If you like hiking and enjoy wandering around Záhorie, the forest Náučný chodník Gazárka – Lásek educational trail will lead you through the protected Jubilejný les forest, which grows near the municipality of Šaštín – Stráže, in the Senica district. The undemanding route is 5,100 m long and can easily be handled by your children as well. Leave your everyday worries behind and take a nice family trip into nature. On your way through the forest, 12 information boards will accompany you, from which you will learn many interesting facts about tree species, their pests, as well as the cultivation and protection of young forest stands.
Jubilejný les was planted in 1928 in honor of the 10th anniversary of the founding of the Czechoslovak Republic. It spans an area of almost 15 ha and is exceptional for its diverse composition of trees and plants. You will find trees here that are atypical for the Záhorie region, such as the Douglas fir, black walnut, Eastern white pine, northern red oak, or pin oak. Several such "jubilee groves" were planted throughout the territory of the Czech Republic and Slovakia, but this one has been preserved in relatively good condition to this day. In 1986, Jubilejný les was declared a protected area.
The hike begins at the Prírodné kúpalisko Gazárka natural swimming resort, which is a popular spot for swimming and water sports in the summer months. The forest educational trail is marked with a green hiking trail marker and was established on the occasion of the 90th anniversary of the founding of State Forests in Šaštín, in 2011. You will find the first information board at the rekreačná chata Gazárka recreational cabin, which belongs to Lesy SR.
Approximately halfway along the trail, you will come across the kaplnka Sedembolestnej Panny Márie chapel, which was built by a certain Mr. Lanclauer in 1873. The educational trail ends at the horáreň Lásek keeper's lodge, and it is entirely up to you whether you continue to the Tomky locality or take a trip all the way to the village of Lakšárska Nová Ves. You can also explore the beauty of Jubilejný les from the saddle of a bicycle, but in some places there is a layer of loose sand, so extra caution is required when riding through.
