Nálepkove vodopády

Nálepkove vodopády

Mlynky

Nálepkove vodopády represent a system of waterfalls in Zejmarská roklina gorge in the southern part of Slovenský raj. The waterfall system is about 22 meters high, with the tallest of them estimated at 6 meters. The beauty of Nálepkovy vodopády stands out most during the spring thaw or after heavy rains. In winter, on the other hand, the waterfalls freeze, creating beautiful icefalls.

Zejmarská roklina, with a length of 800 meters, is the shortest gorge in Slovenský raj, but at the same time, it is one of the most beautiful and less demanding to cross. Nevertheless, you need to account for everything typical of this area, metal footpegs, ladders, and wooden bridges. Zejmarská roklina and the waterfalls are part of the circular educational trail NCH Slovenský raj. The trail starts in the village of Dedinky, is almost 10 km long, and the walk takes approximately 3 hours. It is recommended to complete the route only in dry weather.

Nálepkovy vodopády are named after Captain Ján Nálepka, a hero of World War II, who worked as a teacher in the village of Mlynky - Biele Vody before the war. He sympathized with Masaryk's ideas; in 1939, he was first demobilized, later recalled to the army, and sent to the Russian front. There he participated in anti-partisan operations. In reality, however, Nálepka cooperated with the partisans under the code name Repkin, supplying them with information and reporting fictitious numbers of killed insurgents to the Germans. Eventually, with part of his regiment, he defected to the partisans under the leadership of General Saburov. In May 1943, the 1st Czecho-Slovak Partisan Unit in the USSR was formed this way.

If you stay in this area, we also recommend visiting other tourist destinations. The location can boast other waterfalls such as Korytový, Skalný, or Závojový. The waterfall is also simply called Kaskády. The water flows step by step among the rocks, thus creating enchanting phenomena. Tourists love this gorge because you can find right three waterfalls here. Ladders and footbridges lead through the Kaskádový vodopád, so you pass directly through it. It is truly an adventure.

Set out for the Kaskádový vodopád from the tourist center Píla. It is not far from the village of Hrabušice, just past Podlesok. You can park your car here and refresh yourself in the local buffet. The gorges of the Slovenský raj are subject to a fee, so do not forget to pay the entrance fee. Each step creates a riverbed where the water gains greater strength to be able to create another cascade.

The Kaskádový vodopád will lead you further through the gorge all the way to the Terasový vodopád with a height of 8 meters. Behind it, at the top of Piecky, the gorge ends, and you can continue via Malá Poľana back to the starting point Píla. In the magnificent surroundings of Národný park Slovenský raj lies the Suchá Belá gorge, home to several waterfalls. One of the gurgling waterfalls, which turns into a breathtaking icefall in winter, is Okienkový vodopád. Although its 8 m height does not make it one of the largest, it is definitely worth seeing. Its beautiful cascades will charm you at first sight.

The lower part of the waterfall consists of a beautiful small lake into which the cold, clear water of the Suchá Belá stream flows. When you get above the waterfall, you will discover the origin of its name. A rock window is located there. You reach it via a ladder, but be careful. The splashing water tends to wet it, making it quite slippery. During the walk through the 3.5 km long gorge, many other waterfalls and small lakes can be found along the course of the stream.

A trip to Suchá Belá is without a doubt worth making in spring. Nature is awakening, the snow is melting, and the waterfalls are gaining volume. In summer, escape here from the overheated city to cool off under the tree canopies; in autumn, you will be left in silent awe of all those beautiful colors. And winter is certainly great as well, magical icefalls bring sparkles especially to children's eyes as they search their surroundings for Olaf. After all, who wouldn't love warm hugs?

When you decide to visit Okienkový vodopád, your starting point will be Podlesok. From the parking lot, your steps will lead along the green hiking trail. After a section of approximately half a kilometer, you will find yourself at the beginning of the gorge. From there, you will continue through true wilderness. Prepare yourself for metal footpegs, small bridges, and especially ladders. Therefore, do not underestimate your choice of clothing as well as quality hiking footwear. With good preparation, the hike is undemanding, and both children and seniors can handle it physically.

Kláštorisko

Kláštorisko

Letanovce

Kláštorisko is the ruins of a 13th-century Carthusian Gothic monastery that you will find while wandering through the Spiš region, in the beautiful surroundings of Slovenský raj (Slovak Paradise). It is also known by the names Skala útočišťa or Strážny vrch. It is located at an altitude of 760 m a.s.l. in the cadastral territory of the village of Letanovce. Together with the areas of Čingov and Podlesok, Kláštorisko belongs to the most important centers in the northern part of Slovenský raj.

The monastery's founding charter dates back to December 1299. Archaeological finds confirm that a hillfort structure from the Lusatian culture period was located here. According to legend, the monastery is punishment for the death of the provost of the Crusaders in Chmeľov. He was supposedly killed by Master Kokoš from the prominent Brezovický family, who as punishment and redemption for such a bloody crime had to found six monasteries. However, he only managed to found two. According to some historians, however, something else stands behind its creation.

The Kláštorisko plateau had a very important strategic location. From here, there is a view of the entire Spišská kotlina basin and its surroundings. That is precisely why inhabitants chose it as their refuge as early as the Late Bronze Age (11th century BC), and subsequently in the Early Iron Age (600 BC), they even built a fortress of sorts on the site. During the Tatar invasions of the Kingdom of Hungary, misery, hunger, and suffering befell ordinary people. The people of Spiš tried to save their wives and children from the cruelty of the Tatars. Historians believe that it was the people who hid on the rock and survived the Tatar invasion who built a makeshift wooden church at this location. A monastery was later built behind the walls as an expression of gratitude for saving lives.

The first structure to be built was a chapel north of the church, later used as a chapter house. The space south of the presbytery served the monks as a sacristy. A large monastery corridor was built around the entire perimeter of the courtyard. Along its perimeter were the monks' dwellings separated by low walls. Connected to the large cloister in the southeastern part is a small monastery corridor that stands opposite the communal spaces. Such a division of monastery corridors is specific to the Carthusian Order, as it reflects their requirement for a life of solitude, silence, and strict asceticism. The golden era of the monastery's operation was at the turn of the 14th and 15th centuries.

At the end of the 15th century, however, the monastery's life was accompanied by devastation associated with a destructive fire. It was attacked by the Hussites, later by the bratríci (Brotherhoods), who found their refuge at Marcelov hrad. This resulted in the monastic community moving to Levoča, where they built a new monastery and stayed for a short time. Thanks to the return of the monks, the monastery in Letanovce underwent reconstruction in 1478. Not only were necessary repairs carried out, but also various renovations and stylistic architectural alterations took place. In 1517, a hospice was built in its southern part. The remainder of the monastery's existence was influenced by political changes, the mortgaging of estates to the town of Kežmarok, as well as plundering by the robber knight Matej Bašo. In 1543, by decree of the General Chapter, the monastery was abandoned and demolished.

You can reach the monastery on foot from Hrabušice - Podlesok through Prielom Hornádu or from Čingov via Tomášovský výhľad. The braver ones can also go through the settlement in Letanovce. The complex is accessible year-round, and in summer, professional guided tours are available for interested visitors. The entire area of Kláštorisko is a very popular tourist destination. There is even a symbolic cemetery with exhibited artworks by young artists from the Spiš region. The exposition commemorates personalities who contributed to the development of the national park, as well as the lost lives of those who perished in Slovenský raj.

So whether you are interested in the history of the monastery or attracted to hiking in Slovenský raj, you are in the right place. Book accommodation near Kláštorisko on the Letanovce accommodation page and come admire not only the beauty of this monument, but also the famous Letanovský mlyn mill or one of the waterfalls in Letanovce.

Standard walking shoes are sufficient to access the base of the bridge, but maximum caution and adherence to the prohibition of entering the tracks themselves are required when moving near the railway.

What can you visit in the surroundings?

Right in Telgárt, there is another technical rarity, the Telgártska slučka loop, and the nearby Telgártsky viadukt viaduct. You can visit the source of the Hron river in the Besník pass or ascend the legendary peak Kráľova hoľa, which is the cradle of Slovak natural poetry. For history and geology lovers, Dobšinská ľadová jaskyňa cave or the picturesque village of Šumiac with its unique bell museum are within easy reach.

Prielom Hornádu

Prielom Hornádu

Smižany

Prielom Hornádu is one of the most beautiful hiking trails in Národný park Slovenský raj. It is located in the Košický kraj region in the Spišská Nová Ves district. The route is interwoven with numerous ladders, bridges, footbridges, and chains, so do not forget to wear sturdy footwear. If you are at least a slightly fit hiker, the adventure can begin.

Starting points for you can be the villages of Smižany, Čingov, Spišské Tomášovce, Hrabušice, Letanovce, or Podlesok. In 1964, Prielom Hornádu was declared a National Nature Reserve, and rightly so. The trail is 16 km long and here you will find exceptional fauna and flora, natural scenery, and geomorphological phenomena. Information boards are available to you. Kaňon Hornádu is in some places only a few meters wide. However, the elevation gain you tackle here is over 300 meters. Truly an adrenaline-pumping attraction.

Definitely do not bring very young children here and do not come if you are afraid of heights. On the contrary, if you have courage and good physical condition, Prielom Hornádu is the right choice for a trip for you. If you set off from the village of Podlesok, you will come across several benches for resting or a spring with drinking water. The hiking trail will lead you through diverse sections with beautiful waterfalls. Perhaps the most beautiful is Obrovský vodopád, which reaches a height of up to 60 meters.

Prielom Hornádu is accessible all year round. In winter, however, the water freezes in some places. The ladders and footbridges are slippery, so you need to be careful during the ascent. In the summer months, boating on the Hornád river is popular. However, you can only navigate in small watercraft. Rafting is not permitted. Do not forget to register on the website of Národný park Slovenský raj.

If you are planning to visit Slovenský raj, it is not only the Hornád gorge that will be a great attraction for you. We also recommend visiting Kláštorská roklina, which is rich in breathtaking waterfalls, or Tomášovský výhľad, from whose heights you can see far and wide.

The nature of Národný park Slovenský raj is unforgettable, and it is certainly worth coming here for a holiday. You will find ideal accommodation near Prielom Hornádu with us. You can also choose from a wide range of accommodation in Slovenský raj. You will remember the hiking you experience here for a long time to come.

Tomášovský výhľad

Tomášovský výhľad

Spišské Tomášovce

Tomášovský výhľad is located on the southern slope of Ludmanka, at an altitude of 667 m above sea level, in Slovenský raj. It is an impressive rock outcrop of a terraced shape with an overhang high above the Hornád river. From the top, you will enjoy a breathtaking view of Prielom Hornádu, Čertova Sihoť, the valley of Biely potok, as well as the Vysoké Tatry mountains. The ascent to it is not overly demanding, but the reward in the form of the most beautiful view in the Slovenský raj region is well deserved.

A group of climbers from Spišská Nová Ves, consisting of Brnčal, Huba, and Leschinský, was the first to conquer the wall of Tomášovský výhľad on October 8, 1938. Since then, the spot has been swarming with tourists, as everyone wants to enjoy this unforgettable view at least once. If you manage to arrive at a time when you are alone at the viewpoint, enjoy the unique atmosphere of the place. It is just you with your thoughts, a deep abyss below you, wild nature all around, silence, and a special sense of peace.

The limestone massif of Tomášovský výhľad has long been used as a climbing training ground, so you may notice steel pitons at the top. Currently, there are around 100 known climbing routes of various difficulty levels that can be used to conquer the steep wall. Rock climbing competitions are also held here. Directly below the rock terrace lies the lesser-known Michalova džura cave.

The starting point for the hike is the parking lot in the village of Čingov. From there, you will follow the yellow hiking trail, which will lead you past the Pomník Slovenského raja monument and a chalet settlement all the way to the top. You will overcome a certain incline and in about an hour (or even less via some routes), you will arrive at the spot. The entire route is 3.5 km long with an elevation gain of 235 m. It is not uncommon to pass families with young children or groups of seniors during the hike. Another option is to arrive from Spišské Tomášovce along the green hiking trail, which is considered the easiest route. Interesting routes also lead from Smižany, Ďurkovec, and Spišská Nová Ves. Cyclists will also appreciate the marked yellow MTB cycling route leading from the village of Spišské Tomášovce. Anyone with enough stamina should try the loop trail through Prielom Hornádu, which is among the most attractive routes.

Living in Slovakia and not seeing Tomášovský výhľad is like being Slovak and never tasting bryndzové halušky (sheep cheese dumplings). You might hesitate at first, but then you cannot get enough. Slovenský raj and its surroundings are a lifelong passion, where tourists come to find inner peace and draw the purest energy from nature. Book a stay in the vicinity of Tomášovský výhľad, for example on the accommodation Čingov or accommodation Spišské Tomášovce pages, and enjoy perfect views of our beautiful Mother Nature.

Národný park Slovenský raj

Národný park Slovenský raj

Dedinky

Národný park Slovenský raj is one of nine Slovak national parks and is considered one of the most beautiful. It stretches across the Banskobystrický kraj, Prešovský kraj, and Košický kraj regions, where it extends into the Spiš region. It is located within the territories of the Brezno, Poprad, Spišská Nová Ves, and Rožňava districts. The territory of Slovenský raj is a true paradise for hikers. Waterfalls, canyons, rocks, and breathtaking views—this is how our most visited national park could also be characterized.

NP Slovenský raj is a paradise for both animals and tourists

Slovenský raj was declared a national park in 1988. There are 11 national nature reserves and 8 nature reserves here. The park's territory lies in the north of the Slovenský Rudohorie mountains. Due to its fauna and flora, it has been included in the highest level of protection. Bears, wolves, foxes, and lynx live here, and even the Tatra chamois was artificially released here in 1963. Trout swim in the streams, and we can find various species of falcons as well as the golden eagle here.

The area of Národný park Slovenský raj is 19,414 hectares. Two rivers, the Hnilec and the Hornád, flow through the park, creating unique water phenomena—canyons, gorges, ravines, and waterfalls. The longest gorge is Prielom Hornádu, which was declared a national nature reserve as early as 1964. The section is 16 km long and belongs to the cadastre of the village of Letanovce. The trail is full of bridges, ladders, footbridges, and chains. Tourists from far and wide come to admire the wonderful scenery here.

The most visited gorge in Slovenský raj is Suchá Belá, through which a stream of the same name flows. You can reach it from the tourist center of Podlesok near the village of Hrabušice. The valley is interspersed with several waterfalls such as Misové vodopády, Korytový, or the beautiful Okienkový vodopád. With good hiking boots, even children can manage this undemanding and interesting hike.

Explore gorges, waterfalls, and the adrenaline-filled via ferrata

Národný park Slovenský raj also offers other gorges to explore. Klaštorská dolina is relatively short but popular with families with children. On the 1.5-kilometer route, you can admire Vodopád objaviteľov, Strakov vodopád, or Dúhový vodopád. Your starting point will be Kláštorisko, which is a ruin of a 13th-century Carthusian monastery. You will find a tourist center and a restaurant here. The entrance to this part of Slovenský raj is a rope bridge—a footbridge that was the first to be built when the gorge was opened to the public.

We also recommend visiting other nature reserves of Slovenský raj. In the Sokolia dolina gorge, which is the steepest valley in the park, you will find Závojový vodopád. With its height of 75 meters, it is the highest waterfall in Slovenský raj, and you can visit it from Tomášovská Belá. A no less famous gorge is Kyseľ, where the second largest waterfall in this park, Obrovský vodopád, is located. Adrenaline enthusiasts in the gorge will certainly be pleased by the Kyseľ Ferrata—a place where you can try rock climbing.

Other popular gorges include Piecky, Veľký Sokol, and Tiesňavy. The gorges in NP Slovenský raj require an entry fee but are open year-round. The weather, just like in the mountains, can be changeable here. Before your visit, always check the forecast and check the status of the hiking trails on the national park's website. Do not forget good, waterproof clothing or a raincoat. Due to its humidity, Slovenský raj resembles a primeval forest.

The most beautiful view and a magical ice cave await you

The most beautiful view in Slovenský raj will undoubtedly open up to you at Tomášovský výhľad. You can reach this rocky outcrop from the tourist center of Čingov or from the village of Smižany. Even seniors or families with children can handle the ascent to it. Of course, caution is advised. From an altitude of 667 m a.s.l., you will be able to see as far as the Vysoké Tatry mountains.

There is a large number of caves in Národný park Slovenský raj, most of which remain unexplored. Dobšinská ľadová jaskyňa, accessible from the village of Dobšiná, is open to the public. And as the name suggests, the cave is a magical realm of ice. So, if your children love Frozen, Elsa, Anna, or the snowman named Olaf, a visit to the cave will be an unforgettable experience for them.

If you are looking for a place in Slovenský raj to swim or laze about so that you can rest after a demanding hike, try the Klauzy water reservoir. The shores of the Palcmanská Maša water reservoir in the village of Dedinky also offer perfect relaxation. This largest water reservoir in Slovenský raj will also be an ideal starting point for your further wanderings through the national park.

Thanks to its countless natural beauties, Slovenský raj is the right place for an active holiday. Go on hikes here and admire what nature has created. Slovenský raj and Nízke Tatry are among our most popular national parks. Thousands of tourists visit them every year, and not by chance. They stand out with their gorgeous environment. And imagine all that beauty wrapped under a fairytale-white blanket of snow. If you head to the village of Vernár, you can enjoy this view with your own eyes.

The village of Vernár is a relatively large mountain village situated high in the mountains. A few kilometers further lies the well-known and feared Vernár mountain pass, which requires an extra dose of caution, especially in winter. The small village of Vernár is located approximately 20 km from the town of Poprad. It is also unique for its location relative to national parks, as it lies right on the boundary between Nízke Tatry and Slovenský raj.

The ski resort Vernár - Studničky, which stretches just 500 meters from the village, is also very popular among tourists. Despite not being anywhere near the largest Slovak ski resorts, it can pride itself on its versatility. You will find slopes of all difficulty levels here. This guarantees great skiing for skiers of every performance category, from complete beginners to advanced sports skiers.

The Vernár - Studničky ski area is also known in summer, as a marked hiking trail leads directly through it up to the peak of Kráľova hoľa. In winter, however, there are top-quality snow-covered downhill slopes. A modern artificial snowmaking system guarantees plenty of snow. Nature also contributes to this, as the resort lies at an altitude of 800 - 980 meters above sea level, which is quite significant.

You will find a trio of slopes here. Each of them is designated for a different group of skiers. The youngest and beginner skiers will come into their own on the slope in the lower part of the resort. The gentle incline guarantees ideal conditions for ski instruction. A certain part of the local slopes is even marked in black. This is intended only for experienced skiers, who will also enjoy themselves in Vernár. Set aside at least four hours in your schedule for this pleasant experience. After phone reservation and payment transfer, the guides will welcome you. They will assign your boats, equipment, and give you brief instructions on controlling the vessels and navigation basics. The cruise itself lasts approximately 3 hours, depending on your skills and the number of stops you make.

Shortly after the start, you will sail in boats or rafts to the Trebejovská perej rapid. It is not technically demanding to pass through, but you will certainly enjoy riding its waves. There is a small hydroelectric power plant in Kostoľany nad Hornádom, and you will need to carry your vessel over for approximately 100 meters because of it. This is also an opportunity for a short break and refreshments. Enjoying the trip along the river beneath the canopy of poplars is amazing. Watching fish and waterfowl will appeal to nature lovers. The cool river waves will refresh you even on the hottest summer days. Right before the end of the trip, the Ťahanovská vlna wave will also delight you. It will challenge you a bit more, but there is no need to worry.

The trip is of medium difficulty and can easily be handled by children aged 8 and up. We recommend taking a swimsuit and a T-shirt on the boat. In case of cooler weather, suitable paddling clothing or a waterproof jacket is advised. On sunny days, do not forget to pack sunscreen. It is also important to wear suitable water footwear (sneakers, sturdy sandals) to protect your feet from injury on sharp rocks or glass.

After reaching the Košická lodenica boathouse, the event organizers will, if you wish, transport you back to Kysak by car. This is especially convenient if you left your car or other vehicle there. Naturally, the organizers offer various types of routes as well as canoeing courses or adventurous rafting on the Hornád. However, keep in mind that it is a good idea to book accommodation near the Splav Hornádu.

Huta Etelka

Huta Etelka

Nižná Slaná

During a visit to the village of Nižná Slaná, stop by its significant industrial monument. It is the huta Etelka blast furnace, which is often also referred to as the iron heart of Gemer. Once upon a time, metallurgical materials mined in the Gemer region, which was rich in gold, silver, copper, and other mineral rocks, were smelted in this furnace.

In the village of Nižná Slaná, which lies at an altitude of 360 m a.s.l., you can also admire the beauty of a unique village bell tower or uplift your faith by visiting the Evangelical church from the first half of the 14th century. After descending from the Dobšinský kopec hill, the building of huta Etelka, which was built in 1867, will appear before you. It was built by Count Emanuel Andrássy. An interesting fact is that it was named after his mother. Thanks in part to this furnace, iron production was able to come fully alive in the 1860s. At that time, huta Etelka belonged to very prosperous enterprises in Gemer. Nowadays, your heart might break upon visiting it when you see the state it is in.

Once the most beautiful blast furnace in Slovakia, it reached a height of 11 m and its volume was up to 60 m³. The foundation was a pillar structure and an "open chest" design. A cast-iron heater was used for heating, and the blast furnace blower was powered by a water wheel. The furnace remained active until 1907. After its closure, there were efforts to reopen it with a specialization in a wet gravity ore dressing plant. Unfortunately, this proved unsuccessful, so the furnace was closed down again in 1910.

Today, this technical monument is visited by many of its admirers or lovers of interesting photography. Local residents from a non-profit organization are striving to save it. In the future, a museum is planned at huta Etelka that would showcase the operation of this furnace or the history of mining in this area.

Discovering the beauties of this village will certainly take more than one day. After all, who wouldn't go to see Hrad Muránčok as well? Feel free to put on your hiking shoes and head to the nearby Grófska ľadovňa ice house in Vlachovo. It is a sought-after spot for collecting interesting photos for your photo book. After your activities, you can indulge in a little rest at the Kúpalisko Vlachovo swimming pool. Or will you also visit the breathtaking Kaštieľ v Betliari? It is a sumptuous aristocratic residence from the 17th century housing various interesting exhibits. Its adjacent English park will charm you as well.

So that you don't have to rush home tired, we recommend booking accommodation near huta Etelka. As a family, you can choose your comfort in cottages Nižná Slaná, or opt for simpler private accommodation. It only depends on your preferences and the length of stay you choose.

Evanjelický kostol v Spišskej Novej Vsi

Evanjelický kostol v Spišskej Novej Vsi

Spišská Nová Ves

On Radničné námestie in Spišská Nová Ves stands a charming historical building of the Evanjelický kostol. The main altar, featuring a beautiful painting of Jesus Christ praying on the Mount of Olives, serves as the church's centerpiece. Additionally, the church boasts the oldest preserved library in the Spiš region, located on the choir loft.

The Evanjelický kostol in Spišská Nová Ves was built under the Patent of Toleration from 1781 and, according to the rules of the time, had to be constructed without a tower. Historians have discovered plans for the addition of a tower, but its construction never took place due to a lack of funds. The church will captivate you with its exquisite exterior architecture. It is built in the Neoclassical style, and the floor plan itself takes the shape of a Greek cross. Its builder was master mason František Bartelom, who also drew up the plan for the building. Construction began on March 29, 1790, and the consecration of the church took place six years later, on October 9, 1796.

In addition to the stunning altar and painting of Christ, you will also see an alabaster relief depicting Jesus' conversation with the Samaritan woman at the well. Another valuable treasure is the baptismal font, which originates from a wooden prayer house dating back to the times before the current church was built. The wooden pews are made of larch wood and were crafted by master carpenter Thomas Thern. The organ was built by the Viennese master Friedrich Deutschmann between 1882 and 1883. The church features excellent acoustics, thanks to which it is still used today to host concerts and festivals of organ and classical music.

Since 2013, you can also admire the restored original statues of the four Evangelists, St. John, St. Luke, St. Matthew, and St. Mark. The choir loft houses a rare library belonging to the former Evangelical Gymnasium. On October 15, 1963, the Evanjelický kostol in Spišská Nová Ves was listed in the Register of Cultural Monuments in Slovakia.

Discover other magical places in Spišská Nová Ves as well. Delight your children and take them to the zoo or to the large indoor children's center Alex Park. Do you long to treat your body to a pleasant rest in the warmth? Or just to switch off from everyday worries for a moment? Then head to the Sans Souci site in the picturesque village of Iliašovce, located in eastern Slovakia in the Košický kraj region. Tucked away in its forest, hidden from the eyes of passers-by, is a unique wooden sauna that you can use specifically for relaxation and recreation.

You can enjoy the positive and detoxifying effects on the human body if you visit this unique natural sauna. A private individual stood behind its creation. Their main goal was an escape from the everyday world into a natural environment with the intention of doing something good for their body as well. Looking into our history, we can discover that the origin of saunaville dates back to 4000 BC. Even back then, baths such as the Turkish or Arabian hammam, Roman public baths, or the Korean sauna were known. We only learn about the Finnish sauna in 1112, when it served to heat dwellings in Finland.

Do you also feel like coming and experiencing sauna bathing firsthand? Book your slot for this wooden Finnish sauna online. Here, you will light up the wood-burning stove and take a seat on your chosen wooden bench. For a full 15 minutes, enjoy the indescribable view of the soothing nature, where you might even catch a glimpse of wild game. After this time, cold air will stroke your heated body, and with determination, you will step down to a wooden tub filled with cold water. You can freely repeat this process 2 to 3 times. However, after each cycle, do not forget to take a moment to pause and "tune into yourself" in the relaxation room. You might be so tired that you even take a short nap. Make sure to bring your own towels, sheets, or slippers with you, as these are not provided at the sauna. If you plan to use the sauna in the evening hours, it is also advisable to pack flashlights or your own light source.

You too can come and enjoy the beneficial effects that act on the entire human organism. It will relieve your tension, strengthen blood circulation, rejuvenate your skin, and speed up your metabolism. Thanks to sweating, you will get rid of undesirable substances from your body. A stay in the sauna is recommended for visitors who do not suffer from any health complications. To enjoy sauna bathing to the fullest, we recommend booking accommodation near Lesná sauna Iliašovce.

Iliašovce

If you are planning a day in nature where you will be able to enjoy breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside, head towards the thousand-year-old chapel. The summer house or also Kaplnka Sans Souci is located in a small forest near Iliašovce.

The village of Iliašovce is a sought-after location in eastern Slovakia because it is situated near the Národný park Slovenský raj. You do not have to immediately set out on a hike through this park. A light walk along the marked trail to the millennium chapel will be quite enough for you. Directly from Iliašovce, this activity will take you approximately 20 minutes on foot, but you can also choose other surrounding villages as your starting point. From the villages of Smižany and Harichovce, the route is approximately 4 km long, and from Spišská Nová Ves, it is roughly 4.5 km.

Many tourists and cyclists, not only from surrounding villages, come to admire the reconstructed Kaplnka Sans Souci with their own eyes. Count Štefan Csáky had the chapel built in 1773. In addition to the chapel, an extensive complex was built here, which was appropriately complemented by buildings and a park. The place became famous mainly because grand balls and festivities were held here in the past. Unfortunately, an expensive lifestyle pushed the count into financial difficulties, and he gradually had to sell off and even demolish the sumptuously equipped complex.

The letohrádok Sans Souci is a popular tourist relaxation spot. Locals know this place under the name millenium chapel. Within the complex, which is maintained by a local civic association, you can experience other activities besides walking. Children will enjoy the swings, families head here for bonfires at the fire pit, and seniors appreciate the benches designed for resting. A marked cycle route can also lead cyclists here. You will learn more about this place from the information boards, which describe not only its history. You can leave your mark here by signing the guestbook. If you are more adventurous, feel free to embark on a night adventure with the manager's consent and pitch a tent here for the night.

Below the chapel, you also have the opportunity to enjoy the beneficial effects of a sauna. Nearby is the forrest sauna Iliašovce. As part of your trip, feel free to plan a visit to the Spišské múzeum – Výstavná sieň, where various concerts, conferences, or academic lectures are organized. You can learn about miners, their tools, and their work by looking into the exhibition História baníctva na Spiši. On the square in Levoča, there is also the beautiful Bazilika sv. Jakuba v Levoči, where you can listen to organ music echoing beautifully through the building, complementing its spaces along with the famous altar of Majster Pavol. If you enjoy water fun or want to do something good for your body, head to the pool at the krytá plaváreň Spišská Nová Ves.

It is necessary to make enough time for all the good things in life. Even if it may seem to you nowadays that you have little time, know that you will love visiting this region. For this reason as well, book accommodation near kaplnka Sans Souci here. In the offer of accommodation facilities, besides your preferred apartments in Iliašovciach, you can also book cottages and chalets, or even wooden cabins. It is entirely up to you what type of accommodation you choose for your stay.

Kráľova hoľa

Kráľova hoľa

Šumiac

Kráľova hoľa, with its height of 1,946.1 m a.s.l., is the highest peak of the Kráľovohoľské Tatry. It belongs among the most visited peaks of the Nízke Tatry. It is questionable whether this is because it has been shrouded in legends and praised by poets for years, or due to the incredible view it offers. From it, you will see Spiš, Liptov, Horehronie, the Vysoké Tatry, and much more; you can even see all the way to the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Romania, and Ukraine.

Kráľova hoľa is also called the "mother of four rivers." The springs of the largest Slovak rivers, specifically the Čierny Váh, Hnilec, Hornád, and Hron, rise below it. A television and radio transmitter has been located on its summit since 1960. Its mast has a height of 137.5 m, and the radio broadcasting antennas are at a height of 59 m. The signal covers a quarter of Slovakia's territory.

Kráľova hoľa boasts one incredible record. The Apuseni Mountains in Romania were observed and documented from it. This means that a viewing distance of more than 300 km was documented. This is the first time this record has been broken in Slovakia, and by all accounts, within the whole of Central Europe as well.

This famous peak is attractive in both summer and winter. In summer, it is bustling with hikers, cyclists, and runners. The trail running event Nízkotatranská stíhačka is interesting, though only very fit runners dare to attempt it. In winter, meeting ski mountaineers there is no exception.

You can reach Kráľova hoľa only on foot or by bicycle. An asphalt road leads from the village of Šumiac (approximately 3 hours), but marked trails also lead from the villages of Telgárt (red trail or green trail via the Kráľova skala peak, approximately 3.5 hours), Liptovská Teplička (green trail, approximately 5 hours), and Spišské Bystré (blue trail via Smrečínske sedlo, approximately 7 hours). The blue hiking trail also leads through Predné sedlo from the village of Šumiac and is ideal if you want to avoid the asphalt road. If you choose the route from the village of Šumiac for your ascent, you can stop at Chata pod Kráľovou hoľou roughly halfway along the way.

Do you know the famous sentence: "A green tree stands on Kráľova hoľa."? Of course, who wouldn't know it. But have you seen it with your own eyes? It really is there. Or is it not? There is only one way to find out. Come there and verify it for yourself. Book nice accommodation near Kráľova hoľa, for example on the page ubytovanie Šumiac or ubytovanie Telgárt, and set off on an adventure.

Gánovské travertíny a Gejzír

Gánovské travertíny a Gejzír

Gánovce

On an inconspicuous meadow in the middle of a village beneath the Tatras, you will find a paleontological site of world importance. You might still remember Gánovce, located in the Poprad district, from history classes as the site where a travertine cast of the brainpart of a Neanderthal skull was found. Gánovské travertíny and Gejzír were declared a national natural monument in 1972. Although many tourists coming to this region have no idea about this rare place amidst a green meadow, visiting a location where natural wealth meets the breath of ancient times is certainly worth it.

The Gánovské travertíny reach a height of approximately two meters. Travertiine is a type of limestone created by the precipitation of freshwater thermal springs. Right at this spot in the 1920s, a blaster during travertine mining found a cast of part of a Neanderthal skull that contained the brain. He initially considered the cast to be an animal skull. He handed it over to an employee of the Národné múzeum v Prahe, unaware of the importance and significance of his discovery. Gánovské travertíny subsequently became an extraordinarily important site of fossil fauna and flora as well.

Not far from the travertine mound, there is a geyser that spouts thermal water every 30 minutes. Thermal springs with healing mineral water have been known in Gánovce since 1549, when Gánovské kúpele were mentioned for the first time. Today they operate under the name Aqua Spa Gánovce, and you can combine a visit to them in your trip itinerary with a walk to Gánovské travertíny and Gejzír.

In case you cannot get enough of water fun and relaxation in Gánovce, the water paradise AquaCity Poprad is located in the nearby district town of Poprad, being a popular excursion spot for visitors from all over Slovakia. Or will you feel like continuing your walk through history after visiting the paleontological site? Visit the Podtatranské múzeum v Poprade, where they will reliably guide you through the history of the entire Tatra region. The culmination of a pleasant day filled with unusual experiences will certainly be resting in accommodation near Gánovské travertíny and Gejzír. Come and see the unique exhibition of keyboard musical instruments and historical furniture. At the same time, the summer house is a place where various musical events regularly take place, especially classical music concerts.

The history of the manor house dates back to 1643 and is associated with the name František Mariássy. The original building was in the Renaissance style. Following a change of owners, it was rebuilt into the Rococo style between 1770 and 1775. Shortly after, the new owner Wolfgang Mariássy had the summer house Dardanely built in the garden. The manor house served its owners as a fortified residence for over 100 years. Following extensive reconstruction of the manor house, which took place between 1983 and 1994, a permanent exhibition of historical furniture is located here.

The main goal of the historical furniture exhibition is to point out the development of individual types of interior accessories and their chronological arrangement from the 17th century to the beginning of the 20th century. Individual pieces originating from the older period of classicism, empire, or Biedermeier can be found on the upper floor. Furniture from the younger period, representing historicisms, can be found on the ground floor. The exhibition is complemented by examples of crafts and applied arts, and you can also find collections of glass, porcelain, and period costumes. Also interesting is the collection of historical weapons, clocks, and mirrors. A special part consists of paintings by prominent painters such as J. Rombauer, J. Czauczik, or J. J. Stunder. The exhibited pieces of furniture come from Kaštieľ Markušovce as well as Kaštieľ Hodkovce.

The magnificent representative hall in letohrádok Dardanely is decorated with grand frescoes and still serves as a concert hall today. Did you know that this charming building was constructed specifically to welcome Emperor Joseph II? In the summer house, you can view a splendid exhibition of historical keyboard musical instruments, which is the only one of its kind in Slovakia.

Aqua Spa Gánovce

Gánovce

Spas and thermal pools are undoubtedly the right place for relaxation and rest. The popular Aqua Spa Gánovce thermal spa can also boast such an attribute. Originally one of the oldest Slovak spas, they are located under the Vysoké Tatry, in the village of Gánovce lying approximately 3 km from the district town of Poprad. Just a stone's throw from our majestic high mountains, you can indulge in a refreshing and healing bath in the summer months or enjoy a great massage or a healing wrap.

Aqua Spa Gánovce consists of a thermal pool area and a spa section offering massages, wraps, and healing baths. This is the reason why this place is sought after by families with children and groups of young people, as well as vacationing seniors. The thermal pool area consists of three pools surrounded by a combination of paved and green areas. The largest pool with dimensions of 5 x 15 m and a depth ranging from 120 to 140 cm is suitable for all age groups. The mineral water here reaches a temperature of 25 °C. The sitting pool is particularly suitable for relaxation and rest. It has a depth of 1 m and the water with a magnesium salt content reaches a temperature ranging from 35 to 37 °C. For the smallest swimmers and non-swimmers, there is a children's pool prepared with a depth ranging from 0.1 to 0.5 m and a water temperature of 30 to 32 °C.

In the spa section, after demanding days at work or after hiking in the mountains, you will surely gladly treat yourself to a classic or relaxing massage. Or will you prefer a paraffin or peat wrap? A very popular procedure for most visitors seeking relaxation and the healing effects of water is the healing bath. You can choose from a classic mineral bath, a fragrant additive bath, or a pearl mineral bath. Let yourself be pampered and treat yourself to pleasant relief.

Gánovské kúpele have a long-standing tradition and belong among the oldest spas in Slovakia. Their healing springs were first mentioned as early as 1549. They were reopened after reconstruction in 2010. The healing effects of local mineral springs are successfully used in the treatment of skin problems, musculoskeletal problems, in supporting convalescence after postoperative conditions, but also for digestive difficulties, rheumatism, and diabetes.

Whether you decide on a summer visit to the pleasant small thermal pool area or treat yourself to healing rest in the local spa, definitely do not bypass Aqua Spa Gánovce during your stay in the Vysoké Tatry. You can make your spa visit more pleasant with an interesting trip to the fascinating Gánovské travertíny a Gejzír. This is one of the most important paleontological sites in the world. If you take a liking to this journey through time, you might also get the desire to visit the nearby Podtatranské múzeum v Poprade. The accommodation offer near Aqua Spa Gánovce will also guarantee you a perfect holiday in the Vysoké Tatry. Accommodation in Poprad offering stylish guest houses as well as popular cottages and private accommodation is an ideal choice.
