Meander park Oravice

Oravice

Dreaming of visiting a modern aquapark, but a completely different one from all the rest? Of a park somewhere at the end of the world, where there is no rush or crowds of people in the middle of nature? In that case, we recommend Oravice. Once they were an ordinary Orava village not far from the Polish border, but it is precisely Meander Park Oravice that makes them exceptional.

You will find Oravice just a few kilometers from the gateway to the Západné Tatry, Zuberec. The resort is truly modern and creates an interesting contrast with the surrounding nature and majestic mountains. In Thermalpark Oravice, you will find something for everyone, whether you are a swimmer or just want to pleasantly relax in the water. And do not worry that you won't have fun in the water, for example in winter or cold weather. Right in the village, there is also a beautiful ski resort, thanks to which you can slip directly from the ski slope into warm thermal water.

But let's introduce Meander Park Oravice in more detail. The center of the resort is one large, truly large sports and relaxation pool. In one pool, you will find massage benches, jets, and a water mushroom. The second part is intended for good swimmers. The swimming part of the pool has a length of 25 m, which will satisfy everyone. But if perchance such swimming were not enough, you can also use artificial waves. You will feel as if you are on the open sea, and the small waves will gently play with you. You will also find other relaxation pools here, where all sorts of jets and whirlpools will caress you. Some of the pools are interconnected, so you can get from one to the other without having to leave the water. Pleasant warm water is a given in each of the pools. The warmest is in the geothermal pool, where the water temperature reaches up to 38 °C. Your little ones will let off steam in the small children's pool, into which they can stylishly slide down via a small slide. At the same time, a new, spacious children's corner is also available to them, located on the first floor of the aquapark, right next to the café.

And for the most demanding ones, we have something extra. The highest luxury, the maximum enjoyment of the water, you will experience in the whirlpool pool, in the pearl bath. Such pools are prepared for you right two, and be sure not to miss them. In the pearl bath, you will relax to the maximum, but if you want to get your blood pumping, you can head to one of the tobogans. Competitors will be pleased by the duo racer with an automatic timekeeper.

To make the care of your body complete, Meander Park Oravice also offers a sauna stay. If you have never treated yourself to any of this before, in Oravice it can be for the first time. This aquapark offers a modern facility at a high level, and cashless payment for everything in the buffets or restaurants is a matter of course. At the entrance, you will get a bracelet, payments are counted onto it, and you will pay them conveniently upon departure. Moreover, in Oravice, they also think of families; with children, you can enjoy a unique experience in thermal water at specially discounted prices. Oravice gives you one more reason why you should visit the beautiful Orava.

Náučný chodník Tiesňava Juráňova dolina

Oravice

Educational trails as such are mostly educational routes for tourists. One such trail is Tiesňava Juráňova dolina starting from Oravice, which belongs to the most beautiful valleys in Slovakia. It is no wonder that tourists seek it out for its variety, ease, and unique views.

Plan a trip along the Tiesňava Juráňova dolina educational trail. It is a short, approximately 8-kilometer loop that begins and ends directly in Oravice. The hike itself is planned through the rázcestie pod Čistým grúňom junction, the rázcestie pod Šatanovou – Juráňova dolina junction, into the mouth of the sedlo Umrlá pass, further to the rázcestie pod Umrlou junction, continues through the beautiful Bobrovecká dolina valley, passes through the rázcestie pod Suchou dolinou junction again, and ends directly in Oravice.

A very characteristic feature of this valley is the occurrence of many caves created by the dissolution of limestones and dolomites by rainwater. On a total of 5 information boards, you can absorb interesting information, for example, all the depicted blooming gems of the valley as well as the occurrence of wild animals. The total elevation gain along the trail is 170 meters, making this route suitable for families with children. We estimate that these approximately 11 kilometers will take about 3 hours of your time.

Enjoy the occasionally perpendicular rock walls over Juráňov potok stream, discover the beauty of stunning nature, and recharge your strength and energy from nature. Of course, you can experience all of this during the main season, from June to November. After that, a seasonal closure takes effect. After all, safety comes first.

This trail was opened back in 1986, and its panels were reconstructed in 1992. What you will certainly see along the route are the steep limestone walls of the gorge, craggy relief, "giant" potholes, as well as a continuous dwarf pine complex in Central Europe. If you would like to have some more fun, feel free to take a dip in the mineral springs at the termálne kúpalisko Oravice thermal park.

To explore the Orava region as such, it is most convenient for you to book accommodation near the Tiesňava Juráňova dolina educational trail. You might also appreciate the proximity of cottages and chalets in Oravice or another type of accommodation in Oravice. Of course, it is up to you. You can also plan a trip along the Náučný chodník Antona Kocyana trail or to the Skorušina observation tower. Ski centrum Zverovka - Spálená dolina

Zuberec

Vysoké Tatry have Tatranská Lomnica and Štrbské Pleso. Nízke Tatry have Jasná. These are modern and relatively extensive ski resorts designed for all groups of skiers. Can the Západné Tatry compete with them? Thanks to the Zverovka – Spálená dolina ski resort, we can answer affirmatively.

It is located in the middle of the beautiful and majestic Západné Tatry, the Roháče. You can get directly under the slopes by car, but if the parking lot is full, you can leave your vehicle near the Chata Zverovka and Chata Osobitá chalets. The Zverovka – Spálená ski resort lies in Spálená dolina under Salatín, one of the most beautiful peaks of the Západné Tatry. Overall, the resort is located in perhaps the most picturesque environment, and rest assured that live it is even more beautiful than in photos.

Zverovka – Spálená is a unique resort precisely because of the composition of its slopes. It can accommodate all skiers because there are slopes of every category. Children can ski on an easy trail, parents on an intermediate one, and those who want more can head to the black, most demanding slope.

Right at the entrance to the resort, there are two of the total three ski lifts. These lifts serve the blue, least demanding slopes. For steeper slopes, you have to head higher up, but we guarantee it will be worth it. From the nearly 1.5 km long chairlift, fantastic views of the Roháče massif and Salatín open up. You will feel as if you were somewhere in the Alps. From the top station of the chairlift, an intermediate section leads down. In this section, there is also a nearly 900-meter long ski lift. At the end of the resort's longest slope, you can choose a less steep alternative or a challenging black slope.

The entire resort is regularly maintained and groomed. Natural snow is left only on the black section of the slope. Naturally, artificial snowmaking is available, thanks to which even mild frosts are enough to ensure plenty of snow in Zverovka – Spálená. On 5 kilometers of slopes, you won't have time to get bored.

Absolute beginners can learn to ski in the ski school or snowboard in the snowboard school. In Zverovka – Spálená, they truly think of everyone. Among the resort's other facilities, we can mention restaurants with quality cuisine or snack bars offering many quick specialties.

Accommodation options are also diverse. Despite the location high in the mountains, you have plenty to choose from. Right by the slope lies a tourist lodge, but extremely cozy cottages are also available. In the wider surroundings, numerous private rentals or increasingly popular apartments are scattered in the nearby villages of Zuberec and Habovka. Roháčske plesá

Roháčske plesá

Zuberec

Roháčske plesá belong to the most touristically attractive places in Západné Tatry. They rank among the most beautiful locations in these mountains. The four Roháčske plesá tarns (Veľké, Druhé, Tretie, and Horné Roháčske pleso) are surrounded by massive Tatra peaks such as Rákoň, Volovec, Ostrý Roháč, Plačlivé, and Baníkov.

The lakes are located at an altitude of 1,562 to 1,719 meters above sea level and are connected by the Roháčsky potok stream. The tarns can be reached from Chata Zverovka or from the central parking lot Zverovka - Spálená dolina.

The best way to see this area is to set out along the Náučný chodník Roháčske plesá educational trail. The trail starts in Roháčska dolina, continues through the junctions Šindľovec and Adamcuľa to Ťatliakova chata and Ťatliakovo jazero, and further through Smutná dolina all the way to Tretie Roháčske pleso. It is a medium-difficulty route, 7 kilometers long with an elevation gain of 620 meters. Eight information boards are placed along the trail; in addition to the tarns, they are also dedicated to flora and fauna, avalanches, and water. The trail is accessible only seasonally from June 15 to October 31. Up to Ťatliakova chata, the path is designated as suitable for wheelchair users.

Interesting flora occurs in the surroundings of the tarns. For example, the very rare plant narrow-leaved bur-reed (ježohlav úzkolistý) grows there, which, apart from certain Tatra tarns, cannot be found anywhere else. Among animals, chamois or marmots can be spotted.

Benches and wooden tables are placed around Roháčske plesá, serving for rest and the consumption of your own snacks. Those who arrived without their own provisions will appreciate the services of Ťatliakova chata. A short detour leads from the educational trail route to the 23-meter-high Roháčsky vodopád waterfall.

If Roháčske plesá are the goal of your trip, you will certainly appreciate accommodation in Zuberec, which is an ideal starting point for this excursion. The most common type of accommodation facilities are cottages and wooden chalets, but cozy private accommodations, guest houses, or hotels are also available. Any group of visitors is guaranteed to find what suits them best, regardless of whether you are a family with children or an outdoor school group.

Ski centrum Zuberec - Janovky

Zuberec

Going skiing in the Tatras does not have to mean only skiing in the Vysoké Tatry. How about heading to the Západné Tatry? These are called Roháče and, just like their more famous sisters, they offer plenty of ski resorts for all skiers.

To enjoy skiing in the Ski centrum Zuberec - Janovky, you will need to visit Orava. The resort lies practically right in Zuberec, which serves as the gateway to the entire Západné Tatry. You will find it a few kilometers south of the Oravská priehrada reservoir, and you can also get here from Dolný Kubín.

Every year, Orava is exceptionally rich in snowfall, thanks to which you will find high snowdrifts in Zuberec throughout the entire winter. A severe winter and plenty of snow are the foundation the ski resort builds upon, but for good measure, the entire area is also artificially snowed. It spans an altitude of 750 – 955 meters above sea level. It does not rank among the highest-altitude resorts, which is more of an advantage, as the resort is intended for beginners and intermediate skiers.

There are 4 ski lifts in the resort. Most of the slopes are blue, which represents the easiest difficulty. You do not have to be afraid to hit the blue slope even if you are just starting out with skiing or have small children. If you already have some skiing experience under your belt, you will certainly like the red, medium-difficulty slope.

The Janovky resort boasts a fairly substantial total slope length, reaching up to 4.5 kilometers. You will definitely not get bored. If Janovky still were not enough for you, you can also visit the neighboring ski resort Zuberec - Milotín, where you will find additional interesting slopes. Everyone will surely be pleased that tickets purchased in one resort are also valid in the other.

In Janovky, you will also find well-maintained cross-country skiing trails. The ski resort takes care of maintaining up to 8 kilometers of these tracks. Children will enjoy themselves in the ski school.

The surroundings of Zuberec offer many other leisure opportunities. The most famous ski resort in the area is the nearby Zverovka – Spálená dolina. After a demanding day full of skiing, relaxation in hot thermal water will certainly hit the spot. You can find such water in Oravice, famous for the wonderful thermal aquapark Meander Park. And finally, we must mention winter hiking. With a guide and on snowshoes, you will reach beautiful places you never even knew existed.

Zuberec is the most significant tourist center in the region. You will even find an open-air museum (skanzen) here, which regularly attracts crowds of visitors. Due to the popularity of this village, you do not have to worry about suitable accommodation. Throughout the entire village, there are more than enough guesthouses, modern wellness hotels, as well as simple tourist hostels and affordable private rooms. Cyklochodník Trstená - Nowy Targ

Cyklochodník Trstená - Nowy Targ

Trstená

Since 2015, Slovakia and Poland have been connected by the Cyklochodník Trstená - Nowy Targ cycle path. Take your two-wheeled companion on a relatively easy cycling trail and make the most of a sunny day in Orava.

The official name of the cycle route is Historicko-prírodno-kultúrna cesta okolo Tatier (Historical-Nature-Cultural Trail Around the Tatras), also known as Oravská Cyklomagistrála. The cycle route begins in the town of Trstená and ends in Nowy Targ. The total elevation gain on the route is 180 meters, making it accessible for families with children as well. The total length of a one-way trip is 40 km; therefore, if you decide to head straight back without staying in one of the accommodation facilities in Nowy Targ, you will cover a total of 80 km.

Hop on your bikes directly in Trstená and follow the smooth asphalt road, 2 to 4 meters wide, straight toward Poland. You will pass Liesek with a drinking water source, Čimhová, Vitanová, Hladovka, and Suchá Hora. The latter is right on the border with our neighbors. Should you feel tired or need to replenish your energy, numerous rest areas with magnificent panoramic views of Západné Tatry await you along the trail. A total of 11 information boards with various interesting facts are placed along the entire route. You can also come across a Stations of the Cross in Liesek on our side, with another one located in Poland. So put your feet on the pedals of your e-bike or traditional bicycle and push on!

After crossing the border, the route continues through the villages of Koniówka, Podczerwone, Czarny Dunajec, Wróblówka, Rogoźnik, Ludźmierz, and ends in the aforementioned Nowy Targ. If you are not a recreational cyclist and prefer new challenges, you can also connect to another cycle route from this trail, for example to Zakopané.

An interesting feature of the route is that it runs along the embankment of a former railway line that previously connected these two towns. In some sections, you can even catch a glimpse of an old railway station, so there is no need to be surprised. A great advantage in the town of Trstená is the bike storage box, allowing you to set off on a hiking trip in the surrounding area.

We trust that you will give your leg muscles a great workout and crash happily from fatigue at one of the accommodation places near Cyklochodník Trstená - Nowy Targ. It might be a great idea to check out several other interesting attractions in Orava right away. For instance, you can head to Rozhľadňa Borová lookout tower; although it lies in a slightly different direction, it offers beautiful views for a couple in love. Combining business with pleasure feels great, and after an active day, you can enjoy the wellness facilities or pools at Meander park Oravice. Choose your accommodation based on your criteria. The MegaUbytovanie.sk portal can offer you a truly wide range of choices.

Sivý vrch

Sivý vrch

Zuberec

Sivý vrch is an impressive rocky peak in the Západné Tatry mountains. It is accessible from Bobrovecká dolina in Liptov or from the villages of Zuberec or Huty in Orava. Thanks to its rocky surface, it is considered one of the most beautiful peaks in this part of the Tatras.

Sivý vrch lies at an altitude of 1,805 m above sea level. Here, you will find over 500 species of plants, some of which are truly rare, as they do not occur anywhere else in Slovakia. For example, carnations (pinks), saffron, and gentians grow here. The geomorphological structure and rugged relief make Sivý vrch a paradise for botanists. If you set out for Sivý vrch from the Orava side, it will take you less time. From the village of Huty, the journey to the summit will take you approximately 2.5 hours. Start your hike from the forester's lodge below Biela skala, which is the starting point for many trails in the Západné Tatry mountains.

A steep climb will take you to the crags above Hutnianske sedlo. Here, according to legend, you might discover Jánošík's hidden treasure. Even if you don't find it, no worries. The treasure for you will be the views in all directions, as the path to Sivý vrch continues along the ridge. On this route, you will pass Radové skaly. An interesting natural phenomenon reminiscent of human figures. All the way to the top of Sivý vrch, you will tackle an elevation gain of over 1,000 vertical meters.

An alternative ascent to Sivý vrch is from the Liptov side from the village of Bobrovec, or Jalovec. From the parking lot at Bobrovecká vápenica, you will first head along an asphalt road. Right at the beginning, you can admire the rock faces of the peaks Mních and Sokol. The hiking trail will then lead you to Chata pod Náružím. The residents of Bobrovec value it greatly because it was built with their own hands by local volunteers, and almost every family in Bobrovec contributed to it. Today, it is managed by the municipality, and local hut keepers rotate there. This route is somewhat longer. You will reach Sivý vrch in approximately 4 hours. On the way down, you can also make a loop over the peak Babky (1,566 m a.s.l.), which is particularly popular with photographers due to its panoramic views.

In both cases, the hike can be managed by intermediate hikers. However, such a trip is not entirely suitable for small children due to the length of the route, steep sections, loose rock near the top, and, in the case of the ascent from the Orava side, several chains. Therefore, do not forget sturdy footwear, plenty of fluids, and be sure to check the weather forecast before the hike. In the rain, the trails are very slippery and sections can be dangerous. During sunny weather, however, you will not be able to get enough of the surrounding beauty.

Majestic Sivý vrch is a dominant feature of the Západné Tatry mountains and a popular destination for tourists. If you are a hiking enthusiast, we have prepared more tips for peaks in the Tatras for you. It is definitely worth spending a vacation in this area. Our portal will take care of accommodation. We offer you quality accommodation in the Západné Tatry mountains, and you will certainly also find accommodation near Sivý vrch. Whether you are looking for cottages, apartments, or guesthouses, you have plenty to choose from on our page.

Drevený gotický kostol Všetkých svätých

Drevený gotický kostol Všetkých svätých

Tvrdošín

The wooden Kostol Všetkých svätých church in Tvrdošín is the oldest surviving architectural monument in the town. This church is the only one in Slovakia to boast the EUROPA NOSTRA award from 1995 and, at the same time, an inscription on the UNESCO World Cultural and Natural Heritage List from 2008.

The history of the church dates back to the 15th century. Later, in the 17th century, specifically between 1650 and 1653–1654, it was rebuilt in the Renaissance style. Rare is the Baroque altar, which originates from the turn of the 17th and 18th centuries and replaced a smaller Gothic altar. Some of its fragments are housed in the Oravská galéria in Dolný Kubín, as well as in the Museum of Fine Arts in Budapest. Behind the Baroque altar is a painted church curtain that symbolically divides the depiction of the sky.

Other gems in the interior of the church include a Late Renaissance pulpit featuring figures of the Evangelists (1654), a painted stallum (1654), a painting of St. George, and paintings of the Apostles. The incredible and at the same time mysterious atmosphere is sensitively enhanced by vaulted paintings depicting a starry sky and angels. Visitors will be captivated by the coffered ceiling consisting of 49 ornamental rosettes. The entire noble design of the church is underlined by heavy entrance doors with forged iron handles. These were originally painted with ornaments as well, just like the door to the sacristy. The church underwent extensive reconstruction and restoration work in 1993.

The church is located in a pleasant, quiet spot slightly above the town of Tvrdošín, near the cemetery. Even just sitting for a moment and immersing yourself in your own thoughts acts almost like a balm for the soul. It is advisable to arrange a tour in advance.

Find quality accommodation near the wooden Kostol Všetkých svätých church and combine your visit with other attractions in the area. Take a multi-day trip to the attractions in Tvrdošín and you will experience a truly wonderful holiday. Beautiful nature, rich history, and above all, a breathtaking wooden church that has no equal. These are the main draws of the area that you will experience when you book a stay on the accommodation Tvrdošín page.

The water reservoir Oravská priehrada extends at the confluence of the Biela and Čierna Orava rivers near the town of Námestovo. During its construction, a part of this town was flooded, which is why we will not find its historical center here. However, Oravská priehrada is a popular tourist destination where it is worthwhile to spend your holiday.

The decision to build Oravská priehrada was made due to numerous floods in this area. Especially during the period of snow melting, people in the territory of these rivers lost their dwellings. Among the flooded villages was also Slanica. Today, only the peak of Slanický ostrov, divided into 2 parts: Ostrov umeňa and Vtáčí ostrov, protrudes from the water. The islands are connected, and in the case of low water levels, it is possible to walk from one to the other. You will find a Roman Catholic church here with an exhibition of Orava folk art. Festive concerts are organized in it from time to time.

By building the dam wall in 1953, a power plant located beneath it was put into operation. Behind the wall, the river confluences merge and continue to flow as one, the well-known Orava river. Part of the water work is also the balancing reservoir in the town of Tvrdošín. Oravská priehrada is not only a functional result but also an interesting place for a holiday. A large number of accommodation facilities have been built around the lake: cottages, guesthouses, apartments, or camping sites. Truly everyone can choose.

Tourists like to come here for entertainment or water sports. Sightseeing boats operate here, you can go boating, windsurfing, rent a water bike or the increasingly popular paddleboard. Harsh climatic conditions prevailing in Orava made life difficult for locals for centuries. During harsh winters, staying warm and securing food was a struggle. If you are an avid skier, you will appreciate all these former hardships. After all, you want piles of snow and well-groomed slopes with plenty of natural snow, don't you? And that is precisely what you will find in Orava.

Just a few kilometers from the famous Oravská priehrada dam lies the town of Tvrdošín. You may have heard of it. It is famous above all for its all-wooden church, which is even listed as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site. Neighboring Tvrdošín is the village of Nižná nad Oravou. Advanced skiers will certainly find plenty to enjoy as well, with a red, medium-difficulty slope of grand proportions prepared for them. Medvedia štôlňa

Medvedia štôlňa

Žiar (okres Liptovský Mikuláš)

Medvedia štôlňa in Žiarska dolina is the only old mining site in Liptov that is open to the public. Žiarska dolina is located at the end of the village of Žiar in the Liptovský Mikuláš district, in the Západné Tatry mountains. It is one of the most visited valleys in Liptov, both in summer and in winter.

The adit ranks among the rarities of old mining works in the Tatras. Its length is up to 550 m, making it the longest among them. It was officially opened to the public in 2012 and has since belonged among the very popular Liptov attractions. Given that the mine follows a quartz vein, it is assumed that precious metals, likely gold, were once mined here.

The name may confuse some. It is not called "bear" because it used to be a bear's den. For a long time, a tourist information board stood near its entrance warning that visitors were entering an area where bears occur in abundance. And because the board and the entrance to the mine were indeed close to each other, the name of the adit was clear.

During a visit to the underground, various emotions will sweep through you, and you will take away a lifelong experience. Moving by the light of a burning oil lamp, feeling the cold and humidity, hearing the echo of every step and rustle—it is simply something unique. Absolutely all your senses will awaken.

For children, setting out into the land of the legendary underground realm Aghartha is a great experience. One of the stops is right in Medvedia štôlňa in Žiar, near St. Barbara, the patron saint of miners. Collect a coin, a confirmation for your map, and off you go to other parts of the fairy-tale land. Netopierikovo, Mincovníčkovo, and Permoníkovo are still waiting for you. It is great fun full of adventures.

You can get almost all the way to the adit by car, parking approximately 200 m from its entrance. If the article caught your interest, we recommend booking accommodation near Medvedia štôlňa right away. Get inspired, for example, on the page accommodation Žiar or accommodation Liptovský Mikuláš; both locations are very good starting points for a trip. Moreover, attractions in Liptov are each better than the last. Whether you want to rest, hike up hills, relax by swimming in warm water, enjoy great skiing, or learn interesting information in a museum, you will experience all of this in this place. Liptov has almost unlimited options for fun.

Poľovníkov vodopád

Poľovníkov vodopád

Bobrovec

Less than 6 km above the well-known Liptov village of Bobrovec, you will find a popular spot among local residents, cyclists, and runners. In winter, you can even reach Poľovníkov vodopád on cross-country skis. Although the trails are not mechanically groomed, local enthusiasts keep a beaten track open. This easy walk is suitable for young and old alike, younger or older, and thanks to a new asphalt road, for families with strollers.

The spacious village of Bobrovec is located just a few minutes by car or bus from the town of Liptovský Mikuláš. From Bobrovec, you can comfortably reach Bobrovecká dolina on foot, by bicycle, or by car, which you can leave at the free parking lot in Bobrovecká Vápenica. Others can use the bus service, which will take you to the village of Jalovec, approximately 2 km above Bobrovec, and continue your half-day hike on foot.

From the aforementioned Bobrovecká Vápenica, a renovated asphalt road with a gentle incline leads to the waterfall, which is also known as Poľovnícky vodopád or Bobrovecký vodopád. Approximately halfway along the route, at the edge of the forest, the ascent becomes gentler or almost flat. Initially, majestic peaks of the Západné Tatry rise before you, such as Babky or Sivý vrch. Later along the way, you can enjoy nearby meadows, pastures, and, with good visibility, a view of the Vodná nádrž Liptovská Mara.

After about three quarters of an hour, you will arrive at your destination. The waterfall is located less than 100 m from the road. You do not have to worry about missing this natural beauty. In front of the waterfall stands a hunting cabin that welcomes you to this sought-after attraction with its motto "Hore zdar!". The approach to the waterfall has an uphill character, but your reward will be the Stará voda stream falling from a height of 12 m. A small pool has formed beneath the rocky cliff down which the waterfall flows. Although the icy water may initially deter you, believe that after a walk, especially on hot summer days, a quick dip is a great refreshment. The braver ones can enjoy the power of a mountain shower directly under the waterfall. In winter, the swift flow of water turns into a massive icefall. The snow-covered and frozen surrounding nature holds a unique charm. So do not forget to bring a sled for your walk, which you will especially use on the return trip and the gentle descent back to Bobrovecká Vápenica.

Cyclists can continue along a popular cycling route that will take you all the way to the village of Liptovské Matiašovce. Hikers on foot will return along the same route. Halfway between Bobrovecká Vápenica and the village of Bobrovec stands the traditional Salaš Pastierska. Stop for a moment and, in addition to traditional products such as cheeses, bryndza (sheep milk cheese), or žinčica (boiled sheep whey), enjoy the peaceful nature. Right above Bobrovec, you can stop by a small but popular water reservoir. Originally, the reservoir served to irrigate the surrounding fields. The Bejvoč water reservoir, as the locals nickname it, has been used for swimming for a few decades, although bathing is at your own risk. Rich greenery and the murmur of the mountain Jalovecký potok, which is the source of clean and refreshing water in the reservoir, predestine this place for relaxation and rest.

If natural water does not appeal to you and you would rather enjoy thermal springs, visit the most famous water park, Tatralandia, located less than 10 minutes by car from Bobrovec. A multitude of pools and water attractions guarantee a well-spent day. For adrenaline enthusiasts, we have an interesting tip: try flying in the wind tunnel at Hurricane Factory Tatralandia, located right next to the water park. Families with children can look forward to ZOOKONTAKT, which guarantees that you will not be bored here.

So, have you already planned your trip itinerary? Are you looking for accommodation near Poľovníkov vodopád? Choose from our selection of cozy cottages or wooden cabins, or find your comfort in one of the apartments. Book your stay and enjoy everything a holiday in Liptov has to offer.

Jazda na tanku Podbiel

Jazda na tanku Podbiel

Podbiel

It may seem like something out of a sci-fi movie to you, but the opposite is true. Letting loose on an adrenaline-pumping tank ride in the village of Podbiel is amazing. This village in Orava will win you over precisely because of this experience. We recommend coming as a larger group, two families with children or a group of friends.

Getting carried away on an armored personnel carrier of an infantry fighting vehicle is great. Put simply, you ride a tank. Every enthusiast seeking something unconventional will be thrilled. Right before boarding the ride, you will receive a brief briefing and off you go. This 13-ton vehicle, 7 meters in length and reaching a maximum speed of 65 km/h, will captivate you. Streams, forest, demanding and rugged terrain…

Can't imagine it? No problem, book your first ride during the summer holidays. A minimum of 8, a maximum of 20 passengers, and a total ride of 3 kilometers. The attraction is thus suitable for team building, or as part of one of the activities during a stay in Northern Slovakia. You will see what joy you bring yourself with this experience. Even several years later, you will remember how you held on tightly with your hands to the metal armored vehicle.

An interesting thing about the ride is that for an unforgettable experience, it is good to choose the right spot. Inside the tank, metal tubes, grab bars, are installed across 5 sections. Children under one meter tall board the first section. This is for their better view thanks to an installed bench. In the second section, larger children and pregnant women are placed. The third section is laid-back. In the fourth and fifth sections, it feels like a party full of dancing.

We believe that this ride will entertain you and that you will feel like exploring Podbiel from its other sides as well. Consider the possibility of finding accommodation near the tank ride or in its surroundings. A somewhat less demanding activity is a walk through the complex of original folk architecture, Pamiatková rezervácia Bobrova raľa or raft logging on wooden rafts. We recommend booking accommodation in Podbiel well in advance; after all, traditional Podbielske drevenice cottages are very popular.

Vyhliadkové plavby loďou po Oravskej priehrade

Vyhliadkové plavby loďou po Oravskej priehrade

Námestovo

A sightseeing boat cruise on Oravská priehrada is one of the interesting options to spice up your trip in this picturesque region. Whether you are a group of friends looking for adventure, seniors on a relaxing holiday, or a family with children on an active trip, you are guaranteed to enjoy the boat.

Oravská priehrada lies in the north of Slovakia, in the popular and sought-after Orava region. In addition to swimming in the reservoir, you can also try some less traditional entertainment. Yachting, windsurfing, or perhaps just a boat cruise. So, will you let yourself be persuaded?

During the cruise, you will enjoy views of the beauty of the surrounding area, as well as the Západné Tatry and Babia hora. It is interesting to look at the shore from the opposite side; it gives a feeling of a „holiday vibe“. During the cruise, you will also have the opportunity to discover Slanický ostrov umenia, where you will make a 25-minute stop during the cruise. It is a beautiful place that stands here as a remnant of the flooded village of Slanica. It features plenty of greenery, the preserved Kostol Povýšenia sv. Kríža, the torso of the original cemetery, and a lapidarium of „Oravská kamenárska tvorba 18. a 19. storočia“.

However, you do not have to view the sightseeing cruise strictly just as a tour of the surroundings from the water surface. Lyžiarske stredisko Račkova dolina

Lyžiarske stredisko Račkova dolina

Pribylina

High mountains are made for hikers, skiers, and all nature lovers in general. One of our most famous mountain ranges is Západné Tatry. Its high peaks are exceptionally attractive to tourists from all over Slovakia. Climbing peaks such as Baníkov or Ostrý Roháč is a dream for many. And right beneath these peaks, you will find the picturesque Račkova dolina, where you can enjoy great skiing.

The valley is located in Západné Tatry. Since Račkova dolina is a popular recreational resort, access to it is very easy. Just a short distance away is the village of Pribylina, known primarily for its famous open-air museum, featuring a tour of traditional dwellings and crafts of the Liptov region's inhabitants.

The beginning of the valley sits at an altitude of 960 meters above sea level, with the top of the resort reaching 1,100 meters above sea level. The ski resort itself is not among the largest or most famous. And that is precisely a huge asset for skiers. You won't find crowds of people, overcrowded slopes, or lines at the ski lifts here.

A pair of ski lifts and a pair of slopes await you here. They are designed for a wide spectrum of skiers, mainly due to the medium difficulty profile of the trails. Their total length is 1.4 km, and the entire resort is equipped with an artificial snowmaking system.

The foothills of Západné Tatry are interesting for more than just downhill skiers. For cross-country skiers, long kilometers of groomed trails are available.

It goes without saying that the ski resort includes supplementary services such as a refreshment kiosk, ski equipment rental, and a comprehensive range of accommodation services.

The nature here is truly beautiful. In the immediate vicinity, there is no shortage of high-quality services and attractions for everyone. A good tip for a trip around Liptov is, for example, Demänovské jaskyne. This region is exceptionally welcoming to relaxation enthusiasts. Visit the modern aquapark in Bešeňová, where an interesting water slide tower has been added, or head to the most famous aquapark in Slovakia, Tatralandia. A variety of pools, water slides, whirlpools, and water jets are the best thing you can treat yourself to after a great day of skiing.

Accommodation options in Račkova dolina are exceptionally wide-ranging. The local campsite is popular, and for more demanding guests, several mountain hotels are at your service. Further accommodation options in the area are offered by the villages in the foothills, where you can choose from various private rentals or guesthouses.

Račkova dolina is a well-known hiking destination, yet its slopes remain relatively undiscovered. If you enjoy undisturbed skiing in beautiful surroundings, you don't have to look any further.

Červená skala v Podbieli

Červená skala v Podbieli

Podbiel

The village of Podbiel lies at the confluence of the Orava and Studená rivers, in the district of Tvrdošín. One of the greatest sights of this distinctive village is undoubtedly the impressive natural phenomenon, Červená skala, which rises proudly above the surface of the Orava river. It attracts tourists not only with its color, but also with a unique view of the village accompanied by picturesque natural scenery of watercourses, dominated in the background by Roháče. This millions-of-years-old limestone gem conceals yet another magical secret: fascinating fossils that will certainly not escape your keen eye if you accept an invitation to take a walk to this enchanting place.

Červená skala is located at an altitude of 690 m above sea level. It is part of the Pieniny Klippen Belt (karpatský bradlový systém). It consists of limestones formed back in the Jurassic and Cretaceous periods, an incredible 195 to 65 million years ago. Remarkably, the rock was likely a deep-sea sediment, standing today as proof that Podbiel and the adjacent area were once submerged under the sea. Fossilized imprints of ammonites near the information board below Červená skala further prove this. Ammonites were shelled marine cephalopods that went extinct 65 million years ago.

Červená skala is a true magnet for tourists. The ascent is easy and takes approximately 40 minutes. The starting point is the village of Podbiel, from where you set out along the blue-marked hiking trail. The final climb to the top of the rock leads up wooden steps. Here, a unique panoramic view of the village and surrounding nature will welcome you. It is only at this spot that many realize the village sits almost like on a peninsula formed by two rivers.

And what would a magical rock like Červená skala be without an interesting local legend? In Podbiel, it is said that besides animal fossils, a fossilized human body was also found on Červená skala. However, the finders broke it apart out of curiosity to see what lay inside. A portion of the head saved by a local teacher was then transferred to a museum in Budapest. Yet no one knows exactly which museum it was supposed to be, so the legend remains just a legend. However, Červená skala is very real. If you do not believe it, come see for yourself directly in Podbiel.

And once you visit this picturesque corner of Orava, be sure not to miss a trip to another interesting crag, Biela skala. It is a cliff made of Cretaceous limestones, on top of which a prehistoric hillfort once stood in the past. Or would you prefer a museum visit? The small Podbielanské etnografické múzeum will guide you through the history of this distinctive Orava village via its collection. And if you still crave a bit of adventure, head out from Podbiel towards Zuberec. Along the way, you will come across a location where you can try an experiential Jazda na tanku (tank ride). A real armored personnel carrier will take you on a journey through rugged terrain that will make your blood run cold. Book your accommodation near Červená skala in Podbiel now and set out to explore Orava. Accommodation in Podbiel and its surroundings will guaranteed delight you with a wide selection of chalets and cottages, offering something for everyone.

Podbiel - Pod Pálenicou

Podbiel - Pod Pálenicou

Podbiel

We will introduce you to another picturesque corner of Orava, which you may have already visited without even knowing it. At the very least, you have certainly heard of Oravská priehrada or the town of Tvrdošín. If you have made the journey here, you most likely passed through the Orava village of Podbiel.

Podbiel lies on the main road connecting Dolný Kubín with Tvrdošín. A few kilometers before it lies Oravský Podzámok. It is famous mainly for the iconic Oravský hrad, which towers on a high rocky cliff. The village was inhabited mainly by Vlachs (valasi), and the locals were engaged in forestry work. The village has therefore preserved its typical architecture, and you will find many original wooden cabins here. After a hearty day of skiing, you can just stroll through the evening streets between the wooden houses and feel as if you were among the sets of an old Slovak movie.

One of the smaller ski resorts is the one in Podbiel, in the Pod Pálenicou area. It is a small and simple municipal ski resort. If you demand low prices and do not want to wait in line for a lift, you are in the right place. Moreover, you will avoid crowds, parking issues, and other inconveniences associated with visiting larger ski resorts. The top of the resort's slope is at an altitude of 665 meters above sea level. The Podbiel Pod Pálenicou ski resort is not equipped with an artificial snowmaking system, so you will always ski on natural snow here. Since Orava itself is famous for its harsh climatic conditions and severe winters, skiers usually enjoy a generous snowfall. There is one ski lift and one slope suitable for skiers of all levels. Its length is 600 meters. Whole families with children can enjoy skiing on it, as it is of medium difficulty. Furthermore, all skiers will certainly be pleased with the favorable ski pass prices.

If you would like to try other ski resorts besides the one in Podbiel, you do not have to go too far. Popular slopes can be found in Zuberec as well as Brezovica. Both resorts are approximately 10 km from Podbiel, and you will get there literally in a matter of minutes. Podbiel is an extremely attractive village with many points of interest. From a distance, you will spot Červená skala, which dominates the village panorama. A popular destination for hikers is Bielska skala in the forests above the village. In addition, the village houses Františkova huta, an almost 200-year-old building of a former ironworks, and Bobrova raľa. It is the largest complex of preserved folk architecture in Central Europe.

In the village of Podbiel, they welcome every tourist with open arms. To get to know the beauty of this corner of Orava as best as possible, you need to spend more than just one day here. And that is where a wide variety of accommodation options comes into play. From guesthouses, through cottages and chalets, to private rentals, you will truly find everything here. All you need to do is choose the right accommodation from the diverse selection, where you will feel right at home.
