It is a paraffinic type of oil with a low oil content and a smaller amount of hydrocarbons with asphaltic-resinous substances. The spring spans a small area of 0.171 ha.

It is a natural surface oil seep with occasional methane vapors. The oil accumulates in a small pool with a diameter of 1.5–2 meters. Despite being high-quality crude oil, surrounding test drillings, which began back in the 19th century, did not reveal sufficient quantities to make industrial extraction commercially viable. In total, 5 drillings were conducted, the first in 1900 and the last between 1929 and 1933. From the drillings carried out during those times, only 15–16 wagonloads were extracted in total.

In difficult times, during World War II, residents of the village of Korňa used oil from this seep as fuel for lighting, heating, and lubricating vehicles. It was even used to treat skin diseases in cattle. In 1984, Korňanský ropný prameň was declared a natural monument. Visitors have the opportunity to admire many physically displayed collection items, which are appropriately complemented by modern elements, touchscreens with a rich content of documentary materials, photographs, or postcards in the form of an interactive table and two infokiosks dedicated to prominent personalities. Among the most precious artifacts of the exhibition is undoubtedly a representative selection of 250 historical coins from the so-called Horelický poklad and rare judaica reflecting the life and religion of the once numerous Jewish community in Čadca. In the final part of the exhibition, visitors can sit down and watch short documentary videos and photographs capturing the socialist era and the existence of large manufacturing plants such as Tatra or Okrasa.

In addition to the permanent exhibition, Múzeum Čadca also offers changing exhibitions focused primarily on child visitors. Companion activities in the form of creative workshops are prepared for each exhibition.
