Múzeum liptovskej dediny - Pribylina
Múzeum liptovskej dediny v Pribyline, which is part of Liptovské múzeum v Ružomberku, has been attracting its visitors since 1991. That is when it opened its doors to the public for the first time, although its construction began much earlier, in 1972. The museum is set in the picturesque nature of Liptov with views of Kriváň and the Western Tatras.
The village faithfully depicts the life of our grandmothers from the turn of the 20th century. The arrangement of dwellings found right here was once characteristic of villages in Liptov with the privileges and rights of small towns. The vast majority of the houses come from the area that was flooded by the Liptovská Mara water reservoir. These are original copies featuring authentic elements and sensitively presented details.
Within the exhibition, visitors are introduced to the life of various social classes of that era. School-age children in particular will enjoy taking a peek into the original, simple village school. However, the landmarks of the open-air museum include the Gothic-Renaissance manor house from Parížovce and the Early Gothic Church of Our Lady from Liptovská Mara.
The open-air museum strives to bring ancient traditions and ways of life closer to modern people through various events. Folklore performances, reconstructions of folk customs and traditions, and themed days are organized here regularly. Shepherds', firefighters', or beekeepers' Sundays, bobbin lace days, harvest thanksgiving, or demonstrations of traditional Liptov cuisine are particularly popular.
During the summer season, riding the Považská lesná železnička railway is a very popular attraction. It consists of preserved tracks from the original route, which was mainly used to transport harvested timber. The exhibition's collection hides gems such as period passenger and freight cars, as well as functional steam and motor locomotives. In the summer season, it is the steam locomotive that pulls the carriage with visitors, who enjoy beautiful views in addition to a fantastic experience, not only of the surrounding nature, but also of the original steel bridge, which comes from the railway's original route.
The open-air museum had long toyed with the idea of making Tatra nature accessible to people who, for various reasons, cannot visit it in person. The result is a new exhibition and relaxation zone. It is a relaxing space friendly to everyone, able-bodied children as well as those with special needs, healthy adults as well as those with various physical or mental disabilities. It is a barrier-free space where navigation is handled through rope handrails, curbs, or information boards in Braille. A new mobile application with an option to switch to sign language and special 3D images of animal species and the Tatra relief are also new features. You can sit in a raptor's nest, curl up in a bear's den, or step onto an observation point with a view of the Western Tatras.
