Ski centrum Košútka
The fact that the best ski resorts must be in the most famous Slovak mountain ranges may not always be true. An example is the Košútka ski resort. You will find it in the middle of Slovakia, in a beautiful region rich in traditions. It lies just a short distance from the well-known Poľana, our most famous volcano.
Košútka is located roughly halfway between Zvolen and Lučenec. It is near Detva, which has become famous for its folklore festival. Just 1.5 km from the resort is the small town of Hriňová, situated in the central zone of the Veporské vrchy mountains. Although they do not rank among the most famous, they offer fairytale views of the broad surroundings.
The resort spans an altitude of 514 to 714 meters above sea level, representing a elevation difference of exactly 200 meters. The nearby peak of Košútka is only 12 meters higher than the highest point of the resort, which in itself guarantees a perfect view.
Up to 2.5 km of slopes are at your disposal, designed for a wide spectrum of skiers. Blue slopes, the least demanding ones intended primarily for beginner skiers, make up the greatest length in the resort. They account for slightly more than half of the entire resort. However, more experienced skiers were also taken into account. You will find a red, intermediate slope here, and even a black, most demanding slope where even professional skiers will enjoy themselves. It is precisely in this section that competitions for adrenaline lovers in acrobatic ski jumping are regularly organized.
Transport within the resort is provided by 3 ski lifts with more than sufficient capacity. Thanks to them, you will be skiing at Košútka near Hriňová from morning to evening. And perhaps even more, the ski resort offers the option of night skiing, allowing you to enjoy the groomed slopes even after dark. For beginners and less daring skiers, a ski school is at your service, whose instructors can work absolute miracles.
Among other services, we should mention a snack bar, a restaurant right by the slope, and a ski and snowboard rental shop. In addition to the mentioned adrenaline competitions, you will encounter several interesting events at Košútka during the winter season, such as ski touring competitions or a carnival on the snow.
Košútka is a popular ski resort in the winter season, but it is also interesting in the summer. At that time, you can enjoy an adrenaline descent on a pulley attached to a cable. You may know this form of entertainment from various action videos. The longest zip line track in Slovakia has a length of almost half a kilometer here. Furthermore, the complex features a downhill trail for mountain bikes, as well as trampolines and a bouncy castle for the little ones.
Accommodation near the Košútka ski resort can be found around every corner. Perhaps the most interesting alternative for skiers is the option of staying in a hotel directly by the slope. In addition, the immediate surroundings offer charming guesthouses or accommodation in one of the cottages or private rooms.
