The history of the thermal spring begins in 1973. A borehole nearly 2 kilometres deep aimed to find water usable for heating greenhouses. However, due to the spring's exceptional properties and its convenient location, it began to be used for recreational purposes. Pools, sanitary facilities, and changing rooms sprang up here very quickly. Later, a restaurant and a hotel were added as well. In the early 1990s, the facility underwent reconstruction. Since that period, the swimming pool area has been constantly expanding and refining its services and offerings.
The miraculous water in Podhájska reaches a temperature of almost 80 °C at the spring. For use, it is naturally diluted to a temperature of around 30 degrees. You can visit the thermal swimming pool complex at any time of year, with the exception of April. Bathing in an outdoor hot pool in the cold winter is certainly an unusual experience. In addition to perfect relaxation, the thermal salt water has a beneficial effect on various ailments. These mainly include musculoskeletal problems. Very good effects have also been recorded with skin conditions and respiratory tract diseases.
The swimming pool complex currently consists of several facilities. The recently opened wellness center Aquamarin features an outdoor and indoor pool world, a Turkish bath, and a botanical garden. The main indoor pool is equipped with numerous water attractions. Inside you will also find whirlpool pools and a children's pool. Part of the wellness center is the so-called Vital World. Its offer includes, for example, saunas, a water hell, or an icefall. The relaxation and reconditioning complex offers many complementary services. Here too, you will find saunas, a solarium, a fitness center, and even a hairdresser and cosmetics. You can also try hydrotherapy, electrotherapy, or massages. As for the pools themselves, the selection is very wide. There are two children's pools, two recreational pools, a sitting pool, pools with attractions and a water slide, a pool for swimmers, and a pool for non-swimmers.
If you get tired of the water, you can spend your time doing other activities. A playground with a sandbox awaits children. Adults can play soccer or volleyball on the sand court, or make use of the aforementioned massages, saunas, and fitness center. If you are lucky, the annual Slávnosti ľudových remesiel (Crafts Fair) might take place right at the time of your stay. Right above the village of Podhájska lie the ruins of an old monastery with a beautiful view of the surrounding landscape. The local village pond can also be the destination of a pleasant walk. The wider surroundings are also full of various interesting places. It is certainly worth seeing the arboretum near Tesárske Mlyňany or the stud farm in Nový Tekov. Complementing the water relaxation can be the salt cave in Starý Tekov. Interesting historical towns in this region are Nové Zámky, Nitra, and Levice.
