The local slopes are wide, always perfectly prepared. Of course, you will also find an artificial snowmaking system here, thanks to which the ski season is much longer.

The location in the north of Slovensko guarantees plenty of snow. Spacious slopes ensure that you will not encounter any "congestion" and you will always have enough room during your ride. Orava Snow boasts a new chairlift, seconded by four ski lifts.

An interesting feature of the Orava Snow ski resort is the presence of slopes of all difficulty levels. The resort has two parts, Lehotská and Kohútik. From Lehotská, there are mainly blue, the least demanding slopes, but also one medium-difficulty one. This part is especially suitable for families with children, beginner skiers, or snowboarders. You can use a slope with natural snow, where you will enjoy fresh powder. More experienced skiers will certainly appreciate the presence of a black slope, or rather a part of it. The steepest section makes up about half of the kilometer-long descent.

The Orava Snow ski resort also offers plenty of additional services that can make moments off the slopes more pleasant. These include a ski school, service, snowtubing, snack bars, wellness centers, or lounge chairs where you can do nothing and catch a tan thanks to the sharp winter sun.

Directly by the slopes, you will also find accommodation facilities, cottages, tourist hostels, or mountain hotels. Alternatively, you will certainly choose from the offer of one of the private guesthouses directly in the village of Oravská Lesná. This way, you will get to know Orava even outside the slopes. Ski centrum Kozinec

Ski centrum Kozinec

Zázrivá

Orava remains one of the most appealing regions of Slovakia to this day. It possesses a certain magic and mystery, inviting tourists to explore its beauty. In some respects, it keeps up with modern times, while in others, you can still feel the breath of centuries past. And you can enjoy this unique blend even in winter.

An ideal starting point is the area around the famous village of Terchová, where, according to legend, Slovakia's most renowned highwayman, Jánošík, once operated. Located approximately 10 km from Terchová and 20 km from Dolný Kubín is the traditional Orava village of Zázrivá. Directly above it rises the Kozinec mountain, home to the ski resort of the same name. Ski centrum Kozinec is set in the fairy-tale, virtually untouched nature of the Orava region. South of the ski resort lies one of Slovakia's most beautiful national parks, Malá Fatra, where you can also set off on several highly interesting hikes.

Let us return to the Kozinec ski resort itself. Its grounds span altitudes between 650 and 995 meters above sea level. While this may not be the highest elevation you will encounter, the favorable climatic conditions of Orava will quickly dispel any concerns. As one of the coldest and most precipitation-rich regions in Slovakia, you need not worry about a lack of snow.

The slopes are regularly groomed, and the resort offers skiing opportunities for all skill levels. Beginners can use the blue slope, the easiest route, which is also the longest run in the resort at approximately 2 km. There are numerous trails available for intermediate skiers, offering a variety of downhill options. Last but not least, there is something for the most experienced skiers as well: the resort features two black-rated slopes that will satisfy even seasoned veterans.

Even though you may not have heard of Ski centrum Kozinec before, it is by no means a small operation. The total length of all ski runs reaches up to 5 kilometers, offering plenty of variety for a full day of skiing for everyone. A pleasant bonus of the resort is its favorable skipass pricing.

In terms of additional amenities, Ski centrum Kozinec holds its own against the competition. It features a ski school, ski equipment rental, a snowboard park with various obstacles, a snack bar, a restaurant, slope-side accommodation options, as well as three parking lots right by the ski lifts.

Accommodation options are available directly within the ski resort area or in the nearby village of Zázrivá, located just 3 km away. The village provides further lodging capacity in guesthouses, private rooms, or charming wooden cabins and cottages. In the heart of Orava, everyone can easily find the perfect place to stay.

In addition to groomed slopes with snowmaking capabilities, standard services in Hruštín include a ski service shop, ski rental, and a ski school. In Orava, however, they do not forget about snowboarders either. Snowboard rentals and a snowboard school are available directly at the ski resort. But Ski Zábava does not end its care for visitors there by any means. Surely, you also get hungry on the slopes. Let the locals invite you to a stylish restaurant situated in a traditional wooden hut. It is located in the immediate vicinity of the ski resort.

Pleasantly tired from the cold slopes and satisfied after a good meal, what would you say to a great wellness session? The local wellness center offers visitors to the area relaxation for body and soul. Pamper yourself in a pool with an adjustable counter-current or in a popular hot tub. A Finnish or steam sauna will thoroughly warm up a body chilled by the cold so that you can fully give yourself over to the hands of a masseur. Plan your winter holiday in Orava this year. Combine great skiing with a visit to the majestic Oravský hrad in nearby Oravský Podzámok. Adventure golf

Zázrivá

Do you love nature, active relaxation, and interesting sports challenges? Let us invite you to Adventure golf in Zázrivá. This lower Orava village, located in the Dolný Kubín district, has prepared a real sports treat for its visitors. It is not minigolf, nor is it traditional golf. So what is it really about? It is classic golf with preserved terrain obstacles, but in a miniature size. Can't imagine it? Accept our invitation to Adventure golf below Veľký Rozsutec and try this alternative to the noble sport.

In Zázrivá, golf is played on an 18-hole adventure golf course with artificial turf. It is the first course of its kind in Slovakia. Players here receive golf balls, classic golf clubs, and minigolf putters. During their game, they will encounter various terrain irregularities, water hazards, and sand bunkers, much like on a full-sized golf course. This fun sports activity originating from North America has become a popular recreational sport and family entertainment. The golf course in Zázrivá is visited not only by groups of enthusiasts seeking fun, but also by families with children who enjoy spending time together here. All golf performances in Zázrivá are watched over by the majestic Veľký Rozsutec, which completes the beautiful natural scenery of this place.

And how is Adventure golf played? Individuals or groups of players can join the game. The maximum recommended capacity for one hole is 4 players. The playing area consists of 18 holes numbered sequentially, which must be followed during play. The goal of the game is to get the ball into the hole with the fewest number of strokes. The winner is the player who achieves the lowest total number of strokes across all holes. Will you manage to get the balls into the hole while avoiding all the hazards of the course? If your ball ends up in the sand or water, you can try playing from there. Alternatively, you can place the ball 15 cm from the edge of the obstacle. You will receive a penalty point for this, but don't let it discourage you. The main goal of this game is not to win, but to have great fun in the company of family or friends.

If your travels through lower Orava bring you to Zázrivá, be sure not to miss this unique adventure on the golf course. And when you conquer all 18 holes, set off on a trip to nearby Terchová. The summit of Veľká Rača itself, through which the state border runs, is situated almost 200 meters higher. The greatest advantage of the Snowparadise Veľká Rača resort is its size and layout across three interconnected skiing locations Dedovka, Marguška, and Lalíky. Slopes of all difficulty levels are available here. Everyone will enjoy great skiing.

More than 14 km of trails are available. Almost all slopes are covered with artificial snow and are regularly groomed. You will find 15 slopes here, including 7 blue (easy difficulty), 7 red (intermediate), and 1 black (difficult). Cross-country skiing enthusiasts will also come into their own, as there are cross-country trails here, Stopa zdravia with lengths of 1 km, 3 km, and 5 km. Access to these trails is from the top station of the chairlift in Dedovka.

A new children's ski nursery, Snehové kráľovstvo, was also opened in the resort. It is located in the Dedovka area, between the Košariská 1 and Košariská 2 slopes. Children can try out a new magic carpet conveyor belt, two children's rope lifts, and enjoy skiing through a new fairy-tale obstacle course with figures. The new Račatrak snowcat transports children to the nursery from the top station of the Dedovka cable car. Diligent young skiers in the nursery are regularly visited by the mascot Macko Račko accompanied by children's songs.

The range of services in the resort is varied, ski schools, luggage storage, ski service, ski rental, and a sports equipment shop.

To diversify your skiing experience, you can also enjoy an adrenaline rush on the bobsled track, which is the largest attraction in the resort, or take a snowcat ride during slope grooming. It offers skiers the longest slopes for evening skiing in Slovakia.

In addition, events for visitors take place throughout the winter season, whether it is building snowmen, a fairy-tale carnival, a sauerkraut soup cooking competition, Hawaiian skiing in swimsuits, or Finnish sledding.

The Beskydy are one of the coldest regions of our beautiful country. But do not worry, you certainly will not freeze. You will warm up skiing on the slopes, on cross-country skis, later over a glass of good grog, and in the evening you can chat by the flickering fire in the fireplace of a stylish cottage. There is an abundance of these in the Beskydy, and if you are looking for precisely this type of accommodation, you are in the right place. However, others need not despair either. The surrounding area offers a number of hotels or tourist hostels of every category. All you have to do is choose and enjoy your holiday in a top-class ski resort, in Snow Paradise Veľká Rača Oščadnica.

Oravský hrad

Oravský hrad

Oravský Podzámok

Together we will head to the north of Slovakia, to a region that was plagued by hunger and poverty for many centuries. The difficult serf life, in contrast with breathtaking nature, continues to amaze tourists to this day. The hard, cold, and rugged Orava shows off its beauty. One of the greatest is undoubtedly Oravský hrad.

Oravský hrad definitely cannot be overlooked. It proudly towers on a majestic rocky cliff, thanks to which it is not only clearly visible, but also enjoys a great strategic location. Judge for yourself: for enemies in the High Middle Ages, it was surely almost impossible to conquer the 112-meter steep cliff.

If you think the castle is located near the famous Oravská priehrada, you are mistaken. You will find it a bit further south, by the village of Oravský Podzámok. An important trade route once passed through here. A stone successor was built on the site of a wooden fort. It is first mentioned in the year 1267. King Belo IV. exchanged it for Žilina, Varín, and Sučany, making it a royal castle. The castle passed through the hands of many owners and nobles. The most prominent family in its history is undoubtedly the Thurzovci. The first of them, František I. Thurzo, bought it in 1556. Later, the family had no male successor, leaving only 7 women. They chose a single administrator and thus maintained control over the property. It was thanks to the Thurzovci that Oravský hrad acquired the appearance it has today through reconstructions. The fortification was modified and reinforced between 1556 and 1621.

Even Oravský hrad could not avoid disaster in the form of a fire. It was engulfed in flames in the exact year of 1800. It was likely caused by a single spark that flew out of a chimney and set the entire roof ablaze. The first essential repairs took place only a century later, lasting from 1906 to 1912. During World War II, German troops settled at the castle, setting up a military observation post in the complex. More extensive reconstruction occurred between 1953 and 1968.

What can you see today at the castle above the Orava river? The castle premises house the exposition of Oravské múzeum. The most significant is its historical section, the castle itself. Its beauty has even enchanted filmmakers from all over the world. Many of you certainly know that the movieThomas the Falconer was filmed at the castle, but we have one more interesting fact. Footage for the cult 1922 film Nosferatu also comes from Oravský hrad. Part of the museum is also an ethnographic exposition focusing on the traditional lifestyle of the inhabitants of Orava, with an emphasis on the most typical craft, pastoral sheep farming. Finally, you will find an interesting natural science exposition showcasing the fauna and flora of Orava.

The most ideal option will be to stay directly below the castle cliff in Oravský Podzámok. Very affordable accommodation can be found in Orava. The saying "bang for your buck" applies here. You will be able to choose from a tourist hostel, private rental, guesthouse, or one of the private cottages. Whether you are a couple, a family, or an entire group, you are guaranteed to find what you are looking for.

Over the years of its existence, the event has gained the status of a cult action, on whose stage names such as Arch Enemy, Nightwish, Helloween, and The Rasmus have alternated. A characteristic feature of the festival is its excellent acoustics in an open natural space and an unrepeatable atmosphere, where rock and metal fans meet in the environment of deep Terchová traditions. In addition to the main program, the festival offers a space for young talented bands and accompanying competitions that maintain the community spirit of the event. Veľký Rozsutec

Veľký Rozsutec

Terchová

Veľký Rozsutec is a very prominent peak of the Malá Fatra, a sub-unit of the Krivánska Malá Fatra. It towers to an altitude of 1,609.7 m a. s. l. Its height, but certainly also its shape, helped it become a symbol of the region where the most famous highwayman Juraj Jánošík operated, and actually of the entire Malá Fatra. As the chočský príkrov gradually thrust over the softer layers of the krížňanský príkrov, this majestic peak was formed. Its summit and the surrounding rock cities, which are the largest in the territory of Slovakia, were formed by erosion.

The locality where this majestic hill is located falls into the Žilinský kraj. It is at the boundary of the Žilina and Dolný Kubín districts, extending into the cadastral territory of the villages of Párnica and Terchová, and marginally also Zázrivá.

It is said that Veľký Rozsutec is a kind of chest of accumulated treasures of the Slovak national hero Juraj Jánošík, which he hid there. Purportedly, only someone whose nature resembles that of Jánošík will find and dig them up. That is, someone who does not betray their ideals just for anything.

Veľký Rozsutec is rightly considered one of the most beautiful peaks in all of Slovakia, and it certainly has quite a lot of competition. This is undoubtedly assisted by its location in the protected nature reserve Rozsutec, but especially by the fabulous view that you will see from the summit. Indeed, judge for yourself, from above you will see Malý Rozsutec, Veľký Choč, Chleb, Stoh, the mountain ranges of Kysuce, Orava, and the peaks of the Západné Tatry. In addition, you will find yourself surrounded by unique and truly rare species of fauna and flora, as the locality ranks among the richest in Slovakia from a botanical perspective. And as if that were not enough, Veľký Rozsutec is also depicted on the logo of the Národný park Nízke Tatry.

When you reach the summit, sit there for a while and soak in the atmosphere. So many shades of green on the hills and so many shades of blue in the background. That beauty cannot be described in words. The views will charge you with energy, and you will have plenty to spare. Before descending, do not forget to take a photo by the cross; it is almost a tradition there.

The hike to Veľký Rozsutec ranks among the more demanding ones; a good level of fitness and ideally regular physical activity are certainly necessary. Given that the hill is located in a nature reserve, there is a seasonal closure from March 1 to June 15, which must be respected and observed. Instead, plan your hike for winter, for instance, when Rozsutec is truly magnificent, or alternatively for autumn, when nature in Jánošíkove diery turns into a painter and the trees play with all colors. Or will you take advantage of the period of the well-known and expected Malá Fatra inversions? It is entirely up to you.

Your feet will lead you to the summit via one of the following trails. Following the green tourist trail, you will start from Štefanová via the Medziholie saddle. Along the blue tourist trail, you can go from Párnica via the Medziholie saddle or from Terchová via Jánošíkove diery and the Medzirozsutce saddle. Finally, there is the red tourist trail along the main ridge, which leads from Zázrivá via the Medzirozsutce saddle or from the Medziholie saddle, where multiple trails subsequently intersect.

Coming to the region of Juraj Jánošík and not climbing Veľký Rozsutec would truly be a missed opportunity for an amazing trip. If we have inspired you enough, do not hesitate and directly book accommodation near Veľký Rozsutec. Choose accommodation Terchová and accommodation Štefanová on our pages. See for yourself whether you will dare to take on this unforgettable hike or if it will suffice for you to visit the attractions around Terchová.

Rozhľadňa Terchovské srdce

Rozhľadňa Terchovské srdce

Terchová

The Rozhľadňa Terchovské srdce observation tower is located on Oblaz hill and is beautifully visible upon arriving in Terchová from the direction of Žilina. It offers its visitors 3 viewing terraces from which they can observe the surrounding nature of Malá Fatra as well as the village itself. The observation tower is 30 meters high and, thanks to its easily accessible location, is suitable for anyone. That is why the Rozhľadňa Terchovské srdce observation tower is an ideal destination for mothers with children, mobility-impaired visitors, or elderly people.

This relatively newly built observation tower, accessible since October 2015, is the final stop on an educational trail focused on discovering the fauna and flora of Národný park Malá Fatra. The route is approximately one kilometer long. Ascent directly onto the tower is via a narrower staircase.

The name of the observation tower originated from the song: "To terchovské srdce na dvoje sa delí, jedna strana plače, druhá sa veselí..." ("That Terchová heart splits in two, one side cries, the other rejoices..."). The older generation also recalls the filming of the 1935 movie Jánošík featuring actor Paľo Bielik. Until recently, a gallows, a prop from this movie, stood on Oblaz hill. It was precisely this prop that inspired the well-known Slovak artist Alojz Mucha when designing the observation tower.

Oblaz hill is also known as a commemorative site. Several historical events took place here. It is somewhat chilling, but here you can also find a mass grave of local residents from the 19th-century plague epidemic. Today, Oblaz is mainly sought after by visitors because of the steel observation tower. It offers visitors beautiful views of Malý Rozsutec, Veľký Rozsutec, Boboty, Tiesňavy, Poludňový Grúň, Obšívanky, or Sokolie.

The observation tower is accessible free of charge throughout the entire year. Feel free to come here even in winter and enjoy rest in Relax centrum Terchovec in addition to the views of the snow-covered landscape. In summer, you can take a ride on Terchovský vláčik. We can recommend verified accommodation in Terchová, which you can find on our portal.

Drevený betlehem Terchová

Drevený betlehem Terchová

Terchová

In the center of the village of Terchová, which is known as the tourist center of Malá Fatra thanks to its geographical location, lies a unique attraction. The wooden moving nativity scene belongs among the unique treasures in Slovakia and is visited by numerous people every year. On your list of places that you can see among the attractions in Terchová, definitely do not miss this spot.

During opening hours, you can come and see the beauty of the woodcarving with your own eyes. Local folk masters paid great attention to detail and embellished the largest church in Slovakia dedicated to the Thessalonian brothers. In Kostol sv. Cyrila a Metoda, a nativity scene made of linden wood consisting of three parts is crafted.

The first part of the nativity scene focuses on depicting the traditional history of the village along with its typical crafts. Here you will find figures engaging in agriculture, metal production, and other manual work. In the second part, you can look at the place where Jesus Christ was born, namely a humble dwelling with a manger and farm animals. In the third part of the nativity scene, a contrast is visible. It consists in the depiction of Jerusalem as a city full of luxury and prosperity.

This breathtaking work was created by the hands of the Terchová folk woodcarver Štefan Hanuliak. He was assisted in his work by figure caster Jozef Holúb and movement mechanic Štefan Krištofík. The nativity scene as such is the second largest nativity scene in Slovakia and is enriched with something new every year. A keen eye will not miss that there are still plastic figures in the nativity scene. These are gradually being replaced with wooden ones.

If this masterpiece caught your interest and you have already viewed the nativity scene, be sure to plan trips to the surroundings. The village of Terchová is sought after mainly for its many points of interest. You can get closer to the legend of Jánošík directly at Socha Juraja Jánošíka, which towers over the village. It might be worth considering booking a typical wooden house in Terchová and enjoying views directly facing it as well. From a bird's-eye perspective, you will look at the beauty of Orava nature from the observation tower Terchovské srdce. Together with your children, plan an excellent ski trip during winter from a guesthouse in Terchová in Vrátna dolina at the resort Vrátna Free Time Zone. We will gladly recommend the best accommodation near Drevený betlehem Terchová.

Kalvária v Terchovej

Kalvária v Terchovej

Terchová

This specific Calvary, Kalvária v Terchovej, ranks among the non-traditional calvaries in Slovakia. It is located in a typical scattered settlement village in northern Slovakia, in the Žilinský kraj. The village of Terchová is one of the important tourist centers of Malá Fatra, but it is also sought after as a pilgrimage site. Take a day off work or plan a sun-drenched weekend spiritually at every single architecturally designed station of the Way of the Cross up to Oravcové hill.

The famous legend of Jánošík is tied to the village as such. However, it is also sought after for other popular attractions in Terchová. This interesting calvary is unique precisely for its stylized crosses. Instead of traditional chapels, you will find stone crosses with glass details laid on the ground, along with statues.

You can start your journey above Ďurkovský laz near the local agricultural cooperative. Following the yellow hiking trail, you can easily reach Oravcové hill. A walk to the top takes about 35 minutes, where a massive stone altar is located. You will also be captivated by unique views of the surrounding pristine nature.

The author of the Terchovská kalvária site is local academic sculptor and native Milan Opalka. This man was the first to contribute to the founding of Cyrilo-metodské dni, which have been held here for over a decade. Based on this need, a project was realized by the village, and in 2006, the calvary received a blessing from a spiritual father.

Should this easy hike combined with spiritual enrichment not be enough for you, we recommend one of the three sections of Jánošíkove diery. You will make full use of your hiking boots, and after such an active day, a rest in one of the accommodations will come in handy. It is best to choose accommodation near Kalvária v Terchovej. Nearby, there are mostly cottages and chalets preferred by families with children or larger groups. If you arrive as a couple and also have wellness at Relaxačné centrum Terchovec on your trip itinerary, stay in a room at a guesthouse Terchová.

Oravský Podzámok

Transport yourself to times past thanks to the Múzeum šľachtických kočiarov a saní in Oravský Podzámok. This museum is unique among Slovak museums thanks to the most extensive collection of carriages we have ever had here.

It began writing its history on the day of its opening, namely May 2008. Its opening hours are listed directly on the website. The museum itself will catch your attention mainly because of 21 exclusive exhibits in their original, but above all, renovated state. When we look into history, we find that the first transport wagons already appeared in Ancient Egypt or perhaps also in Asia. Immerse yourself in the period when luxury Landauers and Landaulets, stylish Mylords for gentlemen, and Victorias for ladies dashed along our roads. In the collection, you can also find urban Coupés, carriages for hunters, or winter sleighs.

Your fantasy and imagination will be working at full blast. Every single detail on the "bodywork", beautiful upholstery, or other gadgets of that era will thrill you. Not only carriages whose bodywork is separated from the chassis, but also wagons with a connection directly to the chassis. You will learn about all the possibilities of the present day as well as interesting information through information boards.

The overall experience of this museum below Oravský hrad is complemented by figures in period costumes. The cherry on top of the entire exhibition is the exclusive funeral carriage for nobles with dimensions of 5 meters in length and 3 in width. It is worth seeing with your own eyes.

Should you come as a group with more than 20 people, you can arrange an individual tour of the museum. Afterward, you can head directly to the village together, where you can see Stredoveká dedina sokoliarov or the popular Oravský hrad. After such a demanding day, book accommodation near the Múzeum šľachtických kočiarov a saní. Your choice can be rooms in Oravský Podzámok guest houses as well as cottages. Just set off on your wonderful sightseeing holiday in Slovakia.

Kaplnka u Haladeji

Oščadnica

In Oščadnica, below the massif of Veľká Rača, lies one of those magical corners of our country. Kaplnka u Haladeji reigns here over small wooden cottages that look as if they were taken straight out of a Slovak folk fairytale. The charming sacral building surrounded by greenery invites you for a pleasant walk in the fresh air. It is situated in the Kysuce region, in the village of Oščadnica, above the Laliky part.

Kaplnka na Haladeji stands on the site of an original chapel built in 1961. The bell, which was hanging here at that time only on a wooden structure, bore the inscription "Saint Cyril and Methodius pray for us". It is probably also for this reason that the current sacral building was dedicated precisely to St. Cyril and Methodius. It was built in 2015, when the original chapel was demolished due to structural issues. The current chapel is tiny, which, however, does not diminish its appeal. The beautiful stone and wood structure is decorated with wooden frescoes and paintings. The interior naturally features an altar.

A path leads up a gentle slope to the chapel, tailor-made for a pleasant walk. It is lined on both sides by beautiful wooden cottages whose architecture literally breathes history. Upon arriving at the chapel, visitors are greeted by wooden benches. Here you can sit down, rest, dedicate time to quiet prayer, or take a deep breath and let your soul find peace. An evening walk to this wonderful place is undoubtedly a unique experience. In the dark, the chapel is beautifully illuminated, creating a magical atmosphere for a pleasant evening.

Whether you come to Oščadnica for excellent skiing or mountain hiking, be sure to make time for a walk to the tiny chapel on the hill. And if the nature of Kysuce charms you, you can take a trip to Rozhľadňa Dedovka, which will reward you with a gorgeous view of the entire surroundings. Or are you in the mood for a pleasant dose of adrenaline? Take your mountain bike with you and visit Bike Park Veľká Rača, where tracks of various difficulty levels are prepared for visitors. The bike park is part of the Snow Paradise Veľká Rača – Oščadnica resort, which you have certainly heard of. Lyžiarske stredisko Oravské Veselé

Lyžiarske stredisko Oravské Veselé

Oravské Veselé

Orava is among the coldest places in Slovakia. That is something that will particularly please winter lovers and skiing enthusiasts in particular. Recent years have been characterized by warmer winters with less snow. Despite this, Orava currently represents a bright exception, and you can look forward to plenty of snow here throughout the entire winter.

One of the villages that cannot complain about a lack of winter is Oravské Veselé. It is located almost at the very edge of Slovakia, just a few kilometers north of the town of Námestovo and near the border with Poland. This region was uninhabited for a long time; it experienced harsh winters and poorer harvests. However, the real wealth was hidden in the mountains and forests, which offered an abundance of wood. It was thanks to timber logging that the first inhabitants settled between Pilsko and Babia hora.

The village had its highest population at the beginning of the twentieth century, but a lack of jobs and poor living conditions drove many locals out into the world. Today, only the most loyal countrymen remain here, which is why you will encounter extraordinary warmheartedness throughout the entire Orava region.

If you are looking for a quiet skiing holiday at great prices, the Oravské Veselé ski resort is an ideal choice for you. It is a smaller resort, but one where you can ski to your heart's content with your whole family and friends.

The top of the slope is located at an altitude of 780 meters above sea level. This is not much, but combined with the harsh conditions in Orava, concerns about having enough snow are out of place. The length of the ski lift is just under 500 meters. This lift enjoys great popularity, especially among locals, whom you will meet most frequently on the slope.

The slope is well-balanced and suitable for families with children. In the lower section, children can learn or hone their skiing skills. Meanwhile, parents can enjoy a snappier ride on the track, which is regularly groomed by a snowcat. Large families will be pleased by one more thing: ski pass prices. For what you would pay at a famous resort for a single day, the whole family can ski in Oravské Veselé.

In addition to the ski resort, its immediate surroundings are also worth mentioning. For example, the town of Námestovo or Tvrdošín. In the latter, you will find a gorgeous all-wooden church, which is even inscribed on the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage list. Well-known attractions include the majestic Oravská priehrada reservoir or the forest railway in Nová Bystrica. If you want to ski on other slopes in Orava, visit Oravská Lesná or nearby Zázrivá. Both offer top-notch skiing at more than reasonable prices.

There is plenty of accommodation capacity to choose from directly in the village of Oravské Veselé. More demanding tourists will certainly choose accommodation in a guesthouse. Private rentals or increasingly popular mountain cabins are equally attractive choices. Some of them are in close proximity to the ski resort, and you will be just a few steps from the slope. Treat yourself to peace and quiet and the authentic Orava atmosphere during your ski holiday in the wonderful surroundings of Oravské Veselé.

In addition to a unique historical exhibition offering a return to the history of the village, this site can also become the backdrop for your photos or even the venue for your romantic and adventurous night in the museum.

Izba starých materí is the result of a small exhibition of historical artifacts that the village of Párnica organized on the occasion of its 590th anniversary. It is built in a gentry (zemiansky) style, and all original decorative elements have been preserved. Ranks of local volunteers who value the heritage of their ancestors participated in its reconstruction.

The exhibition itself consists of 230 historical artifacts donated or loaned to the museum by citizens and natives of the village of Párnica. Here, you can visit a countryside room, a barn, and a separate room with period documents, including photographs illustrating life in the village throughout past years. A true gem of the building is a hand-painted chest from 1908. Among the most interesting artifacts is a military trunk with its original contents, a school chronicle, a savings book from Tatra banka from 1940, as well as a historical document from 1943, likely a predecessor of today's prenuptial agreement.

If you feel like traveling back in time and creating pleasant memories of your adventure in the form of photos, you can rent Izba starých materí for such an interesting photoshoot.
