Medvedie dni

Medvedie dni

Vysoké Tatry mesto

The Medvedie dni festival at Hrebienok represents the largest and most popular family festival in the Vysoké Tatry, which every year transforms the alpine environment into a world full of children's joy, bears, and fairytale adventures.

The event takes place during the summer holidays at Hrebienok, in the cadastral area of the town of Vysoké Tatry, in the district of Poprad. The main symbol of the festival is the bear, whose presence permeates the entire program, ranging from theater performances and concerts for children to various educational and sports activities. Visitors can look forward to performances by popular children's artists, creative workshops, and inflatable attractions, which are sensitively situated around the upper station of the funicular. An important pillar of the festival is education about the life of the brown bear and the protection of Tatra fauna, which takes place in a playful form under the auspices of experts from the national park. During these days, the entire Hrebienok area pulses with exceptional energy, where natural scenery mixes with children's laughter and the aroma of Tatra specialties. Due to high attendance and limited transport capacity, funicular operations from Starý Smokovec are strengthened during the festival, while many visitors also take advantage of the easy walk up the asphalt road. Over the years of its existence, Medvedie dni has built the status of an event that successfully connects modern entertainment with respect for the mountains, representing the first intense contact with the beauty of the Vysoké Tatry for many children.

What can you find here?

In the Hrebienok area, you will find the main stage featuring a cultural program, numerous interactive stations with a bear theme, and educational zones of the Štátne lesy TANAP-u. Refreshment stands, relaxation areas with bean bags, and facilities in the form of a restaurant in the funicular building are available. An integral part of the festival includes photo spots with bear mock-ups and mascots moving directly among visitors.

Who is the place suitable for?

The festival is primarily intended for families with children of all ages looking for an active program in a mountain environment. It is also sought after by tourists who want to enhance their visit to the Tatras with a cultural experience, as well as fans of the children's music scene. Layered sportswear and sturdy footwear are recommended for attending the festival, as the event takes place outdoors in high-mountain terrain with variable weather.

What can you visit in the surroundings?

Located directly at Hrebienok is the year-round attraction Tatranský dóm (in winter) or the interactive light gallery Kvantarium. Just a few minutes' walk from the area, the Vodopády Studeného potoka waterfalls or the historic Rainerova chata, the oldest chalet in the Tatras, are accessible. From Starý Smokovec, which serves as the starting point, you can visit the optical illusion gallery Tricklandia or take a hike up Slavkovský štít.
