The original knight's Hrad Skýcov ranks rather among manor houses with its current architecture. It is situated in the village of Skýcov located in the Zlaté Moravce district. The fortified historical building in the Romanesque style with corner towers dates back to the late 17th century. However, the history of this mysterious place began to be written a full 200 years earlier. A Gothic stone small castle, around which the floor plan of today's building developed, probably stood here as early as the 15th century. The interior of the cultural monument is currently not accessible to the public, but the building with an atmosphere of ancient history creates a beautiful setting for a walk with the opportunity to admire the neo-Romanesque architecture.

The sprawling three-story double-tract manor house is the dominant feature of the village center. Originally a Renaissance building with an "L"-shaped floor plan, it was rebuilt into a romantic neo-Romanesque chateau in the 19th century. Its center consisted of a ceremonial hall intended for magnificent celebrations and feasts. Here, the nobility entertained themselves and feasted. The backdrop was formed by magnificent vaults stretching all the way to the top of the tower. Part of the fortified core is a number of towers, dominated by a round stone corner tower. In its time, it received a characteristic name, Nebojsa. The property was protected by a moat, across which a drawbridge led.

The manor house was burned down after World War II, and its restoration did not take place until the 1990s. In addition to the dominant corner tower, an attraction for tourists is also the picturesque decoration of facades with rustication and buttresses with a touch of romance. Will you also let yourself be invited for a romantic walk with the backdrop of a beautiful historical building? The surroundings of the manor house are easily accessible with the option of parking just a few meters from the property.

You can extend your trip into history by visiting the ruins of Hrušov castle or taking a walk to the guard Živánska veža. You can then treat yourself to a bird's-eye view of the adjacent nature by climbing the Rozhľadňa na Drieňovej observation tower, and you will surely visit the Zubria zvernica Topoľčianky bison enclosure with children. Search for accommodation in the vicinity of Hrad Skýcov on our portal right now and start planning your adventurous stay. Whether you decide on accommodation in Skýcov or find accommodation in Zlaté Moravce, you will have local points of interest and attractions at your fingertips.

The stone sea is formed by massive dark andesites and was probably created more than 14 million years ago, in the Quaternary period. During stormy volcanic activity, a massive lava flow with distinct rock forms was created. Since the air temperature at that time dropped even below minus 60 degrees, the lava flow solidified quickly, which resulted in its later disintegration into irregular polygonal blocks. Although it may not seem like it, individual stones weigh well over half a ton. A special feature of this natural monument is the rich occurrence of dispersed quartz particles that mixed into the lava flow while still "hot" and today glitter like diamonds against the dark forest background. If you visit the area during a beautiful sunny day, you will feel like you are by a real sea, because the shimmering quartz will resemble the look of a shimmering water surface in the sun.

You can easily get to this world-significance natural monument from the village of Malá Lehota or along the popular Náučný chodník Vojšín educational trail. It has its beginning in the Stará Huta settlement, which is a part of Nová Baňa. At its end, the stone sea awaits you, which is certainly worth the walk along the educational trail. It is hidden behind coniferous trees, near a small bus stop. Andezitové more, with an area of 30 x 100 m, ranks among the smaller stone seas located in Slovakia, yet despite this, its size will astound many of you.

Find accommodation near Andezitové kamenné pole and set out into the diverse nature at the crossroads of three regions, Banskobystrický, Trenčiansky, and Nitriansky. Nice views and a great stay combined with a visit to this natural unique feature are offered by a hotel in the Tribeč mountain range, cottages and chalets in the villages of Ponitrie, or any other suitable accommodation in Malá Lehota.

The Benediktínsky kláštor monastery represents a magnificent complex of fortified sacral buildings. It is situated in the village of Hronský Beňadik, in the Žarnovica district. The monastery site extends in the valley of the Hron river, on the southern foothills of Pohronský Inovec. Due to its uniqueness, the monastery has been declared a national cultural monument and one of the seven wonders of the Banskobystrický region. Visitors are awed not only by its monumentality, but also by the combination of sacral and defensive structures and the blending of various architectural styles. The premises of the historical building offer the opportunity to visit a rare basilica, a chapel, a reconstructed part of the granary with a historical exhibition, and the monastery tea room.

The Benediktínske opátstvo abbey was solemnly consecrated as early as 1075. The construction of today's building complex was carried out in the mid-14th century. A Gothic church with a triple sanctuary and the monastic part were built. Decades later, a three-aisled nave, two towers, and a Late Gothic entrance portal were added. At that time, the monastery was complemented by the entire southern wing. The year 1483 was significant when the monastery received a rare relic of the blood of Christ from King Matej I. It is said to be a piece of the cloth with which Veronica wiped Jesus' face during the Way of the Cross. In 1508, the so-called abbatial wing was added to the complex, and a monastic garden was built in the middle of the monastery. In subsequent years, the Kaplnka sv. Krvi chapel was completed.

The early 16th century was closely intertwined with Ottoman invasions. Subsequent architectural modifications of the monastery therefore meant its gradual fortification. Ultimately, both the monastery and the church were rebuilt into a Renaissance fortress. Massive walls and cannon bastions suddenly became part of the complex. In the following years, the monastery building was part of a system of fortresses providing protection to central Slovakia. The Turkish raids significantly damaged the rare architecture. As part of the reconstruction, a large granary was built on the site of the collapsed wing.

Currently, the central part of the building system is formed by the so-called paradise courtyard. It is surrounded by monastic buildings and the temple church, which was elevated to the minor basilica of Bazilika minor sv. Benedikta by Pope František in 2019. It represents a magnificent three-aisled structure with a Gothic entrance portal. The facade with a pair of towers dominates the church. On its southern side, the original Late Gothic Kaplnka sv. Krvi chapel from 1489 is still located today. The furnishings of the church are relatively modest today. Three sculptures of the main altar, the relic of the blood of Christ, a Baroque baptismal font, and the crypt of the Koháry family have been preserved from the original equipment. A very rare monument is the organ from 1714.

Inside the monastic buildings, the huge interior of the granary is accessible to visitors. Just one floor of the four-story space has an amazing area of 800 m2. On the ground floor, an exhibition introducing the history of the St. Benedict abbey to the public is situated. A unique space for relaxation and refreshment is the rare monastery tea room. Its tasteful premises offer not only a pleasant sit-down over a cup of herbal tea, but also the opportunity to soak up the atmosphere of the ancient monastery. You can take a tour of the complex individually or with a guide for a symbolic fee.

You can make your journey into the history of this architectural gem of Pohronie more pleasant by a trip to the nearby Starohutský vodopád waterfall or by visiting the interesting interactive information center Energoland located in Kalná nad Hronom. We also recommend relaxation by the nearby Tajch water reservoir and, for horse lovers, a visit to the National Stud Farm in Topoľčianky. And when you find that one day in this region is simply not enough, look for accommodation in the vicinity of the Benediktínske kláštor monastery on our portal. Accommodation in Hronský Beňadik and surrounding areas will certainly not disappoint you with its offer. Alternatively, you can also choose nearby accommodation in Žarnovica. Even in this case, you will not be far from local attractions.

A European unique, Arborétum Mlyňany SAV, is situated between the villages of Vieska nad Žitavou and Tesárske Mlyňany in the district of Zlaté Moravce. The protected area of the botanical garden stands out with its rich collection of trees and shrubs. Its collections, which contain more than 2,300 species of woody plants from the Mediterranean, America, Africa, and Asia, place it in the position of the most significant dendrological facility in Slovakia. The unique green area, dominated by a picturesque manor house, is open to the public year-round.

The arboretum was founded in 1892 by the Hungarian nobleman Štefan Ambrózy-Migazzi. His main goal was to concentrate as many exotic trees and shrubs as possible in the botanical garden and to demonstrate their viability in our climatic conditions. In an oak-hornbeam grove, he gradually planted woody species imported from Germany, France, or England. The beginnings of the planting were linked to the construction of a Neoclassical manor house with a tower, which was completed in 1894. By 1925, it was possible to plant more than 300 species of evergreen plants in the arboretum. After World War II, the area came under state administration and was later taken over by the Slovak Academy of Sciences, which manages it to this day.

The arboretum currently covers an area of 67 ha, and its plant collection is divided according to a geographical principle into 5 parts with constructed educational trails. The central part consists of the oldest Ambrózyho park with a beautiful manor house and a predominance of monumental oak trees and original hornbeam stands. In the arboretum, you can also walk among the trees and shrubs of Asia, North America, Korea, and of course, there is also an area dedicated to Slovak dendroflora. The presentation of woody species in each part of the arboretum is combined with the typical architecture of the respective regions, complemented by small ponds and lakes.

In addition to being an important scientific workplace dedicated to research, the arboretum opens its park with a unique collection of trees and shrubs to the general public. You can freely stroll through the arboretum, with diverse species of trees, shrubs, and flowers from various corners of the world providing a backdrop. The park's information system will introduce you to the dendroflora of individual areas and draw your attention to points of interest. Among the most beautiful sectors is undoubtedly the East Asian section. The most visited period is related to the blooming of rhododendrons, which takes place at the end of April and the beginning of May. The green park also includes an ornamental plant nursery, from which you will certainly take home a rare piece for your garden.

Allow us to invite you for a walk through the charming world of global flora. You can combine a trip to this unique arboretum of European significance with recreation at the Slepčany water reservoir or with an excursion to Energoland Mochovce, where they will guide you through the entire evolution of energy from the Big Bang to the near future. On the forested Hrádok hill, which rises above the village of Tekovská Breznica in the Žarnovica district, you will find the ruins of Breznický hrad castle. From the 13th century, it served a guard function on the western edge of Štiavnické vrchy. Set out along the hiking trail directly from the village for approximately 1.5 km and enjoy the far-reaching views that Hrad Breznica has to offer.

The castle remembers a lot in its history. It experienced several pillages and was conquered by almost all lords who set their minds to it, including Matúš Čák Trenčiansky and Matej Korvín. After being conquered by Turkish forces, the castle was occupied by robber knights and gradually fell into ruin starting in the 18th century. However, the view that greets you after climbing to the ruins is well worth it. You can see all the way to the monastery in Hronský Beňadik or the town of Nová Baňa. Via ferrata Zvonička in Nová Baňa represents a modern climbing area that offers visitors a unique combination of adrenaline sports and breathtaking panoramic views of the Štiavnické vrchy mountains and the Hron river valley.

The site is located on the southern slopes of Pohronský Inovec, in the town of Nová Baňa, in the Žarnovica district, within the Banskobystrický kraj region. The ferrata consists of several routes of varying difficulty levels, marked according to the international classification from B (moderately difficult) to D (very difficult), satisfying both beginners and experienced climbers. The main magnets of the area are three routes: Sokolia veža, Vretenica, and Pyramída, each offering specific technical features such as rope bridges, vertical walls, and narrow rock crevices. The climb is secured with steel cables, footrests, and anchors, which guarantee safety when using a prescribed ferrata set. After reaching the top sections, visitors will discover unique views of the town and the surrounding volcanic mountains, which are most beautiful during sunset. The complex is part of a broader recreational area with an educational trail, making it possible to combine a climbing effort with a peaceful walk in nature. Thanks to the southern orientation of the rocks, the climbing season here is relatively long, and the rocks remain dry and warm even during sunny autumn days.

In the area, you will find a system of three main secured routes with rope bridges, as well as information boards with route sketches and safe climbing rules. Maintained access paths, benches for resting under the rocks, and a nearby historical bell tower building with an observation deck are available. The location is situated on top of the Háj hill in the cadastral area of the town of Nová Baňa, in the Žarnovica district. The lookout tower was solemnly opened in 2017 and reaches a height of approximately 21 meters, built on the site of a former andesite quarry. The structure features three observation levels, and its design, combining natural stone at the bottom with a wooden frame on the upper floors, is inspired by mining headframes. From the highest level, a 360-degree view opens up to the Novobanská kotlina basin, the ridges of Štiavnické vrchy, Vtáčnik, and, under good visibility conditions, even the distant peaks of Nízke Tatry. A marked educational trail leads directly from the town to the lookout tower, passing through picturesque meadows and forested stretches, with the route lined with information boards about the region's geology and history. The entire area is accessible year-round and, thanks to its position above the town, is a popular spot for watching sunsets as well as the night sky.
