The area boasts an exceptional location right in the heart of the region of three castles, Čachtice, Beckov, and Tematín. Access to the park is simple. After paying a nominal entrance fee, you can transport yourself to places that would otherwise take hours of driving and your time by car or other means of transport. The exhibition of this park is located outdoors. Therefore, it is a good idea to check the weather forecast so that the weather does not spoil your best experience of the tour.

Excursionists enjoy visiting this place because its grounds feature more than 80 models of various castles, châteaux, churches, cottages, and observation towers, as well as birthplaces of prominent Slovak personalities. You can see with your own eyes what Hrad Krásna Hôrka looked like before it burned down. Or will you transport yourself in your imagination to times past when the Lord of the Váh and Tatras, Matúš Čák Trenčiansky, lived at Trenčiansky hrad? Or perhaps you will be drawn to gaze at the elaborate craftsmanship of the birthplace of Pavol Országh Hviezdoslav?

All models in Park miniatúr v Podolí are built based on technical drawings. Therefore, if you come to see the model of Oravský hrad, you will find its exact copy here. This model is at a 1:50 scale, while some structures (mainly churches, cottages, and observation towers) are at a 1:25 or 1:30 scale. Čachtický hrad

Čachtický hrad

Čachtice

Almost every castle is associated with ancient legends that often inspire terror. One of the terrifying stories that you surely know is about Elizabeth Báthory. Her home was none other than Čachtický hrad. You no longer need to be afraid of the deceased ruler of the castle; only a beautiful view and walls breathing with history await you.

Čachtický hrad is located above the village of Čachtice of the same name. You will find it very easily. It is located at the foot of Malé Karpaty, between the towns of Nové Mesto nad Váhom and Piešťany. The Považie region is notoriously known for its high concentration of castles. These were intended to protect not only trade routes, but also the Kingdom of Hungary from attacks from the west. Čachtický hrad was located right on the imaginary front line. It was built in 1260, but the castle hill was inhabited much earlier.

The castle recorded its first major event shortly after its construction. As early as 1273, it had to face a massive attack by the Czech King Ottokar II. Many castles fell victim to his troops, but Čachtický hrad, although with heavy losses, resisted.

Later, the castle belonged to several rulers, undoubtedly the most famous being Matúš Čák Trenčiansky. After his death, King Sigismund took over the baton, gifting it to his devoted adjutant Stibor of Stiboricz. He owned up to 15 castles and was rightly called the "Lord of all Považie." The most famous castle he owned was Beckov.

From 1569, the Nádasdy family came to rule the castle. After the death of Tamás Nádasdy, it was controlled by his wife, who wanted to get rid of the castle. Pre-emptive rights to the castle were used by her son Ferenc Nádasdy. Although the Čachtice estate belonged to him, death awaited him two years later, and so the rule over the castle was entrusted to his wife, the legendary Elizabeth Báthory. Elizabeth married when she was only 15 years old, and it is very likely that she suffered from psychological problems. Her condition was not helped by separation from her husband, who was almost constantly at war. Solitude was responsible for the rise of sadism in the famous countess. It is rumored that a maid once pulled her hair while combing it. The enraged countess struck the maid so hard that she wounded her until she bled. The maid's blood fell on Báthory's face, and she felt as if she had rejuvenated. She began killing young girls en masse for their blood, which allegedly made her younger. She likely deprived 690 girls of their lives and tortured many of them. These practices became suspicious over time, and so on January 2, 1611, she stood trial. Her punishment was life imprisonment under house arrest, where she died in the summer of 1614. Her remains are allegedly buried in one of the castle walls.

The castle did not face a very rosy future. In 1708, the castle was conquered by the troops of Francis II Rákóczi and served only as a prison until 1799, when it burned down. Since then, it has been abandoned and falling into ruin. It underwent several reconstructions, the latest of which was scheduled to end in 2014. A visit to the castle is certainly interesting, especially if you want to see a rugged medieval military fortress. Čachtický hrad was a combat fortress, and romantic architectural whims had no place here. After the reconstruction, some parts will even be roofed, so you will see Čachtický hrad in a completely new outfit.

To enjoy the castle sufficiently, you can stay in close proximity. Directly below its walls lie the villages of Čachtice and Višňové. Both offer plenty of private rooms and family houses for rent, so you will be able to wake up with the silhouette of the castle behind your windows. If you are looking for a busier life, you will definitely like Nové Mesto nad Váhom. Hotels, guesthouses, or tourist hostels guaranteeing a cheap holiday are available here. Look at the beauties of Považie with perspective from Čachtický hrad.

The town of Piešťany, surrounded by the Malé Karpaty and Považský Inovec mountain ranges, has become a sought-after destination for domestic and foreign guests. The spa is located on an island lying on the Váh river. The Spa Island (Kúpeľný ostrov) is full of greenery and beautifully maintained gardens, attracting visitors not only with its architecture but also with its unique atmosphere and cultural opportunities.

Social life here is rich. Famous personalities love to visit the spa, and various cultural events and exhibitions take place here. Coffee shops and restaurants are filled with people, and you can taste exceptional specialties. Ľudovít Winter was only 20 years old when his father put him in charge of managing the spa. Young blood proved its worth. Together with his brother, they gradually built stylish hotels, invited talented doctors to Piešťany, and laid the foundation for the Balneologické múzeum. As a symbol of successful cures, they had a statue of a man breaking a crutch erected here, which stands in front of the entrance to the sanatorium.

The Piešťany spa has a 200-year tradition. Patients with rheumatism, musculoskeletal disorders, spine conditions, scoliosis, and post-injury or post-surgery conditions are treated here. Treatment for skin conditions and nervous system disorders is also successful.

Spa treatment relies primarily on thermal mineral water and healing sulfur mud. The water, which gushes from a depth of 2,000 meters, has a temperature of around 67 to 69 degrees. It contains a high proportion of sulfur, which has a beneficial effect on the musculoskeletal system. Sulfur mud positively affects joint diseases, reduces inflammation, and increases joint mobility. It is used either as a bath, a mud pool (bahenisko) in which the patient sits, or through mud wraps applied at a temperature of around 45 degrees. Up to 60 kilograms of mud are used for a single wrap.

Kúpele Piešťany offers as many as 60 types of procedures. These include balneotherapy, pool baths, bubble baths, carbonated tub or dry carbonated gas baths, Scottish douches, electrotherapy, light therapy, laser therapy, and many others. Various types of massages and acupuncture are available. Outdoor and indoor pools, as well as a sauna world, are a matter of course.

Part of the treatment includes rehabilitation, yoga practice, individual physical exercise, a rehabilitation path, and even Nordic walking. Here you can make use of a fitness center, sports grounds, tennis courts, or the Golf & Country Club golf course, which is located directly on the Spa Island and was the first golf course established in Slovakia.

If you choose to relax in Piešťany, in addition to the Spa Island, we also recommend a sightseeing boat cruise on the Váh river across the Sĺňava reservoir. Vodná nádrž Dubník lies near the town of Stará Turá, located about 2 km away from it. It was created on the Kostelník stream and consists of as many as two reservoirs, Dubník I and Dubník II, also known as old and new Dubník, which are separated by about 700 m.

In addition to the reservoir, the Klubový dom house, access roads, and a parking lot were built. Its commissioning took place on May 9, 1954. Exactly one year later, Klubový dom was opened; this former boathouse no longer exists today, with only concrete foundations remaining. Originally, only a pond dam was constructed here, but later the project was changed, and the dam was subsequently built up to its current level, reaching full completion only in 1964. Hrad Tematín

Hrad Tematín

Lúka

In western Slovakia, in the southwestern part of Považský Inovec in the cadastral area of the village of Lúka, you can find the currently ruined Hradu Tematín. It is an ideal place for easy hiking and spending time in nature. If you head to Tematínsky hrad, you certainly won't regret it.

Let's look into the history of this castle. From documents, we find out that it was founded in the 13th century right after the invasion of Mongol troops. Its task was to guard the borders of Hungary and at the same time serve as a refuge for local residents. During its existence, it passed through the hands of several wealthy and prominent families. The Bercsényi family is one of such families, associated with the following story. Supposedly at the time when Rákoczi's uprising was supposed to arrest Mikuláš Bercsényi and occupy the castle, this plan failed for the army. Mikuláš Bercsényi devised a solution where he swapped places with his commander, and instead of capturing the commander, who was already long gone by that time, they caught the garrison captain.

The castle was finally burned down in 1710 and only a ruin has remained of it to this day. This ruin is currently a great place for walks, even though it is necessary to be careful. Entry to it is at your own risk. It doesn't matter whether you come in spring or autumn, there are no entry restrictions here. You can even symbolically support the restoration of the castle with a voluntary admission fee into the donation box.

The ascent to the castle is possible from several places. The path is not difficult, it is rather long. Expect it to take you more than an hour and a half of your time. You have the option to go along the blue trail from the local recreational resort using the tourist path, or alternatively set out through Lúčanská dolina. Also in the village of Hrádok, you can find the right direction to the castle either along the marked route or the unmarked path.

Perhaps you are a family with children and it will be interesting for you to look for accommodation near Hrade Tematín. You need to keep in mind that your smallest offspring will remain tired after such a hike and will appreciate a rest. If you are looking for options of where to go on a trip in the vicinity of the castle, check out the animals at ZOO farme New Zealand. Kolonádový most v Piešťanoch

Kolonádový most v Piešťanoch

Piešťany

Kolonádový most v Piešťanoch is among the longest covered bridges in Slovakia. It is also nicknamed the Sklený most because one of its sections is completely glazed. When visiting the spa town of Piešťany, do not miss a walk across the bridge. You might just meet someone interesting there.

Spanning the Váh river, this masterpiece was designed by the architect Emil Belluš. The bridge ranks among functionalist structures in Slovakia. It replaced the original wooden bridge that connects the town center with the spa island. It is a fantastic pedestrian bridge that is also accessible to people with reduced mobility. A walk across it will leave you with a wonderful experience, as this is precisely where you can connect with other people, for instance while admiring the exhibited works.

Not only on the bridge but also in its surroundings, you can meditate and enjoy peaceful days in Piešťany. At its entrance on the town side stands the bronze statue of the barlolámač, the symbol of the spa town. In the year of its completion, namely in 1933, glass etchings entitled Detvy piesne and Na salaši were placed on the bridge. They were crafted by Martin Benka, and each consists of four panels. Today, these are classified among the movable cultural landmarks of the town. During World War II, the head of the spa protected them with his own body, and subsequently, to prevent the originals from being destroyed by vandals, they were replaced with replicas.

After walking across the bridge, you will certainly notice the facade carved with Latin inscriptions. On the town side, the loose translation reads Najuzdravujúcejšie piešťanské kúpele, and on the other side of the island it reads Vstaň a choď, which symbolizes the biblical scene where Jesus heals a paralytic.

So that you can walk across this bridge every day and perhaps enjoy the atmosphere of the town, which features various age groups, book your accommodation near Kolonádový most v Piešťanoch. You will not regret coming in spring when everything is blooming, nor in summer when a sightseeing boat cruises the Váh. In autumn, you can simply enjoy all the colors that the local nature bursts with, and in winter, you can relax your body in the spa.

Piešťany is popular with both domestic and foreign tourists. Thanks to its excellent location, seniors who prefer hotels in Piešťany will find what they are looking for here. MiniFARMA Lubina

MiniFARMA Lubina

Lubina

In the district of Nové Mesto nad Váhom, the homesteads near the village of Lubina hide a small treasure. MiniFARMA Lubina is a wonderful place for children and their parents, which was created gradually under the hands of a young family that decided to move from the hustle and bustle of the big city to the nature below Javorina. In the area, you can feel that it is built and embellished with love for animals, which received a home here without cages or bars.

This exceptional place was actually created by complete accident. The family that started their new life on the homesteads brought with them a tiny mare and two mini pigs. On the spacious plot of land with plenty of green area, mini versions of farm animals such as goats, horses, sheep, donkeys, geese, ducks, and many others were gradually added. On one hectare, more than 100 animals that are unique especially for their small stature live together today. It often happened that people on a walk opened the gate themselves to take a closer look at the farm inhabitants. This gave the owners the idea to open the gates of the premises officially as well, thus providing an unusual experience to the general public. The dream became a reality in 2013.

From the beginning, it was a simple vision: to create a relaxation space for families where both young and old would enjoy direct contact with animals. At the same time, the owners did not want to keep the animals in cages or limit visitors' stay to an hour or two. Just as they granted freedom to the animals, they granted it to people too. They ensured unlimited access to the enclosures with animals, where visitors can observe, pet, or feed them in their natural environment. Everything is supervised by friendly and experienced animators who will gladly explain how to approach the animals so that you take away the greatest experience possible. With a smile, they will also answer all the questions your children might be curious about. You can spend as much time with the animals as you need, and the pace of the tour is truly in your hands, or rather, in your feet?

If you get tired or hungry, you can comfortably sit down in the relaxation areas of the complex where animals do not have access, but where you will not lose sight of them either. Comfortable bean bags and hammocks will offer you pleasant relaxation. Children will have fun on traditional playgrounds or discover the charm of the forest, water, and straw playground. In fairy-tale houses or on lookout towers, they will feel like princesses and princes. Pedal tractors, slides, or swings are also prepared here. For schools and groups, an online reservation form is available where they can easily book a tour in advance.

We guarantee that you will not want to leave the complex, as it is simply an oasis of peace and relaxation where you stay connected with nature from the moment you step inside until the gate closes behind you. You will surely be pleased that near MiniFARMA Lubina you will find pleasant accommodation options. The comfort of guesthouses or cottages in Stará Turá is within reach. After a pleasant rest, you can set out to discover other beauties in the surroundings. You can admire Vojenská veža na Jelenci, which is one of the peaks of Biele Karpaty. You can show children Mestské múzeum Stará Turá, where you will learn about the history of the local region. Železničné múzeum Stará Turá, which a group of local enthusiasts renovates and preserves for future generations in their free time, boasts rare exhibits of historical trains. In summer, you can refresh yourself and have fun on the shores of Vodná nádrž Dubník. Do you know the legend of the bloody lady of Čachtice? You can experience it firsthand at Čachtický hrad, which we definitely recommend visiting.

Štefánikova mohyla na Bradle

Štefánikova mohyla na Bradle

Brezová pod Bradlom

Mohyla na Bradle is the final resting place of the Slovak general Milan Rastislav Štefánik (1880 - 1919). It is located in Myjavská pahorkatina, at an altitude of 543 m above sea level. You will find the mound between Brezová pod Bradlom and Košariská, the birthplace of the author of famous quotes such as: "I will fight my way through, because I want to fight my way through," "Believe the truth, live the truth, and defend the truth," or “He who thinks that others will win his freedom for him is not worthy of it.”

M. R. Štefánik was an important scientist, soldier, politician (vice-chairman of the Czechoslovak National Council, minister of war), astronomer, photographer, and diplomat. He was a key figure in Slovakia, mediating contacts with French state officials and co-organizing the Czecho-Slovak Legions and the establishment of our modern statehood. Together with T. G. Masaryk and E. Beneš, they played an important role in the founding of Czecho-Slovakia.

Štefánik died tragically on May 4, 1919 near Ivanka pri Dunaji while returning to his homeland together with members of his Italian crew, who are buried alongside him on Bradlo. The mound is a masterpiece by architect Dušan Jurkovič and represents the highest standard of European monumental architectural creation. The cornerstone was laid on the fifth anniversary of Štefánik's death. The monument was solemnly unveiled on September 23, 1928. The structure has a rectangular shape. The lower terrace measures 93 x 62 m, while the upper terrace measures 45 x 32 m. Along the edges of the terrace stand four obelisks, each 12 m high. In the center of the upper terrace rises a sarcophagus with a tomb, under which Štefánik's grave is located at a depth of 8 m.

Its construction took 280 working days and costs reached an incredible 2,813,262 CZK. After the fall of the totalitarian regime, it underwent reconstruction that lasted almost 7 years, until 1996. In 1968, it was declared a national cultural monument, and in 2009, it was inscribed on the European Heritage list.

If you want to pay tribute to General Štefánik, read the text on the plaques on his tomb, or enjoy breathtaking views, the peak of Bradlo and the mound rising above it are the ideal place. You can reach the summit from the parking lot along a winding road with sharp turns. An ideal addition to this trip is a visit to Múzeum M. R. Štefánika, located in his birthplace in Košariská. Book your stay near Štefánik's Mohyla na Bradle, ideally on the page accommodation Brezová pod Bradlom or accommodation Košariská, and enjoy your trip.

Kaštieľ Chtelnica

Kaštieľ Chtelnica

Chtelnica

At the foot of Malé Karpaty, in the district of Piešťany, you will find the village of Chtelnica. If you like history, charming places, and monuments, do not miss a visit to the manor house whose origins date back to the 16th century. Explore the premises of the manor house, which was once even visited by Maria Theresa. A unique feature of the manor house is its regularly spaced pavilions, which currently serve as a regional museum and Malokarpatská galéria. Come take a look into the past and let yourself be enchanted by Kaštieľ Chtelnica.

The landmark of the village once belonged to the noble Erdődy family. Their residence underwent a major reconstruction in the 18th century, transforming from the original Renaissance manor house into a Baroque one. It has preserved this appearance to this day. The furnishings of the manor house were truly opulent. Ján Erdődy, president of the Hungarian Royal Chamber, furnished the manor house and its surroundings in luxury to honor the visit of the monarch Maria Theresa. During her visit, he hosted a magnificent ball, fireworks, and hunting parties. Later in the 19th century, the Pálffy family took over the residence. The manor house and its surroundings acquired a new look with the addition of an English park featuring rare plants, a promenade, and allegorical statues.

The exposition of the regional museum consists of three parts: historical, paleontological, and speleological. In addition to the exposition, you have the opportunity to look inside the manor house premises. The spacious cellars served as storage for large quantities of wine. Malokarpatská galéria, located in the northern pavilion, has a versatile focus. Although it primarily introduces the fine arts and works of regional artists, photographers, painters, carvers, and sculptors also find their place here.

The Chapel of the Crucifixion is located in the eastern pavilion. Part of the accessible chapel includes an exposition of liturgical vestments and Christian literature. You can end the tour with a walk in the park with a pond.

You can recall a piece of more recent history in this interesting region by visiting the nearby village of Košariská. Múzeum Milana Rastislava Štefánika, located here, will introduce you to the life of an important figure in our history. If you go on your trip or holiday with children, a ride on a historical train will be a great experience for them. Lesná železnica Katarínka, located near the villages of Naháč and Dechtice, will show you how a mining locomotive used to run. All that is left to do is choose the right accommodation near Kaštieľ Chtelnica and set off for great experiences. A modern guesthouse or a cozy apartment? Whichever you decide, we believe you will be satisfied with your choice.

Gazdovský dvor Turá Lúka

Gazdovský dvor Turá Lúka

Myjava

Gazdovský dvor is a permanent exhibition in Turá Lúka, a borough of Myjava. It depicts the traditional way of life and housing in a typical scattered settlement homestead in the Myjava region from the end of the 19th century. A visit to the open-air museum, which consists of a sensitively restored building, will take you back in time to the period between 1900 and 1950. In the small house, you will see period folk costumes, implements, and various tools.

An interesting feature is that this is not a strictly static exhibition, but rather a "living" open-air museum. The homestead is cared for by a farmer and his wife, who treat travelers just as a proper homestead should, with herbal tea from their own garden, bread with lard, or a peasant meal cooked that very day. Almost the entire interior and exterior are authentic, donated to the exhibition by the residents of Myjava, Stará Myjava, Turá Lúka, Vrbovce, Brestovec, and other scattered settlement villages. Each donated item has its own age, story, and soul, preserving a piece of our ancestors' lives.

If you sit inside with the farmer's wife, you can try tying traditional Myjava headscarves. In the farm's yard, farm animals run around, a dog guards the domain, and a tomcat dozes on the windowsill, almost like in a fairytale. You might very well meet the master of the house while he is caring for the livestock. If you have the desire and courage, you can even lend him a hand. Next to the barn, the farmer even has work tools ready, such as sleighs, a wagon, a winnowing machine, a threshing machine, a chaff cutter, harrows, and various equipment.

Throughout the year, this unique open-air museum in Myjava allows you to experience genuine kopanice life thanks to regularly organized events. Traditional pig slaughtering, Easter whipping, barn floor threshing, a kopanice wedding, along with the opportunity to try on a traditional Myjava folk costume. During the harvest festival, a fair is prepared directly in and around Gazdovský dvor with demonstrations of traditional crafts, tastings of regional cuisine, and authentic harvest celebrations. Alongside this, you will watch demonstrations of traditional field work without the use of modern technology, and if you feel up to it, you can even sign up for a scythe-mowing competition. The Plum Day will introduce you to making plum dumplings, cooking traditional plum jam, and will even include a tasting of fruit brandy.

Are you drawn to the Myjava kopanice region? We are not surprised; it is a beautiful area that attracts more and more tourists every year who long to discover our cultural heritage and history. Book accommodation on the page accommodation Myjava and come explore the corners of our country that you may have only read about until now.
