Banské múzeum Štôlňa Andrej

Banské múzeum Štôlňa Andrej

Kremnica

Among the significant mining towns in our territory is Kremnica, which is located in the beautiful Kremnické vrchy mountains. It was precisely here that gold and silver were mined in the past, later making their way to the mint. However, to see how this mineral wealth is extracted from the earth, visit the Banské múzeum Štôlňa Andrej.

This atypical museum, located just a few minutes from the town centre, will take you into the secrets of the Kremnica underground. Long ago, mineral resources were mined here. Local enthusiasts and lovers of mining history breathed life back into it and transformed the adit into a museum designed to introduce mining to its visitors. Along the 660 m long route, you will learn many interesting facts about the hard work of miners in this authentic underground environment throughout the year. Information panels present the miners' activities, the various machines they used in their work, as well as the equipment required to perform the job.

With helmets equipped with lights on your heads and lanterns in your hands, you will set off towards a small adventure. It is located 60 m underground and offers not only information on how the workplaces were equipped, but also attractive exhibits. A walk through the original mine adit, accompanied by an explanation of interesting facts, legends, and life stories, will take you roughly 60 minutes. The age of museum visitors is not limited in any way. Near the museum area, there is the route of the Po stopách banskej činnosti educational trail, as well as a cycle route leading to the picturesque mining village of Kremnické Bane.

You do not have to end your journey at this museum alone. You can gain information about coins and their production by visiting the specialized Múzeum mincí a medailí. A captivating explanation of its work is also offered by the Mincovňa mint. The museums are located on the square, and from here, only a few steps separate you from visiting the premises of the Mestský hrad castle. Adrenaline in the blood rises on the Via ferrata na Skalke, which is among the most interesting tourist attractions in Slovakia. A wide spectrum of active relaxation in the water is also offered by the Relax centrum Skalka.

We know that this town has its charm, and you can enjoy its atmosphere if you book accommodation near the Banské múzeum Štôlňa Andrej. You have the option to choose exactly the kind of accommodation where you will feel at home. This will be provided, for example, by cottages and chalets in Kremnica. Vodná nádrž Turček

Vodná nádrž Turček

Turček

The Vodná nádrž Turček reservoir lies above the village of Turček, in the Turčianske Teplice district. It is situated at the confluence of two rivers Ružová and Turiec. It was built for the purpose of collecting raw drinking water, which is conveyed to a treatment plant in Turček and subsequently supplies the districts of Žiar nad Hronom, Prievidza, and Handlová. At the same time, the dam protects the upper course of the Turiec from floods, and electricity is also generated here. Small hydroelectric power plants were established at several drops and flows.

The total area of the dam is 54 ha, with water flowing into it from a catchment area of 29.5 km², which features up to 95% water yield and high-quality drinking water. The rock-fill dam with an asphalt-concrete seal has a height of 59 m and a crest length of 287 m. With these dimensions, the reservoir can hold almost 11 million m³ of water, while securing water supply abstraction at a rate of 500 l/s.

Turček ranks among the youngest water reservoirs in Slovakia. The construction project was approved in 1989, the building permit was issued in 1992, and the construction itself began in 1993. Work finished in the spring of 1996, and the reservoir was put into operation on May 15, 1996. Due to the construction, six houses were evacuated, and replacement apartments were built in the village for these citizens during the building of the project. At the same time, it was necessary to reconstruct forest roads and a railway underpass.

Swimming in the reservoir and ice skating on the frozen surface are prohibited. Despite the fact that fish thrive here, fishing is not permitted either. Mainly trout are stocked here, which also serve as an indicator of water quality. An interesting fact is that bears living in the area around the dam come to refresh themselves at the reservoir.

The cycling route around the reservoir is popular. It is an asphalt-gravel trail with a length of about 10.5 km. The cycling route starts in the village of Turček, at the intersection with the Turčianska cyklomagistrála cycling artery. Following this path, you will get past the village and then ascend along a green-marked forest gravel road all the way to a lookout point. This provides a view not only of the dam, but also of the Kremnické vrchy. From the viewpoint, forest paths lead around the entire body of water until you return back to the village. Since you cannot go swimming in Turček, we will redirect you to the Aquapark Turčianske Teplice. And you do not have to limit yourself to bathing; you can also explore history at Kremnický hrad. Or you can head out to discover natural beauties in Harmanecká jaskyňa.

Start searching for accommodation near Vodná nádrž Turček in Kremnica (located about 11 km away), for example. The selection there is the most diverse. If you prefer a countryside setting, the villages of Králiky, Tajov, or Horná Štubňa might interest you.

Via ferrata Skalka

Via ferrata Skalka

Kremnica

Via ferrata on Skalka can be confidently described as one of the most interesting tourist attractions in Slovakia. It is located in the Kremnické vrchy mountains, near Kremnica, in the direction of Banská Bystrica. The biggest attraction of this appealing route is the longest via ferrata bridge in Central Europe. The biggest challenge is the most difficult via ferrata section in Slovakia, the F-úha via ferrata route with a difficulty rating of category F. The most attractive part of the via ferrata is undoubtedly the glass-bottomed suspension footbridge, offering stunning views of the Kremnické vrchy mountains and the Turčianska kotlina basin.

The operator of the wide network of via ferrata routes on Skalka is the town of Kremnica, which began building them in 2017. Unique experiences in the Kremnické vrchy mountains are offered by two integrated via ferrata systems. Via ferrata Komín was the first to be created and has been accessible to the public since 2017. In 2020, the town completed the unique Via ferratový svet (Via Ferrata World) here, which also includes the most difficult via ferrata route in Slovakia.

Via ferrata Komín includes 5 via ferrata routes. You can reach them via a descent via ferrata, at the beginning of which you can enjoy a beautiful view through the eastern window. However, this is only if you can squeeze through a narrow crevice in the terrain. The uniqueness of the descent route is an old maple tree. Its roots form a tangled network that will lead you to the Tibetský most (Tibetan Bridge). The ascent via ferratas begin with Komín, which, as the name suggests, will require you to squeeze between wedged stones on the way up. You will climb using a ladder or through a narrow hole that literally requires caving skills. In the last meters, the Kominárska ferrata branches off, leading through an 8-meter-long black opening.

An attraction for beginners and families with children is the western side of the ridge, offering an interesting Miniferrata with Jánošíkova diera (Jánošík's Hole). The route is only 30 meters long and located at a low height above the ground. It leads over a steep rock and requires crossing a crevice – Jánošíkova diera. This is a cave in the rock, 9 meters long, with the possibility of a horizontal entry along a safety cable. This via ferrata section is suitable for practicing movement on via ferratas and also offers the smallest adventurers a chance to try out a via ferrata route.

Via ferratový svet consists of 6 via ferrata routes interconnected by technical elements such as bird's nests, a pendulum, a balance beam, or rope bridges. The training via ferrata is designed for practicing the conquering of via ferrata routes and handling via ferrata equipment. Here, you can test your skills before heading out on the Traverz via ferrata, which leads through the rock massif between the ski slopes. It includes various adventure elements, including a bird's nest, bridges, and a ladder. The via ferrata route crosses with the Hrebeňová via ferrata, leading along a prominent mountain ridge.

A more demanding route is the Via Commo via ferrata, leading along a wooden bridge in a rock notch, over the summit rock wall, and up to the rock tower. And here, the real adventure begins – a rope bridge 32 meters long, positioned an incredible 35 meters above the terrain. The arduous journey across the abyss ends with an observation footbridge with a glass floor. Here, truly magnificent views of Skalka, Krížna, and the entire Turiec region will open up to you. The most difficult route of the entire system is the F-úha via ferrata, with a length of 45 meters and an 11-meter overhang. This section is extremely demanding and is recommended only to truly experienced climbers. It is a climbing wall in the truest sense of the word, secured with a via ferrata cable. As preparation for conquering it, you can use the Malá výzva E-jha via ferrata, with a length of 16 meters and a 3-meter overhang.

If you love adrenaline and enjoy pushing your limits, be sure not to miss this via ferrata route when visiting Kremnica, one you will not forget for the rest of your life. You can combine your adventure in nature with a visit to the Kremnická mincovňa (Kremnica Mint) or the unique Múzeum mincí a medailí (Museum of Coins and Medals). You can experience a visit to the underground mine in the Banské múzeum Štôlňa Andrej (Mining Museum Andrej Adit). There is certainly no shortage of unique experiences in Kremnica. The same applies to the variety of accommodation offers near the Via ferrata on Skalka. Accommodation in Kremnica and the surrounding areas represents a whole spectrum of popular cabins and cottages, pleasant guest houses, and attractive apartments. Plan a holiday you will never forget.

In the wellness area, there are two relaxation pools. Červený bazén or bath, which is actually a quiet pool with thermal water located directly over a spring (a so-called piscina). Thanks to the high mineralization of the water, it is particularly suitable for rehabilitation, as well as for the prevention or treatment of various diseases. On the site where a historical bath once stood, Ľudový kúpeľ is located today. This is a rehabilitation pool designed for swimming as well as exercise or bathing. It also contains a high amount of minerals, thereby contributing, among other things, to maintaining or improving overall fitness. In the wellness area, you will also find a herbal steam bath, a choice of several types of massages, or rasul, which is actually five treatments in one, consisting of a dry sauna, mud wrap, peeling, steam sauna, and inhalations.

And for those who fancy a bit of culture, Turčianske Teplice will satisfy them in this regard as well. There are many historical monuments here, such as the Modrý kúpeľ building, which is a kind of landmark of the town. It was built as early as the 17th century and today serves to operate medical stays for children. Also worth a visit is Kaplnka Jána Nepomuckého, which is also in the town center, or a Baroque manor house and a beautiful Gothic Kostol sv. Michala church located in the town districts. The spa park is also a cultural monument, offering relaxation and rest in the shade of various exotic trees.

Regarding accommodation in Turčianske Teplice, as befits a proper spa town, you can stay primarily in spa houses, hotels connected with spa services. However, there is also a choice of accommodation in guesthouses or hotels, many of which are housed in historic buildings.

So, if you are choosing a holiday where you primarily want to rest, relax, bathe in healing thermal baths, and last but not least, have fun and unwind on the waterslides, Turčianske Teplice is the right choice. Šášovský hrad

Šášovský hrad

Žiar nad Hronom

Hrad Šášov castle stands atop a massive rock formation on the left bank of the river, in the outer area of the Štiavnické vrchy mountains, directly above the valley of the Hron river. You will find it in the district of Žiar nad Hronom – Šášovské Podhradie. Many legends revolve around its origins. One of them tells of the unprecedented heroism of the court jester Ladislav. The lord of Zvolenský hrad castle got lost deep in the forest during a hunting trip. Suddenly, a enraged she-bear appeared before him and bit him in the back. Seeing this, the jester did not hesitate, used his agility, and struck the bear in the head with an axe. Touched by his bravery, the nobleman promised out of gratitude to build him a castle on that very spot. Soon, a fortress bearing the name of his savior's profession stood on Orlia skala rock.

The castle is first mentioned in a document from 1253. It was most likely built by the brothers Vincent and Peter Vanch. Around 1306, Matúš Čák Trenčiansky seized it, and after his death, it passed through the hands of many different owners. Among the most famous were King Matej Korvín, the Archbishop of Eger Urban Dóczy, and the Hungarian prefect Gašpar Lippay.

A major turning point came in 1677, when it was captured and plundered during the Thököly Uprising. The subsequent destruction was completed in 1708 by imperial troops. From that time on, it lost its defensive function, remained abandoned, and began to fall into ruin. Gunfire during World War II in 1945 also caused difficult times when part of a retreating German army unit set up position in the castle tower.

Šášovský hrad castle was built on the Pohronská hradná cesta (Pohronie Castle Route) and was meant to serve as a defensive and watch fortress. Originally, it consisted of a Gothic palace, residential and farm buildings, a chapel, a water cistern, defensive towers, and, by all accounts, had two outer baileys. Two fortified courtyards protected the Gothic-Renaissance upper castle, and a round bastion guarded the entrance to the palace.

To this day, perimeter walls several meters high have been preserved. The best-preserved parts are the remains of the upper castle, the Gothic palace, and the triangular tower. In 2015, the remains of a bread oven of unusual dimensions were found here, indicating the presence of a castle bakery. Since 2003, conservation and restoration work has been underway to preserve the remains for future generations.

A green-marked hiking trail leads directly from the village to the ruins. The ascent takes about 20 minutes, and the gently sloping terrain can easily be handled by children. From the castle rock, you will enjoy a beautiful view of the Hron river and the entire valley of Šášovské Podhradie.

If you have planned your hike to the ruins on a hot summer day, head straight from your walk to the refreshing pools of Plážové kúpalisko Žiar nad Hronom. Another interesting place worth visiting is Krajská hvezdáreň a planetárium Maximiliána Hella, where you have a unique opportunity to see our galaxy up close.

An adrenaline adventure in the form of riding Monster scooters awaits you in the nearby village of Lehôtka pod Brehmi. If you wish to continue exploring this beautiful region, book accommodation in the vicinity of Šášovský hrad castle. Accommodation in Žiar nad Hronom includes charming cottages and cabins as well as comfortably furnished guesthouses. It is entirely up to you what appeals to your heart most. We wish you a pleasant and peaceful stay.

Jazdecký areál Budička

Tŕnie

The Jazdecký areál Budička equestrian area is located in the small village of Tŕnie, just 14 km from Zvolen. You can find it in the tiny settlement of Budička, where time passes more slowly and one can slow down from the rushed pace of life. If you like horses, set off for adventure and enjoy a relaxing day in nature.

The riding school offers its visitors various forms of contact with horses and ponies. The smallest children can enjoy a pony ride. A "riding preparation course" is designed for children aged 3 to 7. Children learn to sit independently on a horse, practice their balance, and can also groom and feed the horse.

Systematic riding training focuses on gradually introducing the basics of riding and the principles of horse control. It is intended for children from 7 years of age. Children gradually learn to lead the horse in walk, trot, and canter, as well as overcome obstacles. Advanced riders can sign up for specialized riding training focused on dressage or show jumping.

Additional services include hippotherapy, therapeutic exercise with the help of horses. Certified instructors work not only with children, but also with adults. This therapeutic treatment brings great results for children with autism, hyperactivity, attention and behavioral disorders, as well as children and adults with scoliosis. The greatest benefit of this therapy is contact with a living animal, its warmth, emotions, and movement.

In the yard, you will find a children's playground where your little ones will have a lot of fun. And even better, there is also a fireplace for roasting. Children love cookouts, so do not forget to pack tasty bacon and sausages for your trip. Always report your visit to the ranch in advance by phone. The equestrian area is open every day with the exception of Sunday.

In addition to horse riding, the riding arena also provides horse boarding and organizes daily riding camps during the summer months. The grounds are perfect for trips for kindergarten and elementary school pupils.

If you still feel like exploring, head out on a trip to Turová, where Turovský vodopád is located. Come and see a unique natural spectacle where water falls from a height of 15 meters. From here, it is just a stone's throw to Kováčová and Zvolen. It is entirely up to you which direction you take.
