Skalné obydlia Brhlovce

Skalné obydlia Brhlovce

Brhlovce

Skalné obydlia Brhlovce are an exposed branch of the Tekovské múzeum v Leviciach. They are located in the village of the same name, Brhlovce, in the Nitriansky kraj, which is a protected reserve of folk architecture. It is a unique Slovak example of a distinctive form of folk architecture, which allegedly originally served as protection against the looting raids of the Turks, and later as homes for the poor.

The exhibition, which was opened to the public in 1992, consists of homestead number 142 in the "Šurda" lane. Part of the homestead where the exhibition is located includes a brick house from the end of the 19th century, a brick house dated 1932 on the facade, and two-story spaces carved into the rock. The ground floor consists of a summer kitchen, a pantry, and a display of period stonemason products and tools. The upper floor consists of a small chamber and a viewing terrace. The impression is completed by period furniture with which the interior is furnished.

The very carving of the dwellings into the tuff is considered unique because they possess a special property. That is, they stay cool in the summer and warm in the winter. Utilizing this thermal advantage during the construction of the dwellings demonstrates the cleverness, resourcefulness, and skill of the settlers of that time and their overall way of life.

Thanks to the exhibition of rock dwellings, Tekovské múzeum v Leviciach became the first Slovak institution in 1994 to receive the prestigious Europa Nostra international award. A surprising fact is that some of the rock dwellings are still inhabited or used as wine cellars or utility spaces to this day.

If you want to verify this for yourself, there is only one guaranteed way. Come and see it with your own eyes. Since the entire region also offers many other interesting attractions, the best thing to do is to plan a multi-day trip. You can easily book accommodation from which all trip options will be closest on the pages accommodation Nitriansky kraj and accommodation Levice.

It is an interactive information center focused mainly on education about energy and electricity production. Most of us learned in school about how energy is generated in power plants. In Mochovce, they succeeded in building the educational center Energoland in 2014, where you can see this process with your own eyes in an interactive and highly engaging way. The center is located in the village of Kalná nad Hronom, which lies between Levice and Nitra. Entrance to the center is free of charge, so not only students but also adult visitors can find something to enjoy.

Energoland consists of more than 30 objects, applications, and interactive exhibits. Through the combination of entertainment and education, its visitors can gain information not only about energy and electricity production, but also about global warming or the carbon footprint. Have you heard about the energy mix, how the power grid is managed, or what radiation affects us? So that you do not focus your perspective only on information about nuclear energy, you can learn more about the sources from which energy can be produced via boards or a mobile app. It does not have to be just water, the sun, or wind; there can be other options as well.

An interesting feature of this project is that a virtual guide named Gaia, which in Greek mythology means the mother of Earth, will accompany you throughout the entire tour. She can direct you to a 3D cinema, where you will be thrilled by the movie blockbuster Odyssey of Energy (Odysea energie). The film presents information about the development of the universe, Earth, and energy sources since the Big Bang 13.8 billion years ago. Popular exhibits also include a model of an emission-free motorcycle, an engaging interactive LED floor, or a thermal mirror. The Energy Map (Mapa energie) will also guide you in the right direction. If you do not know what to imagine under that name, set off to Energoland.

Enthusiastic from the tour and with photos in your mobile device, you can leave for your homes. If you are not directly from the Levice district, it is a good idea to plan a visit to Energoland as one of the places to head out to on a trip. You can continue to Tekovská hvezdáreň observatory, where they will bring all the formations in our sky closer to you. From there, you can also go for a great horseback ride. Peaceful horses are kept directly at Ranč u Bobiho. In Levice, which is just a few kilometers from Kalná nad Hronom, you can delve into history thanks to the local castle, Levický hrad. Is this too much information for you? No problem. It is good to process it in the bed of your accommodation near Energoland. As a family, you can easily book a separate cottage in Kalná nad Hronom and enjoy a pleasant summer holiday. If you visit this place with a school during an excursion, staying in a hostel in Kalná nad Hronom will be more economical and budget-friendly for you. Lipovina

Lipovina

Bátovce

The Lipovina water reservoir is located in the Nitriansky kraj region near the village of Bátovce, not far from the town of Levice. This water body lies on the border of the Podunajská nížina lowland and the Štiavnické vrchy. It is a popular spot not only for locals who come here to relax by the water, but also for fishermen and vacationers looking to swim or unwind.

Lipovina was built on the stream called Jabloňovka in the 1960s. Its primary purpose was agricultural use for irrigating surrounding fields. In addition, the reservoir served to balance water flow and provide flood protection. The Lipovina water body has always attracted local residents, who also took care of its surroundings. They built sanitary facilities, buffets, a restaurant, and even a campsite here.

Since the inflow of the Jabloňovka stream is no longer as strong, the water in the Lipovina reservoir stagnates rather than exchanges. Therefore, the water quality is no longer what it used to be, and swimming is permitted at your own risk. Nevertheless, families with children and groups of friends enjoy gathering here. Children splash around in the water while adults refresh themselves at the buffets and enjoy the sun-drenched beach. Access to the water is gradual, and the surrounding nature full of trees provides plenty of shade if you want to hide from the sun.

You can comfortably reach the Lipovina water reservoir by car, as well as on foot or by bike along the educational trail named „Okolo mesta kráľovien“. That is what Bátovce used to be called. It starts at the Roman Catholic Church of Svätý Martin in Bátovce and ends at the water reservoir. Its length is 5.3 kilometers and it will lead you past the Bátovská kúria manor house, across the Baroque bridge (Barokový most), further through the Ľochy wine-growing settlement, where the Lipovina grape variety is grown, all the way to the reservoir of the same name. Information boards will tell you a piece of history about the town where queens used to meet.

The Bátovské jazero, as it is also called, is a paradise for fishermen. Cyprinid fish thrive here, and given its quiet and peaceful location, the Lipovina reservoir is made for a proper fishing trip. In addition to carp and pike-perch, catfish were also stocked here in the past. So fishermen, grab your rods and catch your fish.

Thinking about a holiday in the Tokaj region? We offer you accommodation near the Lipovina water reservoir and accommodation in the Levice district on our portal. Whether you are looking for a comfortable guest house, a family apartment, a cottage, or a chalet, you will certainly choose from us.
