Malachov –
Malachovský vodopád is located near the village of Malachov in the Banská Bystrica district. This picturesque waterfall is formed by a stream of the same name. Malachovská dolina is a popular destination for tourists and is also suitable for families with children. The hike to the waterfall is undemanding in terms of both time and physical fitness, and you are sure to enjoy Malachovský vodopád.
Malachovská dolina was once said to be a postal valley. Mail was transported from here from Banská Bystrica to Kremnica directly across the Kremnické vrchy mountains. Today, an educational trail runs through the valley. You can learn all about the local fauna and flora from the information boards. Set out on your trip to the waterfall from the village of Malachov. You can also park your car here.
Malachovský potok has formed a 200-meter-long gorge, at the end of which lies a charming waterfall. It drops from a height of 15 meters and changes colors throughout the seasons. In autumn, it is colored yellow, and in spring, green. The color of the waterfall depends on the light reflected by the surrounding forest. In winter, the waterfall freezes and creates a kind of ice kingdom.
We recommend visiting Malachovský vodopád in spring when the ice melts or after a period of rain. The power of the flowing water only highlights the wild nature of Malachovská dolina. Around the waterfall, you will also find benches where you can sit and enjoy the magnificent views. If you feel like a longer walk, continue on to Ortútske jazero lake, the Ortúty settlement, or the Trávny Ždiar rock viewpoint, which is also called the Bystrica Slovenský raj thanks to its beauty.
