Botanický park - Lednické Rovne

Botanický park - Lednické Rovne

Lednické Rovne

Need a break from daily responsibilities? We have a great tip for you! Come clear your head in the Botanický park botanical park, which you can find in the area of the Renaissance manor house in Lednické Rovne. A magical green oasis of peace awaits you here. Covering an area of 20 hectares, you can view various rare plants and trees, which began to be planted as early as the beginning of the 18th century. A visit to the park will recharge your batteries and harmonize both body and soul.

Botanický park Lednické Rovne was built after the English model with various artificially created ruins of bastions, broken pillars, obelisks, and turrets, elegantly complemented by a small temple of the goddess Minerva. Its creation dates back to the second half of the 17th century, when Count František Rákoci II had one hundred linden trees planted here. Further planting and modernization of the park was continued by the Dutch Count Aspremont in 1824. A significant contribution to the building of the park was made by the famous Hungarian botanist and director of the university botanical garden in Budapest, Anton Rochel.

During a walk through the park, you can admire the amazing scenery of a chestnut avenue and rich pine stands, as well as a quantity of plane trees, and beautifully colored Japanese maples are not missing either. Among the most beautiful greenery in the park are magnolias, rhododendrons, roses, as well as diverse rock plants, groundsel, and climbing ivy. In addition to a small pond with a statue of the ancient god Neptune, the park is dominated by an observation tower and a Renaissance mausoleum with a domed roof and a turret.

Count Aspremont had an ancient church built in the park, surrounded by a cemetery with tasteful gravestones. The count himself is buried here, as well as his wife, for whom he had a sarcophagus made of red-veined marble constructed. A stone Gothic gate with a round guardhouse in the rear part of the park has also been preserved.

A dendrological rarity of the park is a small-leaved linden with a chest-height girth of 660 cm, whose width at ground level is a respectable 900 cm. Rare pedunculate oaks with a girth of 150–200 cm have also been preserved in abundant numbers. Another curiosity is twelve Canadian poplars imported from the Netherlands, from which all the poplars in the area originate.

In 1945, the Lednice estate was nationalized, and the manor house standing by the park was converted into a school. The village of Lednické Rovne will certainly charm you with the Slovenské sklárske múzeum museum as well, which will guide you through the history of glassmaking in the village. After visiting Botanický park, head straight to the summer swimming pool and enjoy the hot sun rays by the pools. If you like the idea of such a relaxing holiday, you can find the best accommodation near Botanický park Lednické Rovne on our accommodation in Lednické Rovne page. It is entirely up to you whether you prefer quality services in guesthouses or privacy in one of the romantic cottages.

Kúpele Nimnica

Kúpele Nimnica

Nimnica

Kúpele Nimnica spa is located at an altitude of 300 m a.s.l., in the valley of the Váh river, between the towns of Púchov and Považská Bystrica. It ranks among the youngest Slovak spas, with some calling it the "mineral pearl of Slovakia." Mineral springs of rather cooler water (10–15 °C) enriched with magnesium, potassium, sodium, iodine, chlorine, calcium, iron, and free carbon dioxide have a beneficial effect on the treatment of patients. They come here with indicated circulatory and digestive tract diseases, oncological diseases, metabolic and endocrine disorders, non-tubercular respiratory diseases, nervous system diseases, gynecological diseases, musculoskeletal disorders, and occupational diseases.

When clean, salty, sparkling water was discovered during the deepening of the Váh riverbed in 1953, the history of Kúpele Nimnica began to be written. Analyses and surveys were conducted to determine its composition. As workers continued to construct the Nosická vodná nádrž reservoir, they drank the gushing water. Even then, its healing effects were discovered, which water analyses only confirmed. The water has a beneficial effect both externally and internally. And although the spa has been operating for only a "few" years (since 1959) compared to older Slovak mainstays, it has rightfully earned its place as a true healing location from which people leave healthier, more energetic, and happier.

Kúpele Nimnica has found its visitors among both locals and foreigners. In fact, more and more guests from abroad visit it. The springs of healing mineral water are used for various methods. Treatment takes place in the form of drinking cures, inhalation cures, and spa treatments. The last mentioned utilizes several procedures. These include hydrotherapy, iontophoresis, physical therapy, galvanization, shortwave diathermy, sunlamp therapy, faradization, and physical exercise. An interesting technique is the method of Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy (ESWT), which is also frequently sought after by athletes. Classic, reflexology, lymphatic, honey detox, hot stone, and cupping massages are also popular. Everything is, of course, appropriately complemented by medical nutrition. The diet is adapted to the needs of individual clients, being balanced and dietary. The services of a psychologist are also available.

The medical wellness center and the salt cave are very popular among guests. The wellness center features a warm water pool, whirlpool, Kneipp bath, tepidariums, and various types of saunas. Finnish, herbal, steam, infrared, salt. Which one is your favorite? The salt cave offers another form of relaxation. It has a very specific microclimate that affects breathing and successfully helps in the fight against fatigue and stress. It is recommended for patients and visitors who have digestive tract problems, reduced thyroid activity, or suffer from dermatological conditions. And of course, it is primarily recommended as a supportive treatment for the upper and lower respiratory tracts.

A guest should leave the spa completely regenerated, which is why you can take advantage of beauty services such as hair styling, cosmetics, and pedicures. And how about making your stay at the spa not only relaxing and health-restoring, but also truly unforgettable? Specifically, we have in mind a wedding or a celebration of a major anniversary. Alternatively, there is also an option for companies, as Kúpele Nimnica has both luxurious and standard spaces available for rent, designed for various training sessions or conferences. Consider it, employees would certainly welcome such an interesting experience.

Are you worried about how to fill your free time between individual procedures? There is no need for that at all! The spa complex features a fitness center, a social pavilion, and a café. Sports-minded guests will appreciate the multifunctional sports ground, billiards, bowling, table tennis, and outdoor chess. The surroundings of Kúpele Nimnica offer plenty of enjoyment, especially for nature lovers. There are numerous cycling and hiking paths that will lead you to the nearby forest park as well as to more distant corners of the Javorníky mountains. The nearby Nosická vodná nádrž reservoir is a popular recreational area. At the reservoir, you can enjoy swimming, water sports, and fishing, or you can try a sightseeing boat cruise. Swaying on the waves, you will find that everything suddenly takes on a slightly different touch.

However, the surrounding area also offers many monuments and attractions that would be a shame to miss. In Púchov, there is a sought-after archaeological museum and a wheel museum, while in Lednické Rovne, you will find the Slovenské sklárske múzeum (Slovak Glass Museum). Following the traces of glass production, for which this region is renowned, is a real experience. Ilava is known not only for its prison, but also for its beautiful manor house, which is home to another museum. Trenčín is famous for its dominant landmark, which many admire right from the highway, naturally, we are talking about the medieval Trenčiansky hrad castle.

Book your accommodation in the surroundings of Kúpele Nimnica and come discover the beauty of the Trenčín region for yourself. From your stay, you will bring home not only stronger health, perhaps a new friendship or love, but also many experiences. Kaštieľ a Múzeum regiónu Bielych Karpát

Kaštieľ a Múzeum regiónu Bielych Karpát

Bohunice (okres Ilava)

A romantic manor house built in the Neo-Gothic style is an unexpected architectural gem of the tiny village of Bohunice, located on the right bank of the Váh river, not far from the town of Ilava. The museum, which is part of the property, showcases the region of the surrounding Biele Karpaty. Follow the footsteps of history to this remarkably beautiful place and let yourself be enchanted by the atmosphere that reigns here.

The first mention of the manor house dates back to 1712, but the curia acquired its present appearance in the mid-19th century. Hungarian noble families Medňanský and Kubínyi contributed to the reconstruction in the spirit of historical Romanticism between the years 1861 and 1866. To meet the needs of the noble families, Kaplnka sv. Cyrila a Metoda, serving as a family crypt, was built in the grounds with an English park and a pond. A sad story of the Kubínyi family is tied to the building. Juraj Kubínyi and his wife Jana Medňanská, who was the daughter of Alojz Medňanský, a prominent author of works such as Dejiny slovenských hradov (History of Slovak Castles) or Malebná cesta dolu Váhom (A Picturesque Journey Down the Váh), used the manor house as their family residence. After the birth of their daughter Mária, a cholera epidemic broke out in the area, claiming Jana Medňanská and her little daughter as victims in 1866. The heartbroken Juraj Kubínyi had the Neo-Gothic crypt built to lay their bodies to rest, and he himself was laid to rest there in 1902 as the last heir to Medňanský's estate. Since then, the curia changed hands, belonging for instance to Žigmund Rizner, brother of Ľudmila Podjavorinská, who allegedly wrote her famous rhymed fairytale "Čin-čin" inspired by the sparrows in the local English park.

In the 1950s, the residence was seized from the family by the regime of the time, and a library, a folk school, and a shop were established in the premises of the manor house. From 1989 onwards, the building fell into disrepair. It was not until 2010 that the necessary subsidy for reconstruction was successfully obtained, and Múzeum regiónu Bielych Karpát opened its doors in the newly renovated premises in 2012. Since the village of Bohunice does not have its own cultural hall, it also uses the manor house for cultural and social events. The grounds can also be used for weddings and wedding photo shoots.

Múzeum regiónu Bielych Karpát offers a rich array of interesting exhibitions. You will be welcomed by wax figures of prominent personalities from the MAS Vršatec project (a local action group, a civic association), such as Vojtech Zamarovský, St. Benedict, or Božena Riznerová Obrová. For nature lovers, an exhibition of animals and butterflies from the Biele Karpaty region is prepared. Motoring enthusiasts will be pleased by an exhibition of motorcycles on loan from Vlastivedné múzeum v Považskej Bystrici, documenting their production in Považské strojárne between 1947 and 2009. Last but not least, artistic souls will find their delight in the permanent exhibition Genius Loci, featuring works by Bohunice native and academic painter Ján Matejko (1919–1980). The mystery of the art of glassmaking, along with an overview of 20th-century production from the glassworks and glass museum in Lednické Rovne, will be revealed to you by the local glass exhibition. Equally beautiful art, though the art of the written word, is represented by the exhibition of Ľudmila Podjavorinská, whose works have accompanied many from childhood into adulthood. Finally, the museum also hides the antique boudoir of opera singer and actress Božena Riznerová Obrová and an extraordinary ethnographic exhibition of hemp canvas production.

After touring the interior spaces, do not forget to visit the adjacent English park with its small pond and Kaplnka sv. Cyrila a Metoda. The park is dominated by a central trio of trees, a linden, a hornbeam, and a maple, whose crowns form a heart recognizable from a distance, enhancing the magical atmosphere of this place.

Not only the village of Bohunice, but the entire region offers breathtaking places worth visiting. Find accommodation near Kaštieľ a Múzeum regiónu Bielych Karpát, for example in the surrounding guesthouses or apartments. A diverse range of accommodation is also offered by nearby picturesque villages in the foothills of Vršatecké bradlá. You are guaranteed to experience a great stay here, complemented by many memorable experiences from visiting the museum.

Nosice

Nosice

Považská Bystrica

The Vodná nádrž Nosice water reservoir extends over an area of nearly 6 kilometers in the Trenčiansky kraj between the towns of Púchov and Považská Bystrica. It is also part of the Vážska kaskáda, a set of dams built on the Váh river, such as Liptovská Mara, the Bešeňová water reservoir, or Sĺňava. The Nosice reservoir is also known by many under the name Priehrada mládeže. This water body abounds with a beautiful natural surroundings and scenery that is enjoyed not only by local residents.

The Vodná nádrž Nosice water reservoir is the oldest dam on the Váh. Its construction began as early as 1949. The hydroelectric power plant, which is part of the dam wall, was built somewhat later, in 1957. Like other reservoirs on the Váh, it serves primarily to balance the water flow in the longest Slovak river and also to prevent floods in surrounding towns and villages.

The Nosice water body does not have a recreational center and is not all that well known. Nevertheless, people like to use it, for example, for boating, windsurfing, and in some places even for swimming. Cyclists, in turn, like to ride their bikes along the reservoir and admire the views of the surrounding hills of the Javorníky mountain range. The interesting S-shape makes the Nosice reservoir a popular trip not only for cyclists but also for lovers of long walks.

During the excavation of the Vodná nádrž Nosice near the village of Nimnica, water that was salty and fizzy was accidentally discovered. Upon examination, it was found to be a rare mineral spring with healing effects, and thus the youngest Slovak spa of the same name, Nimnica, was also established. You can find the spa on the southern side of the reservoir near the dam wall and the Nosice power plant.

Cyprinid fish thrive very well in the Vodná nádrž Nosice water reservoir. Fishermen can catch pike-perch, bream, eels, carp, and pike here. The fishing ground is designated as the Pod Dubovcom ground and extends from the Orlové city part of Považská Bystrica all the way to the Upohlav part of the village of Udiča. The quiet environment and magnificent surrounding nature make this reservoir an ideal place for a good fishing trip.

Lednický hrad

Lednický hrad

Lednica

We invite you to the village of Lednica, above which the dominant feature of the Biele Karpaty mountains, Hrad Lednica, rises on a steep limestone cliff. In the past, Lednický hrad was among the castles with the most difficult accessibility. Today, the castle is a ruin, but extensive and intensive restoration has been taking place here since 2004, so better times are dawning for the castle. Come see the panoramic view of the Biele Karpaty and Morava and discover this place woven with history.

The first written mentions of the castle date back to 1259, but archaeological finds confirm that the cliff was inhabited as early as 2,000 years ago. The fortress was built to guard the road that led through Považie to Morava. Throughout the history of the castle, several owners took turns here. Count Marek of Lednica is mentioned among the first owners, and for a certain period, it was also owned by the powerful and feared "lord of the Váh and Tatras," Matúš Čák Trenčiansky. Other well-known owners included the Pakši family, the brothers Sobek and Matej Bielik, the Rákóczi family, the robber brothers Podmanický, as well as the Maťašovský family.

The castle consisted of three parts and was almost inaccessible. The lower outer bailey was located at the lowest level, housing defensive bastions, a prison, a room for bailiffs, a stable, a carriage room, and a blacksmith shop. The courtyard was accessed via a drawbridge and a tunnel carved into the rock.

In the courtyard of the middle castle were the main palace residential buildings for servants, utility rooms, storerooms, and the castellan's dwelling. It is assumed that during its heyday, the castle had 45 rooms and defensive towers with bastions. Perhaps the greatest attraction is the local observation post, to which a path leads up a steel ladder and stairs carved directly into the rock face.

Below the castle, you will find a spring to which a sad story is tied. On the day when the beautiful serf Katarínka was marrying the castle forester Ondrej, a boisterous celebration took place at the castle. The castle lord, a passionate count, decided that he would not accept gifts from the wedding guests, but claimed the right of the first night. The heartbroken Katarínka did not want to break her vow of fidelity and chose instead to jump from the castle window into the abyss. At the spot where she perished, a spring of water burst forth, which is named Katarínkin prameň in her honor. An interesting fact is that Jan Amos Komenský also liked to visit the spring.

Take a look at the wooden cross placed on the steep rock below the castle as well. It was erected there by the serfs as a sign of Katarínka and Ondrej's fidelity. The road from the village of Lednica and an access path leading around the spring will guide you to the castle.

After climbing to Lednický hrad, take a break and relax at the swimming pool in the nearby village of Lednické Rovne. Another great place you can visit in the area is Botanický park v Lednických Rovniach and the ruins of Vršatský hrad in Vršatské Podhradie. The region of Biele Karpaty is full of great attractions that are worth visiting. Don't hesitate and book your stay today. You can find a wide range of accommodation near the ruins of Lednický hrad castle on our page ubytovanie v Lednici.

Kúpele Trenčianske Teplice

Trenčianske Teplice

The spa town of Trenčianske Teplice is located in Western Slovakia, in the valley of the Teplička stream, southwest of the Strážovské vrchy mountains. The town lies near the border with the Czech Republic, south of Dubnica nad Váhom and northeast of Trenčín. Thanks to its location in the middle of nature, the town is also referred to as the "Pearl of the Carpathians". The long-standing spa tradition is based mainly on the use of natural sulfur thermal water. All spa buildings stand in the center of town, so there is no need to commute more than 300 meters for treatments.

The Trenčianske Teplice spa ranks not only among the most sought-after Slovak spas, but also among the oldest. According to legend, the healing springs were discovered by a shepherd who was looking for a lost goat and smelled a sulfur odor from a nearby pond. He soaked his aching feet in the pond and experienced relief from the pain. Gradually, rumor of the healing water spread in the area. However, it is likely that the springs and their effects were known even before, probably known to the hunting tribes of the Quadi or Roman legions in the 2nd century. In written records, the healing effects of the local water are mentioned as early as the mid-13th century. From the 13th to the 16th century, Trenčianske Teplice, including the springs, belonged to the rulers of Trenčiansky hrad. The spa experienced its greatest boom during the time of the Illésházy family, who owned it for more than two centuries. During that period, the spa ranked among the most popular in Austria-Hungary. The year 1835 was a breakthrough for the spa when it was bought by the Viennese financier Juraj Sina, who modernized and rebuilt it. His family continued further reconstruction; his son Šimon had a hotel built and expanded the spa park, while his daughter Iphigenia contributed in 1888 by constructing the Hammam in an Oriental Moorish style, which remains the most precious historical monument preserved to this day.

The foundation of the treatment is natural thermal gypsum-sulfur water. Thanks to a temperature of 37 to 40 °C, it does not need to undergo any modification, cooling, or transport. This contributes to enhancing the therapeutic effect, as hydrogen sulfide, which the local thermal water contains, quickly escapes into the air specifically during heating, cooling, or transport. Spa guests can enjoy the thermal water in five pools with various temperatures as well as in individual tub baths. Sulfur mineral mud is also used in treatments, along with numerous movement therapy methods. Musculoskeletal disorders, neurological diseases, occupational diseases, lifestyle diseases, and skin conditions, including psoriasis, are treated here. The water of one of the springs acts favorably on diseases of the digestive tract and metabolism through drinking cures.

In addition to medical procedures, visitors can also use the year-round outdoor Grand pool with a water temperature of 31 °C, a rehabilitation pool with water bicycles, or a swimming pool. The Turkish bath Hammam, built on the model of authentic oriental baths from the late 19th century, is very popular and features beautiful oriental architecture. In the past, the Hammam was used for tub baths, while today it serves as a relaxation room and a space for massages.

Trenčianske Teplice boasts a beautiful park that can be enjoyed not only for walks but also for cycling. In summer, the Spa Hall is a venue for concerts. Since 2016, the spa has been the venue for the multi-genre arts festival ART IN PARK, an artistic project that combines film, theater, music, and fine arts, designed for all age groups.

The location of Trenčianske Teplice is ideal for exploring not only natural beauty but also the cultural monuments of the Považie region. Just 7 km from the spa is the Opatovská jaskyňa cave. The Soblahov - Dúbravka lookout tower provides the best view in the area. The largest cultural attraction is Trenčiansky hrad castle, and in Trenčín, you will also find a museum, gallery, House of the Town Executioner, town tower, and synagogue. For active visitors, we can recommend the Tarzánia rope park in Trenčín in addition to walks in nature.

A proper spa stay lasts at least three days, which is why you will need accommodation near the Trenčianske Teplice spa. Directly in the town center, where the spa buildings are located, you can book apartments, family guesthouses, budget hostels, and, of course, hotels. If you prefer privacy, focus your search on areas outside the center or the surroundings of Trenčianske Teplice, where you will come across cozy cottages and chalets.

Slovenský Betlehem

Slovenský Betlehem

Rajecká Lesná

Slovenský betlehem is a masterpiece by the woodcarver Jozef Pekar. You can admire it in the Žilina district, in Rajecká Lesná, more precisely in the House of God's Mercy (sometimes referred to as the House of the Nativity of Christ). Its name is not accidental; in addition to the commonly depicted birth of Christ, it also portrays the history of the Slovak nation. Besides the best-known sceneries that are inextricably linked with Slovakia, master Pekar also captured the everyday life of Slovaks in the past.

What is fascinating is that the betlehem is not static, but the figures move, thereby adding to the overall authenticity of the masterpiece. This also enables people who do not like reading about history and customs to absorb this interesting part of our history. Because just as children stand in awe and with open mouths in front of Slovenský betlehem, adults often stand there with bated breath as well.

Jozef Pekar began working on this woodcarving masterpiece after his retirement in 1980. It took him a long 15 years to complete it. The work was ceremonially opened to the public on November 26, 1995, back then still without the Eastern Slovak and Western Slovak regions. However, those were carved and added to the work in subsequent years. Every Slovak location is blessed. The dimensions of the betlehem are 8.5 m in length, 2.5 m in width, and 3 m in height. Altogether, there are about 300 figures on the area, of which approximately half are static and the other half move. Some are working, others are having fun. If you look closely, you will even see a bear running by.

Rajecký betlehem, as locals sometimes call it, is a rarity towards which people from all over our country head daily. However, the work is so well known that it is nothing unusual to hear another national language around it. It ranks among the largest wooden carved betlehems in all of Europe. The building where Slovenský betlehem is located also exhibits woodcarvings by other Rajecká Dolina woodcarvers, be sure to check those out as well. They are located on the first floor.

If the wooden betlehem has caught your interest, we recommend planning a multi-day trip right away and combining it with a visit to other attractions. You can easily find accommodation near Slovenský betlehem on our portal. The accommodation in Rajecká Lesná subpage has a truly diverse offer, and everyone is sure to find something. Finally, we will give you a small tip: visit the Frivaldská kalvária, beneath which a healing spring flows.

Trenčiansky hrad

Trenčiansky hrad

Trenčín

Laugaricio. The Latin name that almost every Slovak knows. This speech, which is now almost dead, reached our territory in ancient times, and Trenčín is one of the proofs. Specifically, the castle rock, on which one of the most famous castles ever towers. Its silhouette is known even to small children, and it would be a pity not to know something more about it.

A fortified settlement stood on the castle cliff even earlier. The present-day castle was built in its place. The first was a rotunda and later a defensive tower. The first documented data on the existence of the castle date back to the 9th century, making it one of the older castles. Like one of many castles on the Považie region, it had an extremely important defensive role. It protected the entire western border of Uhorsko.

Let us go back in time by several centuries. A Roman inscription from 179 proclaiming the victory of the Romans over the Germans is still preserved on the castle cliff. The entire castle, including this historical rarity, was controlled by the most famous ruler, the lord of Váh and the Tatras, Matúš Čák. He is rightly nicknamed Trenčiansky. He gave the castle new fortifications, and the tower bears his name.

No ruler lives forever. Not even Matúš Čák Trenčiansky. The castle was also managed by other famous names such as Žigmund Luxemburský or Štefan Zápoľský. Hussite expeditions from the west and Turkish attacks from the south were the cause of further expansion of the castle. In this period of the fifteenth century, extensive walls were also created, which you can find at the castle to this day. Until then, the castle was characterized mainly by Gothic verticality, but under the influence of reconstructions, the castle developed rather in a horizontal direction.

Unfortunately, the destruction of the castle was caused, as is customary, by a fire. It even engulfed the city. The year was 1790. The castle had to wait for its restoration until the 19th century, when the conservation of the castle walls took place.

The castle became only a ruin. After many repairs and long years of work, the castle is open to the public today. You will find more than enough in its premises. The huge picture gallery or the exhibition of period furniture is attractive. If you suffer from vertigo, skip the tour of Matúšova veža tower. And the rest of you boldly to the top! A beautiful view of the Váh valley, Považie, Považský Inovec, and of course the entire city will take your breath away. It is useless to write anything more; you must see this.

After the castle tour, drop into one of the cafes in the night streets of Trenčín. The pleasant atmosphere and touch of romance in the city of fashion is tailor-made for a romantic weekend for two. You can find your temporary nest of love in one of the hotels or guesthouses directly in the city center. With friends or family, you can choose from the offer of many cheap private accommodations scattered not only in Trenčín but also its close surroundings. Only the last thing remains. You.

Kúpele Piešťany

Kúpele Piešťany

Piešťany

Kúpele Piešťany can be found in the Považie region in the Trnava Region in Southern Slovakia. The town of Piešťany, surrounded by the Malé Karpaty and Považský Inovec mountain ranges, has become a sought-after destination for domestic and foreign guests. The spa is located on an island lying on the Váh river. The Spa Island (Kúpeľný ostrov) is full of greenery and beautifully maintained gardens, attracting visitors not only with its architecture but also with its unique atmosphere and cultural opportunities.

Social life here is rich. Famous personalities love to visit the spa, and various cultural events and exhibitions take place here. Coffee shops and restaurants are filled with people, and you can taste exceptional specialties. Through its professionalism and unique treatment methods, it has won over visitors from overseas, maharajas, sheikhs, and even famous artists such as Alphonse Mucha.

The history of the Piešťany spa dates back to the 16th century, when the first mentions of the healing effects of mud emerging. In the 19th century, wealthy nobles built the first pool baths on their land. However, Kúpele Piešťany experienced its greatest boom when the Winter brothers leased it.

Ľudovít Winter was only 20 years old when his father put him in charge of managing the spa. Young blood proved its worth. Together with his brother, they gradually built stylish hotels, invited talented doctors to Piešťany, and laid the foundation for the Balneologické múzeum. As a symbol of successful cures, they had a statue of a man breaking a crutch erected here, which stands in front of the entrance to the sanatorium.

The Piešťany spa has a 200-year tradition. Patients with rheumatism, musculoskeletal disorders, spine conditions, scoliosis, and post-injury or post-surgery conditions are treated here. Treatment for skin conditions and nervous system disorders is also successful.

Spa treatment relies primarily on thermal mineral water and healing sulfur mud. The water, which gushes from a depth of 2,000 meters, has a temperature of around 67 to 69 degrees. It contains a high proportion of sulfur, which has a beneficial effect on the musculoskeletal system. Sulfur mud positively affects joint diseases, reduces inflammation, and increases joint mobility. It is used either as a bath, a mud pool (bahenisko) in which the patient sits, or through mud wraps applied at a temperature of around 45 degrees. Up to 60 kilograms of mud are used for a single wrap.

Kúpele Piešťany offers as many as 60 types of procedures. These include balneotherapy, pool baths, bubble baths, carbonated tub or dry carbonated gas baths, Scottish douches, electrotherapy, light therapy, laser therapy, and many others. Various types of massages and acupuncture are available. Outdoor and indoor pools, as well as a sauna world, are a matter of course.

Part of the treatment includes rehabilitation, yoga practice, individual physical exercise, a rehabilitation path, and even Nordic walking. Here you can make use of a fitness center, sports grounds, tennis courts, or the Golf & Country Club golf course, which is located directly on the Spa Island and was the first golf course established in Slovakia.

If you choose to relax in Piešťany, in addition to the Spa Island, we also recommend a sightseeing boat cruise on the Váh river across the Sĺňava reservoir. It starts from the Kolonádový most bridge in Piešťany. We have prepared more excursion tips in the surroundings of the town for you on our portal. Upon entering, the fountain in the courtyard of the manor house will catch your eye. The manor house is considered the most beautiful example of rural Neoclassical architecture in Slovakia. Its owners at the time, the Brunswick family, made not only the manor house famous, but also the village of Dolná Krupá through their artistic collections of paintings, books, and minerals. The manor house even featured a theater building. The Brunswicks were lovers of art and music. Ludwig van Beethoven himself taught their daughters to play the piano right inside the manor house. Due to his non-noble origin, the composer stayed in a garden house rather than with the nobility in the main house. The Ludwig van Beethoven Memorial is part of the garden. During the tour of the manor house, you will also take a look into the music museum.

The Brunswick family, and later the Chotek family, was the last to experience the great glory of the manor house. This opulent residence, where high society used to gather, began to decline from the time of World War I. The aforementioned park once enjoyed great popularity for its flora. Among the last to reside in the manor house, until the mid-20th century, was Countess Maria Henrietta Chotek, who created a magnificent rose garden in the park that was the largest in Central Europe. The original park also featured three lakes. Unfortunately, only the original torso is preserved today. The manor house has undergone an extensive reconstruction, which delights not only the residents of Dolná Krupá.

Take advantage of this beautiful setting and surroundings, which offer opportunities for walks and outdoor activities. Come for a walk to the nearby Trnavské rybníky protected area, which is known for birdwatching over 200 species of birds. Looking for a summer refreshment? The Suchá nad Parnou water reservoir in the nearby village of the same name is a spot for total relaxation and soaking up the sun's rays. Additional services include Hippotherapy, which is designed primarily for disabled or special-needs children. Therapeutic horseback riding has a positive effect on congenital movement, balance, and coordination disorders.

Your little ones will be especially delighted by the mini-farm. You will be welcomed by sheep, Cameroon goats, Chinese pigs, geese, a rooster with hens, a donkey family, and a peacock with a peahen. Here you can also check out an insect hotel, which is home to butterflies, little beetles, and solitary forest bees.

Súľovský hrad

Súľovský hrad

Súľov - Hradná

The ruins of Súľovský hrad are located in the Súľovské skaly, a national nature reserve, at an altitude of 660 m above sea level. Its history dates back to the 15th century. The castle served primarily for observing and protecting adjacent roads, as well as a hiding place for the valuables of local gentry and nobles. An interesting fact is that it is one of the smallest castles in Slovakia. A trip to Súľovský hrad is among the less demanding ones, and even older children can manage it.

Súľovský hrad originated in the 13th century and was originally built as a smaller castle, mentioned as the Roháč fortified settlement. It was not until 1470 that King Matthias Corvinus elevated it to a castle. In 1550, it was burned down by Rafael Podmanický, but the succeeding Sirmiensis family reconstructed it. Members of the family gradually moved out to more comfortable manor houses, and by the beginning of the 18th century, only military guards stayed here. They eventually abandoned it as well, and since then it has only fallen into decay. The work of destruction was completed by an earthquake in 1858, which severely damaged the castle.

The castle grounds consisted of an upper and lower castle, which were connected by a tunnel corridor carved into the rock. The lower castle was formed by a multi-story defensive entrance bastion. The upper part of the castle could only be entered through a very narrow opening in the rock, barely wide enough for one person, which was additionally protected by a drawbridge. It is assumed that this upper part had 18 rooms. At the highest point of the upper castle, an observation post was built with an excellent view of the wide surroundings.

To this day, only a torso of the castle and a few walls squeezed between rock towers have been preserved. Remnants of four windows and eight loop-holes are also visible. In the lower castle, you can see part of the palace with a viewing platform, and the entrance with a loop-hole carved into the rock is also noticeable. In the upper part, you will find traces of a stone staircase, part of a rainwater cistern, and a rock pylon. The ascent to the upper floor is marked by steel rings embedded in the rock, which you can hold onto if needed. A metal ladder will take you to the remains of the second floor. Here, a captivating view of the Súľovské vrchy and the valley below will open up to you.

A 6 km long educational trail starting at the parking lot below Súľovské skaly will reliably lead you to the castle. You will follow the red hiking trail and complete the entire ascent in approximately an hour and a half. Information panels with facts about the flora, fauna, and geology of the Súľovské vrchy are located along the entire length of the educational trail.

In the Súľovské skaly, you can also admire an interesting rock formation, Stratený budzogáň. After a successful hike, plan a trip to Lietavský hrad or Bytčiansky zámok. The region of Horné Považie in Severné Slovensko hides many beauties worth seeing. Book your stay and choose suitable accommodation near Súľovský hrad. For instance, stay in a comfortable guesthouse in Súľov. If you prefer privacy, you can choose from a number of cozy cabins, as well as romantic wooden cottages and stylish apartments. While planning trips around the area, our page kam na výlet v Súľove - Hradnej will certainly come in handy.

The southwestern sector is smaller and measures 22 m. Even though it is a karst formation, you would look for karst decorations here in vain. The cave terminates in a clay plug.

Its permanent residents include various species of cave spiders and bats. In the winter months, the interior transforms into an ice palace covered in icicles. Opatovská jaskyňa was declared a natural monument in 1994. You can combine a visit to the cave with a walk along Náučný chodník Benediktínskymi cestami, which features 8 information boards. Bytčiansky zámok

Bytčiansky zámok

Bytča

Renesančný zámok is located in the center of the town of Bytča, which lies on the right bank of the Váh river in the Žilina region. The complex, consisting of several buildings, has indisputable architectural and historical significance and is rightfully called the jewel of northwestern Slovakia. It has been listed as a national cultural monument since 1970.

Kaštieľ v Bytči was built on the site of a smaller Gothic castle between 1571 and 1574 by František I. Turzo, founder of the Bytča-Orava branch of the Turzo family and at the same time the most powerful feudal lord in the region of northwestern Slovakia. An interesting fact is that the construction was entrusted to the Italian master Giovanni Kilián from Milan, who was elevated to the nobility after the completion of the castle, and his figure is immortalized on a fresco on the ground floor of the Renaissance building. After the death of František I. Turzo, Bytčiansky kaštieľ became the permanent residence of his son Juraj Turzo, palatine and advisor to Emperor Rudolf II, a well-known diplomat, and a supporter of Slovaks and Protestantism. In 1601, Juraj Turzo also had the so-called Sobášny palác built in the manor complex, the only one of its kind in Slovakia, serving for ceremonial family events and primarily the wedding feasts of Juraj's seven daughters. It is impressive that wedding ceremonies are still performed in the hall to this day.

The castle was the seat of administration for the Turzo estates and a center of Renaissance culture and humanistic learning until the extinction of the Turzo family line in 1635, when it fell to the Esterházy family through marriage. The Esterházy family did not make significant changes to the building, as the manor house was not their main residence. In 1868, they sold the estate to the merchant Leopold Popper, under whose ownership it declined. The indebted businessman converted the building into 12 apartments and administrative spaces. He rented these out, while the alterations to the layout and subsequent restoration work damaged, among other things, precious wall paintings in the courtyard. Finally, in 1950, Bytčiansky zámok passed into state administration and ownership. The implementation of heritage restoration began after 1960.

The manor house has a quadrangular floor plan, a central courtyard, round bastions at the corners, and a six-story entrance tower in the middle of the northern wing. Since 1955, the manor house has hosted the Štátny oblastný archív, where valuable documents are archived, such as the oldest document from 1263, coat of arms charters, the inventory of Bytčiansky zámok, and others. Remarkable is the fact that the legend-shrouded highwayman Juraj Jánošík served in the castle as a guard soldier, where he met the imprisoned highwayman Tomáš Uhorčík, who persuaded him to take up highway robbery.

Sobášny palác next to the manor house is a one-story building with a rectangular floor plan and a richly decorated facade. The large hall of Sobášny palác houses exhibition spaces of the Považské múzeum, and the permanent exhibition here serves as a reminder of the unique personality of Palatine Juraj Turzo.

The town of Bytča, as well as the entire Žilina region, offers a wealth of historical monuments, adventurous attractions, and wonderful experiences. If Bytčiansky kaštieľ and its surroundings have caught your interest, book your accommodation near Bytčiansky hrad as soon as possible. Rajecké Teplice

Kúpele Rajecké Teplice lie on the road between the town of Rajec and Žilina, near the tourist area of Súľovské skaly. These important Slovak spa resorts are sought after by patients with musculoskeletal and nervous system disorders. Thanks to healing mineral water, the spa provides its guests not only with perfect relaxation but also successful treatment.

The first mentions of the healing effects of the mineral spring in Rajecké Teplice date back to the past. The ruler of the nearby Lietavské panstvo, Juraj Turzo, had the first Kúpeľný dom built here as early as 1610. His friends, whom he invited here, met and recreated here. After his death, the spa was closed and the property distributed among the heirs. The spa was restored only in the 18th century, when lords from the imperial Viennese court began to meet here. During this period, the railway on the Rajec - Žilina line was also built, which passed through Rajecké Teplice and supplied them at the same time.

At the beginning of the 20th century, the spa came under the judicial administration of Ladislav Hauser, who later bought it as an administrator. He established a school for children from Teplice here so they would not have to commute far. The first spa doctor, MUDr. Rudolf Flamm, also worked here, providing treatment to local residents for free. During World War I, however, the spa declined, and part of it was additionally destroyed by a flood.

Only with the change of owner in 1925 did the construction of spa houses begin and Kúpele Rajecké Teplice acquired the form in which we know them today. In 1989, Rajecké Teplice received town status. Sports grounds, parks, and a department store were built. In the famous small town, which is incidentally the 4th smallest in Slovakia, the statue „Žena po kúpeli“ was also installed to represent it.

From neurological diseases, patients after infantile paralysis, people with Parkinson's disease, and people with occupational diseases are treated here.

Among the most effective spa treatments is balneotherapy with mineral water. They use the warm 38-degree hydrogencarbonate-calcium-magnesium water without further adjustments. In addition to healing power, it also has analgesic effects, it relieves pain. Other procedures include physiotherapy, laser therapy, induction therapy, and water tractions. Part of the treatment procedures is group spinal exercise and yoga.

The spa has several types of pools at its disposal. You will find a mineral-thermal pool, relaxation, rehabilitation, and swimming pool, as well as a Turkish bath, the alternation of hot and cold water of which strengthens the heart and immunity. The sauna world that the spa possesses will certainly pleasantly surprise you. The Finnish, herbal, menthol, Arabic, or salt sauna will not only warm your bones but relax your entire body. You can also relax with one of the massages or let yourself be pampered during a beauty procedure.

Lietavský hrad

Lietavský hrad

Lietava

Lietavský hrad is the largest castle structure in Slovakia. It stretches across a castle hill above the village of Lietava, in the Žilina Region. In addition to the beautiful scenery of these ruins and a breathtaking view of the surrounding mountain ranges, its excellent location is a major attraction for visitors. The castle is situated just 10 km south of the regional capital of Žilina. It has thus become a popular excursion spot for holidaymakers heading from Terchová or the Kysuce region to Rajecké Teplice.

Lietavský hrad was built at the end of the 13th century on a rocky ridge of the Súľovská vrchovina highlands. Originally, it was likely a smaller palace and a four-storey square tower from which a rampart extended. It is assumed that the construction was initiated by the Balaša family. At the beginning of the 14th century, it was occupied by the famous Matúš Čák; later, the castle became royal property and was assigned to palatines and dukes. In the following years, Lietava changed hands several times among lords who contributed to its reconstruction in various ways. Since the mid-18th century, the castle has been abandoned, and after 250 years, it has turned into a ruin.

They say that anyone who has experienced a sunset or sunrise at Lietavský hrad has no doubt that it is one of the most beautiful places in our country. It is precisely the enchanting view that makes the castle hill above Lietava such a great attraction. After a short and easy ascent, you will have the Strážovské vrchy mountains, as well as the Malá Fatra and Veľká Fatra mountain ranges, in the palm of your hand. Your backdrop will be a ruin bearing witness to times long past, whose walls still carry rare architectural details today. To the south of the tower, you can see the castle's fifth gate, residential buildings, and a Late Gothic palace. To the north lies the outer bailey, parallel to which stretches another outer bailey with artillery bastions and a Renaissance entrance gate. The exhibition area dedicated to the history of Lietavský hrad, archaeological finds, and firearms has been open here since 2017. It is located in the Stredný palác.

You can reach the castle along marked hiking trails from the villages of Lietava and Lietavská Svinná. Depending on the chosen route, the ascent takes between 30 and 60 minutes. The castle grounds are open to visitors continuously. The exhibition area located in the Stredný palác and the Kinižiho tower are open to the public irregularly, mostly during weekends and public holidays. We recommend checking the opening hours by phone.

If you pass near Žilina during your holiday travels, be sure to accept an invitation to the castle hill towering over Lietava. Enjoy the magnificent view in the atmosphere of a historic site that has blended perfectly with the surrounding nature. You can combine a trip here with a visit to the Kúpele Rajecké Teplice spa or a hike beneath Žibrid hill to mother nature's splendid sculptural creation, the Stratený budzogáň. Or would you prefer relaxing by the pool at Kúpalisko Žilina? The holiday options here are truly diverse, much like the offer of accommodation near Lietavský hrad. Kuneradský zámok

Kuneradský zámok

Kunerad

Kuneradský zámok is situated at the mouth of the Svitačová dolina valley, near the village of Kunerad. Standing guard over the valley at an altitude of 600 m above sea level, its surroundings are adorned with picturesque nature. Two fires in recent years damaged the chateau so severely that it is currently closed to the public. Despite this, it remains a frequently visited tourist attraction in the Rajecká dolina valley, mainly because hiking trails leading to the popular peaks of the Lúčanská part of Malá Fatra pass right next to it.

The new owners, who live in Switzerland, are striving to save the chateau and preserve this treasure for future generations. The ongoing restoration work can be observed from the adjacent chateau park and meadows, where you can enjoy a pleasant family walk. In the park, you will also find the Pamätník SNP (SNP Monument), which was renovated for the public in 2020.

Kuneradský zámok saw the light of day in 1912, originally serving as a hunting lodge for Count Ballestrem and his family, who used it primarily during the hunting season. The chateau was built with elements of French Art Nouveau. Towers, arcades, terraces, and exterior staircases gave this romantic building its charming appearance. The interior was also lavishly furnished, and the chateau even had its own water-powered power plant. The Count's family also established a chapel inside the chateau. During the Slovak National Uprising, the chateau was occupied by partisans and subsequently burned down by the Fascists. After reconstruction, the premises served as a treatment facility for the nearby Kúpele Rajecké Teplice spa.

You will surely be pleased to know that you can find pleasant accommodation near Kuneradský zámok. Cottages and guesthouses in Rajecké Teplice will fulfill your expectations to the point. Dom mestského kata

Dom mestského kata

Trenčín

Welcome to the most terrifying house in Trenčín. A romantic alley paved with cobblestones that leads right underneath Trenčiansky hrad will bring you to Katov domu, where people were cruelly tortured in the Middle Ages. Terrifying things took place on the premises of this Renaissance burgher house, during which many innocent people lost their lives. However, justice also caught up with the executioner Stanislav Chrbinský himself, who was executed himself for stealing church collection boxes.

The executioner's house was built as a stone house around 1607, divided into living quarters, an economic part, and a kitchen. It is assumed that the executioner lived on the upper floor, there was a prison on the ground floor, and in the dark, damp cellar, there was a dungeon where the condemned awaited execution. Trenčín used the services of the city executioner until 1790.

Currently, there are three exhibitions located here. The first of them bears the name „Majster spravodlivosti - kat“ and will guide you through the objects of municipal justice and torture law. The exhibition consists of a terrifying executioner's sword, a pillory where heads were severed, as well as a rack, a wooden horse (dereš), and a breaking wheel. The worst execution was when the condemned was tied up, laid on the ground, and the executioner chopped him into four pieces with a sword. Another horrific death occurred when a prisoner was tied between four horses and torn apart this way. In addition to torture tools, you will also find halberds and uniforms of the city guards, the uniform of the city police captain, their rifles, and sabers.

The next exhibition, „Remeslo, cechy a cechové zariadenie“, is more pleasant and brings closer the activities of guilds in the territory of the Trenčiansky kraj region. Here you can admire craft creations as well as artistic and historical objects. The final part of the exhibition, „Mešťania, ako žili...“, showcases the housing and everyday life of the inhabitants of Trenčín from 1850 to the interwar period. It consists of valuables, various parts of clothing, a ladies' cosmetic case, and an unconventional medical tool. a bloodletting needle.

Trenčín ranks among the largest Slovak cities and is a popular destination not only for Slovak but also for foreign tourists. Plan trips around the surroundings and discover other great attractions in Trenčín. After this unconventional and, we believe, unforgettable experience, treat yourself to a bit of fun and head to the rope center Tarzania Trenčín. Synagóga v Trenčíne

Synagóga v Trenčíne

Trenčín

Proof of the numerous presence of the Jewish community in the city of Trenčín is a true architectural gem. The beautiful synagogue in Trenčín is an unmissable part of Námestie Ľudovíta Štúra. It is one of the most beautiful and interesting buildings of its kind in Slovakia. It has been part of the city's cultural and historical treasure trove since 1913. The building with Byzantine and Moorish-Oriental elements was built on the site of an old wooden synagogue from the end of the 18th century. Since its current condition does not allow a tour of the interior, we invite you to admire its architecture at least from the outside.

The Jewish sanctuary was built according to the project of a native of Trenčín, the Berlin architect Richard Scheibner. The original building plans are still kept in the State District Archive today. The central hall of the synagogue has a square floor plan and a dominant dome. On three sides, it is surrounded by stepped galleries with barrel vaults. The center connects to a three-nave vestibule, which includes the main entrance to the synagogue. The rectangular extension, which serves as a prayer room, was formerly the chancellor's room.

The main attributes of the sanctuary's architecture are restraint, integrity, and simplicity. Typical historicizing decoration retreats completely in some places. The central space is characterized by simple main arches and abundant natural light provided by large windows. The dome is decorated with oriental ornaments. The front and side western facades consist of twin towers with a gabled front. The entrance is situated on the main front facade. On the side facade, it is replaced by an arcade corridor. A characteristic feature of the building are three small domes covering the towers with staircases.

The ceremonial opening of the synagogue took place in September 1913. The Jewish population used it until World War II, when it was damaged by members of a Nazi organization and the Hlinka Guard. Its interior furnishings were also destroyed. The first repairs began immediately after the war. However, from 1951, the building served as a clothing warehouse. Only the prayer room was preserved. The synagogue enjoyed extensive renovation between 1974 and 1984. The building began serving as an exhibition hall and a venue for organizing concerts. Currently, only an exterior view of the building is possible, which we warmly recommend during your visit to Trenčín.

During a walk past the synagogue, you will certainly notice the very unusual Fontána vodníka Valentína. Take a photo and continue to the impressive Trenčiansky hrad. After touring it, you can take a trip to the unique lesopark Brezina, offering recreation, beautiful views, a children's playground, and many other attractions. Do not forget to set aside time to visit Tarzánia and kúpalisko Trenčín. You can't manage all that in one day? Book accommodation near the synagogue in Trenčíne. On our portal, you will find popular cottages and chalets guaranteeing privacy, as well as comfortable apartments. Do not hesitate and choose from the accommodation offer in Trenčín. The local attractions will be right at your fingertips.

Lesopark Brezina

Lesopark Brezina

Trenčín

The town of Trenčín can boast a truly alluring relaxation and recreational area. Lesopark Brezina is situated on the southwestern spur of the Strážovské vrchy mountains. It extends over the massif of the same name, the highest point of which is Kozí vrch. The natural environment, located within excellent accessibility of the town, offers opportunities for interesting walking tours along educational trails as well as cycling trips. In winter, people go sledding here, and cross-country skiing tracks are also available. Local attractions also include a children's playground, a viewpoint, a memorial, and the picturesque Čerešňový sad.

The history of the forest park dates back to the last decades of the 19th century. The afforestation of the area in close proximity to the town center is associated with the name Ľudovít Bonaventúra Stárek. He was a Catholic priest and the discoverer of the Roman inscription on the Trenčiansky hrad castle rock. It was he who was responsible for the systematic planting of trees on today's Brezina mountain range. And since it was birches (brezy) that took root here first, this area also received its fitting name. Today, beeches, hornbeams, maples, elms, and spruces also grow here. The forest area primarily provides a valuable space for recreation in a natural setting.

Part of the forest park is also the so-called Čerešňový sad. It is located near Trenčiansky hrad castle and was once covered only with sweet and sour cherries. Currently, birches and other trees also occur among the original growth. However, you will also find many gazebos and fireplaces here, providing space for relaxation and spending pleasant moments in nature. A trip to the forest will also be made more enjoyable for the youngest tourists by a large children's playground. With its wooden construction, it fits pleasantly into the character of the environment. Climbing frames, slides, swings, and wooden playhouses await your little ones here.

A popular excursion spot in the forest area is also Štefánikova vyhliadka. It is located at the top of a cliff complex named Sokolice. After ascending to this spot, a panorama will open up before you, offering a view of Trenčín and Skalka with the backdrop of the Biele Karpaty. During your wanderings through the forest park, you will also come across a memorial site dedicated to the victims of fascism who were executed in these places by the Germans in 1944 and 1945. The Pamätník umučených is currently situated right by Čerešňový sad, where it provides a generous space for remembering these solemn events.

The park is a popular spot for walking, cycling, running, and in winter, it also offers opportunities for cross-country skiing. The paths are stepped in several places and equipped with wooden benches. You can also take a walk along one of the educational trails here. On the trail named Vznik a vývoj lesa, 12 information boards will accompany you. If you walk the entire 1,500 m trail, you will reach the mass graves of those tortured during World War II. The slightly shorter Sever route, just a few meters shorter, will guide you through seven stops offering a trip into the history of Brezina. Sports enthusiasts will be particularly delighted by the so-called Kyslíková dráha. The 4,000 m circuit offers a popular running track along which training areas are placed.

Be sure to combine a trip to the Trenčín forest park with a tour of the adjacent Trenčiansky hrad castle. Right in the town, do not miss the Fontána vodníka Valentína, an artistic experience at the Galéria M. A. Bazovského, or a tour of the local synagogue. A major attraction for visitors is also the town tower (Mestská veža) or the mysterious Dom mestského kata. The diverse offer of tourist attractions is pleasantly complemented by the offer of accommodation near Lesopark Brezina. On our portal, you can also find the accomodation in Trenčín page. Here, you can choose from a selection of popular cottages and chalets, modern apartments, as well as comfortable guesthouses. The offer is truly diverse.

Festival Grape

Festival Grape

Trenčín

The Grape music festival in Trenčín represents one of the most progressive and stylish multi-genre festivals in Central Europe, bringing current global trends in independent music and visual arts to the grounds of the Letisko Trenčín airport.

The event takes place every year in August in the town of Trenčín, in the district of Trenčín, at the spacious and modernly equipped Letisko Trenčín airport. Over the years of its existence, the Grape festival has profiled itself as an event targeted at a younger audience, while its line-up sensitively combines leading global performers from the fields of indie, pop, electronics, and hip-hop with the best of the domestic scene. During the festival, the airport grounds are transformed into a design town with multiple stages, art installations, and relaxation zones that stand out for their imaginative execution and aesthetic unity. An important element of the festival is interactivity, which manifests in a rich accompanying program including workshops, discussions, sports tournaments, and fashion shows. Thanks to its location in the Považie region and excellent transport accessibility, it attracts thousands of visitors not only from Slovakia, but also from surrounding countries, thereby contributing to the international character of the Trenčín region. Grape is not just about music, but about an overall lifestyle, freedom of expression, and creating a community of people who appreciate quality and aesthetics in every detail.

What can you find here?

On the airport grounds, you will find main concert stages, dance arenas, design markets featuring local fashion, and open-air art galleries. Extensive tent cities with various levels of comfort, showers, sanitary facilities, and a wide range of gastro stalls focused on street food and healthy eating are available. Charging stations, Wi-Fi zones, and secure luggage storage spaces are also prepared for visitors.

Who is the place suitable for?

The festival is primarily intended for young people, students, and fans of contemporary music production who are seeking a modern and visually appealing cultural experience. It is also sought after by creatives and fashion lovers because of the famous festival dress code themes and the visitors' original outfits. Ski centrum Kohútka

Ski centrum Kohútka

Čertov

Many tourists head out for a winter holiday in the Javorníky mountains, located in the Kysuce region, northwest of the town of Čadca. If you would like to get to know this area as well, you are certainly looking for a suitable ski resort. There are plenty of them across the entire Javorníky region, but they are mostly smaller with a homely atmosphere. If you prefer skiing in a larger and more modern resort, we have a great tip for you. It is Ski centrum Kohútka.

You do not have to worry about the fact that it is a ski resort on the border between the Czech Republic and Slovakia. It is located only approximately 30 km from Čadca, and in less than half an hour's drive, you are there. And trust us, those few kilometers are worth it! Nor do you need to worry about having to exchange money. Ski Kohútka is used to the influx of skiers from Slovakia, and you can easily pay for a ski pass in euros. Likewise, in restaurants, you can purchase refreshments in euros or use the increasingly popular payment by card.

Ski centrum Kohútka is an exceptionally comprehensive ski resort with a great future. Everyone will find something to enjoy here, from the youngest skiers to lovers of the steepest slopes. The ski resort is situated at an altitude of 715 to 913 meters above sea level. That is not much, but Javorníky in combination with artificial snowmaking are a sufficient guarantee of a properly long winter season.

Let's get to the most important part. What have they prepared for you in this border ski resort? Here you will find as many as 10 slopes designed for everyone. 5 of them are marked in blue, where beginner skiers in particular will enjoy themselves. 4 slopes are red, suitable for more demanding skiers and family skiing as well. And you will also find 1 black slope here, which, with a length of 850 meters, is intended for the best skiers.

The total length of all slopes is almost 7 km, so it is definitely not a small ski resort. The number of transport facilities corresponds to this as well. Here you will find a central 4-seater chairlift, where you will probably spend the most time. Why? When you get off it, you have a choice of 3 options to get to the lower station of the resort. One of them is a blue slope, the second is red, and the third is black. In addition to the chairlift, there are 6 other ski lifts in the resort, thanks to which you will never spend more time in line than you would like. We have not yet mentioned the longest slope in the resort. It has a respectable 1,600 meters and will satisfy even the most demanding.

Ski centrum Kohútka is perhaps the best-equipped resort in the region. It offers a rich selection of additional services. Equipment rental, ski service, and a ski school are a matter of course. In addition, you will find a children's ski park, a number of high-quality restaurants, snack bars, or a brand-name ski test center where you can try riding the latest models.

Despite the fact that the ski resort is located right on the border, a varied palette of quality accommodation services will surprise you. Right in the resort itself, you will find many accommodation options, especially pleasant cottages right by the slopes. Mountain hotels and tourist hostels are also numerous. An interesting feature of the entire Javorníky area is its typical scattered settlement, and if your heart desires an escape from everyday stress, you can find your own cottage in seclusion. From there, you can head out among the people on the slopes of Kohútka and enjoy a carefree winter holiday.

Vodná nádrž Hričov

Vodná nádrž Hričov

Divinka

The Hričov water reservoir is part of the Vážska kaskáda,  dams built on the Váh river. It is located above the confluence of the Váh river with the Rajčianka and Kysuca rivers near the village of Divinka in the Žilinský kraj. It is 8 kilometers away from the town of Žilina and 11 kilometers from the town of Bytča. The water reservoir also features the hydroelectric power plant of the same name, Hričov. The surroundings of the Hričovská nádrž and the Váh are mainly used by cyclists. If you love cycling or long walks, be sure to take a trip to this water reservoir.

Construction of the Hričov water reservoir began in 1958. This was mainly due to numerous floods that caused considerable difficulties for the people from local villages. During construction, a part of the Žilina city district of Strážov had to be flooded. Fortunately, other surrounding villages such as Horný Hričov or Dolný Hričov remained untouched. A hydroelectric power plant was also put into operation near the water dam in 1962. Due to the influx of impurities, the water in the reservoir is not suitable for swimming or water sports.

However, if you like fishing, the Hričov water body is made for it. Fishermen come here from far and wide to enjoy proper fishing. Carp fish thrive here, and you can catch carp, catfish, zander, grass carp, or pike on a rod. Moreover, the peaceful environment as well as easy access to the water ensures perfect fishing.

Along the Hričov water reservoir, you will find several cycling routes. From the reservoir heading south, a cycling route up to 28 kilometers long runs along the Hričovský kanál. You can head towards Bytča and admire the nearby Súľovské skaly in the background. From the Hričovská nádrž, it is not far by bike or even on foot to the Budatínsky hrad.

If you go on holiday to this locality, we offer you accommodation near the Hričov water reservoir or accommodation in the Žilina district on our portal. You will also find other tips for trips around the surroundings with us. Book accommodation according to your taste on our websites, go on holiday, and discover the beauties of Hričov.

Galéria Plusmínusnula

Žilina

Do you love art? If so, visit Galéria Plusmínusnula, which is located in the information center of the Neologická synagóga in Žilina. Despite being an intimate exhibition space of smaller dimensions, you can view works by a young generation of artists, architects, and designers here. Come and enjoy contemporary art for yourself and support young artists.

The creation of the gallery was brought about by a group of three people: architects Dušan Voštenák, Lenka Voštenáková, and artist Ján Gašparovič. The project was also realized thanks to the financial support of the European Regional Development Fund. The first exhibition took place on May 20, 2011, and the first artist to exhibit here was Ašot Haas, a Slovak artist of Russian origin.

Galéria Plusmínusnula was formerly located in a commercial space on Mydlárska Street, but since 2014, this tiny gallery with an area of 37 m² moved to a renovated extension of the so-called Nová synagóga. Its premises are situated near the main entrance under the terrace. Since the gallery's area is not very large, the exhibitions held here regularly consist of only a few exhibits. It is also very often used by students and aspiring artists.

Lyžiarske stredisko Straník

Lyžiarske stredisko Straník

Žilina

Kysucká vrchovina is ideal in any season for various sports activities. During winter, head directly to the local Lyžiarske stredisko Straník ski resort, located approximately 3 km from the center of Žilina, in the city district of Zástranie. As soon as a continuous layer of snow covers the slopes, winter sports enthusiasts will find everything they are looking for here.

Planning a day full of skiing is very convenient for visitors as well as all residents of Žilina. For this purpose, the smaller Lyžiarske stredisko Straník is ready to serve you. Within its area, there are a total of 2 ski lifts with a transport capacity of 1,300 people per hour. The large ski lift is 460 m long and provides access to either a medium-difficulty or an easy slope. On the small ski lift with a length of 250 m, beginners in particular, or your little ones, can enjoy gaining their first skiing experiences to their heart's content. The combination of these various slope difficulties is especially suitable for families, though advanced and recreational skiers will surely appreciate it as well.

An interesting feature of this resort is that the total length of the slopes is 1.6 km. Do not expect artificial snowmaking in this resort. Freshly fallen natural powder is transformed into groomed corduroy snow. Skiing thus has a wonderful charm, even when your skis just lightly glide along their edges down the maintained slope.

Cross-country skiers will also find plenty to enjoy within the ski resort area. This leisure activity of cross-country skiing brings incredible joy and excitement, as there are groomed cross-country trails and tracks in and around the resort. While cross-country skiing, you might not enjoy the stunning views of the Malá Fatra ridge from the top of Straník, but you will certainly admire the views of the surrounding nature hidden beneath the snow. Due to the resort's low altitude, the length of the skiing season and snow conditions are directly influenced by the current weather.

Will you purchase a seasonal pass for skiing at Straník? If so, you will certainly be thrilled by its relatively excellent price. Rspecially when compared to the somewhat more distant top-tier ski resort Vrátna Free Time Zone (located 25 km from Žilina). You can ski at Straník one day, book accommodation near Lyžiarske stredisko Straník in the evening, and end your stay the next day with relaxation at Mestská krytá plaváreň v Žiline. You can also take a look at the world from a bird's-eye perspective directly from Vyhliadková veža Dubeň.

Should you feel like you want more and wish to extend your stay, we definitely recommend contacting one of our verified accommodation providers. You can choose from many properties in our complete range of accommodation in Žilina. Hrad Tematín

Hrad Tematín

Lúka

In western Slovakia, in the southwestern part of Považský Inovec in the cadastral area of the village of Lúka, you can find the currently ruined Hradu Tematín. It is an ideal place for easy hiking and spending time in nature. If you head to Tematínsky hrad, you certainly won't regret it.

Let's look into the history of this castle. From documents, we find out that it was founded in the 13th century right after the invasion of Mongol troops. Its task was to guard the borders of Hungary and at the same time serve as a refuge for local residents. During its existence, it passed through the hands of several wealthy and prominent families. The Bercsényi family is one of such families, associated with the following story. Supposedly at the time when Rákoczi's uprising was supposed to arrest Mikuláš Bercsényi and occupy the castle, this plan failed for the army. Mikuláš Bercsényi devised a solution where he swapped places with his commander, and instead of capturing the commander, who was already long gone by that time, they caught the garrison captain.

The castle was finally burned down in 1710 and only a ruin has remained of it to this day. This ruin is currently a great place for walks, even though it is necessary to be careful. Entry to it is at your own risk. It doesn't matter whether you come in spring or autumn, there are no entry restrictions here. You can even symbolically support the restoration of the castle with a voluntary admission fee into the donation box.

The ascent to the castle is possible from several places. The path is not difficult, it is rather long. Expect it to take you more than an hour and a half of your time. You have the option to go along the blue trail from the local recreational resort using the tourist path, or alternatively set out through Lúčanská dolina. Also in the village of Hrádok, you can find the right direction to the castle either along the marked route or the unmarked path.

Perhaps you are a family with children and it will be interesting for you to look for accommodation near Hrade Tematín. You need to keep in mind that your smallest offspring will remain tired after such a hike and will appreciate a rest. If you are looking for options of where to go on a trip in the vicinity of the castle, check out the animals at ZOO farme New Zealand. In winter, skiing on the slopes of the Ski Bezovec resort is great instead. Perfect romance is provided by cottages and chalets in Lúka, or even rooms in hotels near kúpeľoch Piešťany. MiniFARMA Lubina

MiniFARMA Lubina

Lubina

In the district of Nové Mesto nad Váhom, the homesteads near the village of Lubina hide a small treasure. MiniFARMA Lubina is a wonderful place for children and their parents, which was created gradually under the hands of a young family that decided to move from the hustle and bustle of the big city to the nature below Javorina. In the area, you can feel that it is built and embellished with love for animals, which received a home here without cages or bars.

This exceptional place was actually created by complete accident. The family that started their new life on the homesteads brought with them a tiny mare and two mini pigs. On the spacious plot of land with plenty of green area, mini versions of farm animals such as goats, horses, sheep, donkeys, geese, ducks, and many others were gradually added. On one hectare, more than 100 animals that are unique especially for their small stature live together today. It often happened that people on a walk opened the gate themselves to take a closer look at the farm inhabitants. This gave the owners the idea to open the gates of the premises officially as well, thus providing an unusual experience to the general public. The dream became a reality in 2013.

From the beginning, it was a simple vision: to create a relaxation space for families where both young and old would enjoy direct contact with animals. At the same time, the owners did not want to keep the animals in cages or limit visitors' stay to an hour or two. Just as they granted freedom to the animals, they granted it to people too. They ensured unlimited access to the enclosures with animals, where visitors can observe, pet, or feed them in their natural environment. Everything is supervised by friendly and experienced animators who will gladly explain how to approach the animals so that you take away the greatest experience possible. With a smile, they will also answer all the questions your children might be curious about. You can spend as much time with the animals as you need, and the pace of the tour is truly in your hands, or rather, in your feet?

If you get tired or hungry, you can comfortably sit down in the relaxation areas of the complex where animals do not have access, but where you will not lose sight of them either. Comfortable bean bags and hammocks will offer you pleasant relaxation. Children will have fun on traditional playgrounds or discover the charm of the forest, water, and straw playground. In fairy-tale houses or on lookout towers, they will feel like princesses and princes. Pedal tractors, slides, or swings are also prepared here. For schools and groups, an online reservation form is available where they can easily book a tour in advance.

We guarantee that you will not want to leave the complex, as it is simply an oasis of peace and relaxation where you stay connected with nature from the moment you step inside until the gate closes behind you. You will surely be pleased that near MiniFARMA Lubina you will find pleasant accommodation options. The comfort of guesthouses or cottages in Stará Turá is within reach. After a pleasant rest, you can set out to discover other beauties in the surroundings. You can admire Vojenská veža na Jelenci, which is one of the peaks of Biele Karpaty. You can show children Mestské múzeum Stará Turá, where you will learn about the history of the local region. Železničné múzeum Stará Turá, which a group of local enthusiasts renovates and preserves for future generations in their free time, boasts rare exhibits of historical trains. In summer, you can refresh yourself and have fun on the shores of Vodná nádrž Dubník. Do you know the legend of the bloody lady of Čachtice? Čachtický hrad

Čachtický hrad

Čachtice

Almost every castle is associated with ancient legends that often inspire terror. One of the terrifying stories that you surely know is about Elizabeth Báthory. Her home was none other than Čachtický hrad. You no longer need to be afraid of the deceased ruler of the castle; only a beautiful view and walls breathing with history await you.

Čachtický hrad is located above the village of Čachtice of the same name. You will find it very easily. It is located at the foot of Malé Karpaty, between the towns of Nové Mesto nad Váhom and Piešťany. The Považie region is notoriously known for its high concentration of castles. These were intended to protect not only trade routes, but also the Kingdom of Hungary from attacks from the west. Čachtický hrad was located right on the imaginary front line. It was built in 1260, but the castle hill was inhabited much earlier.

The castle recorded its first major event shortly after its construction. As early as 1273, it had to face a massive attack by the Czech King Ottokar II. Many castles fell victim to his troops, but Čachtický hrad, although with heavy losses, resisted.

Later, the castle belonged to several rulers, undoubtedly the most famous being Matúš Čák Trenčiansky. After his death, King Sigismund took over the baton, gifting it to his devoted adjutant Stibor of Stiboricz. He owned up to 15 castles and was rightly called the "Lord of all Považie." The most famous castle he owned was Beckov.

From 1569, the Nádasdy family came to rule the castle. After the death of Tamás Nádasdy, it was controlled by his wife, who wanted to get rid of the castle. Pre-emptive rights to the castle were used by her son Ferenc Nádasdy. Although the Čachtice estate belonged to him, death awaited him two years later, and so the rule over the castle was entrusted to his wife, the legendary Elizabeth Báthory. Elizabeth married when she was only 15 years old, and it is very likely that she suffered from psychological problems. Her condition was not helped by separation from her husband, who was almost constantly at war. Solitude was responsible for the rise of sadism in the famous countess. It is rumored that a maid once pulled her hair while combing it. The enraged countess struck the maid so hard that she wounded her until she bled. The maid's blood fell on Báthory's face, and she felt as if she had rejuvenated. She began killing young girls en masse for their blood, which allegedly made her younger. She likely deprived 690 girls of their lives and tortured many of them. These practices became suspicious over time, and so on January 2, 1611, she stood trial. Her punishment was life imprisonment under house arrest, where she died in the summer of 1614. Her remains are allegedly buried in one of the castle walls.

The castle did not face a very rosy future. In 1708, the castle was conquered by the troops of Francis II Rákóczi and served only as a prison until 1799, when it burned down. Since then, it has been abandoned and falling into ruin. It underwent several reconstructions, the latest of which was scheduled to end in 2014. A visit to the castle is certainly interesting, especially if you want to see a rugged medieval military fortress. Čachtický hrad was a combat fortress, and romantic architectural whims had no place here. After the reconstruction, some parts will even be roofed, so you will see Čachtický hrad in a completely new outfit.

To enjoy the castle sufficiently, you can stay in close proximity. Directly below its walls lie the villages of Čachtice and Višňové. Both offer plenty of private rooms and family houses for rent, so you will be able to wake up with the silhouette of the castle behind your windows. If you are looking for a busier life, you will definitely like Nové Mesto nad Váhom. Hotels, guesthouses, or tourist hostels guaranteeing a cheap holiday are available here. Look at the beauties of Považie with perspective from Čachtický hrad.

Vodná nádrž Dubník

Vodná nádrž Dubník

Stará Turá

Vodná nádrž Dubník lies near the town of Stará Turá, located about 2 km away from it. It was created on the Kostelník stream and consists of as many as two reservoirs, Dubník I and Dubník II, also known as old and new Dubník, which are separated by about 700 m.

The lower-lying one is Dubník I, which also features a small island. The beginning of the dam's construction dates back to 1953. In addition to the reservoir, the Klubový dom house, access roads, and a parking lot were built. Its commissioning took place on May 9, 1954. Exactly one year later, Klubový dom was opened; this former boathouse no longer exists today, with only concrete foundations remaining. Originally, only a pond dam was constructed here, but later the project was changed, and the dam was subsequently built up to its current level, reaching full completion only in 1964. The crest of the dam is 126 m long and 6 m wide, with an asphalt road running along it. Dubník I covers an area of 18 ha and reaches a maximum depth of 6.67 m.

Vodná nádrž Dubník I has been a popular summer recreation area for years, which is why a beach and necessary services were established here. During the summer, not only swimming is popular, but also other water sports, with paddleboat and boat rental offering its services as well. Locals would rather recommend Dubník II for swimming, where the water is said to be cleaner, although access to the water is more demanding. In both reservoirs, swimming is at your own risk.

Anglers will also find plenty to enjoy. Not only can they engage in regular fishing here, but fishing competitions are also held regularly. Every year in July, the weekend motorcycle and music festival Tanec Slnka is organized. And not to forget about sports enthusiasts, we will also mention the popular Staroturanský triatlon at the end of August. Refreshment stalls, restaurants, various sports fields, and a playground for the little ones are available near Dubník I.

If swimming and sunbathing are not for you, you can take a walk around the old Dubník or cover this route by bicycle. For train lovers, we recommend visiting Stará Turá, where the Železničné múzeum museum is on offer. The forests around the town will breathe the history of the Slovenské národné povstanie (Slovak National Uprising) on you. Here you will come across a reconstructed partisan hospital and several bunkers. The more active ones might be tempted by a hike to the peak of Veľká Javorina on the Czech-Slovak border. With children, you can visit Minifarma Lubina. During your stay in this area, we also recommend visiting the legendary Čachtický hrad.

The closest accommodation near Vodná nádrž Dubník is provided by cottages in Stará Turá. Remember that this area is popular, and therefore options run out quickly. If you happen to miss out on accommodation in Stará Turá, you can also try your luck in nearby Stará Myjava, where you will likewise find pleasant cottages, chalets, or private stays.
