Vodná nádrž Dubník
Vodná nádrž Dubník lies near the town of Stará Turá, located about 2 km away from it. It was created on the Kostelník stream and consists of as many as two reservoirs, Dubník I and Dubník II, also known as old and new Dubník, which are separated by about 700 m.
The lower-lying one is Dubník I, which also features a small island. The beginning of the dam's construction dates back to 1953. In addition to the reservoir, the Klubový dom house, access roads, and a parking lot were built. Its commissioning took place on May 9, 1954. Exactly one year later, Klubový dom was opened; this former boathouse no longer exists today, with only concrete foundations remaining. Originally, only a pond dam was constructed here, but later the project was changed, and the dam was subsequently built up to its current level, reaching full completion only in 1964. The crest of the dam is 126 m long and 6 m wide, with an asphalt road running along it. Dubník I covers an area of 18 ha and reaches a maximum depth of 6.67 m.
Vodná nádrž Dubník I has been a popular summer recreation area for years, which is why a beach and necessary services were established here. During the summer, not only swimming is popular, but also other water sports, with paddleboat and boat rental offering its services as well. Locals would rather recommend Dubník II for swimming, where the water is said to be cleaner, although access to the water is more demanding. In both reservoirs, swimming is at your own risk.
Anglers will also find plenty to enjoy. Not only can they engage in regular fishing here, but fishing competitions are also held regularly. Every year in July, the weekend motorcycle and music festival Tanec Slnka is organized. And not to forget about sports enthusiasts, we will also mention the popular Staroturanský triatlon at the end of August. Refreshment stalls, restaurants, various sports fields, and a playground for the little ones are available near Dubník I.
If swimming and sunbathing are not for you, you can take a walk around the old Dubník or cover this route by bicycle. For train lovers, we recommend visiting Stará Turá, where the Železničné múzeum museum is on offer.
