Do you long to experience the perfect skiing trip in a beautiful mountain environment with piles of snow? Who wouldn't want something like that? If you love truly long skiing seasons, visit Vrátna dolina, where skiing is possible for up to 4 months a year.

The resort is located in the picturesque surroundings of the Malá Fatra National Park, specifically in its Kriváň part. Do you know famous peaks like Veľký Rozsutec or Stoh? You will be able to see them right from the slopes of this magnificent ski resort.

The Vrátna Free Time Zone ski resort is designed primarily for intermediate and advanced skiers. Of course, beginners were kept in mind as well, but advanced skiers in particular will enjoy it here.

The slopes of Vrátna sit at an altitude of 600 – 1,709 meters above sea level. This guarantees plenty of snow until late spring. Vrátna consists of four areas, each of which is unique. These are Paseky, Poludňový Grúň, Chleb, and Príslop.

The resort's other specifications are above average as well. Vrátna can accommodate almost 11,000 skiers per hour, who can enjoy nearly 15 km of slopes. Several of them are suitable for beginners, but almost the entire resort provides a true skiing paradise for the more demanding ones. Especially the Chleb area, which is intended exclusively for the best skiers. Here you will find the steepest, most difficult, but also the longest and most interesting slopes in the resort.

Vrátna is a popular destination for ski touring enthusiasts not only from all over Slovakia, but also from neighboring countries. The descent from Veľký Kriváň is an unforgettable experience. Ski touring and off-piste freeride are becoming increasingly popular, and Vrátna dolina is made for these activities. If that's not your cup of tea, don't despair. A 3.1 km long descent will give even the best skiers a good workout. A total of 12 ski lifts, 1 chairlift, and 1 cable car will take care of your comfort in the resort.

The resort is equipped to the highest possible standard. Almost 8 km of slopes feature an artificial snowmaking system, and 1.5 km has artificial lighting, allowing you to enjoy night skiing. First-class services for skiers are complemented by snack bars, restaurants, ski rentals, and ski schools. You can also try snowboarding, movie-like freeride skiing, or head out to one of the cross-country trails, which span up to 22 km.

The beautiful surroundings of Malá Fatra right below the peak of Veľký Kriváň attract thousands of tourists throughout the year. In winter, you can find suitable accommodation at almost every step. Numerous mountain chalets and wooden cabins featuring traditional timber-rich architecture, welcoming family guesthouses, or budget-friendly private accommodation. There are more than enough options, and you are guaranteed to choose the right one for you.

Lyžiarske stredisko Straník

Lyžiarske stredisko Straník

Žilina

Kysucká vrchovina is ideal in any season for various sports activities. During winter, head directly to the local Lyžiarske stredisko Straník ski resort, located approximately 3 km from the center of Žilina, in the city district of Zástranie. As soon as a continuous layer of snow covers the slopes, winter sports enthusiasts will find everything they are looking for here.

Planning a day full of skiing is very convenient for visitors as well as all residents of Žilina. For this purpose, the smaller Lyžiarske stredisko Straník is ready to serve you. Within its area, there are a total of 2 ski lifts with a transport capacity of 1,300 people per hour. The large ski lift is 460 m long and provides access to either a medium-difficulty or an easy slope. On the small ski lift with a length of 250 m, beginners in particular, or your little ones, can enjoy gaining their first skiing experiences to their heart's content. The combination of these various slope difficulties is especially suitable for families, though advanced and recreational skiers will surely appreciate it as well.

An interesting feature of this resort is that the total length of the slopes is 1.6 km. Do not expect artificial snowmaking in this resort. Freshly fallen natural powder is transformed into groomed corduroy snow. Skiing thus has a wonderful charm, even when your skis just lightly glide along their edges down the maintained slope.

Cross-country skiers will also find plenty to enjoy within the ski resort area. This leisure activity of cross-country skiing brings incredible joy and excitement, as there are groomed cross-country trails and tracks in and around the resort. While cross-country skiing, you might not enjoy the stunning views of the Malá Fatra ridge from the top of Straník, but you will certainly admire the views of the surrounding nature hidden beneath the snow. Due to the resort's low altitude, the length of the skiing season and snow conditions are directly influenced by the current weather.

Will you purchase a seasonal pass for skiing at Straník? If so, you will certainly be thrilled by its relatively excellent price. Rspecially when compared to the somewhat more distant top-tier ski resort Vrátna Free Time Zone (located 25 km from Žilina). You can ski at Straník one day, book accommodation near Lyžiarske stredisko Straník in the evening, and end your stay the next day with relaxation at Mestská krytá plaváreň v Žiline. You can also take a look at the world from a bird's-eye perspective directly from Vyhliadková veža Dubeň.

Should you feel like you want more and wish to extend your stay, we definitely recommend contacting one of our verified accommodation providers. You can choose from many properties in our complete range of accommodation in Žilina. Will you choose based on your preferences apartmány Žilina, or are you the type who prefers simpler private accommodation?

Snow Paradise Veľká Rača - Oščadnica

Snow Paradise Veľká Rača - Oščadnica

Oščadnica

The Snow Paradise Veľká Rača Oščadnica ski resort ranks among the most famous, especially in northwestern Slovakia. It lies in the heart of the Kysucké Beskydy mountains and promises the highest quality skiing every year.

You will find Veľká Rača Oščadnica at the very edge of Slovakia, just a few meters from the state border with Poland. The best access to the resort is via Čadca or Krásno nad Kysucou. Amidst the inaccessible and wild nature of the Kysuce region, a expansive ski resort stretches across altitudes from 640 to 1,050 meters above sea level. The summit of Veľká Rača itself, through which the state border runs, is situated almost 200 meters higher. The greatest advantage of the Snowparadise Veľká Rača resort is its size and layout across three interconnected skiing locations Dedovka, Marguška, and Lalíky. Slopes of all difficulty levels are available here. Everyone will enjoy great skiing.

More than 14 km of trails are available. Almost all slopes are covered with artificial snow and are regularly groomed. You will find 15 slopes here, including 7 blue (easy difficulty), 7 red (intermediate), and 1 black (difficult). Cross-country skiing enthusiasts will also come into their own, as there are cross-country trails here, Stopa zdravia with lengths of 1 km, 3 km, and 5 km. Access to these trails is from the top station of the chairlift in Dedovka.

A new children's ski nursery, Snehové kráľovstvo, was also opened in the resort. It is located in the Dedovka area, between the Košariská 1 and Košariská 2 slopes. Children can try out a new magic carpet conveyor belt, two children's rope lifts, and enjoy skiing through a new fairy-tale obstacle course with figures. The new Račatrak snowcat transports children to the nursery from the top station of the Dedovka cable car. Diligent young skiers in the nursery are regularly visited by the mascot Macko Račko accompanied by children's songs.

The range of services in the resort is varied, ski schools, luggage storage, ski service, ski rental, and a sports equipment shop.

To diversify your skiing experience, you can also enjoy an adrenaline rush on the bobsled track, which is the largest attraction in the resort, or take a snowcat ride during slope grooming. It offers skiers the longest slopes for evening skiing in Slovakia.

In addition, events for visitors take place throughout the winter season, whether it is building snowmen, a fairy-tale carnival, a sauerkraut soup cooking competition, Hawaiian skiing in swimsuits, or Finnish sledding.

The Beskydy are one of the coldest regions of our beautiful country. But do not worry, you certainly will not freeze. You will warm up skiing on the slopes, on cross-country skis, later over a glass of good grog, and in the evening you can chat by the flickering fire in the fireplace of a stylish cottage. There is an abundance of these in the Beskydy, and if you are looking for precisely this type of accommodation, you are in the right place. However, others need not despair either. The surrounding area offers a number of hotels or tourist hostels of every category. All you have to do is choose and enjoy your holiday in a top-class ski resort, in Snow Paradise Veľká Rača Oščadnica.

Winter Park Martinky

Winter Park Martinky

Martin

Do you love skiing on slopes from which you can see tens of kilometers into the distance? Do you dislike narrow trails nearly inside a forest and want to feel truly comfortable while skiing? Winter Park Martinky brings all this and more, a ski resort with a long tradition.

Martinské hole tower directly above the city of Martin, which offers the most ideal access to them. They are located in the central part of the Lúčanská Malá Fatra mountains, one of the most famous mountain ranges in Slovakia. They are famous far and wide for their excellent snow conditions. While other resorts pray for enough snow, at Martinské hole they could give it away. No wonder, as their lower boundary is at an altitude of up to 1,150 meters above sea level and the upper one is about 300 meters higher. You will certainly experience an incredible natural spectacle called an inversion at the top of Martinské hole.

This once-overlooked ski resort is experiencing its second rebirth. The rising interest in freeriding—skiing in open, natural terrain—has played a part in this. Due to the abundance of snow and open spaces, Martinské hole is one of the most sought-after resorts of all.

For other skiers, a relatively large ski resort awaits; by our standards, 8 km of slopes is a respectable figure. You will find a modern chairlift here, along with 5 other ski lifts. The difficulty of the slopes is designed very reasonably, with the easiest blue and moderately difficult red trails in approximate balance. On the longest slope, you will enjoy a descent approximately 2 kilometers long, which will delight even more demanding skiers. Artificial snowmaking is a matter of course, even though just a few years ago, "Martinky" had to make do with only natural snow.

A snowboard park, buffets, and bars are also available to you here, where you can warm up with a good grog. We repeatedly draw your attention to the beautiful nature. You will see two-meter-high snowdrifts and trees laden with heaps of snow—just like in old films—only in a few places these days. At Martinské hole, it is a common phenomenon.

Transport accessibility, beautiful nature, and excellent skiing conditions are the main advantages of the resort. You will certainly want to spend more days here and discover not only the official slopes but also the beautifully hidden terrain. Therefore, set aside several days that you can spend in one of the many cottages directly by the slopes. Mountain hotel, guest house, tourist hostel, or private lodging—it does not matter what you choose; as long as you have good company, you are guaranteed not to be bored. Martinské hole simply will not allow it.
