Splav Hornádu

Splav Hornádu

Košice

If you are also among the lovers of natural beauty, enjoy the thrill of adrenaline, and are not afraid of water, we have a wonderful tip for a pleasantly spent time in Eastern Slovakia in the form of the Splav Hornádu rafting and canoeing trip.

Splav Hornádu. Its longer route can start in Kysak near the football pitch. You will complete it under the guidance of an experienced instructor who will successfully and safely guide you to the finish line located at the Košická lodenice boathouse. Set aside at least four hours in your schedule for this pleasant experience. After phone reservation and payment transfer, the guides will welcome you. They will assign your boats, equipment, and give you brief instructions on controlling the vessels and navigation basics. The cruise itself lasts approximately 3 hours, depending on your skills and the number of stops you make.

Shortly after the start, you will sail in boats or rafts to the Trebejovská perej rapid. It is not technically demanding to pass through, but you will certainly enjoy riding its waves. There is a small hydroelectric power plant in Kostoľany nad Hornádom, and you will need to carry your vessel over for approximately 100 meters because of it. This is also an opportunity for a short break and refreshments. Enjoying the trip along the river beneath the canopy of poplars is amazing. Watching fish and waterfowl will appeal to nature lovers. The cool river waves will refresh you even on the hottest summer days. Right before the end of the trip, the Ťahanovská vlna wave will also delight you. It will challenge you a bit more, but there is no need to worry.

The trip is of medium difficulty and can easily be handled by children aged 8 and up. We recommend taking a swimsuit and a T-shirt on the boat. In case of cooler weather, suitable paddling clothing or a waterproof jacket is advised. On sunny days, do not forget to pack sunscreen. It is also important to wear suitable water footwear (sneakers, sturdy sandals) to protect your feet from injury on sharp rocks or glass.

After reaching the Košická lodenica boathouse, the event organizers will, if you wish, transport you back to Kysak by car. This is especially convenient if you left your car or other vehicle there. Naturally, the organizers offer various types of routes as well as canoeing courses or adventurous rafting on the Hornád. However, keep in mind that it is a good idea to book accommodation near the Splav Hornádu.

If you stay dry and feel like exploring the surroundings, be sure to plan trips to nearby attractions. It is great to see all the fascinating plants at the Botanická záhrada Univerzity P. J. Šafárika botanical garden. History is worth delving into at the Východoslovenské múzeum museum. After such a walk, all you need to do is head straight to the city center and enjoy the urban atmosphere. You might even catch the sound of the Zvonkohra Košice carillon.

The region is large enough to have plenty to offer its visitors. So that you do not have to move around constantly, we recommend booking a room on the accommodation Košice – Sever page. Affordable options for you might include accommodation in apartmány Košice – Sever or a room in penzión Košice – Sever. We leave the choice up to you, but we are happy to help.

Know that all of it will come in handy. If you lack any item, there are many places in the area to rent equipment.

Lesná sauna Iliašovce

Lesná sauna Iliašovce

Iliašovce

Do you long to treat your body to a pleasant rest in the warmth? Or just to switch off from everyday worries for a moment? Then head to the Sans Souci site in the picturesque village of Iliašovce, located in eastern Slovakia in the Košický kraj region. Tucked away in its forest, hidden from the eyes of passers-by, is a unique wooden sauna that you can use specifically for relaxation and recreation.

You can enjoy the positive and detoxifying effects on the human body if you visit this unique natural sauna. A private individual stood behind its creation. Their main goal was an escape from the everyday world into a natural environment with the intention of doing something good for their body as well. Looking into our history, we can discover that the origin of saunaville dates back to 4000 BC. Even back then, baths such as the Turkish or Arabian hammam, Roman public baths, or the Korean sauna were known. We only learn about the Finnish sauna in 1112, when it served to heat dwellings in Finland.

Do you also feel like coming and experiencing sauna bathing firsthand? Book your slot for this wooden Finnish sauna online. Here, you will light up the wood-burning stove and take a seat on your chosen wooden bench. For a full 15 minutes, enjoy the indescribable view of the soothing nature, where you might even catch a glimpse of wild game. After this time, cold air will stroke your heated body, and with determination, you will step down to a wooden tub filled with cold water. You can freely repeat this process 2 to 3 times. However, after each cycle, do not forget to take a moment to pause and "tune into yourself" in the relaxation room. You might be so tired that you even take a short nap. Make sure to bring your own towels, sheets, or slippers with you, as these are not provided at the sauna. If you plan to use the sauna in the evening hours, it is also advisable to pack flashlights or your own light source.

You too can come and enjoy the beneficial effects that act on the entire human organism. It will relieve your tension, strengthen blood circulation, rejuvenate your skin, and speed up your metabolism. Thanks to sweating, you will get rid of undesirable substances from your body. A stay in the sauna is recommended for visitors who do not suffer from any health complications. To enjoy sauna bathing to the fullest, we recommend booking accommodation near Lesná sauna Iliašovce.

In the village of Iliašovce, you can walk around and draw new spiritual energy at the place known as Sans Souci, where a chapel is built. You can also elevate your artistic spirit by visiting the Spišské múzeum – Výstavná sieň. If you are interested in information from the field of mining, it is worth looking into the exhibition História baníctva na Spiši. Perhaps during a mass at Bazilika sv. Jakuba in Levoča, you will listen to the beauty of organ music and afterwards view the famous altar by Master Paul. Active visitors can get their bodies moving in the pools of Krytá plaváreň Spišská Nová Ves.

Choosing from the available options is relatively easy. In the same way, you can choose from the range of accommodations in Iliašovce. Our catalog includes beautiful apartments in Iliašovce, but you might also appreciate the option of renting a room in a guesthouse. We will gladly help you find the best accommodation for any type of stay in this region.

Escape room Záhada Bermudského trojuholníka

Smižany

The interactive escape game Záhada Bermudského trojuholníka in Spišská Nová Ves will transport you into a world of maritime mysteries and unexplained phenomena, where your goal is to escape before you become the next victim of the legendary anomaly.

The attraction is located in the town of Spišská Nová Ves, in the district of Spišská Nová Ves, on Zimná ulica street (at the Paniq Room facility). The game's storyline is inspired by real legends about the disappearance of ships and aircraft, placing your group in an enclosed space filled with strange instruments and navigational maps. Players have exactly 60 minutes to uncover the secret of the triangle and open the door to freedom by searching for hidden clues, solving numerical codes, and working out logical connections. The room is designed to evoke a sense of suspense and mystery, utilizing various mechanical and visual effects. Unlike classic computer games, the emphasis here is placed on real hands-on interaction with objects and team communication, without which successfully completing the mission is nearly impossible. If the team gets stuck, an operator is available to guide players in the right direction using hints.

What can you find here?

Inside the escape room, you will find a thematically decorated interior featuring nautical elements, maps, cipher equipment, and technical puzzles. The experience includes sound and lighting backdrops that build the atmosphere of the unknown environment in the Bermuda Triangle. The facility's background facilities include a reception area where the initial briefing takes place, as well as a space for storing personal belongings.

Who is the place suitable for?

The game is designed for smaller groups of friends, families with older children, and teambuilding teams (optimally 2 to 5 people). It is ideal for all lovers of mysteries and thrill who prefer an active form of entertainment over passively watching a movie. Due to the difficulty of some logical tasks, the game is recommended for children aged 12 and up accompanied by adults; however, younger enthusiasts with sharp thinking can also be an asset to the team.

What can you visit in the surroundings?

Directly in the town of Spišská Nová Ves, you can visit the Rímskokatolícky farský kostol Nanebovzatia Panny Márie church with the tallest church tower in Slovakia, or the popular ZOO Spišská Nová Ves. Just a few kilometers from the town lies the gateway to the Národný park Slovenský raj national park (Čingov resort), which offers hikes through famous gorges and the Prielom Hornádu. The Pozemná Lanovka na Hrebienok funicular connects the aforementioned settlement of Starý Smokovec and the Hrebienok peak in the Vysoké Tatry. This unique funicular railway on our territory has been in operation since 1908. On its route, it reaches a speed of 36 km/h and overcomes an elevation difference of 247 m. On a track 1,052 m long, it transports up to 1,600 people per hour. It goes without saying that a ride in the glass-walled funicular amidst the scenery of Tatra nature is an unforgettable experience for both young and old. Proof of this is that Queen Elizabeth also took a ride on the funicular to Hrebienok during her visit to the Vysoké Tatry.

Of course, the funicular ride is not the only reason why hundreds of enthusiastic tourists and nature lovers come to Hrebienok. This place is the starting point for several hiking trails. A very popular and easy walk leads from Hrebienok to Vodopády Studeného potoka, which you can comfortably manage even with smaller children. The round trip will take you about an hour. If you would like to extend your trip a bit, you can head from the waterfalls all the way to Tatranská Lomnica. The route Hrebienok – Vodopády Studeného potoka – Tatranská Lomnica will take you approximately two hours. More seasoned hikers can head from Hrebienok to Sliezsky dom, Téryho chata, or Zbojnícka chata. A very popular hiking trail leads from Hrebienok to Slavkovský štít, which you can complete, including the return journey, in under 8 hours.

After returning to Hrebienok, you can refresh yourself at the local Snack bar located right in the funicular building. Alternatively, relax in the pleasant bear zone. At Hrebienok, you will be welcomed by its patron, a large iron bear named Kubo. He traveled all the way from Trebišov and boasts strong teeth made of iron wedges and eyes made of semi-precious stones. He has his wooden friends on Dolná lúka. In their company, you can enjoy a pleasant rest and recharge your energy for walks in Tatra nature.

After a lovely day spent at Hrebienok, the funicular will take you back down to Starý Smokovec. However, your adventure does not have to end here. Right in this Tatra settlement, you can visit Tricklandia, a popular gallery of trick art and optical illusions, and in winter, you can enjoy great skiing on the gentle slope of Jakubková lúka. If you no longer have the energy for more adventures after your trip to Hrebienok, find accommodation near Pozemná lanovka na Hrebienok and enjoy the remaining Tatra adventures the next day. Hnilčík

Where the past of Spiš meets art

Are you looking for a place where the story of the land meets human creativity and legends of ancient giants? Would you like to be surrounded by the raw beauty of a former mining quarry, where the wealth of the earth was once extracted, but today you will find peace surrounded by art?

In the village of Hnilčík in the Spiš region, you will come across the Obri v raji area, which was created by the reclamation of an industrial space. Today, instead of mining machinery, you will discover an open-air gallery where geological rock layers are complemented by installations inspired by the local mining past. The project connects history with a new vision of land use and invites you to discover the nooks and crannies of this area at your own pace.

What will you find here?

In the area, you will see a collection of sculptures and objects made from natural materials that recall the mining tradition and the ancient legend of giants. You can walk along marked paths leading through the rugged terrain of the quarry, while a playground awaits children. The space is adapted for cyclists, and during the winter months, it serves as a base for winter activities.

Who is this place suitable for?

The place is suitable for families with children, tourists, cyclists, and dog owners who seek an unconventional connection between nature and industrial history. Due to the rugged surface of the quarry, we recommend suitable footwear. Parking is possible near the designated areas.

What can you visit in the surroundings?

In the wider surroundings, you will discover the town of Spišská Nová Ves, which serves as an entrance gate to the Národný park Slovenský raj. History lovers may head to Spišský hrad. The surroundings of the village of Hnilčík offer diverse possibilities for cyclists thanks to a network of marked trails in the Volovské vrchy mountains, which are suitable for family trips as well as mountain bikes.

If you plan to stay in the region for longer, you have several accommodation options. In the village of Hnilčík and its surroundings, you will find an offer of private cottages and guesthouses that offer authentic peace in the mountains.
