Rybník Čechy Pallag

Čechy

The picturesque village named Čechy is located approximately within 10 kilometers south of the tourist-popular Termálne kúpalisko v Podhájskej. On the edge of the village, you can find a smaller pond named Pallag.

This artificial water reservoir, built in the last century, originally served the purpose of fish farming. Recreational sports fishing is precisely one of the main uses of this body of water. The depth of the water surface does not exceed 2 meters, and the area of the pond is just over 3 hectares. The sun-warmed waters and muddy bottom create a suitable environment for the reproduction of plankton needed for fish nutrition. The banks of the pond are lined with trees and shrubs. Here, you will find mainly poplars, willows, alders, and acacias. On hot summer days, they will provide you with shelter from the burning sun rays. If you do not mind mud and slightly murky water, you can also go for a swim in the pond and cool off your body. If you prefer cleaner water, a romantic walk around its surroundings might be enough for you. The rustle of leaves in the enchanting silence, observing the calm water surface, or watching waterfowl has a soothing effect.

The pond is also used in winter. During freezing days when its surface freezes over, it is popularity used not only by local residents for recreational ice skating, but also for other winter sports. Youth and adults alike enjoy playing hockey matches here until dusk. They groom the ice surface on their own using shovels and snow pushers. Even though the ice quality is not first-class, you can experience many beautiful moments here.

In the immediate vicinity of the pond, you will also find the local Lyžiarske stredisko Pallag ski resort. During favorable winter days, the pond serves as a water reservoir for artificial snowmaking. While the ski resort is operating, visitors also have at their disposal a small snack bar offering a basic selection of food and refreshments. It is precisely because of the shallow water depth that locals do not fear that the ice might break and someone could drown.

To enjoy the village of Čechy to the fullest, we recommend staying a bit longer. In summer, you can go horseback riding at Ranč Trilobit or plan your time according to your preferences. A morning swim has its own charm, so it is great to visit the pools of Termálne kúpalisko Podhájska. From there, you can regenerate your sport-weary bodies in its wellness center. Returning back to the village, you can also fit in a tour of Dom ľudového bývania Veľké Lovce along the way. If you choose a bicycle as your mode of transport, you have the opportunity to ride along the Náučný chodník Cyklopotulky medzi Žitavou a Hronom. In the winter season, you can brush up on your skiing skills at Lyžiarsky vlek Čechy Pallag.

Time is very precious, and so you do not have to spend it traveling, feel free to book accommodation near Rybník Pallag Čechy. Our hosts will gladly provide you with lodging, and you can wake up satisfied to new days. To save a bit on your budget, we recommend using private accommodation. You can enjoy your own privacy directly in cottages Čechy.

Termálne kúpalisko Podhájska

Podhájska

Do you long for the sea, but it seems too far away? Then do not hesitate to visit the thermal park in Podhájska. This Slovak unique gem has almost the exact same water composition as the Dead Sea. Therefore, you can treat yourself to a unique holiday utilizing all the positive effects of salty seawater. What is more, in a pleasant Southern Slovak environment.

The history of the thermal spring begins in 1973. A borehole nearly 2 kilometres deep aimed to find water usable for heating greenhouses. However, due to the spring's exceptional properties and its convenient location, it began to be used for recreational purposes. Pools, sanitary facilities, and changing rooms sprang up here very quickly. Later, a restaurant and a hotel were added as well. In the early 1990s, the facility underwent reconstruction. Since that period, the swimming pool area has been constantly expanding and refining its services and offerings.

The miraculous water in Podhájska reaches a temperature of almost 80 °C at the spring. For use, it is naturally diluted to a temperature of around 30 degrees. You can visit the thermal swimming pool complex at any time of year, with the exception of April. Bathing in an outdoor hot pool in the cold winter is certainly an unusual experience. In addition to perfect relaxation, the thermal salt water has a beneficial effect on various ailments. These mainly include musculoskeletal problems. Very good effects have also been recorded with skin conditions and respiratory tract diseases.

The swimming pool complex currently consists of several facilities. The recently opened wellness center Aquamarin features an outdoor and indoor pool world, a Turkish bath, and a botanical garden. The main indoor pool is equipped with numerous water attractions. Inside you will also find whirlpool pools and a children's pool. Part of the wellness center is the so-called Vital World. Its offer includes, for example, saunas, a water hell, or an icefall. The relaxation and reconditioning complex offers many complementary services. Here too, you will find saunas, a solarium, a fitness center, and even a hairdresser and cosmetics. You can also try hydrotherapy, electrotherapy, or massages. As for the pools themselves, the selection is very wide. There are two children's pools, two recreational pools, a sitting pool, pools with attractions and a water slide, a pool for swimmers, and a pool for non-swimmers.

If you get tired of the water, you can spend your time doing other activities. A playground with a sandbox awaits children. Adults can play soccer or volleyball on the sand court, or make use of the aforementioned massages, saunas, and fitness center. If you are lucky, the annual Slávnosti ľudových remesiel (Crafts Fair) might take place right at the time of your stay. Right above the village of Podhájska lie the ruins of an old monastery with a beautiful view of the surrounding landscape. The local village pond can also be the destination of a pleasant walk. The wider surroundings are also full of various interesting places. It is certainly worth seeing the arboretum near Tesárske Mlyňany or the stud farm in Nový Tekov. Complementing the water relaxation can be the salt cave in Starý Tekov. Interesting historical towns in this region are Nové Zámky, Nitra, and Levice.

Accommodation options in Podhájska are almost endless. You can stay in apartments and guesthouses, either directly within the pool area or in the village. A campsite and a chalet settlement with bungalows operate here as well. In the village, there is also a large number of private accommodation offers. The sea is the sea, but it is not accessible to everyone. And right for people who would like to make use of its healing effects, there is Termálne kúpalisko Podhájska. Here you can relax completely, go wild, and enjoy the summer, sun, water, and the healing power of sea minerals to your heart's content.

Dom ľudového bývania Veľké Lovce

Dom ľudového bývania Veľké Lovce

Veľké Lovce

Would you like to experience a realistic trip into the past? We recommend visiting the village of Veľké Lovce in the Nové Zámky district. The period homestead, Dom ľudového bývania Veľké Lovce, will reliably draw you into the life, housing, and work of our ancestors in the 19th and early 20th centuries. The small private museum is simultaneously proof of the skill and ingenuity of its owner, who renovated it with respect for cultural heritage and made it accessible to the public. Although the folk housing house regularly becomes the center of cultural events organized by the village, its owner and operator continues to be Mr. Galbavý. You can also arrange a tour of this charming homestead with him by phone.

The folk housing house presents a 57-meter-long farmhouse dating from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. However, it is assumed that the first walls of the house were built back in 1794. The original structure consists of unburnt sun-dried brick and clay. During the sensitive renovation, the owner consistently preserved both the period architecture and natural materials. This created a truly charming monument, a house with a unique atmosphere that currently serves as the seat of a small private museum. Part of the homestead is also a farmyard, pigsties, a chaff storage room, a stable, a barn, a cellar, an apiary, or a wattle sheep pen.

In the interior of the house, besides individual rooms and the kitchen with an open chimney, you can also view traditional furnishings, items of daily use, decorations, or working tools. You will find original kerosene lamps, old ceramics, beautiful folk embroideries, and a rare wooden chest from 1908. If you are lucky, you will catch one of the village's cultural events, for which the spaces of the clay structure become the venue. Carnival celebrations, traditional home pig slaughters, Easter markets, grape harvest festivals, or folklore celebrations regularly take place here. The property currently also includes a stage and a shelter for visitors.

You can combine time travel with horseback riding at the Trilobit ranch in the village of Čechy or with water relaxation at the sought-after thermal swimming pool Podhájska. In the winter season, you can enjoy perfect skiing at the Čechy Pallag resort. The offer of trip options and attractions here is truly diverse. Similarly varied is the offer of accommodation in the vicinity of Dom ľudového bývania Veľké Lovce. We recommend using the sought-after accommodation in Podhájska, from where diverse experiences will be just a stone's throw away.

Rotunda Dvanástich apoštolov

Rotunda Dvanástich apoštolov

Bíňa

The Romanesque rotunda with a circular floor plan and an internal apse stands on the site of a now-vanished Premonstratensian monastery complex in the village of Bíňa, in southern Slovakia. It is assumed that this sanctuary was built around 1200 and served as a baptistery, that is, a place for the baptism of adults. Its interior is decorated with magnificent frescoes from the 13th and 14th centuries. The unique architectural solution of the rotunda has no parallel in Slovakia. The inner walls are divided by twelve niches with semicircular endings, symbolizing the twelve messengers of God.

The cylindrical brick structure has an inner diameter of 720 cm, and its walls reach a thickness of up to one meter. The dome-shaped roof is topped with the apostolic double cross of Saint Stephen. The foundations of the rotunda are built from unusually carved quarry stones joined by lime mortar and clay containing brick fragments. Documents from 1683 mention that the sanctuary was severely damaged and fell into disrepair for more than 70 years. Its restoration began only in 1755, when it was modified into the Baroque style. Therefore, the dating of this unusual house of worship was debated for a long time. Its true Romanesque origin was discovered only by chance. Following the bombardment during World War II in 1945, the Baroque plaster fell off, revealing the original medieval masonry.

Shortly after the war, in 1954, the renovation of the original Romanesque elements began, along with a comprehensive heritage restoration. Romanesque windows were exposed, while the newer Baroque ones were bricked up. After removing the Baroque coating, Romanesque paintings of exceptionally high artistic and technical quality were revealed. These are preserved fragments of a fresco depicting a group of twelve apostles. The figures, approximately one meter tall, are rendered in delicate shades of pale ochre, gold ochre, grayish-green, light blue, and pink. The faces of God's heralds are noble, radiating deep spirituality. The restoration also uncovered part of a votive painting depicting an adoring knight, a crusader. Among the Romanesque architectural elements, the portal on the southeastern side, a circular window in the western part, and three slit windows facing east have been preserved in their original state.

The exterior plaster also underwent reconstruction, using the same smoothing technique applied during its original construction in the 12th century. To smooth the plaster, a metal tool heated in fire was used, which scorched the plaster with the hot metal. In 2006, archaeological research uncovered part of a Romanesque sculpture representing part of a lion's head, which presumably stood in front of the portal leading to the monastery church. Directly beneath the foundations, graves dating back to the Great Moravian era were discovered.

The complex includes the now non-existent Kaplnka sv. Kataríny and the twin-tower Gothic Kostol nanebovzatia Panny Márie. After exploring this unusual sacral structure, head straight to the pools of Termálne kúpalisko Vadaš and treat yourself to true summer refreshment. If you are already looking forward to your summer vacation, do not wait and book your accommodation near Rotunda dvanástich apoštolov today. The accommodation Bíňa page offers a variety of spacious cottages that can accommodate the whole family. And if you enjoyed the water park in Štúrovo, do not hesitate to search for private accommodations or apartments right in its immediate vicinity.
