Kúpele Nimnica

Kúpele Nimnica

Nimnica

Kúpele Nimnica spa is located at an altitude of 300 m a.s.l., in the valley of the Váh river, between the towns of Púchov and Považská Bystrica. It ranks among the youngest Slovak spas, with some calling it the "mineral pearl of Slovakia." Mineral springs of rather cooler water (10–15 °C) enriched with magnesium, potassium, sodium, iodine, chlorine, calcium, iron, and free carbon dioxide have a beneficial effect on the treatment of patients. They come here with indicated circulatory and digestive tract diseases, oncological diseases, metabolic and endocrine disorders, non-tubercular respiratory diseases, nervous system diseases, gynecological diseases, musculoskeletal disorders, and occupational diseases.

When clean, salty, sparkling water was discovered during the deepening of the Váh riverbed in 1953, the history of Kúpele Nimnica began to be written. Analyses and surveys were conducted to determine its composition. As workers continued to construct the Nosická vodná nádrž reservoir, they drank the gushing water. Even then, its healing effects were discovered, which water analyses only confirmed. The water has a beneficial effect both externally and internally. And although the spa has been operating for only a "few" years (since 1959) compared to older Slovak mainstays, it has rightfully earned its place as a true healing location from which people leave healthier, more energetic, and happier.

Kúpele Nimnica has found its visitors among both locals and foreigners. In fact, more and more guests from abroad visit it. The springs of healing mineral water are used for various methods. Treatment takes place in the form of drinking cures, inhalation cures, and spa treatments. The last mentioned utilizes several procedures. These include hydrotherapy, iontophoresis, physical therapy, galvanization, shortwave diathermy, sunlamp therapy, faradization, and physical exercise. An interesting technique is the method of Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy (ESWT), which is also frequently sought after by athletes. Classic, reflexology, lymphatic, honey detox, hot stone, and cupping massages are also popular. Everything is, of course, appropriately complemented by medical nutrition. The diet is adapted to the needs of individual clients, being balanced and dietary. The services of a psychologist are also available.

The medical wellness center and the salt cave are very popular among guests. The wellness center features a warm water pool, whirlpool, Kneipp bath, tepidariums, and various types of saunas. Finnish, herbal, steam, infrared, salt. Which one is your favorite? The salt cave offers another form of relaxation. It has a very specific microclimate that affects breathing and successfully helps in the fight against fatigue and stress. It is recommended for patients and visitors who have digestive tract problems, reduced thyroid activity, or suffer from dermatological conditions. And of course, it is primarily recommended as a supportive treatment for the upper and lower respiratory tracts.

A guest should leave the spa completely regenerated, which is why you can take advantage of beauty services such as hair styling, cosmetics, and pedicures. And how about making your stay at the spa not only relaxing and health-restoring, but also truly unforgettable? Specifically, we have in mind a wedding or a celebration of a major anniversary. Alternatively, there is also an option for companies, as Kúpele Nimnica has both luxurious and standard spaces available for rent, designed for various training sessions or conferences. Consider it, employees would certainly welcome such an interesting experience.

Are you worried about how to fill your free time between individual procedures? There is no need for that at all! The spa complex features a fitness center, a social pavilion, and a café. Sports-minded guests will appreciate the multifunctional sports ground, billiards, bowling, table tennis, and outdoor chess. The surroundings of Kúpele Nimnica offer plenty of enjoyment, especially for nature lovers. There are numerous cycling and hiking paths that will lead you to the nearby forest park as well as to more distant corners of the Javorníky mountains. The nearby Nosická vodná nádrž reservoir is a popular recreational area. At the reservoir, you can enjoy swimming, water sports, and fishing, or you can try a sightseeing boat cruise. Swaying on the waves, you will find that everything suddenly takes on a slightly different touch.

However, the surrounding area also offers many monuments and attractions that would be a shame to miss. In Púchov, there is a sought-after archaeological museum and a wheel museum, while in Lednické Rovne, you will find the Slovenské sklárske múzeum (Slovak Glass Museum). Following the traces of glass production, for which this region is renowned, is a real experience. Ilava is known not only for its prison, but also for its beautiful manor house, which is home to another museum. Trenčín is famous for its dominant landmark, which many admire right from the highway, naturally, we are talking about the medieval Trenčiansky hrad castle.

Book your accommodation in the surroundings of Kúpele Nimnica and come discover the beauty of the Trenčín region for yourself. From your stay, you will bring home not only stronger health, perhaps a new friendship or love, but also many experiences. The accommodation page Nimnica will help you choose your lodging, and everything else will be entirely up to you.

Nosice

Nosice

Považská Bystrica

The Vodná nádrž Nosice water reservoir extends over an area of nearly 6 kilometers in the Trenčiansky kraj between the towns of Púchov and Považská Bystrica. It is also part of the Vážska kaskáda, a set of dams built on the Váh river, such as Liptovská Mara, the Bešeňová water reservoir, or Sĺňava. The Nosice reservoir is also known by many under the name Priehrada mládeže. This water body abounds with a beautiful natural surroundings and scenery that is enjoyed not only by local residents.

The Vodná nádrž Nosice water reservoir is the oldest dam on the Váh. Its construction began as early as 1949. The hydroelectric power plant, which is part of the dam wall, was built somewhat later, in 1957. Like other reservoirs on the Váh, it serves primarily to balance the water flow in the longest Slovak river and also to prevent floods in surrounding towns and villages.

The Nosice water body does not have a recreational center and is not all that well known. Nevertheless, people like to use it, for example, for boating, windsurfing, and in some places even for swimming. Cyclists, in turn, like to ride their bikes along the reservoir and admire the views of the surrounding hills of the Javorníky mountain range. The interesting S-shape makes the Nosice reservoir a popular trip not only for cyclists but also for lovers of long walks.

During the excavation of the Vodná nádrž Nosice near the village of Nimnica, water that was salty and fizzy was accidentally discovered. Upon examination, it was found to be a rare mineral spring with healing effects, and thus the youngest Slovak spa of the same name, Nimnica, was also established. You can find the spa on the southern side of the reservoir near the dam wall and the Nosice power plant.

Cyprinid fish thrive very well in the Vodná nádrž Nosice water reservoir. Fishermen can catch pike-perch, bream, eels, carp, and pike here. The fishing ground is designated as the Pod Dubovcom ground and extends from the Orlové city part of Považská Bystrica all the way to the Upohlav part of the village of Udiča. The quiet environment and magnificent surrounding nature make this reservoir an ideal place for a good fishing trip.

Botanický park - Lednické Rovne

Botanický park - Lednické Rovne

Lednické Rovne

Need a break from daily responsibilities? We have a great tip for you! Come clear your head in the Botanický park botanical park, which you can find in the area of the Renaissance manor house in Lednické Rovne. A magical green oasis of peace awaits you here. Covering an area of 20 hectares, you can view various rare plants and trees, which began to be planted as early as the beginning of the 18th century. A visit to the park will recharge your batteries and harmonize both body and soul.

Botanický park Lednické Rovne was built after the English model with various artificially created ruins of bastions, broken pillars, obelisks, and turrets, elegantly complemented by a small temple of the goddess Minerva. Its creation dates back to the second half of the 17th century, when Count František Rákoci II had one hundred linden trees planted here. Further planting and modernization of the park was continued by the Dutch Count Aspremont in 1824. A significant contribution to the building of the park was made by the famous Hungarian botanist and director of the university botanical garden in Budapest, Anton Rochel.

During a walk through the park, you can admire the amazing scenery of a chestnut avenue and rich pine stands, as well as a quantity of plane trees, and beautifully colored Japanese maples are not missing either. Among the most beautiful greenery in the park are magnolias, rhododendrons, roses, as well as diverse rock plants, groundsel, and climbing ivy. In addition to a small pond with a statue of the ancient god Neptune, the park is dominated by an observation tower and a Renaissance mausoleum with a domed roof and a turret.

Count Aspremont had an ancient church built in the park, surrounded by a cemetery with tasteful gravestones. The count himself is buried here, as well as his wife, for whom he had a sarcophagus made of red-veined marble constructed. A stone Gothic gate with a round guardhouse in the rear part of the park has also been preserved.

A dendrological rarity of the park is a small-leaved linden with a chest-height girth of 660 cm, whose width at ground level is a respectable 900 cm. Rare pedunculate oaks with a girth of 150–200 cm have also been preserved in abundant numbers. Another curiosity is twelve Canadian poplars imported from the Netherlands, from which all the poplars in the area originate.

In 1945, the Lednice estate was nationalized, and the manor house standing by the park was converted into a school. The village of Lednické Rovne will certainly charm you with the Slovenské sklárske múzeum museum as well, which will guide you through the history of glassmaking in the village. After visiting Botanický park, head straight to the summer swimming pool and enjoy the hot sun rays by the pools. If you like the idea of such a relaxing holiday, you can find the best accommodation near Botanický park Lednické Rovne on our accommodation in Lednické Rovne page. It is entirely up to you whether you prefer quality services in guesthouses or privacy in one of the romantic cottages.

Lednický hrad

Lednický hrad

Lednica

We invite you to the village of Lednica, above which the dominant feature of the Biele Karpaty mountains, Hrad Lednica, rises on a steep limestone cliff. In the past, Lednický hrad was among the castles with the most difficult accessibility. Today, the castle is a ruin, but extensive and intensive restoration has been taking place here since 2004, so better times are dawning for the castle. Come see the panoramic view of the Biele Karpaty and Morava and discover this place woven with history.

The first written mentions of the castle date back to 1259, but archaeological finds confirm that the cliff was inhabited as early as 2,000 years ago. The fortress was built to guard the road that led through Považie to Morava. Throughout the history of the castle, several owners took turns here. Count Marek of Lednica is mentioned among the first owners, and for a certain period, it was also owned by the powerful and feared "lord of the Váh and Tatras," Matúš Čák Trenčiansky. Other well-known owners included the Pakši family, the brothers Sobek and Matej Bielik, the Rákóczi family, the robber brothers Podmanický, as well as the Maťašovský family.

The castle consisted of three parts and was almost inaccessible. The lower outer bailey was located at the lowest level, housing defensive bastions, a prison, a room for bailiffs, a stable, a carriage room, and a blacksmith shop. The courtyard was accessed via a drawbridge and a tunnel carved into the rock.

In the courtyard of the middle castle were the main palace residential buildings for servants, utility rooms, storerooms, and the castellan's dwelling. It is assumed that during its heyday, the castle had 45 rooms and defensive towers with bastions. Perhaps the greatest attraction is the local observation post, to which a path leads up a steel ladder and stairs carved directly into the rock face.

Below the castle, you will find a spring to which a sad story is tied. On the day when the beautiful serf Katarínka was marrying the castle forester Ondrej, a boisterous celebration took place at the castle. The castle lord, a passionate count, decided that he would not accept gifts from the wedding guests, but claimed the right of the first night. The heartbroken Katarínka did not want to break her vow of fidelity and chose instead to jump from the castle window into the abyss. At the spot where she perished, a spring of water burst forth, which is named Katarínkin prameň in her honor. An interesting fact is that Jan Amos Komenský also liked to visit the spring.

Take a look at the wooden cross placed on the steep rock below the castle as well. It was erected there by the serfs as a sign of Katarínka and Ondrej's fidelity. The road from the village of Lednica and an access path leading around the spring will guide you to the castle.

After climbing to Lednický hrad, take a break and relax at the swimming pool in the nearby village of Lednické Rovne. Another great place you can visit in the area is Botanický park v Lednických Rovniach and the ruins of Vršatský hrad in Vršatské Podhradie. The region of Biele Karpaty is full of great attractions that are worth visiting. Don't hesitate and book your stay today. You can find a wide range of accommodation near the ruins of Lednický hrad castle on our page ubytovanie v Lednici.

Kaštieľ a Múzeum regiónu Bielych Karpát

Kaštieľ a Múzeum regiónu Bielych Karpát

Bohunice (okres Ilava)

A romantic manor house built in the Neo-Gothic style is an unexpected architectural gem of the tiny village of Bohunice, located on the right bank of the Váh river, not far from the town of Ilava. The museum, which is part of the property, showcases the region of the surrounding Biele Karpaty. Follow the footsteps of history to this remarkably beautiful place and let yourself be enchanted by the atmosphere that reigns here.

The first mention of the manor house dates back to 1712, but the curia acquired its present appearance in the mid-19th century. Hungarian noble families Medňanský and Kubínyi contributed to the reconstruction in the spirit of historical Romanticism between the years 1861 and 1866. To meet the needs of the noble families, Kaplnka sv. Cyrila a Metoda, serving as a family crypt, was built in the grounds with an English park and a pond. A sad story of the Kubínyi family is tied to the building. Juraj Kubínyi and his wife Jana Medňanská, who was the daughter of Alojz Medňanský, a prominent author of works such as Dejiny slovenských hradov (History of Slovak Castles) or Malebná cesta dolu Váhom (A Picturesque Journey Down the Váh), used the manor house as their family residence. After the birth of their daughter Mária, a cholera epidemic broke out in the area, claiming Jana Medňanská and her little daughter as victims in 1866. The heartbroken Juraj Kubínyi had the Neo-Gothic crypt built to lay their bodies to rest, and he himself was laid to rest there in 1902 as the last heir to Medňanský's estate. Since then, the curia changed hands, belonging for instance to Žigmund Rizner, brother of Ľudmila Podjavorinská, who allegedly wrote her famous rhymed fairytale "Čin-čin" inspired by the sparrows in the local English park.

In the 1950s, the residence was seized from the family by the regime of the time, and a library, a folk school, and a shop were established in the premises of the manor house. From 1989 onwards, the building fell into disrepair. It was not until 2010 that the necessary subsidy for reconstruction was successfully obtained, and Múzeum regiónu Bielych Karpát opened its doors in the newly renovated premises in 2012. Since the village of Bohunice does not have its own cultural hall, it also uses the manor house for cultural and social events. The grounds can also be used for weddings and wedding photo shoots.

Múzeum regiónu Bielych Karpát offers a rich array of interesting exhibitions. You will be welcomed by wax figures of prominent personalities from the MAS Vršatec project (a local action group, a civic association), such as Vojtech Zamarovský, St. Benedict, or Božena Riznerová Obrová. For nature lovers, an exhibition of animals and butterflies from the Biele Karpaty region is prepared. Motoring enthusiasts will be pleased by an exhibition of motorcycles on loan from Vlastivedné múzeum v Považskej Bystrici, documenting their production in Považské strojárne between 1947 and 2009. Last but not least, artistic souls will find their delight in the permanent exhibition Genius Loci, featuring works by Bohunice native and academic painter Ján Matejko (1919–1980). The mystery of the art of glassmaking, along with an overview of 20th-century production from the glassworks and glass museum in Lednické Rovne, will be revealed to you by the local glass exhibition. Equally beautiful art, though the art of the written word, is represented by the exhibition of Ľudmila Podjavorinská, whose works have accompanied many from childhood into adulthood. Finally, the museum also hides the antique boudoir of opera singer and actress Božena Riznerová Obrová and an extraordinary ethnographic exhibition of hemp canvas production.

After touring the interior spaces, do not forget to visit the adjacent English park with its small pond and Kaplnka sv. Cyrila a Metoda. The park is dominated by a central trio of trees, a linden, a hornbeam, and a maple, whose crowns form a heart recognizable from a distance, enhancing the magical atmosphere of this place.

Not only the village of Bohunice, but the entire region offers breathtaking places worth visiting. Find accommodation near Kaštieľ a Múzeum regiónu Bielych Karpát, for example in the surrounding guesthouses or apartments. A diverse range of accommodation is also offered by nearby picturesque villages in the foothills of Vršatecké bradlá. You are guaranteed to experience a great stay here, complemented by many memorable experiences from visiting the museum.

The history of this unique museum began to be written on the occasion of the 65th anniversary of the founding of Aeroklub Dubnica nad Váhom, during which the ceremonial opening took place on September 7, 2013. The first exhibit that the aviation museum enthusiasts managed to acquire was a Soviet-made MiG-15 fighter aircraft.

Currently, you will find 10 aircraft here coming from various corners of Slovakia. The largest exhibit is a twin-engine jet aircraft of the Soviet brand Tupolev – TU-134 of the former Czechoslovak Airlines. Súľovský hrad

Súľovský hrad

Súľov - Hradná

The ruins of Súľovský hrad are located in the Súľovské skaly, a national nature reserve, at an altitude of 660 m above sea level. Its history dates back to the 15th century. The castle served primarily for observing and protecting adjacent roads, as well as a hiding place for the valuables of local gentry and nobles. An interesting fact is that it is one of the smallest castles in Slovakia. A trip to Súľovský hrad is among the less demanding ones, and even older children can manage it.

Súľovský hrad originated in the 13th century and was originally built as a smaller castle, mentioned as the Roháč fortified settlement. It was not until 1470 that King Matthias Corvinus elevated it to a castle. In 1550, it was burned down by Rafael Podmanický, but the succeeding Sirmiensis family reconstructed it. Members of the family gradually moved out to more comfortable manor houses, and by the beginning of the 18th century, only military guards stayed here. They eventually abandoned it as well, and since then it has only fallen into decay. The work of destruction was completed by an earthquake in 1858, which severely damaged the castle.

The castle grounds consisted of an upper and lower castle, which were connected by a tunnel corridor carved into the rock. The lower castle was formed by a multi-story defensive entrance bastion. The upper part of the castle could only be entered through a very narrow opening in the rock, barely wide enough for one person, which was additionally protected by a drawbridge. It is assumed that this upper part had 18 rooms. At the highest point of the upper castle, an observation post was built with an excellent view of the wide surroundings.

To this day, only a torso of the castle and a few walls squeezed between rock towers have been preserved. Remnants of four windows and eight loop-holes are also visible. In the lower castle, you can see part of the palace with a viewing platform, and the entrance with a loop-hole carved into the rock is also noticeable. In the upper part, you will find traces of a stone staircase, part of a rainwater cistern, and a rock pylon. The ascent to the upper floor is marked by steel rings embedded in the rock, which you can hold onto if needed. A metal ladder will take you to the remains of the second floor. Here, a captivating view of the Súľovské vrchy and the valley below will open up to you.

A 6 km long educational trail starting at the parking lot below Súľovské skaly will reliably lead you to the castle. You will follow the red hiking trail and complete the entire ascent in approximately an hour and a half. Information panels with facts about the flora, fauna, and geology of the Súľovské vrchy are located along the entire length of the educational trail.

In the Súľovské skaly, you can also admire an interesting rock formation, Stratený budzogáň. After a successful hike, plan a trip to Lietavský hrad or Bytčiansky zámok. The region of Horné Považie in Severné Slovensko hides many beauties worth seeing. Book your stay and choose suitable accommodation near Súľovský hrad. For instance, stay in a comfortable guesthouse in Súľov. If you prefer privacy, you can choose from a number of cozy cabins, as well as romantic wooden cottages and stylish apartments. Bytčiansky zámok

Bytčiansky zámok

Bytča

Renesančný zámok is located in the center of the town of Bytča, which lies on the right bank of the Váh river in the Žilina region. The complex, consisting of several buildings, has indisputable architectural and historical significance and is rightfully called the jewel of northwestern Slovakia. It has been listed as a national cultural monument since 1970.

Kaštieľ v Bytči was built on the site of a smaller Gothic castle between 1571 and 1574 by František I. Turzo, founder of the Bytča-Orava branch of the Turzo family and at the same time the most powerful feudal lord in the region of northwestern Slovakia. An interesting fact is that the construction was entrusted to the Italian master Giovanni Kilián from Milan, who was elevated to the nobility after the completion of the castle, and his figure is immortalized on a fresco on the ground floor of the Renaissance building. After the death of František I. Turzo, Bytčiansky kaštieľ became the permanent residence of his son Juraj Turzo, palatine and advisor to Emperor Rudolf II, a well-known diplomat, and a supporter of Slovaks and Protestantism. In 1601, Juraj Turzo also had the so-called Sobášny palác built in the manor complex, the only one of its kind in Slovakia, serving for ceremonial family events and primarily the wedding feasts of Juraj's seven daughters. It is impressive that wedding ceremonies are still performed in the hall to this day.

The castle was the seat of administration for the Turzo estates and a center of Renaissance culture and humanistic learning until the extinction of the Turzo family line in 1635, when it fell to the Esterházy family through marriage. The Esterházy family did not make significant changes to the building, as the manor house was not their main residence. In 1868, they sold the estate to the merchant Leopold Popper, under whose ownership it declined. The indebted businessman converted the building into 12 apartments and administrative spaces. He rented these out, while the alterations to the layout and subsequent restoration work damaged, among other things, precious wall paintings in the courtyard. Finally, in 1950, Bytčiansky zámok passed into state administration and ownership. The implementation of heritage restoration began after 1960.

The manor house has a quadrangular floor plan, a central courtyard, round bastions at the corners, and a six-story entrance tower in the middle of the northern wing. Since 1955, the manor house has hosted the Štátny oblastný archív, where valuable documents are archived, such as the oldest document from 1263, coat of arms charters, the inventory of Bytčiansky zámok, and others. Remarkable is the fact that the legend-shrouded highwayman Juraj Jánošík served in the castle as a guard soldier, where he met the imprisoned highwayman Tomáš Uhorčík, who persuaded him to take up highway robbery.

Sobášny palác next to the manor house is a one-story building with a rectangular floor plan and a richly decorated facade. The large hall of Sobášny palác houses exhibition spaces of the Považské múzeum, and the permanent exhibition here serves as a reminder of the unique personality of Palatine Juraj Turzo.

The town of Bytča, as well as the entire Žilina region, offers a wealth of historical monuments, adventurous attractions, and wonderful experiences. If Bytčiansky kaštieľ and its surroundings have caught your interest, book your accommodation near Bytčiansky hrad as soon as possible.
