Katedrála sv. Jána Krstiteľa

Katedrála sv. Jána Krstiteľa

Trnava

You will find Katedrála sv. Jána Krstiteľa on Univerzitné námestie, in the northwestern part of Trnava. This Early Baroque cathedral church is the largest and most magnificent twin-towered church in Trnava. Did you know that the Early Baroque altar located here is the tallest altar in Slovakia as well as in Central Europe? In 1978, this church received an honor from Pope John Paul II, who elevated it to a cathedral, and in 2003 he also visited it.

The cathedral ranks among the most valuable historical monuments in Trnava and is part of the building complex of the former Trnavská univerzita. At the same time, it is the first Early Baroque sacred building in Slovakia. The origins of the church are linked to the second arrival of the Jesuits in Trnava. The donor of the church, who also financed the construction, was the Palatine of the Kingdom of Hungary, Mikuláš Esterházy. In 1629, he entrusted its construction to the Italian master builders Antonio and Pietro Spazzo.

The consecration of the church took place on August 30, 1637, by Bishop Juraj Lippai. The first Holy Mass in the church was celebrated by the Archbishop of Esztergom, Imrich Lóši. This single-nave, twin-towered church is 61 m long and 28 m wide. The interior is decorated with colorful paintings that will awe many a visitor. Above its main entrance is a pediment with statues of seated angels and a stone coat of arms of the Esterházy family. Beneath this coat of arms, the stone coat of arms of the Trnavská arcidiecéza is also placed.

The jewel of the entire interior is the magnificent all-wooden altar, which was completed in 1640. The altar is as high as 20.3 m and is the work of several carvers, sculptors, and gilders. Its dominant feature is a painting of Jesus Christ, followed by scenes from the life of John the Baptist. Breathtaking as well is the rich decoration with gilded and polychromed ornaments, three altarpieces, and dozens of artistic sculptures. An interesting fact is that hidden beneath the church are crypts where members of the Society of Jesus and four members of the Esterházy family, who fell in battle against the Turks at Vozokany in 1652, rest.

You can visit the cathedral from May 17 until the end of October, every day except Sunday. If the visit to the cathedral captured your heart, visit Dóm sv. Mikuláša as well, which was declared a basilica minor by Pope Benedict XVI on November 9, 2008. Treat your body to fairy-tale rest and relaxation and enjoy an extraordinary day at Aquapark Trnava. Accommodation near Katedrála sv. Jána Krstiteľa can be found on our accommodation Trnava page. You can choose from a wide range of apartments and guesthouses. We wish you a wonderful holiday full of unforgettable experiences.

In western Slovakia in the town of Trnava, mothers with their children in particular can spend their leisure time at Delfín - Aqua baby club. Here you will teach your little ones to love water, float on their tummies, dive, or orient themselves underwater. The doors of this club are open to you.

Swimming as such is very beneficial for a child's physical and mental development. Therefore, if you have a child older than 5 months and younger than 7 years, feel free to sign them up for one of the swimming courses led by a qualified instructor. At Delfín - Aqua baby club, children's joy spreads and is so contagious that, as a parent, you will leave rested and full of energy.

Did you know that an 8-month-old baby can save itself during an accidental fall into the water thanks to practising the correct techniques? Little ones adapt to a new environment here, while you provide them with new skills and experiences. After the course, many mothers praise improvements in their children's appetite, sleep, physical fitness, and especially the deepening of the bond between parent and child.

The course itself takes place in a pool. However, this one is special because it contains salt water with a salt concentration similar to a human tear. Thus, there is no risk of red eyes. The water temperature is around 33°C. It is not just about swimming, but also about the fact that every lesson is followed by wellness, not for the parents, but for the little ones. Relaxing music, aromatherapy, and treatment with essences and colored light will captivate them.

If you have hyperactive children and want to entertain them a bit, change them into everyday clothes and let them play in the playroom. They will romp and burn off so much energy that they will simply fall asleep from exhaustion in the evening. Maybe it won't be at home, maybe it will be in accommodation near Delfín - Aqua baby club.

Start the day with swimming and then head out with your little one for a walk to Trnavské rybníky. It is a protected area where you can find a spot for a picnic and spend a nice day in nature. In the Malé Karpaty mountains, set in the picturesque nature of the Trnava Region, you will find the protected area Trnavské rybníky in the district of Trnava. Its area spans more than 38 hectares and extends into the cadastral territories of the village of Hrnčiarovce nad Parnou as well as the city of Trnava. Since 1974, when the area was declared protected, the 3rd and 4th levels of nature protection have applied here. The subject of protection is waterfowl and aquatic biocenoses.

Around Trnavské rybníky, you can spot approximately 200 species of birds, as many as 150 of which are protected species. Some of them are truly very rare, and it is difficult to see them anywhere else. Likewise, there is an interesting composition of flora here, which, together with the environment and climate, creates perfect conditions of symbiosis for nesting birds. Listening to the rustling of the surrounding remnants of the floodplain forest, the sounds of birdlife, and watching the calm water surface at the same time is truly very soothing. That is likely one of the reasons why the place is a frequent destination for walks.

You can take these walks along a network of surrounding dirt paths and trails. When the ground is warm, bring a blanket with you and spread it out on the grassy banks. Whether you have a picnic directly or just relax while reading a book is up to you. Especially in autumn, it is fascinating to watch the beautifully colored trees stretching along the banks and casting fabulous colorful reflections on the water surface. Nature is the best painter, and its paintings are different every day, never the same, and always breathtaking.

Your steps can lead you to the nearby local park. There, it is not unusual to meet active individuals on roller skates or bicycles. Locals often come here for a run as well, saying it clears their heads wonderfully. However, Trnavské rybníky is not the only place you can visit during your stay in Trnava. Dóm sv. Mikuláša or Katedrála sv. Jána Krstiteľa also have their charm. The building of Galéria Jána Koniarka – Kopplova vila is also architecturally beautifully designed.

Of course, there are also many options for entertainment and leisure, whether within wellness services, summer swimming, or evening entertainment. You need to experience Trnava, ideally by securing lodging for several days on the page accommodation in Trnava. That way, you will have your accommodation close to Trnavské rybníky and all other attractions. Do not forget to bring friends or family with you. Dolná Krupá

You will find a unique Neoclassical manor house dating back to the 18th century in the village of Dolná Krupá, in the Trnava district. A spacious English park is an integral part of the manor house. Enjoy a romantic walk in this enchanting setting. Explore the exhibition spaces of the manor house and take a look into the past. It is ideal to confirm your tour in advance by phone.

Upon entering, the fountain in the courtyard of the manor house will catch your eye. The manor house is considered the most beautiful example of rural Neoclassical architecture in Slovakia. Its owners at the time, the Brunswick family, made not only the manor house famous, but also the village of Dolná Krupá through their artistic collections of paintings, books, and minerals. The manor house even featured a theater building. The Brunswicks were lovers of art and music. Ludwig van Beethoven himself taught their daughters to play the piano right inside the manor house. Due to his non-noble origin, the composer stayed in a garden house rather than with the nobility in the main house. The Ludwig van Beethoven Memorial is part of the garden. During the tour of the manor house, you will also take a look into the music museum.

The Brunswick family, and later the Chotek family, was the last to experience the great glory of the manor house. This opulent residence, where high society used to gather, began to decline from the time of World War I. The aforementioned park once enjoyed great popularity for its flora. Among the last to reside in the manor house, until the mid-20th century, was Countess Maria Henrietta Chotek, who created a magnificent rose garden in the park that was the largest in Central Europe. The original park also featured three lakes. Unfortunately, only the original torso is preserved today. The manor house has undergone an extensive reconstruction, which delights not only the residents of Dolná Krupá.

Take advantage of this beautiful setting and surroundings, which offer opportunities for walks and outdoor activities. Come for a walk to the nearby Trnavské rybníky protected area, which is known for birdwatching over 200 species of birds. Looking for a summer refreshment? The Suchá nad Parnou water reservoir in the nearby village of the same name is a spot for total relaxation and soaking up the sun's rays. The environment with views of Malé Karpaty is a sought-after recreational location. A unique natural swimming experience is offered by the Kamenný mlyn swimming pool in the nearby town of Trnava. The complex also features options for active leisure through sports games.

Budmerický kaštieľ

Budmerický kaštieľ

Budmerice

Come and enjoy the beauty of Budmerický kaštieľ manor house, which is located in the village of Budmerice and ranks among the landmarks of this village. This is not only thanks to its stunning appearance, but also due to the wonderful 19th-century English park. Every year, it is visited not only by locals, but also by foreign tourists.

This beautiful manor house was built by Count Ján Pálffy together with his wife. The count was a hunting enthusiast, so the manor house originally served mainly for these purposes. The manor house itself draws from several architectural styles. It was inspired mainly by the French Renaissance. Although the exterior resembles older artistic styles, the interior was adapted to the living requirements of the modern era of that time. An interesting feature is that it includes a dumbwaiter, central heating, and numerous staircases.

Locals experienced unique feelings even back then during a stroll through the English park. In its vicinity, Count Pálffy had a chapel built dedicated to Our Lady of Lourdes. A legend is tied to the manor house, in which the count fell in love with a French comtesse. He wanted to transform his two residences into the style of French châteaux and then marry her. By the time he succeeded, the young lady was reportedly already married.

After the count's death, the manor house turned into a center of social life, where his son Pavol organized various gatherings and hunts. After World War II, the manor house was looted, subsequently passed into the hands of the state, and is currently managed by the Ministry of Culture. During opening hours, you can view its permanent exhibition here. Can you imagine what it would be like to spend a night here? Unfortunately, that is unrealistic for now, but you can easily book accommodation near Kaštieľ Budmerice.

In Budmerice, you will admire this amazing building. Know that you can also expand your trip by visiting Hrad Červený Kameň castle. You can go horseback riding with your children at Margitin dvor. On hot days, you can cool off in the Suchá nad Parnou water reservoir. Keep in mind that it is great to book affordable accommodation in Budmerice in advance. Kukuričné bludisko

Kukuričné bludisko

Vlčkovce

A unique attraction is located in the village of Vlčkovce, between the towns of Trnava and Sereď. Two mazes, which span an area of 4.5 hectares, are designed for both young and old. Come and spend time with friends or family in a natural environment and enjoy this unique experience. During the summer season, when the maze is open, themed maze quests featuring fairy-tale or spooky characters are prepared.

You can make the most of the time you spend in the maze by enjoying a barbecue at two prepared fire pits with seating, or take a look around the surroundings from the local observation tower. The maze complex also includes attractions such as a pyramid made of straw bales, an educational trail with animals for the little ones, or a sundial.

The route of the maze is, of course, different every year. The smaller maze is approximately 1 km long. Its route is intended for the youngest curious visitors. Along the way, they will learn various interesting facts, for example, about insects. Visiting the maze thus also has an educational character. The large maze with a length of more than 2 km is somewhat more complex. Believe us that in order to get out and find all the clues or boards, you will walk through the maze several times. In addition to the mentioned themed events, night maze roaming can also be an unforgettable experience. However, you do not have to fear any ghosts at that time. But wandering through the dark can still have a scary feel to it.

You can continue with adrenaline activities in the nearby rope park Tarzania Vlčkovce. More than 10 obstacles at a height of 4 to 8 meters will test your agility. For the smallest "Little Tarzans", a 25 m long zip line is prepared. We recommend ending an active day in the western town Ranč na Striebornom jazere. You can try horseback riding, look at the animals, or enjoy good food.

Do not hesitate and come enjoy a great trip. If you are looking for accommodation near Kukuričné bludisko, you are in the right place. In our offer of accommodation in Vlčkovce, you will find a wide selection of guesthouses or cottages, or you can book other accommodation in the district of Trnava.

Seredský kaštieľ

Seredský kaštieľ

Sereď

Come and take a look at the remnants of history reaching into the present at the Seredský kaštieľ in Sereď. It is a classical mansion that stands on the former Šintavský hrad. Today, it ranks among national cultural monuments that you certainly should not miss when visiting Sereď.

The history of this mansion is interesting. Originally a medieval castle from the 17th century, it was transformed into a Renaissance fortress and later a mansion. The history of the mansion connected with the castle thus dates back to the 11th century, when its foundation was merely a multi-story prismatic tower. Over time, the castle was transformed and expanded with new parts. If you had lived at that time, you would certainly have been interested in the entrance gate with a tower and a drawbridge across the moat. Even though the castle fortifications were gradually dismantled and the moats filled in, the overall atmosphere will surely charm you.

Over the course of three centuries, the four-bastion fortress changed into a Baroque mansion, which was later rebuilt in the classical style. It must have been wonderful to stroll through the summer salon, the library salon with over a thousand book titles, the countess's dressing room, the silver room, or the playroom. A total of 14 rooms and the corridors of the mansion were truly opulent for that time. The surroundings of the mansion were practically made for walks, as there was a well-maintained English park located here. The use of the mansion by German soldiers during World War II, its devastation by the Russian army, or the completion of the destruction by local residents left damage on this monument.

Mostly during summer and cultural events, you can visit the premises of the Seredského kaštieľa. At other times, it is only possible by agreement with the city employees. The mansion is currently in the hands of the city, which is trying to restore this monumental monument. Even the councilors decided that it would be a pity not to use the premises, which is why exhibitions, concerts, or other events are occasionally held here. Mostly this is in the area, not inside the building. You might manage to visit such an event and need to book suitable accommodation near the Seredského kaštieľa in advance.

In Sereď, you will find many ways to spend time together. A chill runs down your spine at the Múzeu holokaustu. However, it is good to show young people what happened in the past. Perhaps right after such an experience, you will head to clear your head at the Plaváreň ZŠ Juraja Fándlyho. Water has very positive effects on the human body, and in combination with sports, you will do something beneficial for your body.

Do not worry about not finding accommodation in Sereď. It is a relatively large town that provides multiple accommodation facilities. You might be interested in a small wooden cottage in the nearby cottage settlement. Much more space for accommodation is provided by the Sereď hostels. Think about the fact that it is important to choose the right type of accommodation and spend a great stay connected with a visit to the mansion.

Observing the night sky is one of the oldest activities in human history. In the past, people navigated by the stars and even used the starry sky as a calendar. If you are interested in astronomy, come to Hvezdáreň a planetárium M. R. Štefánika v Hlohovci and look into the infinite universe through the second largest telescope in Slovakia.

The history of astrology itself is as old as humanity. Observing the stars and mapping them led people to tell various stories, which were often connected with supernatural beings. Only later did they begin to write down and compare the results of their observations, which led to the construction of observatories. Institutions where scientists observe, study, and analyze natural phenomena.

The desire for knowledge also stands behind the creation of this observatory. Several enthusiasts from the pharmaceutical plant at the time decided to establish an Astronomy Club under the Works Club ROH at Slovakofarma. The initial impulse was a sale of old, high-quality military optics for cheap. However, they arrived too late for that, and the equipment was already sold out. Nevertheless, this changed nothing in their decision, and on February 10, 1954, the history of astronomy in Hlohovec began to be written.

The mission of the club was to organize popular-science lectures and pass on knowledge about the universe to the youth. It was also tasked with carrying out professional astronomical observations and establishing a public observatory. The grand opening of Hvezdáreň a planetárium M. R. Štefánika took place on November 29, 1958. Alongside the observatories in Prešov, Levice, and Humenné, it thus became the fourth scientific research institute for astronomical observations in Slovakia established after World War II.

The observatory provides several programs for schools, kindergartens, and the general public, including observations, lectures, seminars, and screenings of various professional and educational documentary films. The hall with a capacity of 56 seats houses a high-quality Zeiss ZKP-2 planetarium, which allows projecting an artificial sky, the Sun and the solar system, the Moon, planets, and stars, as well as the Milky Way.

In addition, the observatory engages in observations and regularly publishes its findings in professional literature. Observational activities for both the public and scientific purposes are provided by the observation and research department. Do not forget to arrange your visit to this interesting place in advance by phone.

After an engaging excursion, visit Hlohovský zámok and walk through the magnificent French terraced gardens in the chateau park. Hlohovský zámok

Hlohovec

Kaštieľ v Hlohovci, also known as Hlohovský or Hlohovecký zámok, is the most significant historical monument of this beautiful town in the Trnavský kraj region. It stands south of Hlohovec, on the edge of a large tree park with French terraces. Its tour can also be called "history in a modern outfit." Welcome, step inside and soak in the atmosphere.

Originally, Hlohovský hrad stood on this site, built in the 11th century. The first written mention of the original medieval castle Hlohovec appears in the so-called Zobor Document from 1113. From 1275, the castle belonged to the Aba family, when the Hungarian King Ladislaus IV granted it to the first feudal lord, Aba the Great. The castle had several owners. It was owned by Matthew Cák, the Ujlaky family, in the 15th century it became the seat of the Hussites, between 1524 and 1636 it was in the hands of the Thurzo family, and from 1720 it belonged to the Erdődy family. It was the Erdődy family who rebuilt the original castle into a Baroque manor house and brought it to the form we know today. In 1945, Soviet troops entered the town, and Hlohovecký kaštieľ became a hospital for Soviet soldiers. For a certain period after their departure, a garrison of the Czecho-Slovak army was stationed in the chateau. Today, the chateau is owned by the town of Hlohovec, which protects and continuously improves its historical jewel.

A combination of modern and historical? No problem in Hlohovec.

That history is boring? A visit to Hlohovecký zámok will convince you otherwise. It offers an extraordinary experience in the form of experiencing history through virtual reality. You will sit in 180-degree swivel armchairs, put on 3D glasses, and find yourself in the distant past. You will see how noble families lived and spent their time and recreational whims. Using tablets with augmented reality, you can view the unrestored areas of the chateau, in direct contrast with stunning graphical visualizations of their original state. You will be accompanied through the 60-minute tour by professionally educated guides who will provide high-quality information and add spicy stories and intriguing tidbits.

A popular place for walks is the French terraced gardens in the chateau park. And not only for lovers. Legends circulate among the residents of Hlohovec about escape tunnels from the chateau. They are assumed to be true. Ground-penetrating radar surveys in the chateau garden indeed revealed local cavities at a depth of about four meters. These were supposed to lead from the battalion towards the greenhouses along the edge of the slope.

An unforgettable experience is visiting the chateau in the evening hours, when the chateau lights up in seven colors thanks to magnificent and grand illumination that changes color and intensity. Thanks to a modern elevator and barrier-free sanitary facilities, the manor house is also accessible to visitors with mobility impairments. There is also a souvenir sale, which will remind you of this wonderful Hlohovec gem for a long time to come.

Hrad Červený kameň

Hrad Červený kameň

Častá

There are numerous castle ruins located in Slovakia. However, castles that still look today exactly as they did centuries ago are considerably fewer. If you want to catch a glimpse into the lives of the wealthiest people in the past and see how they lived and resided, you have a unique opportunity. Hrad Červený Kameň castle is extraordinarily well-preserved and still looks today exactly as it did centuries ago.

You will find the castle in the Malé Karpaty mountains. It lies near the town of Modra, known not only for its beautiful and rare ceramics, but also for traditional winemaking. You can reach it from the village of Častá or from the small village of Píla. Access to the castle is also suitable for the elderly and children. You can park or take a bus all the way up directly in front of the castle.

The history of the castle dates back to the first half of the 13th century. It was built by the Bohemian queen widow, Constance of Hungary. Later, the castle became a royal castle and formed an important defense line of the border zone. It stretched from Bratislava, through the entire Považie region, up to Žilina. The castle passed through the hands of several prominent families. It was ruled by Matúš Čák Trenčiansky, as well as the Zápoľský and Turzo families.

The new history of Hrad Červený Kameň began in 1535. The castle was acquired by one of the richest European families, the Fugger family. They embarked on a major reconstruction. They wanted to turn the castle into a defensive fortress to store goods. This merchant family began demolishing the castle while simultaneously constructing new parts. The present-day appearance of the castle originates precisely from this period. Four massive defensive bastions served to protect the fortress, and residential buildings were gradually added. The dominant feature is a huge residential wing. The castle turned into a modern and comfortable trading fortress with an excellent commercial location near Vienna.

The political situation was worsening, and the risk of Turkish and Tatar invasions was becoming increasingly acute. The Fugger family ultimately decided to sell the castle, and the Pálffy family became the buyers. They owned the castle from 1588 until 1945. A few years later, the castle was declared state cultural property. Today, you will find beautiful exhibitions of furniture, carpets, and traditional martial arts here. The largest carpet at the castle covers more than 44 square meters. The local library holds an incredible 14,312 books, and if you wanted to line them up in a single row, it would be almost 300 meters long. The castle is full of superlatives and former luxury, which you can see with your own eyes.

The Malé Karpaty are popular among tourists not only thanks to their beautiful nature. One of the greatest attractions is precisely Hrad Červený Kameň. You can find accommodation directly below the castle, in the village of Častá. There are numerous private accommodations and homestay options in family houses. If you are looking for the hustle and bustle of the town, choose accommodation in Modra. There are many hotels and guesthouses in the town, some even with their own wine cellar, which wine lovers in particular will appreciate. Come and discover the beauties of the Malé Karpaty as well.

Molpír

Molpír

Smolenice

If you find yourself in the vicinity of Smolenický zámok and you like nature, we have an excellent tip for a trip for you. Above the village of Smolenice, in the Malé Karpaty mountain range, the hill Molpír rises to a height of 354 m above sea level. Here, over an area of 14 hectares, lie the remnants of a hillfort from the Early Iron Age. Engage your children in exploration and set out with them on an easy hike combined with discovery and fun.

These ruins were first mapped and explored by the Smolenice priest Sándorfi in 1890. It is estimated that the hillfort originated approximately in the 6th century BC. This unique fortification was built from dry-stacked stone with reinforced embankments and a wooden structure. The entire area can be divided into three spaces, two outer baileys and an acropolis, which were protected by ramparts. Dwellings in the upper outer bailey and the acropolis were constructed using log building techniques, with walls plastered with clay and floors laid with flat stones. Heating was provided by simple hearths as well as domed ovens.

During its heyday, approximately 800 people lived in the hillfort. The inhabitants engaged in craft production, the manufacture of weapons and knives, casting of bronze vessels, production of stone querns, and they also produced threads and fabrics. Archaeologists found remnants of hand-carved bones with spiral decoration, numerous spindle whorls, loom weights, and ceramics at the hillfort site. An exhibition of these finds can be found in Múzeum Molpír.

The educational trail Smolenický kras, which begins near the Smolenice church, will lead you right to the hillfort. While ascending Molpír hill, you can enjoy a beautiful view of Smolenický zámok. Part of the trail includes information boards and two replicas of historical log cabins.

In the surroundings of Smolenice, there are many interesting places worth seeing. On your wanderings, definitely visit the gorgeous Smolenický zámok and discover the underground world of Jaskyňa Driny as well. After a day full of experiences, treat yourself to a rest and stay in a cozy cottage or use the services of local guesthouses. Jaskyňa Driny

Jaskyňa Driny

Smolenice

When spending your vacation in the Malé Karpaty mountains or near Smolenice, famous for its romantic chateau, take a trip to Jaskyňa Driny. The cave is among the smaller ones. However, what it loses in size, it makes up for in the beauty of its underground world.

Jaskyňa Driny is characterized by one unique feature. It is the only accessible cave in Western Slovakia. You will find it northeast of the town of Trnava, just one kilometer from the aforementioned Smolenice. You can reach the cave via a comfortable forest road; at its end, prepare to conquer the final 100 stairs. Near the cave, you will find several information boards about the origin of the mountain range, the cave, as well as the animals living in the surrounding forests. After the climb, you can refresh yourself at the adjacent bar with an original name Speleobar.

The first mentions of the cave date back to 1866, when Prussian troops camped near its entrance during the Austro-Prussian War. They did not aim to explore the cave; the first discovery attempts began only in 1920. Interestingly, one of the explorers was also Štefan Banič. Is this name familiar to you? It should be. He is the person who invented the parachute. He explored access to the cave together with his son Ján, who discovered the entrance 9 years later, in 1929. The cave was opened to the public in 1934. Today, the cave is open every day except Monday. On the internet, you can also find the exact entry times depending on whether you decide to visit during or outside the tourist season.

The length of the accessible route is 450 meters, and the cave tour will take you just over half an hour. The elevation gain inside is 10 meters, so you will hardly feel it, while the temperature represents a pleasant 7–8 °C. In the winter months, you will even warm up under the earth's surface.

Inside the cave, on a small area, there are many karst formations, such as sinter pools or curtains with characteristic serrations, typical only for Jaskyňa Driny. The cave was created thanks to a system of fissures that water expanded over thousands of years. In it, you will find mostly narrow corridors and only a few larger cave spaces, or halls. One of them is the Sieň Slovenskej speleologickej spoločnosti hall. Despite the small area of the cave, it is extremely popular with bats. As many as 11 species of these animals have found their home here.

The Malé Karpaty mountains are extremely attractive to tourists in themselves. There are numerous hiking trails, Smolenický zámok, Hrad Červený Kameň, the Jahodník recreational center, and Jaskyňa Driny itself. Thanks to these attractions, it will be no problem to find accommodation in one of the nearby villages. The closest ones are Horné Orešany and Smolenice. Here, demanding clients will find hotel accommodation with all the necessary comfort and care. Family accommodation in guesthouses is also available, or you can rent a chalet just for yourself for your stay, from which you can set out anytime on an expedition into the underground of Jaskyňa Driny.

Kláštor Katarínka

Kláštor Katarínka

Dechtice

On the border of the municipalities of Dechtice and Naháč, approximately 20 kilometers north of the regional town of Trnava, a historical treasure is hidden in the forests. Kláštor Katarínka or also the Kláštor sv. Kataríny Alexandrijskej once belonged to the Franciscans, who inhabited this area in the 17th century. If you head here and expect a grandiose structure, you are mistaken. Only a ruin of the monastery and a reconstructed tower remain here, where during opening hours you will receive an engaging commentary from guides.

Not even many local residents know this monument. Deeply hidden, the extensive Baroque monastery complex was founded in 1618 on the spot where a Gothic chapel with a cemetery once stood long ago. According to legend, Saint Catherine appeared here to the young count and hermit Ján Apponyi. Malé Karpaty are thus worth visiting not only for hiking, but also for this pilgrimage site.

In the 17th century, you would meet several monks and novices from the Archdiocese of Esztergom here. After numerous attacks, whether they were estate uprisings or Ottoman incursions, the monks managed to repair the destroyed monastery every time. However, based on the decree of Joseph II in 1786, the monastery was abolished and began to fall into disrepair. Today, when you arrive at this place, you will feel a special magical atmosphere and you will find only the ruins that remained here.

An interesting feature of this place is that the tower located here was added to the monastery later. Its height reaches 30 meters, which means approx. 5 floors. The tower served as a bell tower. On its corners were four statues of saints from the Franciscan order. The current state is that you can visit here and enjoy the views from the newly built additional floor. You can see as far as the highest peak of the Carpathians, which is Záruby. In good weather, it is possible to see Trnava.

Getting to the monastery is not very difficult. Even though it does not lie on sought-after tourist trails or main roads, you will certainly reach it on foot. From Naháč it is about 40 minutes, from Dechtice and from Dobrá Voda approximately an hour and twenty minutes. Perhaps the best way is to arrive on the Lesná železnička Katarínka, which also has a stop directly by the monastery. Keep in mind that accommodation near Kláštor Katarínka needs to be booked in advance so that you can enjoy your stay perfectly.

Dechtice are also sought after for the Lesná železnička Katarínka. The ride on it is great. In the surrounding area, you can also check out the Kaštieľ v Chtelnici, which was once visited by Maria Theresa. In the summer season, as a family, you can head to Kúpalisko Dobrá Voda and thus spend pleasant moments of life. If you would rather prefer adrenaline in your blood, you might raise it during a Vyhliadkový let Boleráz. Of course, after this experience, it is good to calm down in a room at guest house Dechtice.
