Ľudové múzeum - Ždiarsky dom

Ždiar

Architectural monuments of folk architecture are a major attraction for tourists seeking attractions with a real touch of history. Such a facility is also the Ľudové múzeum – Ždiarsky dom, whose exhibition is situated in a beautiful wooden cottage built following the model of wooden cottages from the early 20th century.

As the name of the folk museum suggests, you will find it in the Sub-Tatras village of Ždiar located in the Poprad district. The picturesque village is typical for its specific folk architecture, traditions, customs, and folklore, a taste of which has been prepared for visitors right in the Ždiarsky dom museum. The beautiful museum building was built in 1971 following the model of wooden cottages from 1911 and 1914. The exterior itself invites visitors and passers-by to step inside and let themselves drift away in time. In the residential part of the wooden cottage is the permanent exhibition of the museum formed by period furniture, folk costumes, and everyday items from the pre-war period. A magnificent carved chest, a wooden cradle, a small violin on the wall, or a gorgeous painted stove, everything here breathes history.

In addition to period items and an interesting commentary by the museum curator dressed in a folk costume, an interesting program is also prepared for visitors of Ždiarsky dom. Here you can experience a wedding from the last century and you will also get a unique opportunity to try on a traditional folk costume. Part of the museum complex is a restaurant with a tasty offer of local specialties and a souvenir shop. If you arrive at the right time, you can experience a horse-drawn carriage ride or a live Goral music performance as a accompanying event.

During your wanderings through the Tatransko-podtatranský región, definitely do not bypass the picturesque wooden cottage in Ždiar. If you visit during the winter season, take your skis with you and test the local ski resorts Ski centrum Strednica Ždiar or Ski centrum Strachan Ždiar, which attract visitors with their intimate atmosphere suitable primarily for families with children. And when you realize that one day spent in this picturesque village is not enough, you will certainly be pleased by the wide range of accommodation near Ľudové múzeum – Ždiarsky dom. Choose a charming guesthouse or a suitable cottage and enjoy your holiday or extended weekend here. Accommodation in Ždiar is like the village itself, diverse and friendly to visitors.

Hohenlohe zámoček

Hohenlohe zámoček

Tatranská Javorina

Surrounded by unique nature, in the cadastral area of the village of Tatranská Javorina, in a place with a beautiful view of both the Belianske Tatry and Vysoké Tatry, stands the Hohenlohe hunting lodge. It attracts visitors mainly because it is built of wood and showcases the lifestyle of the Prussian prince of that time.

The Hohenlohe hunting lodge belongs among national cultural monuments. It has been open to the public since 2015. It was designed by the architect Jean Leindecker and built between 1883 and 1885 by the Prussian prince Christian Craft Hohenlohe-Öhringen. This lodge served the prince mainly as his home, where he lived together with his wife. He also used part of the premises for representative purposes at a time when he organized hunts for guests from all over Europe. Among other things, Prince Christian himself established his own game reserve in this village, into which he imported bisons or ibexes.

The original appearance of this lodge has been preserved to this day, having undergone a partial reconstruction between 1975 and 1977. Today, the lodge serves mainly for representative purposes of the President of the Slovenská republika. You can also visit it if you book a tour date in advance. This is scheduled always for every Thursday of the month. It is possible to choose from three pre-determined free admissions. Parking at the lodge is possible only during the tour, and no fee needs to be paid for it.

During the tour, you will certainly be interested not only in the unique decoration but also in many objects, among which you can notice a telescope by the Munich optician Jacob Merc, hunting trophies, weapons, photographs, paintings, and also an unconventional gong that served to summon social events. Interesting photographs have also survived, but with regret, we must state that many objects from this lodge ended up in the original German seat of the Hohenlohe family after the world hunting exhibition in 1910. Several artifacts also "mysteriously disappeared" even before 1989.

Be sure not to miss a tour of this unique attraction, which is located in the village of Tatranská Javorina. You can plan a hike along tourist trails that were marked out in the past by Prince Hohenlohe himself. Less fit visitors will also appreciate a comfortable, albeit somewhat longer walk along the Zadné Meďodoly educational trail. In the village, do not miss the interesting Kostol svätej Anny church. In the summer season, you can rent a bicycle at the Strachan e-bike rental shop and explore the beauty of this region from its saddle. In the winter season, the slopes of the Ski TAJA - Tatranská Javorina ski resort are heavily utilized.

So that you do not have to return straight home on Thursday, we recommend taking time off and making it a sightseeing extended weekend. You just need to choose from the offer of our accommodation near the Hohenlohe lodge and everything is taken care of. For couples and families, several apartments are on offer, but if you come as a larger group, we recommend booking a cottage in this village. We will gladly help you choose the best accommodation on our portal.
