A 3.1 km long descent will give even the best skiers a good workout. A total of 12 ski lifts, 1 chairlift, and 1 cable car will take care of your comfort in the resort.

The resort is equipped to the highest possible standard. Almost 8 km of slopes feature an artificial snowmaking system, and 1.5 km has artificial lighting, allowing you to enjoy night skiing. The resort's greatest pride is its second-longest slope, where you can try out all possible inclines. It leads through blue, red, and black sections. Its length is an impressive almost 3 km, and riding it in one go requires a dose of strength and skill. Yes, that was only the second-longest slope. The absolute longest one is also suitable for beginners; it has a gentler incline and is up to 4 km long. Some ski resorts do not even reach that length, and here we are still talking about just one slope. Your comfort will be taken care of by 8 lifts and 2 chairlifts.

Artificial snowmaking, night skiing with a view of the illuminated Dolný Kubín at night, snack bars, ski schools, restaurants, various obstacles in the children's area, or a snowboard school are a matter of course. Kysucká vrchovina is ideal in any season for various sports activities. During winter, head directly to the local Lyžiarske stredisko Straník ski resort, located approximately 3 km from the center of Žilina, in the city district of Zástranie. As soon as a continuous layer of snow covers the slopes, winter sports enthusiasts will find everything they are looking for here.

Planning a day full of skiing is very convenient for visitors as well as all residents of Žilina. For this purpose, the smaller Lyžiarske stredisko Straník is ready to serve you. Within its area, there are a total of 2 ski lifts with a transport capacity of 1,300 people per hour. The large ski lift is 460 m long and provides access to either a medium-difficulty or an easy slope. On the small ski lift with a length of 250 m, beginners in particular, or your little ones, can enjoy gaining their first skiing experiences to their heart's content. The combination of these various slope difficulties is especially suitable for families, though advanced and recreational skiers will surely appreciate it as well.

An interesting feature of this resort is that the total length of the slopes is 1.6 km. Do not expect artificial snowmaking in this resort. Freshly fallen natural powder is transformed into groomed corduroy snow. Skiing thus has a wonderful charm, even when your skis just lightly glide along their edges down the maintained slope.

Cross-country skiers will also find plenty to enjoy within the ski resort area. For other skiers, a relatively large ski resort awaits; by our standards, 8 km of slopes is a respectable figure. You will find a modern chairlift here, along with 5 other ski lifts. The difficulty of the slopes is designed very reasonably, with the easiest blue and moderately difficult red trails in approximate balance. On the longest slope, you will enjoy a descent approximately 2 kilometers long, which will delight even more demanding skiers. Artificial snowmaking is a matter of course, even though just a few years ago, "Martinky" had to make do with only natural snow.

A snowboard park, buffets, and bars are also available to you here, where you can warm up with a good grog. We repeatedly draw your attention to the beautiful nature. You will see two-meter-high snowdrifts and trees laden with heaps of snow—just like in old films—only in a few places these days. At Martinské hole, it is a common phenomenon.

Transport accessibility, beautiful nature, and excellent skiing conditions are the main advantages of the resort. You will certainly want to spend more days here and discover not only the official slopes but also the beautifully hidden terrain. Therefore, set aside several days that you can spend in one of the many cottages directly by the slopes. Mountain hotel, guest house, tourist hostel, or private lodging—it does not matter what you choose; as long as you have good company, you are guaranteed not to be bored. Martinské hole simply will not allow it.

Pleasant skiing for children and beginner skiers is offered in Liptov by the Komjatná – Studničná ski lift. As its name suggests, the lift is located in the village of Komjatná, lying near the town of Ružomberok. On the slope of the Sivá skala hill, it is operated by the local primary school during weekends in the winter season. If you prefer skiing in the cozy atmosphere of a small Liptov village over crowd-filled skiing in large resorts, you will guaranteed find what you are looking for in Komjatná.

The Komjatná – Studničná lift is 150 m long. In addition to locals, the low-difficulty slope is mainly sought after by families with children and beginner skiers who can develop their skiing skills here without worry. Since this is not a ski resort in the true sense of the word, do not expect any additional services here. However, with your own skis and complete equipment, you will definitely enjoy a good ski session. Naturally, the slope is not covered by artificial snow, and the lift is only in operation under good snow conditions.

Among the main benefits of skiing in Komjatná, alongside the intimate atmosphere, is undoubtedly the picturesque nature. A part of the village, Studničná, lies on the northern edge of the Veľká Fatra mountain range. The slope of Sivá skala offers a unique view of the village in the valley, bordered by tower-like limestone crags.

If you plan to spend your winter holiday or an extended weekend in Liptov, definitely do not miss skiing in Komjatná – Studničná. You can combine it with a visit to the great Vodný park in Bešeňová, or you can go swimming in the Krytá plaváreň indoor pool in Ružomberok. If skiing in Komjatnsá i ultimately not enough for you, the popular Ski Park Ružomberok Malinô Brdo is located near Ružomberok, where options for winter sports are much more diverse. The ski resort is located on the border of the Malá Fatra and Strážovské vrchy mountain ranges. You will find it near the village of Kľačno. Transport is not a problem; you can get here from Žilina via Rajec, and it can also be reached from the direction of Martin or Prievidza.

Although the resort does not belong among the largest, it can satisfy every skier. It offers 4 ski lifts, 3 of which are for less demanding skiers. These serve blue-marked slopes, which are the easiest ones. They are suitable for children or beginners. The longest lift covers the slopes for more experienced skiers. The longest slope is approximately one kilometer in length, and all slopes combined measure 6 km. The most popular is the slope with the simple name "Zjazdovka". It is of medium difficulty, and the vast majority of skiers will find something to enjoy here.

Fačkovské sedlo also offers something for connoisseurs, truly advanced skiers. Almost 40% of the slopes in the resort are black, meaning the most demanding ones. However, this section lacks artificial snowmaking and thus depends on natural snowfall. But when there is enough snow, you will enjoy a ride through virgin powder like out of a movie.

Fačkovské sedlo features artificial lighting, so you can head out onto the skis even after dark. A matter of course are snack bars or a ski and snowboard school. You will have the entire resort in the palm of your hand from the highest peak, Homôľka, with an altitude of 1,063 meters above sea level.

If you happen to get tired of skiing, Fačkovské sedlo offers plenty of other activities. For example, snowmobiles, cross-country skiing trails, sledding, or ski touring trips. Sports-minded people will certainly find their niche and forget about boredom.

Tourists will surely appreciate the location along the hiking trail Cesta hrdinov SNP. The nearby monument is also dedicated to the Slovak National Uprising. In case of a multi-day skiing trip, you will need some nice accommodation. You can fully soak up the mountain atmosphere in local mountain huts or at a sheep farm (salaš).
