Makov

Northern Slovakia is a sought-after location mainly for a winter holiday, thanks to its numerous ski resorts. One of them is the resort Kasárne, located in the Javorníky mountain range, which can be reached from the villages of Štiavnik or Makov. The excellent position of the northern slopes and an altitude ranging from 905 to 1,070 m above sea level guarantee excellent conditions and plenty of natural snow.

In the resort, you will find slopes of almost every difficulty level. In addition, Kasárne Javorníky can boast cross-country skiing trails that are part of the well-known cross-country highway leading from Čadca all the way across the border to our Czech neighbors. The Beskydsko-javornícka lyžiarska bežecká magistrála reaches a length of up to 65 km.

Skiers and snowboarders can use 3 ski lifts and 1 conveyor belt designed for children. You will get to enjoy sports to your heart's content on well-maintained slopes in the freeride, traverse, tourist, racing, or children's categories. The elevation drop of the slopes ranges from 20 to 165 m. A ski and snowboard school and nursery, ski service, and rental shop are also available. The resort also features artificial snowmaking, which is constantly being expanded. Free parking for visitors is provided directly next to the slopes.

Its location in the Chránená krajinná oblasť Kysuce has helped the resort gain the status of a climatic spa, which can be compared to the Vysoké Tatry. A visit is therefore also beneficial for people with respiratory diseases.

Outside the winter season, the Kasárne Javorníky resort is sought after for hiking and cycling. The entire mountain range comes alive with color, offering majestic views of the Strážovské vrchy, Beskydy, Veľká Fatra, and even as far as the Nízke Tatry. Take advantage of the beautiful weather and set off on a ridge hike, or enjoy the diverse nature during an easy hike or stroll. Between the villages of Papradno and Makov, you will find the Rozhľadňa na Stratenci, which stands by the Pamätník Tri Kríže, dedicated to the memory of Czechoslovak soldiers. Cycling enthusiasts will also find plenty to enjoy thanks to cycling trails of varying difficulty.

All you need to do is pick the right date and book cozy accommodation. You have a wide range of chalets and wooden cottages to choose from in the nearby village of Makov. Alternatively, you can stay in neighboring Czechia in the village of Velké Karlovice, where comfortable apartments await you. Whether you head to the Kasárne Javorníky ski resort with skis, a bike, or on foot, do not forget to enjoy your vacation or extended weekend to the fullest with everything this great place has to offer.

Ski Makov

Ski Makov

Makov

You have certainly heard of Makov before. It is a village deep in the mountains, in the rugged environment of the Kysuce region. It is mainly known among motorists who often pass through it to the neighboring Czech Republic. No, it is not just an ordinary village, but one that offers a relatively expansive ski resort that caters to a large portion of skiers.

You will find Ski Makov approximately 2 km from the village itself. This is not much of a problem, because right under the ski lift there is a parking lot from which you won't have far to go to the slope. All you need to do is step into your ski boots and head to the slope.

The Ski Makov ski resort is intended primarily for intermediate skiers. More than 90% of the slopes are marked red, which indicates intermediate-level slopes. In the lower part of the resort, there is one slope marked only blue, intended for complete beginners. It is suitable for children who will learn to stand on skis here and, after a few hours of practice, will enjoy making their first turns.

Nevertheless, we recommend the resort rather to more experienced skiers who can manage a sufficiently steep slope and do not have to worry about coming to a stop on it. If a black slope is already too challenging for you, then Makov is exactly what you are looking for.

The total length of all slopes in Ski Makov is 6,050 meters, which is by no means a small amount. They are located at an altitude of 660 – 948 meters. From the highest point of the resort, the peak of Čerenka, there is a gorgeous view not only of the entire complex but also of the broad surroundings. Thanks to the altitude and climatic conditions, the skiing season here never lasts less than 3 months a year.

Four ski lifts ensure your comfort and fast transport. Their capacity is nearly 3,000 skiers per hour, which is a sufficient number for you to enjoy skiing without waiting in long queues for the lifts. The ski center is equipped with a snowmaking system that covers up to half of the ski resort. One of the main advantages of Ski Makov is its generous and truly wide slopes. You no longer have to fear the maneuvers of other skiers, everyone will have plenty of space here.

Regularly groomed slopes also offer additional attractions. On the 1.2 km long central slope, you will find artificial lighting, thanks to which you can enjoy night skiing. For adrenaline lovers, there is an interesting snow park with many obstacles and jumps. If you still haven't had enough adrenaline, try snowtubing, riding down the slope headlong on an inflatable tube.

The surroundings of Makov and the Kysuce region in general are attractive to cross-country skiing enthusiasts. The mountain ridge offers plenty of trails with breathtaking views of the wide surroundings. Makov is a frequently visited and popular ski resort, thanks to which it also offers plenty of accommodation capacity. You will find most of it directly in the nearby village, luxurious guesthouses, simple accommodation in cottages, or various apartments and private rooms. Makov offers something for everyone, but above all, perfect skiing.
