Predajnianske vodopády

Predajnianske vodopády

Predajná

The Predajnianske vodopády are located in the cadastral area of the village of Predajná in the Brezniansky okres. The cascading waterfalls of the Čelno stream boast not one but two streams, with a 5 m drop forming on one of them, while the other is only half that height. Since 1991, they have been a nature monument, and the 11.7 ha area falls under the administration of the Poľana state nature conservation. Protection applies not only to the waterfalls but also to rock seas and well-preserved plant and animal communities, which are important from an educational, scientific, and ecological perspective.

Above the waterfalls, tourists will also find one technical monument. The Kelemenov tunel on the forest road is a Slovak rarity. It was established back in 1928 when the narrow forest road in the Predajnianske Čelno valley was being adapted for timber transport by horse-drawn carriages. At one point, it was impossible to cut the road into the steep slope, and thus a 280 cm wide tunnel was pierced. It was named after its author, Ing. Vojtech Kelemen, the then director of Štátne lesy Banská Bystrica. In 1971, the tunnel underwent reconstruction and was enlarged to a height of 435 cm, a width of 440 cm, and a length of 41.5 m, thereby adapting it for car traffic.

Children can also easily manage the undemanding trip to the Predajnianske vodopády. The walk is also worth undertaking in winter when unique icefalls form. Marked trails lead to the waterfalls both from Predajná (approximately 11 km) and from the village of Lopej (approximately 9 km). Cyclists can also look forward to reaching the waterfalls along a marked cycling route named "Popod Hrb až na Štopm".

Accommodation near Prednianskych vodopádov is oriented rather toward cottages and chalets; you can look for them, for example, in Osrblie or Horná Lehota. If you are looking for apartments, enter the village of Valaská into our filters. If you stay in chalets in Bystrá, you will be close to the Bystrianska jaskyňa as well.

Turovský vodopád

Turovský vodopád

Turová

The Turovský vodopád waterfall, which is located approximately 1 km beyond the village of the same name, is sometimes also known by the names Padalo or Skalný vodopád. It falls from a height of 15 m on the course of a local stream. It is a true gem of the surroundings and only a few people know about it. It hides in a valley with the character of a canyon, in the Kremnické vrchy mountains, in the zvolenský district. Ask the locals how to get to it, they will certainly be happy to help you with navigation.

You will walk along one of two hiking trails leading from the village of Turová. One leads directly through the gorge, the other lines its upper edge. The route is not demanding, the village has installed directional signs and cleaned up the access. Children can also easily manage the walk to the waterfall. Once you are at the waterfall, it is worth going nearby to the second natural monument. It is the Turovský sopúch volcanic vent, meaning the naked throat of a former volcano. Right next to it you will also find an information board.

You can head to the waterfall at any time of the year. Basically, it does not dry up, but during the dry season, the view is not as magical as it is during snow melting or after heavy rains. In any case, you can try coming in both spring and summer and make up your own mind. After all, that is always best. Book accommodation near the Turovský vodopád waterfall, ideally right on the accommodation Turová website, or alternatively accommodation Zvolen. We wish you a pleasant stay and a great trip experience.

Necpalské vodopády

Necpalské vodopády

Necpaly

Necpalské vodopády cascade along the course of the Necpalský potok stream. It flows through the Necpalská valley, located in the Veľká Fatra mountain range. Tourists often combine their trips, and their route also leads into Blatnická dolina and Gaderská dolina valleys. Heading upstream along the creek, they frequently set out towards the summit of Ploská. Regardless of the starting direction, visitors make their way to the waterfalls all year round. The length of the route as well as its difficulty depends on the point you start from.

Most often, the starting point is the village of Necpaly. From there, it takes approximately two hours to reach the waterfalls by following the blue hiking trail. Following the same color, but from the opposite direction, from above, you can descend to the waterfalls from the ridges of the Veľká Fatra range. From the mountain cabin Chata pod Borišovom, it will take you about half an hour less. In the case of the second mentioned access route, be careful of avalanches in the winter. An asphalt road leads between the mountain hut and the village of Necpaly almost the entire way, offering an easy hiking walk, but you can also complete it by bicycle. Right by the road are the waterfalls Vodopád Revúcky mlyn and Druhý (or Dolný) Necpalský vodopád, while to reach the others, you need to step off the main road.

As we already mentioned in the introduction, and as follows from the name after all, there are several waterfalls. The first waterfall in the valley is the approximately 4 m high Vodopád Revúcky mlyn. It is the most prominent of all and is located in the Balcierovo area. It is followed by the approximately 1.2 m high Malý Necpalský vodopád, which lies at the point where the Prierastlé stream flows into Necpalský potok. Next in order is the approximately 2 m high Dolný Necpalský vodopád, for which the name Druhý Necpalský vodopád is also used. The group is closed by the approximately 4.5 m high Prvý Necpalský vodopád, which is also known as Horný Necpalský vodopád and Veľký Necpalský vodopád. Quite a chaos in the names, isn't it? Indeed, even the locals had to get used to which waterfall is called what for a long time.

Whether the names are confusing or not, the view of the waterfalls is definitely worth it. Look for suitable accommodation near Necpalské vodopády, for example, on the page accommodation Necpaly, and come admire them with your own eyes. Staying near them calms you down, and the view of them sets you free. Those who haven't experienced it won't believe it. Put on your hiking boots and head off to the picturesque and beautiful Necpalská dolina valley.

Brankovský vodopád

Brankovský vodopád

Ružomberok

Thanks to its height of 55 m, Brankovský vodopád is the highest waterfall in the Nízke Tatry. It is located in the cadastre of the town of Ružomberok, in the settlement of Podsuchá, in the side valley of Vyšný Brankov, in the Žilinský kraj. Towering above it is the peak Veľký Brankov, after which the waterfall is also named. It is situated at an altitude of 775–830 m a. s. l. It drops from Kurucká skala, a rock formation composed of dolomite. Since 1980, it has been a national natural monument located in the Národný park Nízke Tatry. The area of the entire Národná prírodná rezervácia Brankovský vodopád nature reserve covers 27.71 ha.

The waterfall was formed thanks to a mountain stream falling over a limestone rock step. The water has a stable flow rate of 3 l/s. The wall down which the waterfall flows is slightly broken up, which is why various ledges and cascades occur here. The waterfall is hidden in the valley, but the route to it is easy. It could almost be called a walk, apart from the final section if you want to get directly underneath the waterfall. There, on the last few meters, wooden bridges with handrails are located, as well as a chain right under the waterfall to prevent potential injuries.

Year-round, it belongs among the highly sought-after locations for experienced hikers, but it is also a pleasant mountain walk for families with children or seniors. The walk to it takes from half an hour to an hour, depending on your physical condition. It is not demanding. You start from the parking lot on the main road between Ružomberok and Donovaly and continue along the marked green hiking trail. You pass through beautiful natural scenery formed by a dark valley surrounded by forest. You can also reach the waterfall from Ružomberok via a cycling path.

In summer, the waterfall creates a crystal-clear veil of falling water. The sight of it has a soothing effect, acting as a balm for the soul. However, given that it is relatively hidden in the valley, do not expect wide views or much penetrating sunlight from it. Yet, this cooling effect is all the more pleasant during the hottest months of the year. In winter, the scenery changes completely. The waterfall turns into a magnificent icefall, which is becoming increasingly popular among the ice-climbing community.

In addition to hikers, you may also encounter treasure hunters. Legend has it that Jánošík hid his treasures near Brankovský vodopád. So far, no one has found them, so the chance of discovering them is still there. When you are in Donovaly or Ružomberok and passing along the main road, take the time to stop at this beautiful place. You will both take a break from driving and discover a beautiful part of our country.

An even better idea is to book accommodation near Brankovský vodopád. Since there are many opportunities in the Nízke Tatry for hiking, active and passive relaxation, or a trip following the footsteps of history and art, it would be a shame not to stay for at least a few days. Click on the accommodation in Ružomberok page; you will surely find suitable lodging for yourself, your family, or your friends.

Vajskovský vodopád

Vajskovský vodopád

Dolná Lehota

Vajskovský vodopád falls along the flow of the Vajskovský potok stream, which flows through one of the most beautiful valleys of the Nízke Tatry mountains. That is Vajskovská dolina. It offers many attractive options for hiking, cycling, boating on the lake, and beautiful walks through the quiet forest. One such walk will lead you to the 9 m high Vajskovský vodopád, which is located at an altitude of 1,200 m above sea level. The valley is attractive throughout the entire year, and its advantage is that it is not overly crowded with tourists, as it lies off the main tourist routes.

The waterfall is magnificent in every season; however, like any other, it is most striking during the period after heavy rains and when snow melts. What is characteristic of it? Veils of water falling from a height, their roar, and beautiful, in some periods even wild, vegetation. The pristine nature of the gorgeous Vajskovská dolina valley protects and hides it well. You will find it at its very end. While walking through the valley, make some natural noise, as bears occur in large numbers in these places. In fact, the first chamois were released here in the past, relocated from the Vysoké Tatry mountains.

You can reach the waterfall from the village of Dolná Lehota. From there, your steps will lead along a 13.5 km long hiking trail that ends right at Vajskovský vodopád. It involves walking along an asphalt road, which you will leave approximately 1.5 km from the waterfall. From there, you will continue through a small forest and a meadow. Whether you go on foot or pedal on a bicycle is entirely up to you. Given the terrain, the hike is classified as easy. And we certainly recommend completing it in winter as well, when the waterfall offers a beautiful icy view.

Please note that due to moving within the Národný park Nízke Tatry, it is forbidden to make fires, camp, or pick forest berries. Leave those for the animals and simply look all around at what our beautiful Mother Nature offers you. Breathe the fresh air, enjoy the silence and the sounds of the forest. The entire area is beautiful, so it would be a shame to visit for just one day. Find suitable accommodation near Vajskovský vodopád, for example on the page accommodation Dolná Lehota or accommodation Krpáčovo, and plan several trips. Take your family or friends with you and experience a real adventure.

Jelení vodopád

Jelení vodopád

Ružomberok

Jelení vodopád can be found in Čutkovská dolina in Národný park Veľká Fatra. Čutkovská dolina is accessible from the Černová city district in Ružomberok. The valley is very popular with families with children, even though it is not very well known. Jelení vodopád is the second highest waterfall in Veľká Fatra, and its charm along with the surrounding nature will certainly enchant you. Set off on this easy trip and see for yourself.

To reach Jelení vodopád, you can take the hiking trail from Černová or from higher up by Koliba u dobrého pastiera. You can also park your car here. The road through Čutkovská dolina is paved at first and later changes into a gravel surface. It is also suitable for bicycles and strollers. Only the last section to the waterfall goes uphill. It takes about 15 minutes up forest stairs, of which there are 84 in total.

The educational trail called „Známa-Neznáma Čutkovská dolina“ leads through Čutkovská dolina. Information boards will reveal everything about the local fauna and flora, with information supplemented by pictures of animals and plants. It is approximately 4 kilometres to Jelení vodopád. On the walk, you can admire Čutkovský potok, the Čebraď water reservoir, or refresh yourself at a spring.

Jelení vodopád is formed by a tributary of Jelení potok flowing into Čutkovský potok. At the meeting point, the water gains force and falls down a rocky surface. The height of the waterfall reaches 24 metres and its highest point sits at an altitude of 824 m above sea level. It is, of course, most beautiful and powerful during the snowmelt period and after heavy rains. Jelení vodopád is a destructive type of waterfall, which means that over time it changes its slope, height, and the water inflow also decreases.

If you feel like continuing your trip, you can visit the nearby Jamišné vodopády, located at a junction in Čutkovská dolina, or continue to the end of the valley all the way to Tiesňava za dierou, also called Čutkovský kaňon. From Čutkovská dolina, you can also reach Hrabovo or the neighboring Hrabovská dolina. You can also hike up to the famous Vlkolínec open-air museum.

On the way back from Jelení vodopád, your children can have fun at the playground near the chalet, see animals at the farm, or visit the Obrovo amusement park. The valley is tailor-made for a pleasant holiday. We offer accommodation near Jelení vodopád or accommodation in Veľká Fatra on our portal. Book your family cottage, apartment, or guesthouse today.

Pokutský vodopád

Pokutský vodopád

Kľak

Pokutský vodopád is the largest waterfall in Chránená krajinná oblasť Ponitrie. It is also probably the only touristically known waterfall in the entire Vtáčnik mountain range. Sometimes you may also encounter its name Vodopád na Pokutskom potoku. You can find it while wandering in the surroundings of Žarnovica. It cascades in small steps over vertically cut andesite rocks. In summer, it is quite subtle due to the low flow rate of the stream.

That is also why we recommend planning your trip to it in spring, or during the period after heavier rains. These are frequent here in autumn, when the surroundings of the waterfall burst with beautiful, warm colors. Then you will enjoy a truly wonderful view. In Slovakia, we have many waterfalls, and each of them is unique. Pokutský vodopád is also beautiful in winter, when its waters freeze and you can see stunning crystal icicles on the individual andesite steps.

You can reach it via an asphalt road that lines the aforementioned Pokutský potok stream. Your starting point in this case will be in the village of Ostrý Grúň, after which you will cross Pokutský most bridge. However, there is another option. In the village of Kľak, you set off along a marked hiking trail that leads you to the summit of Vtáčnik. When you reach Partizánska chata, you must turn left onto an unmarked path, which will bring you directly to the waterfall. The closer you get to it, the more certain you will be in your steps. Nothing else will fill the air except the chirping of birds and the sound of gurgling water. A true balm for the soul.)

Chránená krajinná oblasť Ponitrie offers many other options for more or less demanding hiking. But that's not all, the entire area is very attractive, and anyone who hasn't been here should definitely change that. Start with a visit to the waterfall. Book accommodation near Pokutský vodopád, for example, on the page accommodation Kľak, and you will see that you will fall in love with this place.

Vodopád pod Orlovou
Vodopád pod Orlovou 3832, Pohorelá

Vodopád pod Orlovou

Pohorelá

"Where water falls from the rock" is an expressive and common local name for Vodopád pod Orlovou. The waterfall has a height of 5 m and is fed by the Kopanica stream. It lies at an altitude of 1,165 m above sea level, beneath Orlová, a majestic Low Tatras peak. Although it is not among the most famous waterfalls, it is extraordinarily impressive, especially during periods of its peak flow. When you are near the village of Pohorelá, be sure to take a trip to see it.

A path along a circular hiking trail from the aforementioned village of Pohorelá leads to it year-round. It is not a demanding hike at all, and no extra special physical fitness is required. Families with children and seniors can easily handle it. A great benefit of the trail is the surrounding area through which you pass. Along the way, wonderful views open up to you, namely of the peaks of the Nízke Tatry mountains, Muránska planina, and the Hron valley.

The surroundings of the waterfall are beautiful. Rocks, greenery, and trees are everywhere. Added to that are the sounds of falling water and a gurgling stream, just like in a fairytale. While walking, look not only around you but also beneath your feet. You might notice tree roots and mushrooms, as well as vipers, especially during the warm season. Locals will also warn you about bears, so it is good to keep that in mind and make "natural noise" in the forest.

During your wanderings through the nature of the Nízke Tatry mountains, we definitely recommend stopping at this lovely spot. It is advisable to book accommodation near Vodopád pod Orlovou, ideally on the page accommodation in Pohorelá. And bring your family or friends along too. Nature itself is beautiful, but in good company, staying in it takes on a completely different dimension.

Starohutský vodopád

Starohutský vodopád

Nová Baňa

When you continue approximately 300 m north of the Nová Baňa city district of Stará Huta, you will come across one of the most massive and beautiful waterfalls of the Central Slovakian volcanics. Yes, we are talking about Starohutský vodopád, a national natural monument of Slovakia. The water of the local Sklený potok stream falls at an altitude of 505 m above sea level, with the total height of the waterfall being 5 m. The path to it is easy and attractive in every season.

You can handle the walk to the waterfall even with smaller children. At the end of the settlement of Stará Huta, you will pass a signpost that will lead you past a few houses onto a forest path. While walking, you will be accompanied by the gurgling sound of the stream flowing from the direction of the waterfall you are heading toward. Its surroundings are beautiful, set in a valley. A large rock overgrown with moss, many plants all around. That is a sight that will immediately give you peace of mind.

In winter, its appeal does not diminish at all; quite the opposite. The waterfall freezes and you can enjoy yet another different view. A smaller seating area will serve you well for a brief rest. An information board is also located next to it. The information on it will introduce you to the surroundings as well as events related to the creation of the waterfall. For instance, you will also read on the board that the waterfall was formed as a result of a tectonic fault.

In addition to beautiful flora, interesting fauna can also be found in the area. When the sun's rays shine on the rocks, our protected wall lizard or fire salamander might flash beside them. And do you know why we are sure that the water in Starohutský vodopád is truly clean? The presence of the noble crayfish in it speaks for itself.

Come and marvel at this beautiful natural masterpiece yourself. You can reach the waterfall via the Náučný chodník Vojšín educational trail, which leads from the village of Stará Huta through Pohronský Inovec to the village of Malá Lehota. To be close by, book accommodation in the vicinity of Starohutský vodopád. For example, we recommend what you can find on the page accommodation Stará Huta or accommodation Nová Baňa. We wish you a pleasant stay, during which we also recommend visiting other attractions in the surroundings of Nová Baňa.
