The exhibition is a selection from a comprehensive body of the artist's works, which primarily come from his early periods and document individual stages of the development of his artistic style.

The third interesting exhibition of the picturesque manor house is Historická knižnica Strážky, which is part of the national cultural heritage. Its origins date back to the last quarter of the 16th century. The impressive collection contains an incredible 8,500 volumes, magazines, and maps. The last exhibition of the Slovenská národná galéria can be viewed by visitors in the premises of kaštieľ Strážky. Under the title Sochárstvo na Slovensku v 20. storočí, works of important Slovak sculptors from the second half of the 20th century are presented here in the impressive setting of the English park. A magnificent artistic object is undoubtedly the building of kaštieľ Strážky itself. It was built on the foundations of a Gothic castle. A typical square floor plan with an inner courtyard was created by adding a fourth wing after a fire at the beginning of the 18th century. Kaštieľ Strážky, together with the kostol sv. Relatively few preserved castles have survived in our country today. If you do not enjoy wandering among unstable ruined walls and imagining what the castle once looked like, visit the town of Kežmarok. The town castle, or chateau, has stood here for centuries in an almost unchanged form. You have the opportunity to peek into the lives of nobles and lords of the castle, the wealthiest people of that time.

Today, the castle gives the impression of a romantic chateau. This was not always the case. The castle was originally Gothic and was built sometime at the turn of the 14th and 15th centuries. It did not spring up on a greenfield site. In its place stood Kostol sv. Alžbety church from 1251. A residential wing was later added to the church, turning it into a monastery.

The first written mention of the castle dates back to 1447. A later owner, Imrich Zápoľský, ordered the demolition of both the church and the monastery. This took place in 1486. The construction material from the monastery was used in building the western wing of the castle. Many Slovak castles were struck by fire. Fires rendered many of them uninhabitable, and due to a lack of funds, they began to fall into ruin. A similar disaster did not spare Kežmarský hrad either. And it happened several times. However, it was luckier. One of the fires engulfed it as early as 1575. The reconstruction was in the Renaissance style, and shortly thereafter, the castle fell into the hands of one of the most influential families, the Thökölys.

Thanks to various renovations, Kežmarský hrad began to transform from a cold castle into a pleasant and romantic chateau. The conversion into a chateau reached its final version in 1657, when artists from Italy decorated its entire interior. Even the castle stables had mangers made of marble. A year later, a chapel located in a former defensive bastion was built, or rather rebuilt.

The glorious period of the castle ended in 1720, when it was purchased by the town of Kežmarok. It was used for economic purposes and consequently began to fall into disrepair. Part of the castle fortification was destroyed as well. In 1931, the town established a small town museum in the tower. Kežmarský zámok gained sad notoriety during World War II, when Germans were stationed there and executed several partisans. Extensive reconstruction and preparations for opening it to the public began in 1960.

The castle exhibitions are remarkably varied. Kežmarok was always a town of craftsmen, housing up to 36 medieval guilds. You can find their coats of arms and traditional tools right inside the castle. Exhibitions familiar from other castles include a wide range of weapons or a tour of the castle chapel. Highlights include the dungeon, an exhibition of a medieval pharmacy, or historical vehicles. Everyone will enjoy the castle tour.

After the Hussite invasion in 1433, when the town partially burned down, the center moved to another part where a new square was created. Juraj of Spišská Sobota decided to build a new town hall in 1461. Following a major fire in the first half of the 16th century, it was considerably damaged and needed to be reconstructed. Master Kuntz of Kežmarok rebuilt it from the Gothic style into a Renaissance appearance between 1541 and 1555, while preserving its original character. Later, a tower was added to the town hall building. The town hall acquired its current appearance and a second floor only after a fire that was (allegedly) intentionally set by two town residents in 1922.

An interesting fact is that beneath the building lies an old cellar from which water springs used to gush in the past. Legend has it that an underground escape tunnel leads from the town hall starting here. The town hall building is part of the town monument reserve in Kežmarok. On December 4, 1981, it was entered into the List of Cultural Monuments of Slovakia. Currently, the town hall serves as the seat of the town office.

Hrad Holumnica is shrouded in a veil of mystery. It is assumed that it was built at the turn of the 15th and 16th centuries. During its existence, it was modified several times. Originally, the castle served as a three-story residential building constructed in the Gothic-Renaissance style. If you were expecting a tower or its remnants at this castle, you will not find one. Interestingly, walls with slit loopholes were discovered here.

Although the building was mostly inhabited by one of the families from a prominent noble lineage in this region, its walls were not occupied for very long. Around the 17th century, the castle became a building used as a residential seat for a member of the family. Later, it became merely a building used to store various materials. Unfortunately, more precise records do not exist.

A small alley leading over a wooden footbridge across the Holumnický stream will bring you to your destination. It will take you just 10 minutes on foot. Chrám svätého Jakuba in Levoča is among the most important sacral buildings in Slovakia. In 2015, Pope Francis elevated it to a basilica minor. Come and see the unique main altar of St. James, which, with its height of 18.6 meters, is the highest altar of its kind in the world. It is made of linden wood and was created under the hands of the woodcarver Master Paul of Levoča.

The parish church is dedicated to St. James, apostle and protector of warriors, pilgrims, and workers. His feast day is celebrated on July 25. The church has been serving believers for daily services for over 700 years. The church and its interior furnishings have been a national cultural monument since 1965. In 2009, the Basilica of St. James was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

The church was built in the first half of the 14th century as a three-aisled building. Porches were built onto it on the northern and southern sides, and around 1515, the so-called Henckel Library was built above the northern porch. In 1859, at the instigation of Emperor Franz Joseph I, the neo-Gothic tower was completed.

In addition to the main altar, the church contains another 13 side altars. Another gem in the church is the organ, which was created in the years 1624 – 1630 at the expense of the wealthy Levoča burgher Friedrich Pobst by the Krakow organ builder Hans Hummel. The Renaissance pulpit, created by the local joiner master Krištof Kollmitz, originally from Olomouc in the Czech Republic, is also ranked among the remarkable monuments.

The dominant features of the church interior are extensive wall paintings representing the cycle of the seven works of mercy and the seven deadly sins. In addition to the main altar, the works of Ján Szilassy are also declared a national cultural monument. This was caused by frequent changes in ownership until it came back under the administration of the Kingdom of Hungary.

It was not until 1825 that it underwent reconstruction thanks to the efforts of Baron von Jony. He had a manor house, a new spa house, and a mirror bath built, and the spa began to come alive again. Subsequently, his son Daniel took care of it, and in 1865 it became the property of the Kežmarok Lyceum until it was purchased in 1882 by Andrzej Zamoyski, a Polish count. In 1923, he had a natural thermal swimming pool built here, which was the largest in Slovakia at the time. From then on, the spa began transforming into one of the most modern in our territory. The Biely dom building was constructed, becoming one of the spa's main landmarks.

The spa even received a highly respected and distinguished visit when the King of Spain and the Prince of Bourbon visited before World War II. This was likely due to the fact that after Zamoyski's death, the spa was inherited by his son Jan and his wife Isabel de Bourbon. Isabel was the niece of the King of Spain. Later, World War II thwarted plans for further expansion of the spa. It was later nationalized, passing under the administration of the ROH (Revolutionary Trade Union Movement) in 1952 and state control in 1957.

Another curious fact was the attempt to transform the ordinary dripstone cave into an ice cave. The lower sections of the cave were supposed to be artificially iced over, but this damaged the decorations, so the plan was abandoned.

Let's move to the present. Inside the cave, 1,370 meters of underground beauty, a 125-meter vertical rise, and exactly 860 steps await you. Dress warmly before visiting the cave; the temperature inside hovers between 5 and 6 degrees Celsius, and you will be underground for over an hour. The cave is open year-round, with the exception of a few weeks in the winter months. It is also closed every Monday. He handed it over to an employee of the Národné múzeum v Prahe, unaware of the importance and significance of his discovery. Gánovské travertíny subsequently became an extraordinarily important site of fossil fauna and flora as well.
