People knew about the healing effects of water enriched with various minerals as early as Ancient Rome. It is no wonder that the power of this source is still used today to help relax tired muscles, heal pain, and strengthen immunity. Geothermal water at the swimming pool is pumped from two boreholes – one from a depth of 1,742 m and the other from 2,502 m.

However, if you prefer muscle relaxation through the hands of skilled masseurs, you can choose from an offer of Thai massages. Once a person gets tired after such physical activity, they will be pleased by refreshments in the bar and restaurant. In the summer period, a rich animation program is prepared for everyone. You can also play beach volleyball, football, or keep an eye on children playing on the playground.

And why visit this specific swimming pool? Enjoying the beneficial effects of water on the musculoskeletal and nervous systems, as well as the respiratory and cardiovascular systems, will certainly help. Gánovské travertíny a Gejzír

Gánovské travertíny a Gejzír

Gánovce

On an inconspicuous meadow in the middle of a village beneath the Tatras, you will find a paleontological site of world importance. You might still remember Gánovce, located in the Poprad district, from history classes as the site where a travertine cast of the brainpart of a Neanderthal skull was found. Gánovské travertíny and Gejzír were declared a national natural monument in 1972. Although many tourists coming to this region have no idea about this rare place amidst a green meadow, visiting a location where natural wealth meets the breath of ancient times is certainly worth it.

The Gánovské travertíny reach a height of approximately two meters. Travertiine is a type of limestone created by the precipitation of freshwater thermal springs. Right at this spot in the 1920s, a blaster during travertine mining found a cast of part of a Neanderthal skull that contained the brain. He initially considered the cast to be an animal skull. He handed it over to an employee of the Národné múzeum v Prahe, unaware of the importance and significance of his discovery. Gánovské travertíny subsequently became an extraordinarily important site of fossil fauna and flora as well.

Not far from the travertine mound, there is a geyser that spouts thermal water every 30 minutes. Thermal springs with healing mineral water have been known in Gánovce since 1549, when Gánovské kúpele were mentioned for the first time. Today they operate under the name Aqua Spa Gánovce, and you can combine a visit to them in your trip itinerary with a walk to Gánovské travertíny and Gejzír.

In case you cannot get enough of water fun and relaxation in Gánovce, the water paradise AquaCity Poprad is located in the nearby district town of Poprad, being a popular excursion spot for visitors from all over Slovakia. Or will you feel like continuing your walk through history after visiting the paleontological site? Visit the Podtatranské múzeum v Poprade, where they will reliably guide you through the history of the entire Tatra region. The culmination of a pleasant day filled with unusual experiences will certainly be resting in accommodation near Gánovské travertíny and Gejzír. Choose accommodation in Poprad according to your preferences and spend a pleasant holiday under the Tatras. Apartments, hotels, guest houses, as well as cozy holiday homes, cottages, and chalets are available.

Kežmarská radnica

Kežmarská radnica

Kežmarok

Have you ever been to Kežmarok? If not, accept our invitation and discover a piece of its rich history with us. We present to you Kežmarská radnica, which ranks among the most significant historical monuments of the town. Since the 15th century, it has been located right in the middle of Hlavné námestie. But did you know that the original town hall stood on one of the oldest streets in Kežmarok, at a place called Starý trh?

After the Hussite invasion in 1433, when the town partially burned down, the center moved to another part where a new square was created. Juraj of Spišská Sobota decided to build a new town hall in 1461. Following a major fire in the first half of the 16th century, it was considerably damaged and needed to be reconstructed. Master Kuntz of Kežmarok rebuilt it from the Gothic style into a Renaissance appearance between 1541 and 1555, while preserving its original character. Later, a tower was added to the town hall building. The town hall acquired its current appearance and a second floor only after a fire that was (allegedly) intentionally set by two town residents in 1922.

An interesting fact is that beneath the building lies an old cellar from which water springs used to gush in the past. Legend has it that an underground escape tunnel leads from the town hall starting here. The town hall building is part of the town monument reserve in Kežmarok. On December 4, 1981, it was entered into the List of Cultural Monuments of Slovakia. Currently, the town hall serves as the seat of the town office.

Get to know other attractions and historical monuments in Kežmarok as well. Visit Kežmarský hrad, where you will certainly be charmed by interesting castle exhibitions of weapons, a medieval pharmacy, or historical vehicles. Accommodation near Kežmarská radnica can be found on our accommodation Kežmarok page. Delight your children and take a trip to Aquafun Park Veľká Lomnica. Treat yourself to well-deserved rest and relaxation in the outdoor pools. Your kids will have a blast on the gigantic slide and other inflatable attractions. We wish you a pleasant and undisturbed holiday.

Kežmarský hrad

Kežmarský hrad

Kežmarok

Relatively few preserved castles have survived in our country today. If you do not enjoy wandering among unstable ruined walls and imagining what the castle once looked like, visit the town of Kežmarok. The town castle, or chateau, has stood here for centuries in an almost unchanged form. You have the opportunity to peek into the lives of nobles and lords of the castle, the wealthiest people of that time.

Today, the castle gives the impression of a romantic chateau. This was not always the case. The castle was originally Gothic and was built sometime at the turn of the 14th and 15th centuries. It did not spring up on a greenfield site. In its place stood Kostol sv. Alžbety church from 1251. A residential wing was later added to the church, turning it into a monastery.

The first written mention of the castle dates back to 1447. A later owner, Imrich Zápoľský, ordered the demolition of both the church and the monastery. This took place in 1486. The construction material from the monastery was used in building the western wing of the castle. Many Slovak castles were struck by fire. Fires rendered many of them uninhabitable, and due to a lack of funds, they began to fall into ruin. A similar disaster did not spare Kežmarský hrad either. And it happened several times. However, it was luckier. One of the fires engulfed it as early as 1575. The reconstruction was in the Renaissance style, and shortly thereafter, the castle fell into the hands of one of the most influential families, the Thökölys.

Thanks to various renovations, Kežmarský hrad began to transform from a cold castle into a pleasant and romantic chateau. The conversion into a chateau reached its final version in 1657, when artists from Italy decorated its entire interior. Even the castle stables had mangers made of marble. A year later, a chapel located in a former defensive bastion was built, or rather rebuilt.

The glorious period of the castle ended in 1720, when it was purchased by the town of Kežmarok. It was used for economic purposes and consequently began to fall into disrepair. Part of the castle fortification was destroyed as well. In 1931, the town established a small town museum in the tower. Kežmarský zámok gained sad notoriety during World War II, when Germans were stationed there and executed several partisans. Extensive reconstruction and preparations for opening it to the public began in 1960.

The castle exhibitions are remarkably varied. Kežmarok was always a town of craftsmen, housing up to 36 medieval guilds. You can find their coats of arms and traditional tools right inside the castle. Exhibitions familiar from other castles include a wide range of weapons or a tour of the castle chapel. Highlights include the dungeon, an exhibition of a medieval pharmacy, or historical vehicles. Everyone will enjoy the castle tour.

As one of the most important towns in Spiš, Kežmarok offers many accommodation options. In addition to hotels and hostels, it offers numerous guest houses. Staying in a burgher house right on the town square. That awaits you as well. If you are looking for more affordable accommodation, choose one of the many private accommodations. Discover Spiš directly from its center, right beneath the ramparts of Kežmarský hrad.

Prielom Hornádu

Prielom Hornádu

Smižany

Prielom Hornádu is one of the most beautiful hiking trails in Národný park Slovenský raj. It is located in the Košický kraj region in the Spišská Nová Ves district. The route is interwoven with numerous ladders, bridges, footbridges, and chains, so do not forget to wear sturdy footwear. If you are at least a slightly fit hiker, the adventure can begin.

Starting points for you can be the villages of Smižany, Čingov, Spišské Tomášovce, Hrabušice, Letanovce, or Podlesok. In 1964, Prielom Hornádu was declared a National Nature Reserve, and rightly so. The trail is 16 km long and here you will find exceptional fauna and flora, natural scenery, and geomorphological phenomena. Information boards are available to you. Kaňon Hornádu is in some places only a few meters wide. However, the elevation gain you tackle here is over 300 meters. Truly an adrenaline-pumping attraction.

Definitely do not bring very young children here and do not come if you are afraid of heights. On the contrary, if you have courage and good physical condition, Prielom Hornádu is the right choice for a trip for you. If you set off from the village of Podlesok, you will come across several benches for resting or a spring with drinking water. The hiking trail will lead you through diverse sections with beautiful waterfalls. Perhaps the most beautiful is Obrovský vodopád, which reaches a height of up to 60 meters.

Prielom Hornádu is accessible all year round. In winter, however, the water freezes in some places. The ladders and footbridges are slippery, so you need to be careful during the ascent. In the summer months, boating on the Hornád river is popular. However, you can only navigate in small watercraft. Rafting is not permitted. Do not forget to register on the website of Národný park Slovenský raj.

If you are planning to visit Slovenský raj, it is not only the Hornád gorge that will be a great attraction for you. We also recommend visiting Kláštorská roklina, which is rich in breathtaking waterfalls, or Tomášovský výhľad, from whose heights you can see far and wide.

The nature of Národný park Slovenský raj is unforgettable, and it is certainly worth coming here for a holiday. You will find ideal accommodation near Prielom Hornádu with us. You can also choose from a wide range of accommodation in Slovenský raj. You will remember the hiking you experience here for a long time to come.

Tomášovský výhľad

Tomášovský výhľad

Spišské Tomášovce

Tomášovský výhľad is located on the southern slope of Ludmanka, at an altitude of 667 m above sea level, in Slovenský raj. It is an impressive rock outcrop of a terraced shape with an overhang high above the Hornád river. From the top, you will enjoy a breathtaking view of Prielom Hornádu, Čertova Sihoť, the valley of Biely potok, as well as the Vysoké Tatry mountains. The ascent to it is not overly demanding, but the reward in the form of the most beautiful view in the Slovenský raj region is well deserved.

A group of climbers from Spišská Nová Ves, consisting of Brnčal, Huba, and Leschinský, was the first to conquer the wall of Tomášovský výhľad on October 8, 1938. Since then, the spot has been swarming with tourists, as everyone wants to enjoy this unforgettable view at least once. If you manage to arrive at a time when you are alone at the viewpoint, enjoy the unique atmosphere of the place. It is just you with your thoughts, a deep abyss below you, wild nature all around, silence, and a special sense of peace.

The limestone massif of Tomášovský výhľad has long been used as a climbing training ground, so you may notice steel pitons at the top. Currently, there are around 100 known climbing routes of various difficulty levels that can be used to conquer the steep wall. Rock climbing competitions are also held here. Directly below the rock terrace lies the lesser-known Michalova džura cave.

The starting point for the hike is the parking lot in the village of Čingov. From there, you will follow the yellow hiking trail, which will lead you past the Pomník Slovenského raja monument and a chalet settlement all the way to the top. You will overcome a certain incline and in about an hour (or even less via some routes), you will arrive at the spot. The entire route is 3.5 km long with an elevation gain of 235 m. It is not uncommon to pass families with young children or groups of seniors during the hike. Another option is to arrive from Spišské Tomášovce along the green hiking trail, which is considered the easiest route. Interesting routes also lead from Smižany, Ďurkovec, and Spišská Nová Ves. Cyclists will also appreciate the marked yellow MTB cycling route leading from the village of Spišské Tomášovce. Anyone with enough stamina should try the loop trail through Prielom Hornádu, which is among the most attractive routes.

Living in Slovakia and not seeing Tomášovský výhľad is like being Slovak and never tasting bryndzové halušky (sheep cheese dumplings). You might hesitate at first, but then you cannot get enough. Slovenský raj and its surroundings are a lifelong passion, where tourists come to find inner peace and draw the purest energy from nature. Book a stay in the vicinity of Tomášovský výhľad, for example on the accommodation Čingov or accommodation Spišské Tomášovce pages, and enjoy perfect views of our beautiful Mother Nature.

Kaštieľ Strážky

Kaštieľ Strážky

Spišská Belá

In the northern part of the Poprad Basin, at the confluence of the Poprad and the Beliansky stream, lies the town of Spišská Belá. Right here you will find a gem of Slovak Renaissance architecture, kaštieľ Strážky. Spišská Belá is situated in the Prešov Region, in the district of Kežmarok, approximately 20 km north of Poprad, the gateway to the tourist-beloved Vysoké Tatry. The local manor house attracts visitors not only with its charming architecture, but also with valuable permanent exhibitions and occasional programming by the Slovenská národná galéria. The charm of this unique place is completed by an 19th-century English park, which is made for a romantic stroll.

Art lovers can let themselves be enchanted by four permanent exhibitions in kaštieľ Strážky. Two of them are presentations of visual art pieces. The exhibition Portrét 17.–19. storočia na Spiši is a collection of portraits consisting largely of works from the family gallery of the former owners of the manor house (the Horváth-Stansith, Szirmay, Mednyánszky, and Czóbel families, as well as Spiš families such as Csáky, Esterházy, etc.). The second visual art exhibition, entitled Ladislav Mednyánszky a Strážky, is the only permanent exhibition in Slovakia presenting the works of one of the main representatives of Central European painting of the last third of the 19th and early 20th century, Ladislav Mednyánszky. The exhibition is a selection from a comprehensive body of the artist's works, which primarily come from his early periods and document individual stages of the development of his artistic style.

The third interesting exhibition of the picturesque manor house is Historická knižnica Strážky, which is part of the national cultural heritage. Its origins date back to the last quarter of the 16th century. The impressive collection contains an incredible 8,500 volumes, magazines, and maps. The last exhibition of the Slovenská národná galéria can be viewed by visitors in the premises of kaštieľ Strážky. Under the title Sochárstvo na Slovensku v 20. storočí, works of important Slovak sculptors from the second half of the 20th century are presented here in the impressive setting of the English park. The picturesque park grounds blend pleasantly with the riverbed of the Poprad River and the surrounding countryside. It thus creates a beautiful scenery for a pleasant walk with an artistic touch.

A magnificent artistic object is undoubtedly the building of kaštieľ Strážky itself. It was built on the foundations of a Gothic castle. Later owners, the Horváth-Stansith family, gradually rebuilt it into a beautiful Renaissance manor house. This picturesque manor house acquired its present appearance through a reconstruction in the 17th century. A typical square floor plan with an inner courtyard was created by adding a fourth wing after a fire at the beginning of the 18th century. Kaštieľ Strážky, together with the kostol sv. Anny and a Renaissance bell tower in the historic town center, forms a national cultural monument.

Can you get enthusiastic about art and architectural monuments set in unique outdoor scenery? If so, definitely do not miss a visit to Spišská Belá and kaštieľ Strážky during your holiday in the Tatras. You can combine a trip here with a tour of Belianska jaskyňa, the largest and only accessible high-mountain dripstone cave in the Tatranský národný park. A matter of course during a holiday in this region is a wide range of accommodation near kaštieľ Strážky. Accommodation in Kežmarok presents a broad spectrum of apartments, guesthouses, picturesque villas, cottages, and chalets. You will certainly find something to your liking here.

There is a small hydroelectric power plant in Kostoľany nad Hornádom, and you will need to carry your vessel over for approximately 100 meters because of it. This is also an opportunity for a short break and refreshments. Enjoying the trip along the river beneath the canopy of poplars is amazing. Watching fish and waterfowl will appeal to nature lovers. The cool river waves will refresh you even on the hottest summer days. Right before the end of the trip, the Ťahanovská vlna wave will also delight you. It will challenge you a bit more, but there is no need to worry.

The trip is of medium difficulty and can easily be handled by children aged 8 and up. We recommend taking a swimsuit and a T-shirt on the boat. In case of cooler weather, suitable paddling clothing or a waterproof jacket is advised. On sunny days, do not forget to pack sunscreen. It is also important to wear suitable water footwear (sneakers, sturdy sandals) to protect your feet from injury on sharp rocks or glass.

After reaching the Košická lodenica boathouse, the event organizers will, if you wish, transport you back to Kysak by car. This is especially convenient if you left your car or other vehicle there. Naturally, the organizers offer various types of routes as well as canoeing courses or adventurous rafting on the Hornád. However, keep in mind that it is a good idea to book accommodation near the Splav Hornádu.

If you stay dry and feel like exploring the surroundings, be sure to plan trips to nearby attractions. It is great to see all the fascinating plants at the Botanická záhrada Univerzity P. J. Šafárika botanical garden. History is worth delving into at the Východoslovenské múzeum museum. After such a walk, all you need to do is head straight to the city center and enjoy the urban atmosphere. You might even catch the sound of the Zvonkohra Košice carillon.

The region is large enough to have plenty to offer its visitors. So that you do not have to move around constantly, we recommend booking a room on the accommodation Košice – Sever page. Affordable options for you might include accommodation in apartmány Košice – Sever or a room in penzión Košice – Sever. We leave the choice up to you, but we are happy to help.

Letanovský mlyn

Letanovský mlyn

Letanovce

Letanovský mlyn lies in the northern part of Slovenský raj at an altitude of 513 m above sea level, in Eastern Slovakia. It is precisely the mill that forms the boundary dividing Prielom Hornádu into two parts. It is among the popular tourist locations, as this very spot serves as the starting point for several hikes, for example to the resorts of Čingov, Podlesok, or Kláštorisko. Until approximately the middle of the 20th century, the mill fully fulfilled its original function.

In the vicinity of Letanovský mlyn, there was a 15th-century stone Carthusian bridge built by monks as part of the "Carthusian road up the mountain". The bridge was later destroyed during World War II; today, an exact replica stands here, captivating every visitor with an appearance that fits seamlessly into the character of the surroundings.

The first mill was built of wood at the beginning of the 19th century on the left bank of the Hornád. Originally, it was the property of Tiba, later belonging to the Carthusians and the Spiš Provostship, before finally ending up as the property of the village of Letanovce. When Karol Poledniak purchased it from the village, he demolished the original mill and built a new one in its place, specifically a brick, modern three-roller mill equipped with all the necessary machinery. The owner rented it out, but when the mill burned down in 1927, he did not restore it again. It gradually fell into disrepair and was eventually renovated, though only as a recreational cabin.

Local residents used it as a popular recreational facility for many years. Currently, a recreational settlement built in its immediate vicinity features several private cabins and a buffet. The buffet is immensely popular, and during the summer season when it is open, both locals and tourists visit it.

They come here to relax, draw energy from nature and the surroundings, or take a break to rest and catch their breath during a hike. Relax under the rare flora of Slovenský raj, the sessile oak and the thermophilic Mahaleb cherry.

A great hike to Letanovský mlyn leads from Podlesok along the blue hiking trail through Hrdlo Hornádu. You follow a moderately demanding route along the river; on the way, you cross bridges, walk over footbridges attached to rock faces while holding onto chains, or climb wooden ladders. Some rocks feature very intriguing openings that will catch your eye at first glance. However, this is only one of the possible routes, as red and yellow hiking trails also cross the area alongside the blue one.

No matter which direction you arrive from, the peace of nature, the scent of the forest, and the murmur of the river act as a balm for the soul. From spring to autumn, you can enjoy wonderful hiking and walks here. If you visit in winter, you can go ice climbing on frozen waterfalls. It is therefore up to you in which season of the year you visit this picturesque region. Pack your backpack, lace up your hiking boots, and book your stay on the accommodation Letanovce page. You will remember this trip long after returning home.

Their main goal was an escape from the everyday world into a natural environment with the intention of doing something good for their body as well. Looking into our history, we can discover that the origin of saunaville dates back to 4000 BC. Even back then, baths such as the Turkish or Arabian hammam, Roman public baths, or the Korean sauna were known. We only learn about the Finnish sauna in 1112, when it served to heat dwellings in Finland.

Do you also feel like coming and experiencing sauna bathing firsthand? Book your slot for this wooden Finnish sauna online. Here, you will light up the wood-burning stove and take a seat on your chosen wooden bench. For a full 15 minutes, enjoy the indescribable view of the soothing nature, where you might even catch a glimpse of wild game. After this time, cold air will stroke your heated body, and with determination, you will step down to a wooden tub filled with cold water. You can freely repeat this process 2 to 3 times. However, after each cycle, do not forget to take a moment to pause and "tune into yourself" in the relaxation room. You might be so tired that you even take a short nap. Make sure to bring your own towels, sheets, or slippers with you, as these are not provided at the sauna. If you plan to use the sauna in the evening hours, it is also advisable to pack flashlights or your own light source.

You too can come and enjoy the beneficial effects that act on the entire human organism. It will relieve your tension, strengthen blood circulation, rejuvenate your skin, and speed up your metabolism. Thanks to sweating, you will get rid of undesirable substances from your body. Bazilika sv. Jakuba v Levoči

Bazilika sv. Jakuba v Levoči

Levoča

Chrám svätého Jakuba in Levoča is among the most important sacral buildings in Slovakia. In 2015, Pope Francis elevated it to a basilica minor. Come and see the unique main altar of St. James, which, with its height of 18.6 meters, is the highest altar of its kind in the world. It is made of linden wood and was created under the hands of the woodcarver Master Paul of Levoča.

The parish church is dedicated to St. James, apostle and protector of warriors, pilgrims, and workers. His feast day is celebrated on July 25. The church has been serving believers for daily services for over 700 years. The church and its interior furnishings have been a national cultural monument since 1965. In 2009, the Basilica of St. James was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

The church was built in the first half of the 14th century as a three-aisled building. Porches were built onto it on the northern and southern sides, and around 1515, the so-called Henckel Library was built above the northern porch. In 1859, at the instigation of Emperor Franz Joseph I, the neo-Gothic tower was completed.

In addition to the main altar, the church contains another 13 side altars. Another gem in the church is the organ, which was created in the years 1624 – 1630 at the expense of the wealthy Levoča burgher Friedrich Pobst by the Krakow organ builder Hans Hummel. The Renaissance pulpit, created by the local joiner master Krištof Kollmitz, originally from Olomouc in the Czech Republic, is also ranked among the remarkable monuments.

The dominant features of the church interior are extensive wall paintings representing the cycle of the seven works of mercy and the seven deadly sins. In addition to the main altar, the works of Ján Szilassy are also declared a national cultural monument. These are monstrances, chalices, and other liturgical objects decorated with enamel and embossed work, which are inlaid with Czech garnets.

A remarkable legend about a forged cross is also associated with the Basilica of St. James. When the former senator Wildner went on a trip with his wife and daughter, their carriage was struck by lightning and their only daughter Zuzana died. Out of grief, they lined her coffin with valuables and arranged a magnificent funeral for her. The gravedigger who buried her decided that he would dig up the grave that very night and take the jewelry from the grave. When he dug up the coffin, he stood face to face with a living girl. Out of gratitude to God for sparing their only daughter, the Wildner family had a forged cross placed on the roof above the main altar, where it remains to this day.

After visiting the basilica, you can set off for Mariánska hora, which is one of the oldest pilgrimage sites in Slovakia. Another holy church stands at this place, the Basilica of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary. On hot summer days, refreshment in the Bio bathing area will come in handy. Another great experience will be full-body relaxation in the unique Forest Sauna in Spišský Hrhov. The Spiš region will surprise you with a multitude of exceptional attractions that are worth not only seeing, but also experiencing. Book your stay in Levoča today. You can find a great offer of accommodation near the Basilica of St. James on our website accommodation in Levoča.

Kláštorisko

Kláštorisko

Letanovce

Kláštorisko is the ruins of a 13th-century Carthusian Gothic monastery that you will find while wandering through the Spiš region, in the beautiful surroundings of Slovenský raj (Slovak Paradise). It is also known by the names Skala útočišťa or Strážny vrch. It is located at an altitude of 760 m a.s.l. in the cadastral territory of the village of Letanovce. Together with the areas of Čingov and Podlesok, Kláštorisko belongs to the most important centers in the northern part of Slovenský raj.

The monastery's founding charter dates back to December 1299. Archaeological finds confirm that a hillfort structure from the Lusatian culture period was located here. According to legend, the monastery is punishment for the death of the provost of the Crusaders in Chmeľov. He was supposedly killed by Master Kokoš from the prominent Brezovický family, who as punishment and redemption for such a bloody crime had to found six monasteries. However, he only managed to found two. According to some historians, however, something else stands behind its creation.

The Kláštorisko plateau had a very important strategic location. From here, there is a view of the entire Spišská kotlina basin and its surroundings. That is precisely why inhabitants chose it as their refuge as early as the Late Bronze Age (11th century BC), and subsequently in the Early Iron Age (600 BC), they even built a fortress of sorts on the site. During the Tatar invasions of the Kingdom of Hungary, misery, hunger, and suffering befell ordinary people. The people of Spiš tried to save their wives and children from the cruelty of the Tatars. Historians believe that it was the people who hid on the rock and survived the Tatar invasion who built a makeshift wooden church at this location. A monastery was later built behind the walls as an expression of gratitude for saving lives.

The first structure to be built was a chapel north of the church, later used as a chapter house. The space south of the presbytery served the monks as a sacristy. A large monastery corridor was built around the entire perimeter of the courtyard. Along its perimeter were the monks' dwellings separated by low walls. Connected to the large cloister in the southeastern part is a small monastery corridor that stands opposite the communal spaces. Such a division of monastery corridors is specific to the Carthusian Order, as it reflects their requirement for a life of solitude, silence, and strict asceticism. The golden era of the monastery's operation was at the turn of the 14th and 15th centuries.

At the end of the 15th century, however, the monastery's life was accompanied by devastation associated with a destructive fire. It was attacked by the Hussites, later by the bratríci (Brotherhoods), who found their refuge at Marcelov hrad. This resulted in the monastic community moving to Levoča, where they built a new monastery and stayed for a short time. Thanks to the return of the monks, the monastery in Letanovce underwent reconstruction in 1478. Not only were necessary repairs carried out, but also various renovations and stylistic architectural alterations took place. In 1517, a hospice was built in its southern part. The remainder of the monastery's existence was influenced by political changes, the mortgaging of estates to the town of Kežmarok, as well as plundering by the robber knight Matej Bašo. In 1543, by decree of the General Chapter, the monastery was abandoned and demolished.

You can reach the monastery on foot from Hrabušice - Podlesok through Prielom Hornádu or from Čingov via Tomášovský výhľad. The braver ones can also go through the settlement in Letanovce. The complex is accessible year-round, and in summer, professional guided tours are available for interested visitors. The entire area of Kláštorisko is a very popular tourist destination. There is even a symbolic cemetery with exhibited artworks by young artists from the Spiš region. The exposition commemorates personalities who contributed to the development of the national park, as well as the lost lives of those who perished in Slovenský raj.

So whether you are interested in the history of the monastery or attracted to hiking in Slovenský raj, you are in the right place. Book accommodation near Kláštorisko on the Letanovce accommodation page and come admire not only the beauty of this monument, but also the famous Letanovský mlyn mill or one of the waterfalls in Letanovce.

The lower part of the waterfall consists of a beautiful small lake into which the cold, clear water of the Suchá Belá stream flows. When you get above the waterfall, you will discover the origin of its name. A rock window is located there. You reach it via a ladder, but be careful. The splashing water tends to wet it, making it quite slippery. During the walk through the 3.5 km long gorge, many other waterfalls and small lakes can be found along the course of the stream.

A trip to Suchá Belá is without a doubt worth making in spring. Nature is awakening, the snow is melting, and the waterfalls are gaining volume. In summer, escape here from the overheated city to cool off under the tree canopies; in autumn, you will be left in silent awe of all those beautiful colors. And winter is certainly great as well, magical icefalls bring sparkles especially to children's eyes as they search their surroundings for Olaf. After all, who wouldn't love warm hugs?

When you decide to visit Okienkový vodopád, your starting point will be Podlesok. From the parking lot, your steps will lead along the green hiking trail. After a section of approximately half a kilometer, you will find yourself at the beginning of the gorge. From there, you will continue through true wilderness. Prepare yourself for metal footpegs, small bridges, and especially ladders. Therefore, do not underestimate your choice of clothing as well as quality hiking footwear. With good preparation, the hike is undemanding, and both children and seniors can handle it physically.

The best start to a trip is waking up in accommodation near Okienkový vodopád. The ideal place where you can find suitable lodging is the page accommodation Hrabušice. Once you are there, stay for several days. Košický kraj offers many other trip ideas that are well worth experiencing.

The slopes of this ski resort are suitable for the widest spectrum of skiers. Beginners can take advantage of the services of a ski kindergarten or a school with qualified instructors. Kaskádový vodopád

Kaskádový vodopád

Hrabušice

The Kaskádový vodopád can be found in the Piecky gorge in the Národný park Slovenský raj. It falls into the cadastral area of the village of Hrabušice in the Spiš region. The waterfall is also simply called Kaskády. The water flows step by step among the rocks, thus creating enchanting phenomena. Tourists love this gorge because you can find right three waterfalls here. Ladders and footbridges lead through the Kaskádový vodopád, so you pass directly through it. It is truly an adventure.

Set out for the Kaskádový vodopád from the tourist center Píla. It is not far from the village of Hrabušice, just past Podlesok. You can park your car here and refresh yourself in the local buffet. The gorges of the Slovenský raj are subject to a fee, so do not forget to pay the entrance fee. The Piecky gorge is not suitable for small children because the ladders that you climb here are truly high and slippery. Ensure quality hiking boots and waterproof clothing for yourself as well.

You will reach the Kaskádový vodopád by following the yellow tourist trail into the Piecky gorge. The first waterfall here is the Velký vodopád with a height of 13 meters. You will also conquer the highest ladder of the Slovenský raj here. Right behind it follows the somewhat smaller, approximately 12 meters long Kaskádový vodopád. Pass through the rungs and ladders and enjoy its beauty. It flows in a cascade shape, and the water conquers several of these cascades right away. Each step creates a riverbed where the water gains greater strength to be able to create another cascade.

The Kaskádový vodopád will lead you further through the gorge all the way to the Terasový vodopád with a height of 8 meters. Behind it, at the top of Piecky, the gorge ends, and you can continue via Malá Poľana back to the starting point Píla. The length of this valley is 4 km and the crossing will take you approximately 2 hours. If you decide to go further and view other gorges, you can set off along the green trail into the Suchá Belá valley, the red trail through the Veľký Sokol gorge, or the blue trail into the Kyseľ gorge.

In addition to the Kaskády waterfall, the Slovenský raj also offers other wonderful waterfalls. If you too love hiking, come here to enjoy an active vacation. Escape room Záhada Bermudského trojuholníka

Escape room Záhada Bermudského trojuholníka

Smižany

The interactive escape game Záhada Bermudského trojuholníka in Spišská Nová Ves will transport you into a world of maritime mysteries and unexplained phenomena, where your goal is to escape before you become the next victim of the legendary anomaly.

The attraction is located in the town of Spišská Nová Ves, in the district of Spišská Nová Ves, on Zimná ulica street (at the Paniq Room facility). The game's storyline is inspired by real legends about the disappearance of ships and aircraft, placing your group in an enclosed space filled with strange instruments and navigational maps. Players have exactly 60 minutes to uncover the secret of the triangle and open the door to freedom by searching for hidden clues, solving numerical codes, and working out logical connections. The room is designed to evoke a sense of suspense and mystery, utilizing various mechanical and visual effects. Unlike classic computer games, the emphasis here is placed on real hands-on interaction with objects and team communication, without which successfully completing the mission is nearly impossible. If the team gets stuck, an operator is available to guide players in the right direction using hints.

What can you find here?

Inside the escape room, you will find a thematically decorated interior featuring nautical elements, maps, cipher equipment, and technical puzzles. The experience includes sound and lighting backdrops that build the atmosphere of the unknown environment in the Bermuda Triangle. The facility's background facilities include a reception area where the initial briefing takes place, as well as a space for storing personal belongings.

Who is the place suitable for?

The game is designed for smaller groups of friends, families with older children, and teambuilding teams (optimally 2 to 5 people). It is ideal for all lovers of mysteries and thrill who prefer an active form of entertainment over passively watching a movie. Due to the difficulty of some logical tasks, the game is recommended for children aged 12 and up accompanied by adults; however, younger enthusiasts with sharp thinking can also be an asset to the team.

What can you visit in the surroundings?

Directly in the town of Spišská Nová Ves, you can visit the Rímskokatolícky farský kostol Nanebovzatia Panny Márie church with the tallest church tower in Slovakia, or the popular ZOO Spišská Nová Ves. Just a few kilometers from the town lies the gateway to the Národný park Slovenský raj national park (Čingov resort), which offers hikes through famous gorges and the Prielom Hornádu. The nearby Spišský hrad castle and the historical town of Levoča, which are listed as UNESCO World Heritage sites, are also well worth a visit.

Slnečné hodiny Nová Lesná

Slnečné hodiny Nová Lesná

Nová Lesná

Just by reading the name of the attraction, you will figure out how to find your way around this interesting sight. Slnečné hodiny Nová Lesná (Sundial Nová Lesná) is located directly in the sub-Tatra village of Nová Lesná. This scientific device designed for measuring time will catch your attention as an attraction under the Tatras mainly for children, but adults will marvel at it as well.

Sundials as such work on the principle of incident light. Therefore, if you want to experience firsthand how this ancient device works, plan a trip to see it during beautiful sunny days. The space of the structure as such consists of three elements: the sundial, the panoramic orientation object, and meditation stools. If it were not for the idea of creating the sundial by Mr. Nosek and Ms. Šimoníková, this project would not have been successfully realized.

Time is a relative quantity. Here, you can spend a long time reflecting on yourself or watching the movement of the Sun in the sky by the sundial. The uniqueness of this work lies in the fact that the clock as such is multiple. What does that mean? You can look at the southern clock, western clock, or noon clock. Simply put, you can say that the western clock shows time only in the afternoon, the noon clock shows true local time in the settlement of Malý Smokovec, and the southern one shows daylight saving time (in Arabic numerals) as well as the time for the rest of the year (in Roman numerals).

At the panoramic orientation object, observing the surroundings is particularly interesting. On the installed spatial structure, you will learn information regarding the panorama of the Vysoké Tatry. How wonderful it is to admire individual peaks in the distance, their altitude, and imagine conquering them. Excellent for every tourist.

The meditation stools are part of the area in front of the southern dial of the sundial. There are precisely 12 wooden stools intended for sitting, observing the surroundings, and meditating. They symbolically correspond to the number of hours in a day as well as the number of months in a year.

If you decide to visit this picturesque village, definitely do not miss its attraction. On a sunny day, you will recharge your energy here and learn the exact time. From the sundial, you can also plan a trip to nearby attractions in the area. It will be best to wake up in the morning in accommodation near Slnečné hodiny Nová Lesná, or in accommodation in Nová Lesná, but do not snub accommodation in the Tatra settlements either. From an apartment in Starý Smokovec, you can take a look into Tricklandia, and from private accommodation in Dolný Smokovec, winter sports at the Pod lesom ski resort will come in handy. It is up to you how you decide to spend your time.

Beautiful views and top-class services at a European level are the main attractions of the smallest high-mountain range in the world. A cable car runs from Tatranská Lomnica up to an altitude of 2,632 meters above sea level.

The ski resort in Tatranská Lomnica is our highest-altitude resort, and you will find one of the steepest slopes in Slovakia here. The slopes are spread out at altitudes ranging from 888 to 2,196 meters above sea level. This represents a vertical drop of approximately 1,300 meters, which is more than enough. The upper part is dedicated to the best and most experienced skiers; you will find the steepest slope of the resort here in Lomnické sedlo pass. This slope is constantly groomed, but if you prefer and want to enjoy free terrain, the part of the resort called Francúzska mulda is intended for you.

The resort has been significantly renovated; new slopes as well as cable cars have been added. Its pride is the new 15-seater cable car, the same as the one you will find in the Jasná ski resort. Národný park Slovenský raj

Národný park Slovenský raj

Dedinky

Národný park Slovenský raj is one of nine Slovak national parks and is considered one of the most beautiful. It stretches across the Banskobystrický kraj, Prešovský kraj, and Košický kraj regions, where it extends into the Spiš region. It is located within the territories of the Brezno, Poprad, Spišská Nová Ves, and Rožňava districts. The territory of Slovenský raj is a true paradise for hikers. Waterfalls, canyons, rocks, and breathtaking views—this is how our most visited national park could also be characterized.

NP Slovenský raj is a paradise for both animals and tourists

Slovenský raj was declared a national park in 1988. There are 11 national nature reserves and 8 nature reserves here. The park's territory lies in the north of the Slovenský Rudohorie mountains. Due to its fauna and flora, it has been included in the highest level of protection. Bears, wolves, foxes, and lynx live here, and even the Tatra chamois was artificially released here in 1963. Trout swim in the streams, and we can find various species of falcons as well as the golden eagle here.

The area of Národný park Slovenský raj is 19,414 hectares. Two rivers, the Hnilec and the Hornád, flow through the park, creating unique water phenomena—canyons, gorges, ravines, and waterfalls. The longest gorge is Prielom Hornádu, which was declared a national nature reserve as early as 1964. The section is 16 km long and belongs to the cadastre of the village of Letanovce. The trail is full of bridges, ladders, footbridges, and chains. Tourists from far and wide come to admire the wonderful scenery here.

The most visited gorge in Slovenský raj is Suchá Belá, through which a stream of the same name flows. You can reach it from the tourist center of Podlesok near the village of Hrabušice. The valley is interspersed with several waterfalls such as Misové vodopády, Korytový, or the beautiful Okienkový vodopád. With good hiking boots, even children can manage this undemanding and interesting hike.

Explore gorges, waterfalls, and the adrenaline-filled via ferrata

Národný park Slovenský raj also offers other gorges to explore. Klaštorská dolina is relatively short but popular with families with children. On the 1.5-kilometer route, you can admire Vodopád objaviteľov, Strakov vodopád, or Dúhový vodopád. Your starting point will be Kláštorisko, which is a ruin of a 13th-century Carthusian monastery. You will find a tourist center and a restaurant here. The entrance to this part of Slovenský raj is a rope bridge—a footbridge that was the first to be built when the gorge was opened to the public.

We also recommend visiting other nature reserves of Slovenský raj. In the Sokolia dolina gorge, which is the steepest valley in the park, you will find Závojový vodopád. With its height of 75 meters, it is the highest waterfall in Slovenský raj, and you can visit it from Tomášovská Belá. A no less famous gorge is Kyseľ, where the second largest waterfall in this park, Obrovský vodopád, is located. Adrenaline enthusiasts in the gorge will certainly be pleased by the Kyseľ Ferrata—a place where you can try rock climbing.

Other popular gorges include Piecky, Veľký Sokol, and Tiesňavy. The gorges in NP Slovenský raj require an entry fee but are open year-round. The weather, just like in the mountains, can be changeable here. Before your visit, always check the forecast and check the status of the hiking trails on the national park's website. Do not forget good, waterproof clothing or a raincoat. Due to its humidity, Slovenský raj resembles a primeval forest.

The most beautiful view and a magical ice cave await you

The most beautiful view in Slovenský raj will undoubtedly open up to you at Tomášovský výhľad. You can reach this rocky outcrop from the tourist center of Čingov or from the village of Smižany. Even seniors or families with children can handle the ascent to it. Of course, caution is advised. From an altitude of 667 m a.s.l., you will be able to see as far as the Vysoké Tatry mountains.

There is a large number of caves in Národný park Slovenský raj, most of which remain unexplored. Dobšinská ľadová jaskyňa, accessible from the village of Dobšiná, is open to the public. And as the name suggests, the cave is a magical realm of ice. So, if your children love Frozen, Elsa, Anna, or the snowman named Olaf, a visit to the cave will be an unforgettable experience for them.

If you are looking for a place in Slovenský raj to swim or laze about so that you can rest after a demanding hike, try the Klauzy water reservoir. The shores of the Palcmanská Maša water reservoir in the village of Dedinky also offer perfect relaxation. This largest water reservoir in Slovenský raj will also be an ideal starting point for your further wanderings through the national park.

Thanks to its countless natural beauties, Slovenský raj is the right place for an active holiday. Go on hikes here and admire what nature has created. We have prepared tips for trips in Slovenský raj for you. Plan your holiday now. We offer you quality accommodation near Národný park Slovenský raj. Book it on the page for accommodation in Slovenský raj or accommodation in Dedinky on our portal. You will surely choose from the wide offer. There are options for families with children as well as accommodation for hikers. Book your holiday in Slovenský raj today.

Vysoké Tatry mesto

Our impressive high mountains, the Vysoké Tatry, have long attracted visitors not only with their rocky peaks and unique natural scenery. This tourist region offers a wide spectrum of interesting attractions and unique opportunities for original experiences. Without a doubt, one such place is Tricklandia, the most remarkable gallery of trick-art and optical illusions in Slovakia. It is located in Starý Smokovec, in the oldest settlement of the town of Vysoké Tatry. In this enchanting place, you will experience a journey through Slovakia through tricks and illusions. You will get to know the themes of Slovak folk tales and fairy tales, as well as distinct villages and picturesque castles of Slovakia, through a interplay between the artist and your senses. Do not forget your mobile phone or camera, and remember: nothing is as it seems at first glance.

The Tricklandia gallery covers an area of 500 m². The entire facility is wheelchair accessible, making it appealing not only to lovers of unusual entertainment, but also to families with children and active seniors. Visitors can expect 24 unique attractions including 15 trick-art paintings, augmented reality, anti-gravity rooms, as well as the most beautiful mirror maze in Central Europe. One of the newest highlights of Tricklandia is the COMICS exhibition, which features an exhibition of illustrations by the artist Miroslav Matuščinec. These illustrations are interesting because they come to life using an app. As a visitor, you will thus find yourself in the role of a superhero, brush a hippo's teeth, or hang on a clothesline along with freshly washed laundry.

Are you asking what trick-art actually is? It is the art of depicting two-dimensional drawings in a way that evokes a three-dimensional reality. Engage all your senses and let yourself be carried away by artwork presenting journeys through unique Slovak culture. In Tricklandia, these works will act on your brain to create original sensory illusions. Believe nothing and try to reveal as many tricks as possible. We wish you great fun.

Tricklandia was built in the Tatras over precisely one year, and its founders worked a total of 9,600 hours during that time. A total of 6 m³ of wood and 9,600 screws were used for construction. For the unique artwork, 2,000 spray cans were used, and there are an incredible 200 m² of mirrors in the mirror kingdom.

If you have only been considering a vacation in the Tatras until now, you should definitely start packing your bags now. In addition to mountain hiking, excellent skiing, and cable car trips, you will now experience something truly unbelievable here. The Tricklandia gallery will deceive your senses and prepare a unique adventure for you. You can combine your visit with a hike to Slavkovský štít peak or to Vodopády Studeného potoka waterfalls. The Tatras are a true paradise for vacationers. Accommodation in Starý Smokovec will pleasantly surprise you with a wide selection of beautiful apartments, villas, private rooms, as well as cabins and cottages in the immediate surrounding area.

Dolný Smokovec - Pod lesom

Dolný Smokovec - Pod lesom

Vysoké Tatry mesto

The Vysoké Tatry are famous for high-quality services, groomed slopes, and ski resorts for even the most demanding skiers. If you are looking for first-class skiing, you will certainly find exactly what you long for beneath the peaks of our highest mountains. But if you are attracted even a little bit by skiing in a quiet resort where the slope will belong almost exclusively to you, we have one place you must visit.

Starý Smokovec is one of the most famous Tatra settlements. The famous funicular railway to Hrebienok, a popular destination for tourists in both summer and winter, also leads from here. Just a few kilometers south lies its brother, Dolný Smokovec. It became famous mainly for treating respiratory diseases in the local children's sanatorium. Beautiful surroundings and fresh air are the main prerequisites not only for treatment, but also for perfect skiing.

A small and inconspicuous ski resort is situated in the part of Dolný Smokovec with the poetic name Pod lesom. Its name is Greguskaski. It lies above the village of Nová Lesná, where you will find plenty of affordable accommodation options in private rentals.

The resort offers only one slope, but given its focus on complete beginners, even that is sufficient. It is of blue difficulty, the lowest category. Its length is 400 meters and it offers an elevation gain of exactly 50 meters. The entire resort sits at an altitude of 874 – 924 meters above sea level. Two ski lifts will take care of your comfort, helping you forget about long queues.

Despite the resort being really small, it offers an artificial snowmaking system. You won't have to worry about a lack of snow. There is also a ski school here. The slope is particularly suitable for those of you stepping onto skis for the very first time. An undeniable asset of this ski resort is the price of ski passes. If you are a beginner skier, it would be wasteful to pay dozens of euros for a skipass in a larger resort when you would spend the whole day learning on a single slope anyway.

In the area, you will find cross-country trails for enthusiasts of the white track. The environment of the Vysoké Tatry is generally extremely attractive and offers dozens, if not hundreds, of leisure opportunities. Whether it is a trip to the aforementioned Hrebienok, evening sledding, or a cable car ride to the peak of Lomnický štít. Alternatively, if you still haven't had enough of skiing, visit Starý Smokovec, Tatranská Lomnica, or Štrbské Pleso.

Finding accommodation near the slope in Dolný Smokovec is not a problem. Just a few dozen meters away are various private accommodations, whether in the Pod lesom area itself or in nearby Nová Lesná. The latter offers attractively priced accommodation in guesthouses, apartments, private rentals, and chalets. Beginner skiers can boldly head to the Vysoké Tatry as well. You just need to know where to go.

In the center of the Spiš region, in the town of Spišská Nová Ves, you will find one of the youngest collecting institutions in Slovakia. Take a look inside a gallery with more than 2,300 pieces of artwork and visual artifacts. Paintings, illustrations, graphics, photographs, and modern intermedial works will captivate visitors young and old. Various cultural and educational activities are prepared for all age groups, complete with educational or interactive execution. Visit one of the 3 permanent exhibitions and broaden your horizons.

The first exhibition, entitled Umelci Spiša, showcased the works of regional artists who developed this area in Spiš. Over time, it was replaced by the permanent exhibition Terra Gothica, which presents a Gothic route created from collections in this artistic style. More than 40 selected authors capture the Spiš region with its architectural gems and places in their works. A modern execution using an interactive panel will lead you through the entire collection remotely if desired. Directly via a map, you can access the depicted places or parts of the landscape.

The permanent exhibition of Jozef Hanula is dedicated to the life and work of this prominent representative of Slovak visual art. It includes an interactive map that serves as a guide to the sites of Jozef Hanula's realizations. There are more than 60 such locations across Slovakia where the author created wall paintings. The collection of three permanent exhibitions concludes with the Záhrada umenia (Garden of Art). In the gallery's exterior, you will find a sculpture exhibition that builds upon the Spiš tradition of co-existence among multiple groups and ethnicities. The collection consists of 16 works made of Spiš travertine, wood, or metal, crafted by artists from Poland, Ukraine, Romania, and the Czech Republic alongside Slovaks. The gallery supplements its program with thematic and temporary exhibitions. For several years, it has been moving forward with the times as part of the Google Art Project, which brings artworks closer to people around the world via the internet.

Evanjelický kostol v Spišskej Novej Vsi

Evanjelický kostol v Spišskej Novej Vsi

Spišská Nová Ves

On Radničné námestie in Spišská Nová Ves stands a charming historical building of the Evanjelický kostol. The main altar, featuring a beautiful painting of Jesus Christ praying on the Mount of Olives, serves as the church's centerpiece. Additionally, the church boasts the oldest preserved library in the Spiš region, located on the choir loft.

The Evanjelický kostol in Spišská Nová Ves was built under the Patent of Toleration from 1781 and, according to the rules of the time, had to be constructed without a tower. Historians have discovered plans for the addition of a tower, but its construction never took place due to a lack of funds. The church will captivate you with its exquisite exterior architecture. It is built in the Neoclassical style, and the floor plan itself takes the shape of a Greek cross. Its builder was master mason František Bartelom, who also drew up the plan for the building. Construction began on March 29, 1790, and the consecration of the church took place six years later, on October 9, 1796.

In addition to the stunning altar and painting of Christ, you will also see an alabaster relief depicting Jesus' conversation with the Samaritan woman at the well. Another valuable treasure is the baptismal font, which originates from a wooden prayer house dating back to the times before the current church was built. The wooden pews are made of larch wood and were crafted by master carpenter Thomas Thern. The organ was built by the Viennese master Friedrich Deutschmann between 1882 and 1883. The church features excellent acoustics, thanks to which it is still used today to host concerts and festivals of organ and classical music.

Since 2013, you can also admire the restored original statues of the four Evangelists, St. John, St. Luke, St. Matthew, and St. Mark. The choir loft houses a rare library belonging to the former Evangelical Gymnasium. On October 15, 1963, the Evanjelický kostol in Spišská Nová Ves was listed in the Register of Cultural Monuments in Slovakia.

Discover other magical places in Spišská Nová Ves as well. Delight your children and take them to the zoo or to the large indoor children's center Alex Park. Galéria Dobrá hračka

Galéria Dobrá hračka

Vysoké Tatry mesto

This unique interactive children's gallery is guided by a revolutionary, yet wonderfully simple idea: "let's play smartly". After all, it was during childhood that many of us discovered the magic of the profession that feeds us today. Play doesn't just mean sitting at a computer. Play in childhood should be full of discoveries, imagination, dreams, laughter, and yes, occasionally some dirt, torn pants, or scraped knees. Galéria Dobrá hračka fosters creativity, teamwork, self-confidence, and spontaneity in children. So don't hesitate and come visit with your children too. You can even host a children's birthday party here or expand your home toy collection with truly unique pieces from the local shop.

In Tatranská Lomnica, right opposite the Múzeum Tatranského národného parku, a children's paradise stretches across an area of 500 m². Remember what it was like to dream about becoming a police officer or an astronaut? With us, children try out the profession firsthand. Little police officers direct traffic here and fine non-compliance with traffic regulations. On top of that, however, they will investigate a crime scene and perhaps even solve a tricky case. An obstacle course will test the fitness of many a little firefighter. Will yours be the one to help a kitten down from a tree?

While one child is drawn to a uniform, the hearts of others will be won over by science. Little doctors will treat minor injuries, learn something new about the human body, and maybe even put together an X-ray image. A future archaeologist will use a hammer slightly different from a medical one when searching for excavations. And who knows, maybe they will find their very first one right at Dobrá hračka. Discovering everyday life is also fascinating, though. How does a cogwheel turn, and what does it need teeth for if it doesn't go to the dentist? Our factory provides the answer, where children have already assembled many a working machine.

If your little princess likes dressing up dolls, you, and herself, perhaps a fashion designer's talent lies within her, just waiting to mature. Mandatory equipment includes tailor's chalk, a tape measure, scissors, and, of course, plenty of creative and quirky ideas. On the runway under the spotlights, they can showcase a graceful walk and command all the attention. Maybe a drummer in the music corner will play to their beat! However, lovers of fast driving will also have fun here. They can cruise the roads (watch out for the police officer!), but also look under the hood of a Formula car in the role of auto mechanics. Check the tires, refuel, and head out! Yet that's still not all, but we won't reveal any more to you so that you have some surprises left.

Good children don't misbehave; good children play. And they love to play most of all in Galéria Dobrá hračka, so come see for yourself as well. Moreover, if you book accommodation near Galéria Dobrá hračka, you can plan a great multi-day trip full of fun. Children and adults alike love the exhibition at the Múzeum Tatranského národného parku, where, for example, they can explore a bear den from the inside. And if you hop on the Tatra electric railway (tatranská električka), all the attractions of Vysoké Tatry will be within reach, hiking, family, relaxation, and gastronomy. The Tatry are indeed a region of unlimited possibilities, so come explore them. Apartments in Tatranská Lomnica and cottages in Vysoké Tatry are already waiting for you.

On the edge of the forest, near an old orchard in Spišský Hrhov, you will find the original Lesná sauna with a breathtaking view of Spišský hrad. At first glance, the sauna will catch your attention with its unconventional shape and semi-transparent construction. The modern concept conceals a traditional Scandinavian-style sauna inside. Come and try sauna bathing in the open air, which is furthermore free of charge.

The Lesná sauna is built of wooden beams with jute fiber insulation in between. The floor is wooden and the shell is made of polycarbonate. If you try it at night, the outer shell glows like a Chinese lantern. This architectural masterpiece was designed by architect Lívia Gažová and the Woven association. The sauna was built and financed by the municipality in cooperation with generous sponsors. In case you are heading to the sauna, visit the operator's website and book the date and time of your visit. The only things you need to bring are drinking water, a towel, or a light source. The wood in the sauna, as well as the cold water in the tub, will already be waiting for you. The keys to the sauna will be handed over to you upon arrival by the manager, and you will be able to heat it up to the required temperature.

Sauna bathing has a beneficial effect on the entire organism. It relieves nervous tension, strengthens blood circulation, thereby also strengthening the heart and thus reducing the risk of a heart attack. In addition, it rejuvenates the skin and speeds up metabolism. Furthermore, the hot air in the sauna induces sweating, through which harmful substances are eliminated from the body. A stay in the sauna should not exceed 15 minutes. Sauna bathing can be repeated 3 to 4 times after replenishing fluids and thoroughly cooling down.

Do something for your health and book your stay in the sauna today. Accommodation near the Lesná sauna can be found on our website accommodation in Spišský Hrhov. Kúpele Horný Smokovec

Kúpele Horný Smokovec

Vysoké Tatry mesto

Located at an altitude of 960 m a.s.l., Kúpele Horný Smokovec is the highest-altitude spa for children and adolescents. They specialize in the treatment of children aged 3 to 18. They are the only Tatra spa focused on the treatment of non-specific respiratory diseases. They take advantage of the presence of high-quality mountain air along with a climate suitable for active outdoor movement. Just looking at the spa, children will feel like they are on vacation rather than in treatment. Modern buildings, numerous playgrounds, greenery all around, and in the background, the panorama of the majestic Tatra peaks.

The Opatrný couple put the sanatorium into operation in 1928. Even for its time, it was modernly and above-standardly equipped, focusing on the treatment of children with tuberculosis. In 1948, the sanatorium was nationalized and operated under the name Detská ozdravovňa Horný Smokovec. In 1971, its focus changed, and children with upper respiratory tract diseases began receiving treatment here. The healing home became part of the state spa system, first Czechoslovak, later Slovak. In 1997, it returned to the hands of the granddaughters of the original owners, who continued the work of their grandparents and preserved the tradition of the sanatorium for children with respiratory diseases.

Children with severely weakened immunity often arrive at Kúpele v Hornom Smokovci. The foundation of the treatment is climatotherapy, which, together with special rehabilitation, helps strengthen immunity and thus improve the quality of life. Climatotherapy treatment is further supplemented by inhalations, electrotherapy (diathermy), light therapy (solux and bioptron), mountain sun (UV therapy), paraffin, stays in saunas (infrared, Finnish, steam, and salt saunas) and a pool, massages, relaxation in a rest room, and physical education.

The spa strives not to evoke a feeling in children that they are in medical treatment. They pay close attention to home-quality food, taking into account the special needs of individual patients. They provide sports, cultural, and leisure programs for children, so they never get bored here. The outdoor playground features slides, climbing frames, and a sandbox. Sitting in a relaxation gazebo or by the garden fireplace also comes in handy. Football, volleyball, and basketball courts are available, and a tennis court is a matter of course. The complex features its own fitness center and saunas.

A primary school, a kindergarten, and an after-school children's club are established at the spa, which children regularly attend during the morning hours. Kúpele Horný Smokovec boasts the oldest school attached to a medical facility in the Slovak Republic, providing primary and lower secondary education. Teachers follow the curriculum that the child brings from their own school. If they do not bring one, they follow their own curriculum. In addition to traditional knowledge, education also brings many supplementary activities. Excursions are organized to explore the Vysoké Tatry region, as well as visits to various galleries and museums. The program also includes puppet shows, playing musical instruments, sports, art, or singing competitions, and discussions on diverse topics. Teachers try to divert the children's thoughts away from their illness. They want to teach them to live with it, smile, maintain their enthusiasm, and jump fully into life. They want every child to get a chance to succeed. And very often, this exact mindset greatly assists the entire healing process.

A matter of course during treatment is also filling the leisure time of children who are on a stay without parent accompaniment. Whenever possible, children are outside in the fresh air. Kúpele Nový Smokovec

Kúpele Nový Smokovec

Vysoké Tatry mesto

Kúpele v Novom Smokovci belong to the most famous climatic spas in Slovakia. Thanks to their high-altitude location in the center of Tatranský národný park (Tatra National Park), at an altitude of 1,010 m above sea level under Slavkovský štít, people with respiratory problems or asthma frequently choose them for their clean mountain air. Indeed, the Tatra climatic conditions are characterized by extraordinary air purity (above the dust and smoke zone) infused with the aroma of natural essential oils, reduced atmospheric pressure, high values of sunshine and ultraviolet radiation, and average humidity. The Kúpeľné zariadenie Nový Smokovec spa facility helps patients diagnosed with non-tuberculous respiratory diseases, metabolic and endocrine disorders, mental illnesses, and occupational diseases.

The historical development of Kúpele Nový Smokovec is both interesting and inspiring. Nový Smokovec was founded by Mikuláš Szontagh, a graduate of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Vienna. He worked as a spa physician in Starý Smokovec, but was not enthusiastic about the conditions that prevailed there. Whenever possible, during the summer seasons he worked in seaside and mountain spa houses in Italy, France, Germany, Switzerland, and the Balkans. However, he was most enchanted by the spas in Montana, Arosa, Opatija, Merano, and Davos, which is when he began to dream his dream of owning his own institute. In 1875, it began to come true as the construction of Nový Smokovec commenced. In 1876, the oldest sanatorium was already opened as the first specialized tuberculosis treatment facility in the Kingdom of Hungary.

Great credit for the construction goes to the land association members from Veľký Slavkov, who leased the land to him for a symbolic price, donated the wood needed for building the sanatorium, and over time sold him additional land at favorable prices. Upon starting the excavation work in 1874, the discovery of a silver coin from the times of Marcus Aurelius and later a metallurgical workshop site came as a surprise. After World War II, the constructed sanatorium became a state spa, operating as a joint-stock company since 1995. Gradually, hotels were renovated, a swimming pool was added, and individual medical procedures were modernized. In 2006, the complex expanded to include a sports hall and a congress center, since 2007 a wellness center, and over time also a relaxation zone with games. A restaurant and three hotels are part of the spa complex. Currently, they operate at a high standard, providing top-quality care to their clients.

Thanks to the high-mountain environment of the spa, the basic treatment method for patients is climatotherapy and active movement in the clean mountain air. The surroundings of Vysoké Tatry are ideal for leisurely walks or easy hikes. In addition, patients are prescribed respiratory rehabilitation and therapeutic physical training (LTV), various inhalations, as well as balneological and physiatric procedures. Everything is complemented by a balanced, rational diet, tailored with various diets and intolerances if necessary.

Kúpele Nový Smokovec use time-tested and proven medical procedures that bring real results to patients: oxygen therapy, Tatra nasal douche, biolamp, shortwave diathermy, Solux, peat packs, various types of massages, magnetotherapy, ultrasound, 4-chamber hydrogalvanic bath, whirlpool, bubble and dry carbon dioxide baths, Scottish showers, Nordic walking, targeted physical education, inhalation, and diadynamic currents. You can try all of this right in Nový Smokovec. A team of qualified, certified doctors, nurses, rehabilitation specialists, and of course, other spa staff will take good care of you.

More and more often, people visit the spa to regenerate their bodies and rest from stress. Therefore, a stay in Nový Smokovec is available both for clients through health insurance and for self-payers. More than 100 offered wellness attractions and procedures taken directly in the heart of nature guarantee perfect relaxation for everyone. The spa also offers stays for corporate clients, whether in the form of a reconditioning stay or an event-organized trip. Indeed, the complex features 3 congress halls for up to 330 people, naturally provided with state-of-the-art equipment. It is not even unusual to have a wedding organized at Kúpele Nový Smokovec. The elegant setting of the hall with French windows, breathtaking Tatra peaks in the background, provided music, decorations, and food, plus a church for a religious ceremony right next to the spa. Sounds almost perfect, don't you think?
