favorite Tatranská Lomnica.

The Astronomické observatórium Skalnaté pleso was founded in 1943. Its founder, Dr. Antonín Bečvář, served as its first director. Since 1982, when the naming of the minor planet was recognized by the International Astronomical Union, Skalnaté pleso is no longer found only in our high mountains, but also somewhere in the orbit of the Sun, at a minimum distance of 279 million km from Earth.

While a journey to the asteroid Skalnaté pleso is a thing of the distant future, you can comfortably ride up to our terrestrial Skalnaté pleso by cable car from Tatranská Lomnica. Hiking enthusiasts can set off on an ascent along a moderately challenging trail lasting 2 hours and 40 minutes.

Galéria Dobrá hračka

Galéria Dobrá hračka

Vysoké Tatry mesto

This unique interactive children's gallery is guided by a revolutionary, yet wonderfully simple idea: "let's play smartly". After all, it was during childhood that many of us discovered the magic of the profession that feeds us today. Play doesn't just mean sitting at a computer. Play in childhood should be full of discoveries, imagination, dreams, laughter, and yes, occasionally some dirt, torn pants, or scraped knees. Galéria Dobrá hračka fosters creativity, teamwork, self-confidence, and spontaneity in children. So don't hesitate and come visit with your children too. You can even host a children's birthday party here or expand your home toy collection with truly unique pieces from the local shop.

In Tatranská Lomnica, right opposite the Múzeum Tatranského národného parku, a children's paradise stretches across an area of 500 m². Remember what it was like to dream about becoming a police officer or an astronaut? With us, children try out the profession firsthand. Little police officers direct traffic here and fine non-compliance with traffic regulations. On top of that, however, they will investigate a crime scene and perhaps even solve a tricky case. An obstacle course will test the fitness of many a little firefighter. Will yours be the one to help a kitten down from a tree?

While one child is drawn to a uniform, the hearts of others will be won over by science. Little doctors will treat minor injuries, learn something new about the human body, and maybe even put together an X-ray image. A future archaeologist will use a hammer slightly different from a medical one when searching for excavations. And who knows, maybe they will find their very first one right at Dobrá hračka. Discovering everyday life is also fascinating, though. How does a cogwheel turn, and what does it need teeth for if it doesn't go to the dentist? Our factory provides the answer, where children have already assembled many a working machine.

If your little princess likes dressing up dolls, you, and herself, perhaps a fashion designer's talent lies within her, just waiting to mature. Mandatory equipment includes tailor's chalk, a tape measure, scissors, and, of course, plenty of creative and quirky ideas. On the runway under the spotlights, they can showcase a graceful walk and command all the attention. Maybe a drummer in the music corner will play to their beat! However, lovers of fast driving will also have fun here. They can cruise the roads (watch out for the police officer!), but also look under the hood of a Formula car in the role of auto mechanics. Check the tires, refuel, and head out! Yet that's still not all, but we won't reveal any more to you so that you have some surprises left.

Good children don't misbehave; good children play. And they love to play most of all in Galéria Dobrá hračka, so come see for yourself as well. Moreover, if you book accommodation near Galéria Dobrá hračka, you can plan a great multi-day trip full of fun. Children and adults alike love the exhibition at the Múzeum Tatranského národného parku, where, for example, they can explore a bear den from the inside. And if you hop on the Tatra electric railway (tatranská električka), all the attractions of Vysoké Tatry will be within reach, hiking, family, relaxation, and gastronomy. The Tatry are indeed a region of unlimited possibilities, so come explore them. Apartments in Tatranská Lomnica and cottages in Vysoké Tatry are already waiting for you.

Hviezdoslavov vodopád

Hviezdoslavov vodopád

Tatranská Javorina

Vysoké Tatry undoubtedly belong to the most beautiful and sought-after tourist locations in Slovakia. The massive peaks of the Tatry mountains, deep valleys formed by glaciers, murmuring streams full of crystal clear water, unique fauna and flora, and clean air are a guarantee of satisfaction even for the most demanding tourists. One of the beautiful and interesting destinations for your walks can be Hviezdoslavov vodopád.

The beginning of your journey will lead through Tatranská Javorina. This picturesque mountain village may interest you because it was the seat of Prince Hohenlohe, who had a beautiful two-story wooden hunting lodge built here. Your steps may also lead around the ancient wooden Kostol sv. Anny church. You can reach the waterfall along the blue tourist trail through the Bielovodská dolina valley. This was named after the wild mountain river Biela voda. Its bed is strewn with white granite pebbles. This valley is interesting because, as the only one in the Vysoké Tatry, it has an alpine character. This was given to it by the glacier that shaped it. During the glaciation period, it reached a length of up to 14 km and a thickness of 300 m. It is the longest Tatry valley, measuring over 10 km. However, you can also reach the waterfall by the ground funicular to Hrebienok, around Zbojnícka chata through Prielom, and past Zamrznuté pleso.

The trip to Hviezdoslavov vodopád is relatively comfortable and is also managed by families with children. The waterfall is one of the most beautiful Tatry glacial waterfalls. It is located at an altitude of 1575 m a. s. l. The water plunges from a stone granodiorite threshold to a depth of 15 m. Although it is a frequent destination for family walks, in this case, the journey to it is no less important and exciting. In the oldest Slovensko national park, you have plenty to admire. The original forests will interest you with their diverse tree species composition. In addition to Norway spruce, fir, and beech, you will also encounter the pride of the Tatry valleys, the Swiss pine (borovica limba), or noble specimens of the sycamore maple (javor horský). At higher altitudes, dwarf mountain pine (borovica kosodrevina) and rowan (jarabina vtáčia) are also added. The fauna is no less interesting. With a bit of luck, you can see the king of the Tatry sky, the golden eagle, the unique glacial relic of the Tatry chamois, or hear the whistling of the Tatry marmot. Botany lovers will be pleased by the multitude of rare species.

If you find yourself in this region during the winter season, you might be pleased during your stay by the possibility of skiing in Ski TAJA - Tatranská Javorina or Ski centrum Strednica Ždiar. Devotees of educational trails will be pleased by a walk to Zadné Meďodoly. You can discover a unique world of light attractions in the Svetelný dóm in Ždiar. In summer, you can enjoy a day full of fun with your little ones in Family Park Strachankovo.

Full of experiences or tired from hiking, you will gladly rest in a comfortable bed in accommodation near Hviezdoslavov vodopád. In this location too, we bring you the offer of our accommodation providers. Will you be appealed by the beautiful and comfortable apartments Tatranská Javorina, or would you rather prefer romance by the fire in a Tatry cottage? We will leave this decision solely to you.

First, you will pass the first ski resort called SkiChem. You will continue further until you reach Nová Lopušná dolina SKITATRY.

You may encounter several names: Zadná Lopušná dolina, SKITATRY, Ski Tatrasvit. However, it always refers to one and the same ski resort, where perfect skiing awaits you.

One ski lift and one slope await you here. But don't let that deter you; you are guaranteed to have fun on the slope. The total length of the slope is approximately 1 km. It is intended mainly for advanced skiers. Its upper part is marked in black, which means the steepest incline and a challenge even for the best skiers. The lower part is marked in red and is of medium difficulty, where a wide range of skiers will come into their own. The advantage of the lift is that you can detach from it during the ride, thus avoiding the most demanding, black section at the top. For beginners, a short lift in the lower part of the resort is available.

Naturally, the resort features an artificial snowmaking system and a pleasant restaurant with a snack bar in the lower part of the resort. The cherry on top is the option of night skiing under artificial lighting. And we cannot fail to mention the Vysoké Tatry themselves. Ski resorts can be found at Štrbské Pleso or in Tatranská Lomnica. These are modern and large ski areas.

Zadná Lopušná dolina is a favorite spot for many skiers from near and far. Right by the slopes, you will find cottages that provide pleasant and affordable accommodation. The nearby town of Svit also offers plenty of accommodation capacities for skiers. There are many apartments, private rentals, guesthouses, and hotels of all categories. First-class skiing doesn't have to be expensive, nor do you have to travel far for it. Experience it in Nová Lopušná dolina.

Belasé pleso

Belasé pleso

Ždiar

Belasé pleso is located in the northeastern part of the Vysoké Tatry, more precisely in Dolina Zeleného Plesa, which is part of Červená dolina. The waters of the tarn fill a glacial cirque and its lower part is dammed by a moraine 6 m high. The tarn has no surface inlet or outlet. It belongs among the smaller Tatra tarns, with an area of only 0.07 ha, a length of 40 m. Therefore, in the summer months, it often dries up completely, reaching its maximum depth of 3.8 m only during cold and humid months.

The name of Belasé pleso originated from the apparent color of the water, created by reflections on the water surface. It lies at an altitude of 1,862 m a. s. l., and towering above it to the north are Kozí štít and Jahňací štít, to the west Kolové sedlo, and to the south Jastrabia veža. To the southeast, there are no peaks but open landscape, of which Červené pleso is a part.

No tourist trail leads directly to Belasé pleso, but south of it runs a yellow trail that starts at Chata pri Zelenom plese and ends at Jahňací štít. This hike sets out from Tatranské Matliare, towards Šalviový prameň, through the Kovaľčíková poľana crossroads, then to Zelené pleso, and subsequently to the peak. For the return trip, it is necessary to go back the same way. This route is classified as more demanding and takes a full day.

To explore this area, you will need accommodation near Belasé pleso, so you have a place to rest after the hike. The easiest option will be to stay in Tatranské Matliare, where you will find comfortable apartments. A more varied offer is in Tatranská Lomnica, where various types of accommodation are available, and you can choose exactly the one that suits you. Tatranská Lomnica will, of course, also provide all necessary services, and besides that, there are several tourist attractions right there, including the Múzeum Tatranského národného parku museum, a bobsleigh track, or the Aqua Relax Titris water world.

Zelené pleso

Zelené pleso

Vysoké Tatry mesto

Zelené pleso is one of the most romantic tarns in the Vysoké Tatry mountains. This glacial lake, lying at an altitude of 1551 m a.s.l., was named thanks to the springs that well up at its bottom and cause green spots. However, a more interesting variation is the ancient legend according to which a dazzling green gemstone fell into it from Jastrabej veže tower.

If you were looking on a map, point your finger to the eastern part of the Vysoké Tatry, to the Doliny Bielej vody kežmarskej valley, or the Doliny Zeleného plesa valley. Thanks to a maximum depth of 4.5 m, you can see all the way to the bottom of this moraine tarn from near the shore. With an area of 1.78 ha, it does not belong among the largest tarns, but it is definitely one of the most beautiful.

This turquoise-colored tarn is a popular destination not only for experienced hikers, skiers, and cyclists but also for families with older children or active seniors. Even so, good physical fitness is recommended, as the hike with an elevation gain of 855 meters along the yellow tourist trail is only moderately difficult, yet relatively lengthy. However, if that is not enough for you, the natural continuation of the route is the ascent to Jahňací štít peak or continuing to Skalnaté pleso.

The dominant feature of the view is the well-known "Brnčalka", as the Chata pri Zelenom plese mountain hut is called, which, thanks to its ochre facade, cannot be confused with any other. The history of the first shelter on the site of the current hut dates back to the end of the 1890s. It is open year-round, and if you are planning a challenging hike to the surrounding peaks, it is a suitable place for an overnight stay. Otherwise, do you know about its unusual phenomenon, which is more known from Nordic countries? In the period from October to March, not a single ray of sun touches it. Despite this, it is very popular even during this period.

The starting points for the hike to Zelenému plesu are Tatranské Matliare, the Biela Voda bus stop, or Tatranská Lomnica. For a perfect hiking experience, good planning is necessary, especially if you are traveling with children. So that you are not under time pressure to return home before dark, we recommend booking accommodation nearby in advance. You can find the best offers for accommodation near Zeleného plesa, as well as accommodation Tatranské Matliare or accommodation Tatranská Lomnica, directly on our website.

Popradské pleso

Popradské pleso

Vysoké Tatry mesto

In Mengusovská dolina, you will find the fourth largest lake in Slovakia – Popradské pleso. Popradské pleso covers an area of almost 7 hectares, is situated at an altitude of 1,494 m above sea level, and reaches a depth of 17 meters. It is just as sought after as the other tarns in Vysoké Tatry.

The tarn was formed in the last ice age after the retreat of glaciers by water flowing in from surrounding peaks and valleys. The path to it is suitable for any determined person, as this route can be managed even by wheelchair users – access is also provided via a paved asphalt road. Find nearby accommodation for families with children, large groups of friends, cyclists, vital seniors, or couples in love, and enjoy Popradské pleso.

In the 18th century, Popradské pleso was also referred to as Rybie pleso. Why? As the only one located on the southern side of the Tatry, it provided a home to the brown trout. In 1879, the first tourist mountain hut was built here, Chata pri Popradskom plese, also known as Chata kpt. Morávku. An interesting feature of Popradské pleso is also Symbolický cintorín (the Symbolic Cemetery for the Victims of the High Tatras), located in a Swiss pine grove under Ostrva. Here, they also honored 13 victims of a 1974 avalanche.

In addition to the blue hiking trail, you can also choose other difficulty levels for your hike to Popradské pleso. It depends entirely on you whether you select the station Popradské Pleso, Štrbské Pleso, or Sliezsky dom as your starting point.

If you plan to stay in the Tatry longer, we definitely recommend choosing from our selection of accommodations, which includes hotels near Popradské pleso, or private cottages near Popradské pleso. Or would you rather opt for charming guesthouses in Popradské pleso? The decision is yours. Our offer is truly diverse; all you need to do is book.

Nové Štrbské pleso

Nové Štrbské pleso

Vysoké Tatry mesto

There is probably no tourist in Slovakia who does not know the beautiful lake Štrbské pleso. However, not everyone knows that approximately half a kilometer southeast of it, below the mouth of the Mlynická dolina valley, lies the lake Nové Štrbské pleso. Cadastrally, it falls under the village of Štrba, in the Poprad district. It covers an area of 2 hectares at an altitude of 1,315 m above sea level, with its maximum depth reaching 9.6 m.

However, it is not a natural tarn. It was artificially created in 1905 from the former Štrbské mozgroviska, a silty tarn. The architect Karol Móry is considered its creator. The lake is densely overgrown with peat, which forms small islands on it. These need to be cleaned regularly. However, it is also home to many species of fish that thrive here. When you add all the surrounding trees and amazing views of the majestic Tatra peaks, a perfect spot is born.

The hike to Nové Štrbské pleso can be considered a gentle walk. If you arrive at the Štrbské Pleso railway station, after crossing the tracks of the rack railway, a path will lead you to the tarn. Before you know it, after approximately 5 minutes of walking, you are at the water. If you arrive by car, from the park-and-ride lot at Štrbské pleso, walk under the railway bridge directly to the tarn. From this side, it will take you 10 minutes on foot. It is so close, yet so few people know about it. Bench seating has been built around it for a pleasant rest; looking at the water surface can calm even the most troubled thoughts.

The surroundings probably do not need a special introduction, but there is always someone who has not yet discovered the beauty of the Vysoké Tatry. Book accommodation near Nové Štrbské pleso, for example on the page accommodation Štrbské Pleso, and come explore! Take a hiking trail to Popradské pleso, to the Skok waterfall, or to Kriváň. Take the cable car to Predné Solisko or the tram to Starý Smokovec, and from there to Hrebienok, to Tricklandia, or to Tatranský ľadový dóm Hrebienok. And that is just a small sample. Bring your family, children, and friends along, and experience for yourself what this beautiful piece of Slovakia has to offer.

Vodopád Skok

Vysoké Tatry mesto

The majestic Vodopád Skok is located in the Vysoké Tatry mountains in the Mlynická valley. It is frequently visited by tourists and easily accessible even for families with children. You can visit it year-round, but it is nevertheless most beautiful and massive when the ice melts.

Vodopád Skok lies at an altitude of 1,789 meters above sea level and its height is 30 meters. Its water source is Pleso nad Skokom, located above it. The view of the waterfall leaves no one indifferent, and thanks to the surrounding peaks, you will stand before it open-mouthed. This watercourse is indeed a magnificent sight to behold.

To Vodopád Skok, it is literally just a stone's throw away (a hop away). Which is great, especially for seniors and families with children. This easy Tatras hike will take you approximately 1.5 to 2 hours on the way there. And even children from about 4 years old can handle it, with the right motivation, of course.

Start your hike at Štrbské Pleso. Here you will also find a parking lot for your car, or you can take the rack railway train here from the village of Štrba. Štrbské Pleso is a tourist starting point for many hikes. Find the yellow trail marker and set off along it. The route begins with an asphalt road into Mlynická dolina. Here you will be treated to a beautiful view of the western peaks of the Vysoké Tatry: Soliská, Štrbský štít, and Patria. You will pass by ski jumping ramps and then continue along a paved and later stony path through dwarf pine to the waterfall.

Vodopád Skok will charm both young and adult hikers. The older ones can continue to Pleso nad Skokom, to which the trail continues. However, part of the route here goes over rocks, and you need to hold on to chains. Therefore, if you are afraid of heights, stay to admire Vodopád Skok from below. The walls of the Tatras rocks near the waterfall also provide space for rock climbers. In winter, ski touring enthusiasts like to come here instead.

A trip to the waterfall is a great experience. If you decide to stay for a holiday in the Vysoké Tatry, you will not regret it. Tatras Tower

Tatras Tower

Vysoké Tatry mesto

The Tatras Tower observation tower at Štrbské Pleso represents one of the most modern and highest structures of its kind in Central Europe, offering visitors unique contact with the high-mountain environment.

The attraction is located in the Štrbské Pleso area, in the village of Štrba, in the Poprad district, at an altitude of approximately 1,350 meters. The tower reaches a height of 53 meters, and its spiral path with a gentle incline ensures comfortable and barrier-free access all the way to the very top. During the ascent, visitors pass by educational boards that introduce the fauna, flora, and history of the Tatry mountains, thus the tower also fulfills an educational function. The main attraction is an adrenaline-inducing walking net at a height of almost 50 meters above the ground and a glass floor that offers a view directly beneath the visitors' feet. For thrill-seekers, the longest and highest-situated dry slide in Slovakia is available, which can be used to shorten the way down. The tower's structure is designed to withstand demanding high-mountain conditions while sensitively complementing the surrounding sports infrastructure near the ski jumps. A visit to the tower is possible all year round, while every sunset or temperature inversion in the valleys gives the view an unmistakable atmosphere.

What can you find here?

In the tower complex, you will find a spiral observation path, an adrenaline net, a glass observation platform, and a sixty-one-meter-long dry slide. Interactive educational stations, a souvenir shop, and modern technical facilities, including restrooms, are available. In the immediate vicinity, there are parking lots and starting points for hiking trails around the Areál snov area.

Who is this place suitable for?

The location is ideal for families with children who will appreciate the fun elements and a safe route to the top, as well as for seniors and persons with limited mobility due to the barrier-free access. It is also sought after by landscape photographers and adrenaline lovers who want to try walking on a net above the abyss. Due to the open character of the structure, warmer clothing is recommended even during the summer months, as it can be windy at the top.

What can you visit in the surrounding area?

Just a few minutes of walking separate the tower from the iconic Štrbské pleso lake, which is ideal for walks or boating. You can also visit the Symbolický cintorín (Symbolic Cemetery) at Popradské pleso lake or set off on a hike to the Vodopád Skok (Skok Waterfall) in the Mlynická dolina valley. Náučný chodník Štrbské Pleso

Náučný chodník Štrbské Pleso

Vysoké Tatry mesto

Do you love the Vysoké Tatry mountains and enjoy spending your free time walking in the fresh air? Then put on your walking shoes and set off with us on the Náučný chodník Štrbské pleso educational trail. Bring your little ones along and discover together the history, fauna, and flora of this moraine lake. Did you know that the region in which Štrbské pleso lies was once called Štrbský chotár?

This highest-situated Tatras settlement (1,346 m a.s.l.) is located in the Národný park Vysoké Tatry (High Tatras National Park) and is a local part of the village of Štrba. 5 km long educational trail with 40 wooden information panels is open to tourists throughout the whole year. Even your youngest in a stroller or mobility-impaired persons in a wheelchair can handle the excursion along the paved stony path. Prepare for a 2.5-hour walk during which you will learn something about historical sights, spa history, as well as sports events at Štrbské Pleso.

Our hike begins in front of the railway station, which is the final stop of the Tatras electric railway and cog railway. Going up the stairs past Hotel Toliar, we find ourselves at Hotel Kempinski. We turn left and follow the asphalt road to a viewpoint from which we can already see our most visited Tatras lake from a distance. Water does not flow out of it anywhere, nor does any flow into it. It fills through underground springs from a depth of more than 12 meters. Thanks to its location, the surface of the lake is frozen for an average of 155 days a year. Other points of interest certainly include the ski jumping hill that has stood here since 1966. However, this massive structure has not been used for active sports for many years. In 1925, the European Ice Hockey Championships were held on the frozen surface of the lake.

The dark blue crystal-clear water in the lake is home to many small aquatic animals and fish. The most numerous fish species found here include chub, northern pike, European perch, and roach. A notable feature is the presence of the vendace fish (Coregonus maraena / sih maréna). This is most likely the last place in the world where this fish still occurs. Fishermen from the Třeboňsko region (Czech Republic) brought the vendace here in 1929. Their current number can be counted on the fingers of two hands. Despite the efforts of locals for artificial breeding, this fish is doomed to extinction.

Our trip continues to another viewpoint, offering an unprecedented view of the Podtatranská kotlina basin and the Nízke Tatry mountains. We proceed along a slightly steep slope from which we can see Cesta slobody. From Hotel Solisko, we continue around the lake, and after a few meters, we turn onto a narrow peninsula where we find the monument to the Slovenské národné povstanie (Slovak National Uprising). Right before it, we can stop at the memorial dedicated to our poet Maša Haľamová. On the northeastern shore, we turn onto the path that leads to Hotel Patria. If we turn left, we reach Hotel Fis, from where we can see all the way to Vodopád Skok waterfall, located in Mlynická dolina. At the main intersection, we turn left onto a small path leading to Nové Štrbské pleso (1,315 m a.s.l.). We will return to our destination, Štrbské pleso, along the path leading along the northern shore of the lake. If you have worked up an appetite after this easy hike, visit one of the hotel restaurants and treat yourself to a great gastronomic experience.

Plan your active holiday in Vysoké Tatry. But do not spend unnecessarily big money on expensive hotels. Comfortable yet affordable accommodation near Náučný chodník Štrbské Pleso can be found on our page cheap accommodation Štrbské Pleso. Whether you choose stylish apartments or cottages in the magical forest environment is entirely up to you. Spend the money saved to visit other attractions, of which there are plenty in the Tatras. Enjoy your stay in the fresh air and head to Botanická záhrada (Botanical Garden), where you have a great opportunity to discover up to 300 species of Tatras plants and trees. If you feel like something special, you will experience a proper dose of adrenaline on the Tatrabob bobsleigh track. We wish you a successful holiday full of unforgettable experiences.

Jahňací štít rises in the northeastern part of the Vysoké Tatry, at an altitude of 2,229.6 m a. s. l., and is the easternmost high-Tatras peak. It falls into the Prešovský kraj region, under the Poprad district. Four ridges branch out from it. The southwest ridge leads via Kolový priechod to Kolovské sedlo. The northwest ridge, called hrebeň Jahnecov, separates Jahňací kotol from Kolová dolina. The southeast ridge, called Kozí hrebeň, separates Červená dolina from Dolina Bielych plies. And the last, northeast ridge, leads via Jahňací hrb into Kopské sedlo.

Jahňací štít belongs among the 6 freely accessible mountain peaks. Climbing it can be undertaken only during the period when the trails are open, usually between June and November. Among tourists, it is said to have one of the most beautiful views in the entire Vysoké Tatry.

The English traveler Robert Townson with his guide Hans Gross during their visit to Uhorsko in 1793 made the first known ascent of Jahňací štít. However, it is probable that shepherds and poachers had already been on it before them, perhaps even miners who mined copper around the peak in the 18th century. In 1911, the first winter climbers were on the peak.

You can reach the summit via various routes. The shortest one leads along the yellow and subsequently blue tourist trail from the Biela voda stop to Chata pri Zelenom plese, known as Brnčalka (approximately 2.5 hours), and subsequently (approximately another 2 hours) all the way to the summit. A longer route leads from Skalnaté pleso via Veľká Svišťovka (along the yellow and red tourist trail), or from Chata Plesnivec (along the yellow, red, and green tourist trail). You can also set off from Tatranská Javorina, Tatranská Kotlina, Tatranské Matliare, Skalnatá chata, or Tatranská Lomnica. From the summit, you will subsequently see amazing views of the Belianske Tatry, Lomnický štít, Dolina Kežmarskej Bielej vody, Kolová dolina, and Dolina Bielych plies.

As time went on, the name of the peak also changed. When Townson wrote his first-ascent itinerary in 1793, he designated it as Štít Bieleho plesa, in the original White Lake Peak. Later, the name Lastovica was used. The creators of the name were inspired by the wallcreeper (murárik červenokrídly), popularly called skalná lastovica, which occurred abundantly in this locality. The current name cannot be attributed to shepherds with certainty, although the word "jahňací" might evoke it. A more probable reason is the German and Hungarian mutation of the name, where the translation preserved the name Kamzičí štít. There is an assumption that the poachers of the time also played a role in creating the name, who once called young chamois lambs (jahňatá). In any case, we also owe the current name to the Uhorský karpatský spolok, which was active in creating the nomenclature of objects in the Tatry at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century.

The climb to Jahňací štít does not belong among extremely difficult ones, yet it is still not recommended to underestimate preparation. Go on the hike rested and full of strength. You will achieve this, for example, by staying somewhere in the vicinity of Jahňací štít, and in the morning you do not have to waste time with a long transfer from home.
