Lesopark Háj-Nicovô

Lesopark Háj-Nicovô

Liptovský Mikuláš

On the Háj hill, which rises to an altitude of 748 m a.s.l. above the town of Liptovský Mikuláš, you will find Lesopark Háj-Nicovô. It is a popular cultural and recreational zone and a frequent visiting spot for locals, as its summit offers a beautiful panoramic view. You will see the Vysoké Tatry with the unmistakable Kriváň, the Západné Tatry, and the Chočské vrchy on the northwestern side. The western side reveals the Veľká Fatra, while the southern side reveals the ridge of the Nízke Tatry. The highlight of the view is an exceptional vista of Liptovský Mikuláš and the Liptovská Mara water reservoir.

The dominant feature of the summit is the military memorial and cemetery Háj-Nicovô. More than 1,350 fallen heroes rest here. Their graves are arranged along the sides of a monumental staircase. Right by the bottom steps are sculptures, one symbolizing peace and victory, the other depicting an oath to the battle flag. After reaching the top step, you arrive directly in front of the centerpiece of the memorial, a pylon with several reliefs and a five-pointed star at its top.

You can reach the top of Háj along the paved Cesta generála R. Kunu road, which is also known as Cesta hrdinov. Passanger cars and bicycles are permitted on it, but you will also find pedestrians and often mothers with strollers there. In winter, the road is not maintained. However, a forest route via the Príroda a krajina educational trail, which copies the Vojenská história trail, is very popular among locals. In addition to walking, exploring nature, and learning about history, there is much more to do at Háj. You can play sports or spend time with children at an original wooden playground, and you can also find the first Slovak eco-friendly clay target shooting range here.

The Príroda a krajina educational trail is 1.3 km long, has an elevation gain of 140 m, and is marked with a green hiking trail marker. The ascent to Háj via this trail represents a walk along a deep-sea floor. More than 45 million years ago, Liptov was submerged under the sea, as evidenced by various fossils. In the insect hotel, you can admire the fascinating world of insects; however, on the way to it, you will first pass through a mixed forest with a rare specimen, a black poplar that is over 100 years old. The end of the trail is a sweet finishing touch, as there are stairs of time located there. They show a cross-section of the geological bedrock of the Liptovská kotlina basin, going back to 460 million years ago.

The Vojenská história educational trail is 0.47 km long and is a flat walk along a red hiking trail marker. Educational boards inform about troops and weapons, as well as the subsequent restoration of the devastated territory, as bloody battles of World War II took place here. The memorial area, to which the educational trail leads, was made accessible in 1961 along with the memorial and cemetery. It is the final resting place of battle victims, and since 2018, it has also served as a Pomník novodobým vojnovým veteránom (Monument to Modern War Veterans). This stands as a tribute to soldiers who died while fulfilling duty assignments in foreign missions and operations.

You can also run up to the summit of Háj; there are even two routes named after well-known Slovak athletes and natives of Liptovský Mikuláš. The blue route of whitewater slalom canoeist Michal Martikán is 5.3 km long with an elevation gain of 175 m. The yellow route of alpine skier Petra Vlhová is 3.3 km long with an elevation gain of 140 m. Both routes are classified as moderately demanding. A regional cycling route also passes through the area.

Being in Liptov means being surrounded by beautiful nature and many opportunities for activities. Lesopark Háj-Nicovô offers you amazing views, an easy hike, and the chance to discover another chapter of our history. The accommodation page Liptovský Mikuláš will take care of your stay, while the trip tips page Liptov will provide options for how to spend your free time during your visit.

Visitor information

This original and playful attraction is an ideal choice for families with children, couples, groups of friends, or school trips looking for an unusual experience and fun snapshots for joint photos. The tour itself takes about 20 to 30 minutes and is physically undemanding, although due to the sloped floors and optical illusions, people more sensitive to balance changes may experience mild dizziness. Due to its specific construction and tilted interior, however, the place is not barrier-free, meaning that entry is not suitable for visitors with reduced mobility and movement with a wheelchair or baby stroller is not possible, and entry with a dog is also not recommended due to the nature of the space.

Access, services, and surroundings

The Dom hore nohami is located by the main road in Liptovský Mikuláš, just a few minutes from the well-known water park. Access is easy both by car and on foot, and there is a parking lot (paid) in the surrounding area. After about three quarters of an hour, you will arrive at your destination. The waterfall is located less than 100 m from the road. You do not have to worry about missing this natural beauty. In front of the waterfall stands a hunting cabin that welcomes you to this sought-after attraction with its motto "Hore zdar!". The approach to the waterfall has an uphill character, but your reward will be the Stará voda stream falling from a height of 12 m. A small pool has formed beneath the rocky cliff down which the waterfall flows. Although the icy water may initially deter you, believe that after a walk, especially on hot summer days, a quick dip is a great refreshment. The braver ones can enjoy the power of a mountain shower directly under the waterfall. In winter, the swift flow of water turns into a massive icefall. The snow-covered and frozen surrounding nature holds a unique charm. So do not forget to bring a sled for your walk, which you will especially use on the return trip and the gentle descent back to Bobrovecká Vápenica.

Cyclists can continue along a popular cycling route that will take you all the way to the village of Liptovské Matiašovce. Hikers on foot will return along the same route. Halfway between Bobrovecká Vápenica and the village of Bobrovec stands the traditional Salaš Pastierska. Stop for a moment and, in addition to traditional products such as cheeses, bryndza (sheep milk cheese), or žinčica (boiled sheep whey), enjoy the peaceful nature. Right above Bobrovec, you can stop by a small but popular water reservoir. Originally, the reservoir served to irrigate the surrounding fields. The Bejvoč water reservoir, as the locals nickname it, has been used for swimming for a few decades, although bathing is at your own risk. Rich greenery and the murmur of the mountain Jalovecký potok, which is the source of clean and refreshing water in the reservoir, predestine this place for relaxation and rest.

If natural water does not appeal to you and you would rather enjoy thermal springs, visit the most famous water park, Tatralandia, located less than 10 minutes by car from Bobrovec. A multitude of pools and water attractions guarantee a well-spent day. For adrenaline enthusiasts, we have an interesting tip: try flying in the wind tunnel at Hurricane Factory Tatralandia, located right next to the water park. Families with children can look forward to ZOOKONTAKT, which guarantees that you will not be bored here.

So, have you already planned your trip itinerary? Are you looking for accommodation near Poľovníkov vodopád? Choose from our selection of cozy cottages or wooden cabins, or find your comfort in one of the apartments. Book your stay and enjoy everything a holiday in Liptov has to offer.

Medvedia štôlňa

Medvedia štôlňa

Žiar (okres Liptovský Mikuláš)

Medvedia štôlňa in Žiarska dolina is the only old mining site in Liptov that is open to the public. Žiarska dolina is located at the end of the village of Žiar in the Liptovský Mikuláš district, in the Západné Tatry mountains. It is one of the most visited valleys in Liptov, both in summer and in winter.

The adit ranks among the rarities of old mining works in the Tatras. Its length is up to 550 m, making it the longest among them. It was officially opened to the public in 2012 and has since belonged among the very popular Liptov attractions. Given that the mine follows a quartz vein, it is assumed that precious metals, likely gold, were once mined here.

The name may confuse some. It is not called "bear" because it used to be a bear's den. For a long time, a tourist information board stood near its entrance warning that visitors were entering an area where bears occur in abundance. And because the board and the entrance to the mine were indeed close to each other, the name of the adit was clear.

During a visit to the underground, various emotions will sweep through you, and you will take away a lifelong experience. Moving by the light of a burning oil lamp, feeling the cold and humidity, hearing the echo of every step and rustle—it is simply something unique. Absolutely all your senses will awaken.

For children, setting out into the land of the legendary underground realm Aghartha is a great experience. One of the stops is right in Medvedia štôlňa in Žiar, near St. Barbara, the patron saint of miners. Collect a coin, a confirmation for your map, and off you go to other parts of the fairy-tale land. Netopierikovo, Mincovníčkovo, and Permoníkovo are still waiting for you. It is great fun full of adventures.

You can get almost all the way to the adit by car, parking approximately 200 m from its entrance. If the article caught your interest, we recommend booking accommodation near Medvedia štôlňa right away. Get inspired, for example, on the page accommodation Žiar or accommodation Liptovský Mikuláš; both locations are very good starting points for a trip. Moreover, attractions in Liptov are each better than the last. Whether you want to rest, hike up hills, relax by swimming in warm water, enjoy great skiing, or learn interesting information in a museum, you will experience all of this in this place. Liptov has almost unlimited options for fun.

Hiking is one of the most popular sports in our country. It can be enjoyed by everyone, regardless of age or fitness level. All you need to do is choose a suitable route, and the beauty of nature will captivate anyone. We are fortunate to live in a country so rich in natural beauty that the whole world can envy us. One of the many stunning places is the Západné Tatry mountains, a range that is often unjustly overlooked.

Nestled directly beneath rocky peaks rising over two thousand meters lies the small village of Jakubovany. You can find it in the Liptov region, just a few kilometers north of Liptovský Hrádok.

Right by the village lies the Jakubovany Studená dolina - Bane ski resort. It will be appreciated especially by less demanding skiers or beginners who prefer quality skiing, breathtaking surroundings, and affordable prices. You will find all of this right in this resort at the foot of the Západné Tatry mountains.

The resort is situated at an altitude of 791 to 896 meters above sea level. Its gentle slope makes it ideal for novice skiers. They can look forward to three blue slopes with a total length of 1,700 meters. Jakubovany relies mainly on natural snow. However, given its location close to the Západné Tatry, snow is rarely an issue here. Two ski lifts, 300 meters and just over 500 meters long, take care of skier transportation. They have sufficient capacity, so you won't stand in line and can ski virtually without interruption.

The best thing about the Jakubovany Studená dolina ski resort, however, is its location, as you ski with views of the entire Nízke Tatry range, as well as the Baranec and Kriváň peaks. Not many resorts can offer you such a view. After a rewarding day on the slopes, you can enjoy refreshments at the nearby bar, which offers everything that belongs to a great skiing experience.

Every visitor will find something to love in Jakubovany. Let's start with the least demanding activities. The picturesque Studená dolina valley begins near the village and is perfect for walks after a good lunch. The Trnovec brook flows through it, and its bubbling water provides a great way to cool off, especially in summer. Jakubovany is a popular starting point for hikes to the Žiarska chatu mountain hut. A comfortable paved road leads here, and near the hut, you will find a symbolic cemetery, while inside the hut, delicious treats await. After recharging your batteries, the fittest hikers can head up to Baníkov or Baranec. These are challenging hikes that all alpine hiking enthusiasts will enjoy. Very few places in Slovakia offer such opportunities for active relaxation as Jakubovany.

The wider surroundings of Jakubovany offer even more. From the village, every interesting spot in Liptov is just a stone's throw away. We present just a few interesting trip ideas, though this is by no means an exhaustive list. In nearby Pribylina, you will find a fairy-tale open-air museum, from Podbanské you can enjoy an adrenaline-pumping rafting trip, and you can recharge at the stylish restaurant located in the castle in Liptovský Hrádok. Nearby lies Liptovský Ján, known primarily for its thermal pool. The region's largest town is Liptovský Mikuláš, home to the modern Tatralandia water park. The drive to Slovakia's largest ski resort, Jasná, takes just a few minutes from Jakubovany. However, there are many other resorts in the area waiting for your visit.

Jakubovany offers pleasant accommodation in traditional wooden cottages, private rentals, or a well-equipped guesthouse. All types of accommodation are represented, giving you plenty to choose from. Termálny prameň Kaďa Liptovský Ján

Liptovský Ján

Visit the popular natural wellness spot at Termálny prameň Kaďa in Liptovský Ján. This natural gem is situated directly in the heart of Liptov, in the tourist-popular village of Liptovský Ján. The water temperature here ranges from 20 – 24 °C, and you can enjoy its beneficial power completely free of charge. It has a healing effect on skin diseases, the musculoskeletal system, and many others. You will certainly hear many stories about its miraculous effects directly in the spring from its regular visitors, who enjoy the healthy bubbles every day of the year. They are mostly people over 60, whose age you would never guess, however.

The area of Termálny prameň Kaďa is located at the end of the village, with the Štiavnica stream flowing along its edge. Both children and adults will enjoy it here. It is one of many thermal springs that rise in this village. The strongest spring rises in a circular crater with a gravel bottom, which is protected by rocky limestone cliffs. The water will initially seem lukewarm, or even cold, to you. After a while, however, you will feel the gentle tingling of sulfur bubbles on your skin, and it will pleasantly improve blood circulation. The spring will thus show you its strength and healing effects on tissues and joints. Do not stay in it for too long, however; the recommended duration of the treatment is 20 minutes.

In the adjacent smaller pool, which is more spacious and shallower, you can add a few swimming strokes to your health treatment. Visitors also tend to sit on its groomed edges and thus give their tired legs some relaxation. Children will have fun in the pool, especially in the summer months, while you wait in line to enter the spring. The more courageous ones can immerse themselves in the cold stream before relaxing in the spring. Enthusiasts of cold-water swimming regularly build a dam there, and the cold water thus envelops your entire body. This has two advantages. You will strengthen your health, and the water in the spring will seem warm to you right from the start. After a great bath, taste a sip of water from the Teplica spring, which will be poured for you with love by Janko Svätojánsky. This wooden relic was created under the hands of a skilled local woodcarver. It is said about this water that its regular drinking brings longevity and beauty. If you get hungry or have a craving for a real "rezané" beer, you will be served with a smile in the buffet next door during the summer months.

Health and beauty emanate from the springs in Liptovský Ján. Come to see for yourself and plan your rest in Liptov. Ski centrum Zverovka - Spálená dolina

Zuberec

Vysoké Tatry have Tatranská Lomnica and Štrbské Pleso. Nízke Tatry have Jasná. These are modern and relatively extensive ski resorts designed for all groups of skiers. Can the Západné Tatry compete with them? Thanks to the Zverovka – Spálená dolina ski resort, we can answer affirmatively.

It is located in the middle of the beautiful and majestic Západné Tatry, the Roháče. You can get directly under the slopes by car, but if the parking lot is full, you can leave your vehicle near the Chata Zverovka and Chata Osobitá chalets. The Zverovka – Spálená ski resort lies in Spálená dolina under Salatín, one of the most beautiful peaks of the Západné Tatry. Overall, the resort is located in perhaps the most picturesque environment, and rest assured that live it is even more beautiful than in photos.

Zverovka – Spálená is a unique resort precisely because of the composition of its slopes. It can accommodate all skiers because there are slopes of every category. Children can ski on an easy trail, parents on an intermediate one, and those who want more can head to the black, most demanding slope.

Right at the entrance to the resort, there are two of the total three ski lifts. These lifts serve the blue, least demanding slopes. For steeper slopes, you have to head higher up, but we guarantee it will be worth it. From the nearly 1.5 km long chairlift, fantastic views of the Roháče massif and Salatín open up. You will feel as if you were somewhere in the Alps. From the top station of the chairlift, an intermediate section leads down. In this section, there is also a nearly 900-meter long ski lift. At the end of the resort's longest slope, you can choose a less steep alternative or a challenging black slope.

The entire resort is regularly maintained and groomed. Natural snow is left only on the black section of the slope. Naturally, artificial snowmaking is available, thanks to which even mild frosts are enough to ensure plenty of snow in Zverovka – Spálená. On 5 kilometers of slopes, you won't have time to get bored.

Absolute beginners can learn to ski in the ski school or snowboard in the snowboard school. In Zverovka – Spálená, they truly think of everyone. Among the resort's other facilities, we can mention restaurants with quality cuisine or snack bars offering many quick specialties.

Accommodation options are also diverse. Despite the location high in the mountains, you have plenty to choose from. Right by the slope lies a tourist lodge, but extremely cozy cottages are also available. In the wider surroundings, numerous private rentals or increasingly popular apartments are scattered in the nearby villages of Zuberec and Habovka. Regardless of your preferences, you will find your "best" fit.

Vodný park Bešeňová

Bešeňová

In the Liptov region, near the towns of Ružomberok and Liptovský Mikuláš, lies the picturesque village of Bešeňová. The village of Bešeňová is known primarily for its mineral springs. There are even fourteen mineral springs within its territory. The mineral waters you will find here are rich in calcium, magnesium, sodium, potassium, iron, manganese, and various other minerals. Due to this high mineral content, the water from these springs is brownish-red, and their surroundings are also colored in shades of brownish-red.

A very interesting attraction for vacationers in the village are the Bešeňovské travertíny (travertines), which are very similar to the Mammoth Cascades located in Turkey. The Bešeňovské travertíny even rank among the most interesting in Europe. They are located on the northern side of the village, where streams of mineral water flow over unusual cascades.

This spa village enjoys the interest of vacationers primarily thanks to the Bešeňová water park. You will find an aquapark here, which includes hot thermal springs.

In Gino Paradise (the old name of the water park), you will not only enjoy pleasant rest and relaxation, but the mineral springs will also help you with movement, digestive, and respiratory problems. You have a number of pools at your disposal, where, in addition to the healing water, you will also enjoy plenty of fun. You will find jets that imitate wild, turbulent water, underwater benches or loungers, and a popular water mushroom. A great advantage of this thermal park is its year-round operation, so you can enjoy a pleasant, warming atmosphere even in the colder months. Massages, which you can undergo here, or saunas, of which there is a wide selection, also contribute to the rest and relaxation of vacationers. An interesting feature that will certainly catch your attention is the Zlaté kreslo (Golden Chair) made of 24-karat gold. You certainly won't be bored by the number of attractions and events that Gino Paradise Bešeňová organizes. You can even do spinning or Zumba by the pools.

During your holiday in this region, you can also go to the nearby Demänovská jaskyňa (cave). For lovers of hiking, there are wide possibilities for hiking here thanks to the rugged region. Tourist trails will take you to the Kvačianska dolina (valley), Prosiecka dolina (valley), or into the Chočské vrchy mountains, from where you have the opportunity to climb up to Veľký Choč. A very popular route is the path to Liptovský hrad castle from the village of Kalameny, or the route to the ruins of Likavský hrad castle.

Accommodation is offered directly in the water park complex by hotels and hostels. If you have decided on a holiday full of rest, relaxation, and repose, Gino Paradise Bešeňová will fulfill your expectations. Demänovská jaskyňa slobody

Demänovská jaskyňa slobody

Demänovská Dolina

Liptov takes the breath away of thousands of tourists with its beauty. Majestic mountains, fun in Slovakia's best water parks, skiing like in the Alps, or airborne adrenaline. And there is also something to be found below the surface. The longest cave system in Slovakia, which includes Demänovské jaskyne. Let us introduce the most famous one, Demänovská jaskyňa slobody.

You will find this most visited cave in the country just a few kilometres from Liptovský Mikuláš. It lies in Demänovská dolina, which leads to the largest ski resort, Jasná. So you will find nothing but superlatives here.

A trail with educational panels leads to the cave. You might get a little out of breath, but you will be able to rest while gathering information about the history and opening of the cave to the public, as well as about other caves in Slovakia. After the ascent, refreshments in the form of a snack bar will be waiting for you.

The history of opening the cave to the public dates back to 1921, when the first cavers entered it. It happened in an unconventional way, beneath the water surface. Specifically through the lowest sinkhole of the Demänovka stream. The first lighting in the cave was installed just 2 years later, and the first visitors could enjoy its beauty starting in 1924. Since then, newly discovered sections have been continuously connected to the route.

The cave decorations are breathtaking. It is the most varied cave in the entire cave system. Unique features include flowstone water lilies and other forms of karst relief created by the activity of water, such as small cave pearls. There is an underground lake bearing the name Veľké jazero. Its length is up to 52 metres and its width ranges from 5 to 12 metres. Famous areas include Veľký dóm, Jánošíkov dóm, and Ružová sieň. The dripstones in the cave are still growing; those in Veľký dóm grow at a rate of about 2 mm per 10 years. A figure imperceptible to the human eye, yet proof that the cave is still active.

The temperature in the cave fluctuates between 6–7 °C. Prepare for this knowing that you will spend at least an hour underground. The tour along the shorter circuit, measuring 1,150 metres, takes exactly one hour. However, we recommend the tour along the longer circuit, which is 2,150 metres long and takes 100 minutes. It will take you to the most beautiful places of Demänovská jaskyňa slobody, which you cannot reach during the short circuit. Mainly Veľký dóm, the largest accessible underground space in Slovakia, and Ružová sieň.

Underground worlds fascinate many. Liptov and Demänovská dolina in particular offer many opportunities to explore them. Demänovská jaskyňa slobody offers the longest accessible route in Slovakia, and you will enjoy more than enough on it. If it still isn't enough for you, in the very same valley you will find the no less famous Demänovská ľadová jaskyňa. Afterwards, you can head to Chopok or take a ride on the bobsleigh track in Pavčiná Lehota.

You can stay very close by in Demänovská dolina. Here you will find mostly traditional wooden cottages, mountain hotels, as well as the most luxurious hotels for demanding guests. Numerous apartment houses are popular, where you can rent your own fully equipped apartment at various price points for all kinds of clients.

Demänovská ľadová jaskyňa

Demänovská ľadová jaskyňa

Demänovská Dolina

Slovakia is exceptionally rich in caves considering its size. The number of registered caves and chasms has already reached approximately 6,700. Demänovská ľadová jaskyňa is part of the longest cave system in Slovakia, which has a total length of almost 36 km.

Demänovská ľadová jaskyňa is one of the oldest in Europe. Its existence has been documented as early as 1299. It is located near the road leading through Demänovská dolina. If you have ever been to Jasná, you have surely passed right by it. And believe us, it is well worth stopping by.

The cave is unique due to its ice decoration. Intriguingly, just 500 years ago, it was a regular dripstone cave. After the collapse of certain passages and the prevention of air circulation, conditions were created in the cave for the formation of ice. In 1885, a shelter was built near the cave, and the first tourists began visiting it. However, it was not heavily visited; the years 1950–1952 were more significant, when electric lighting was installed. During these years, concerns grew over preserving the ice cover, as the reconstruction damaged the cave and air began circulating inside again. This threatened to melt the ice sheet. Fortunately, the issues were resolved.

An educational trail with interesting information boards leads to the cave. Right before entering the cave, you will become acquainted with the Nízke Tatry National Park and its flora and fauna. The tour route inside the cave is 650 meters long with an elevation gain of 48 m. The tour will take you three quarters of an hour. Dress warmly, due to the ice decoration, the temperature inside stays just above freezing year-round. If you can brave the cold, the cave will reward you with an unprecedented spectacle. Underground, you will admire stalactites and stalagmites, as well as floor ice and ice pillars, which are at their most massive during the spring months.

Eight species of bats have been recorded in the cave. The discovery of bones belonging to the cave bear and other vertebrates proves that it was sought after by animals even in the distant past.

Demänovská dolina is full of other attractions. After exploring Demänovská ľadová jaskyňa, you can head to the neighboring Demänovská jaskyňa slobody. Continuing up the valley, you will reach Jasná, the largest ski resort in Slovakia. But you will not be bored here in summer either. The cable car will take you up to the peak of Chopok, and from there, for instance, to Hotel Srdiečko, which is just a hop away from another famous cave Jaskyňa Mŕtvych netopierov.

You can find accommodation directly in the village of Demänovská Dolina or in nearby Pavčiná Lehota. Both are fully prepared for the influx of tourists, and finding your own chalet or a room in a cozy guesthouse will not be a problem. Private homestays are also booming, and you can stay in almost every house. The advantage of such accommodation is its extremely favorable price. You do not have to go on vacation just for skiing or water, but also to discover underground beauty, and you will hardly find more of it than in Demänovská dolina.

Sivý vrch

Sivý vrch

Zuberec

Sivý vrch is an impressive rocky peak in the Západné Tatry mountains. It is accessible from Bobrovecká dolina in Liptov or from the villages of Zuberec or Huty in Orava. Thanks to its rocky surface, it is considered one of the most beautiful peaks in this part of the Tatras.

Sivý vrch lies at an altitude of 1,805 m above sea level. Here, you will find over 500 species of plants, some of which are truly rare, as they do not occur anywhere else in Slovakia. For example, carnations (pinks), saffron, and gentians grow here. The geomorphological structure and rugged relief make Sivý vrch a paradise for botanists. If you set out for Sivý vrch from the Orava side, it will take you less time. From the village of Huty, the journey to the summit will take you approximately 2.5 hours. Start your hike from the forester's lodge below Biela skala, which is the starting point for many trails in the Západné Tatry mountains.

A steep climb will take you to the crags above Hutnianske sedlo. Here, according to legend, you might discover Jánošík's hidden treasure. Even if you don't find it, no worries. The treasure for you will be the views in all directions, as the path to Sivý vrch continues along the ridge. On this route, you will pass Radové skaly. An interesting natural phenomenon reminiscent of human figures. All the way to the top of Sivý vrch, you will tackle an elevation gain of over 1,000 vertical meters.

An alternative ascent to Sivý vrch is from the Liptov side from the village of Bobrovec, or Jalovec. From the parking lot at Bobrovecká vápenica, you will first head along an asphalt road. Right at the beginning, you can admire the rock faces of the peaks Mních and Sokol. The hiking trail will then lead you to Chata pod Náružím. The residents of Bobrovec value it greatly because it was built with their own hands by local volunteers, and almost every family in Bobrovec contributed to it. Today, it is managed by the municipality, and local hut keepers rotate there. This route is somewhat longer. You will reach Sivý vrch in approximately 4 hours. On the way down, you can also make a loop over the peak Babky (1,566 m a.s.l.), which is particularly popular with photographers due to its panoramic views.

In both cases, the hike can be managed by intermediate hikers. However, such a trip is not entirely suitable for small children due to the length of the route, steep sections, loose rock near the top, and, in the case of the ascent from the Orava side, several chains. Therefore, do not forget sturdy footwear, plenty of fluids, and be sure to check the weather forecast before the hike. In the rain, the trails are very slippery and sections can be dangerous. During sunny weather, however, you will not be able to get enough of the surrounding beauty.

Majestic Sivý vrch is a dominant feature of the Západné Tatry mountains and a popular destination for tourists. If you are a hiking enthusiast, we have prepared more tips for peaks in the Tatras for you. It is definitely worth spending a vacation in this area. Our portal will take care of accommodation. We offer you quality accommodation in the Západné Tatry mountains, and you will certainly also find accommodation near Sivý vrch. Čerenová skala

Čerenová skala

Liptovská Anna

Čerenová skala above the village of Liptovská Anna represents one of the most impressive viewpoint spots in the Liptov region, opening up a breathtaking panorama of Liptovská Mara and the surrounding mountain ranges to visitors from a monumental rock plateau.

The location is situated above the village of Liptovská Anna, in the district of Liptovský Mikuláš, on the southern edge of Chočské vrchy. The rock itself is in fact a mesa with an expansive and relatively flat summit plateau, which ends in a steep rock cliff several tens of meters high. The ascent to the top leads through picturesque meadows and steeper forest sections, with the reward for the effort being a unique view of the water surface of Liptovská Mara, the ridge of Nízke Tatry, part of Západné Tatry, and Choč. A wooden double cross is mounted on the summit, giving the place a reverent and symbolic character, along with benches inviting visitors to spend longer observing the surrounding landscape. Thanks to its location and orientation, Čerenová skala is a popular spot especially during sunrises and sunsets, when the light creates an unrepeatable color display on the rock walls and the reservoir surface. The entire area retains its natural character without significant infrastructure development, which will be appreciated especially by tourists seeking an escape from busy mountain resorts into the silence of the Liptov hills.

What can you find here?

At the top, you will find a spacious rock plateau with a wooden double cross and benches for rest. Information elements marking the direction to prominent peaks in the panorama and several prepared viewpoint spots on the edge of the cliff are available. The access trail from the village is marked and leads past the ruins of a historical church, which completes the atmosphere of the location.

Who is the place suitable for?

The location is ideal for moderately fit hikers and families with older children who can handle a short but intense climb through forest terrain. It is sought after mainly by landscape photographers and lovers of silence who prefer the less frequented trails of Chočské vrchy over the main tourist arteries of the Tatras. Caution is required for safe movement on the rock plateau, especially near the edges of the cliff, as well as sturdy hiking boots suitable for uneven terrain.

What can you visit in the area?

Directly at the foot of the hill in the village of Liptovská Anna, you can view the picturesque ruins of the Romanesque-Gothic church Kostolík svätej Anny. Within close reach are the popular Prosiecka dolina and Kvačianska dolina, which rank among the most beautiful gorges in Slovakia, or the unique archaeological site Havránok above Liptovská Mara. For relaxation after a hike, thermal pools in Bešeňová or the Tatralandia water park near Liptovský Mikuláš are available.

Ski Žiarce - Pavčina Lehota

Pavčina Lehota

Liptov, perhaps the most popular region in Slovakia. However, it is not just about sheep cheese strings (korbáčiky), summer hiking, and relaxing in thermal waters. Every year, Liptov attracts winter sports enthusiasts to its diverse slopes, where every skier will find something to their liking. It is the Žiarce ski resort in the village of Pavčina Lehota. It offers a family atmosphere, a welcoming approach, and quality skiing at good prices. Where can you find it? Just a few kilometres south of Liptovský Mikuláš, near the road leading into Demänovská dolina. The resort lies on the edge of the village of Pavčina Lehota and offers views across a large part of Liptov.

You may have already heard of Pavčina Lehota. It is home to the longest mountain bobsleigh track in Slovakia, which attracts tourists mainly during the summer. In winter, the slopes above Pavčina Lehota become a sought-after ski resort.

The ski resort is located at an altitude ranging from 760 to 907 metres above sea level. The best thing about the Žiarce resort is the fact that it offers skiing for all difficulty levels. Here you will find 4 ski lifts, thanks to which you can forget about long lines and ski from morning to evening almost without a break.

The total length of the ski slopes is 1,130 metres. These are divided among all difficulty levels. In the lower section, there are two lifts intended exclusively for beginners. Easy blue slopes are available for them, where they can learn their first metres on skis under the supervision of ski instructors.

For everyone else, two additional lifts are available. The shorter one also offers the option of a descent along a blue slope, while the longer one is for more experienced skiers. The upper part of this slope is even designated black and, thanks to its incline, presents a challenge even for seasoned skiers.

Naturally, in the ski resort you will find a snack bar, a ski school, artificial snowmaking, and on certain days of the week, you even have the option of night skiing. What could be better after a good dinner than a few more hours of skiing on the slope?

Liptov offers many natural sights and attractions. One of the largest is just a stone's throw away from Pavčina Lehota. It is Demänovská dolina with Slovakia's most beautiful caves, Demänovská ľadová jaskyňa and Demänovská jaskyňa slobody.

Pavčina Lehota is also a popular starting point for more well-known ski resorts. During the tourist season, you will meet many other tourists here. Just like them, you can choose accommodation in one of the many hotels, guesthouses, private rentals, apartments, or chalets, from which it will be a stone's throw to the slope. Drevený artikulárny kostol Svätý Kríž

Drevený artikulárny kostol Svätý Kríž

Svätý Kríž

Drevený artikulárny evanjelický kostol in Svätý Kríž belongs among the largest wooden structures in Central Europe. It is located in Liptov, on the border of the cadastral areas of the villages of Svätý Kríž and Lazisko, in the district of Liptovský Mikuláš. Thanks to its capacity of almost 6,000 visitors, it ranks among frequently visited monuments. Divine services are held here regularly.

The church has an interesting 43 m long cross-shaped floor plan. It was originally built in 1693 in Paludza, but between 1974 and 1982 it was relocated to Svätý Kríž, where a ceremonial consecration subsequently took place in August 1982. The church in Svätý Kríž is the final artistic expression of Slovak wooden architecture, and it is no exaggeration to write that it is likely also the most significant. In the interior, you will be immediately captivated by the wooden Baroque altar dating from 1693, featuring a painting of the Transfiguration of Christ. The pulpit is also considered unique, standing on a log base right next to a Baroque angel that appears to support it. Both of these gems, the altar and the pulpit, are the work of the Kežmarok woodcarver J. Lerch.

The extraordinary atmosphere of the place is complemented by the ceiling. Two-story choir galleries decorated with biblical paintings, along with a Venetian glass chandelier, create perfect harmony and fit flawlessly into the church's interior. The organ and a stone baptismal font are additional indispensable parts of the interior. In the exterior, an inseparable pair with the church is formed by the belfry, consisting of a freestanding wooden tower. It was added only later, in 1781. New bells were installed in the tower between 1921 and 1922.

You do not have to be a believer to have something to be thankful for. Believe us, giving thanks for your family, health, food, a roof over your head, work, or anything else that comes to mind assumes a completely different dimension when spoken in this church. And if the rays of the setting sun caress the beautiful Baroque furnishings inside at that moment, you will believe in miracles. The swell of emotion meeting at such a moment feels like magic.

You simply have to experience that feeling for yourself. Book accommodation near Drevený artikulárny kostol Svätý Kríž, for instance on the accommodation in Svätý Kríž or accommodation in Liptovský Mikuláš page, and come discover Liptov from a different angle. This picturesque region offers numerous sacral monuments and hiking opportunities; their advantage is also that they are available almost year-round and in most cases completely free of charge. A holiday in Slovakia does not have to be expensive at all, and yet you might experience the adventure of your life right here.

Hrad Liptovský Hrádok

Hrad Liptovský Hrádok

Liptovský Hrádok

Are you a history lover? Do you enjoy visiting castles and chateaux? It is not said for nothing that Slovakia is a land of castles. Historians state that there are 425 manor houses and 180 castles and chateaux in Slovakia. Perhaps the most beautiful one in Liptov is Hrad a Kaštieľ Liptovský Hrádok. Forget the mundanity of everyday life for a moment and become a brave knight or a lady of the castle. We invite you to a castle and manor house that has been welcoming its visitors since 2010.

Set out on a journey back in time and uncover the old secrets of the castle. Discover secret castle corridors and solve the riddle hidden in the castle courtyard. Do not miss the guided tour led by the owner herself, castle lady Dagmar. Let yourself be drawn into history and transport yourself to the life that prevailed in the 14th century during the 45-minute tour. Since 2018, the “Komnata hradného kastelána” and the staircase tower, which will provide you with a magnificent view all the way to Kriváň, have also been accessible. Tickets can be purchased directly at the cash desk before the tour begins.

In the first written record from 1341, the castle is mentioned under the name Wywar, while in later records it is already listed as Novum Castrum, Nový Hrad. Since then, it has gone through many changes and owners. The first owner and at the same time the founder of the castle was Master Donč, the head of Zvolen County. Another significant figure was Baron Valentín Balaša, who owned the castle between 1554 and 1600 and, together with his brother František, took care of the restoration of the castle walls. Another interesting ruler was Magdaléna Zai, who, together with her second husband Mikuláš Šándorfy, had the Renaissance palace and the surrounding estate buildings constructed. She was married five times and each of her husbands died after 4 years of marriage. They reportedly all died of natural causes. The last living owner, already the 56th in line, is Mrs. Dagmar Machová. She began to gradually restore the abandoned, dilapidated, and ruined spaces. Reconstruction work on the entire complex has been ongoing from 2002 to the present day. As a national cultural monument, the area of Hrad a Kaštieľ represents an important part of the cultural heritage, and its individual parts are slowly being restored and made accessible to the public.

One of the ancient legends says that the castle was once connected by extensive underground corridors with the fortification in Liptovský Ján. During the anti-Habsburg uprisings in 1622, the Holy Crown of Saint Stephen was temporarily stored at the castle.

Are you planning a wedding or celebrating an important anniversary? Delight the hearts of your loved ones and organize a celebration for them in grandiose style at this magnificent place steeped in history. The wedding reception and party can take place in the premises of the manor house or directly in the courtyard. The castle kitchen will take care of the gastronomic experience and fulfill even your most secret wishes. The romantic Magdaléna Zai Apartment awaits the newlyweds. The wedding photoshoot by the castle pond will certainly also be unforgettable, allowing you to preserve the memory of this significant day.

Lyžiarske stredisko Račkova dolina

Lyžiarske stredisko Račkova dolina

Pribylina

High mountains are made for hikers, skiers, and all nature lovers in general. One of our most famous mountain ranges is Západné Tatry. Its high peaks are exceptionally attractive to tourists from all over Slovakia. Climbing peaks such as Baníkov or Ostrý Roháč is a dream for many. And right beneath these peaks, you will find the picturesque Račkova dolina, where you can enjoy great skiing.

The valley is located in Západné Tatry. Since Račkova dolina is a popular recreational resort, access to it is very easy. Just a short distance away is the village of Pribylina, known primarily for its famous open-air museum, featuring a tour of traditional dwellings and crafts of the Liptov region's inhabitants.

The beginning of the valley sits at an altitude of 960 meters above sea level, with the top of the resort reaching 1,100 meters above sea level. The ski resort itself is not among the largest or most famous. And that is precisely a huge asset for skiers. You won't find crowds of people, overcrowded slopes, or lines at the ski lifts here.

A pair of ski lifts and a pair of slopes await you here. They are designed for a wide spectrum of skiers, mainly due to the medium difficulty profile of the trails. Their total length is 1.4 km, and the entire resort is equipped with an artificial snowmaking system.

The foothills of Západné Tatry are interesting for more than just downhill skiers. For cross-country skiers, long kilometers of groomed trails are available.

It goes without saying that the ski resort includes supplementary services such as a refreshment kiosk, ski equipment rental, and a comprehensive range of accommodation services.

The nature here is truly beautiful. In the immediate vicinity, there is no shortage of high-quality services and attractions for everyone. A good tip for a trip around Liptov is, for example, Demänovské jaskyne. This region is exceptionally welcoming to relaxation enthusiasts. Visit the modern aquapark in Bešeňová, where an interesting water slide tower has been added, or head to the most famous aquapark in Slovakia, Tatralandia. A variety of pools, water slides, whirlpools, and water jets are the best thing you can treat yourself to after a great day of skiing.

Accommodation options in Račkova dolina are exceptionally wide-ranging. The local campsite is popular, and for more demanding guests, several mountain hotels are at your service. Further accommodation options in the area are offered by the villages in the foothills, where you can choose from various private rentals or guesthouses.

Račkova dolina is a well-known hiking destination, yet its slopes remain relatively undiscovered. If you enjoy undisturbed skiing in beautiful surroundings, you don't have to look any further.

Bešeňovské travertíny

Bešeňovské travertíny

Bešeňová

A unique creation of nature, Bešeňovské travertíny, represent interesting limestone formations that were formed by the precipitation of mineral and thermal springs. They are located in the Liptov region, near the village of Bešeňová, in the district of Liptovský Mikuláš. Beautiful travertine mounds, cascades, and other uniquely coloured formations stretch across an area of 3.18 ha. The play of colours in these unique natural phenomena transitions from almost white, through yellow and orange, to red or brown. Mineral water still flows down the travertine cascades, adding a beautiful shine to this natural spectacle.

Bešeňová is one of the few places in Slovakia and even in Europe that can boast the occurrence of freshwater limestone, or travertine. This is formed by the precipitation of water with a high calcium carbonate content under suitable temperature conditions. And since the water in Bešeňová contains magnesium, sulphur, and iron in addition to calcium, Bešeňovský travertín attracts visitors not only with its interesting formations, but also with its beautiful colours. The travertine field is located a few hundred metres north of the village and consists of four separate units: Červená terasa, Kaplnka, Bazén, and Biela terasa. Its easy accessibility makes it a great day-trip location for anyone who enjoys unusual natural phenomena. Tourists, active seniors, and families with children alike enjoy coming here.

The beauty of the travertine captivated not only visitors to Liptov, but architects as well. Polished travertine slabs adorn the Univerzita Komenského building in Bratislava, as well as the Palác národov in Geneva, Switzerland. It was precisely the golden-yellow travertine that was used for these buildings, which you can admire in its natural beauty at the edge of the quarry, in the Kaplnka section. Bešeňovský travertín was also used in buildings in many other European countries. We can mention, for example, France, Germany, or Belgium. This indicates that we can undoubtedly call this natural phenomenon of Liptov world-class.

Liptov repeatedly convinces us with its natural beauties that it is well worth spending a holiday in this region. If you decide to take a trip to Bešeňovské travertíny, be sure to combine it with a visit to the nearby Archeoskanzen Havránok, one of the most significant archaeological sites in Liptov, or with a swim in the extremely popular Vodný park Bešeňová. Days full of unique experiences in Liptov will surely be topped off with perfect relaxation. The accommodation offer near Bešeňovské travertíny is truly varied. Accommodation in Bešeňová includes cosy guest houses, as well as popular cottages and chalets. Accommodation in Liptovský Mikuláš in turn appeals with excellent accessibility to local attractions and popular trip spots. Enjoy your holiday in the beautiful surroundings of Liptov this year.

Roháčske plesá

Roháčske plesá

Zuberec

Roháčske plesá belong to the most touristically attractive places in Západné Tatry. They rank among the most beautiful locations in these mountains. The four Roháčske plesá tarns (Veľké, Druhé, Tretie, and Horné Roháčske pleso) are surrounded by massive Tatra peaks such as Rákoň, Volovec, Ostrý Roháč, Plačlivé, and Baníkov.

The lakes are located at an altitude of 1,562 to 1,719 meters above sea level and are connected by the Roháčsky potok stream. The tarns can be reached from Chata Zverovka or from the central parking lot Zverovka - Spálená dolina.

The best way to see this area is to set out along the Náučný chodník Roháčske plesá educational trail. The trail starts in Roháčska dolina, continues through the junctions Šindľovec and Adamcuľa to Ťatliakova chata and Ťatliakovo jazero, and further through Smutná dolina all the way to Tretie Roháčske pleso. It is a medium-difficulty route, 7 kilometers long with an elevation gain of 620 meters. Eight information boards are placed along the trail; in addition to the tarns, they are also dedicated to flora and fauna, avalanches, and water. The trail is accessible only seasonally from June 15 to October 31. Up to Ťatliakova chata, the path is designated as suitable for wheelchair users.

Interesting flora occurs in the surroundings of the tarns. For example, the very rare plant narrow-leaved bur-reed (ježohlav úzkolistý) grows there, which, apart from certain Tatra tarns, cannot be found anywhere else. Among animals, chamois or marmots can be spotted.

Benches and wooden tables are placed around Roháčske plesá, serving for rest and the consumption of your own snacks. Those who arrived without their own provisions will appreciate the services of Ťatliakova chata. A short detour leads from the educational trail route to the 23-meter-high Roháčsky vodopád waterfall.

If Roháčske plesá are the goal of your trip, you will certainly appreciate accommodation in Zuberec, which is an ideal starting point for this excursion. The most common type of accommodation facilities are cottages and wooden chalets, but cozy private accommodations, guest houses, or hotels are also available. Any group of visitors is guaranteed to find what suits them best, regardless of whether you are a family with children or an outdoor school group.

Stanišovská jaskyňa

Stanišovská jaskyňa

Liptovský Ján

Stanišovská jaskyňa is the only cave open year-round in the Liptov region. You can find it in the Nízke Tatry mountain range, in the charming Jánska dolina valley at the end of the village of Liptovský Ján. From the village, you can get here on foot with an approximately 60-minute walk, or by car or bicycle. You can park directly in front of the cave, making it truly easily accessible.

The cave is an ideal place for discovering underground places, especially for families with children, seniors, or beginner hikers. The terrain is not demanding, and the guide engagingly explains various interesting facts from history and the field of speleology. Stanišovská jaskyňa is open to visitors every day of the year. The tour lasts approximately 45 to 60 minutes. Always check the visitor rules and price list on the official website of the cave prior to your visit.

The full name of this natural monument is Malá Stanišovská jaskyňa. Out of a total length of 871 meters, 177 meters are accessible to the public. Its spaces were explored in 1974, and no archaeological or paleontological findings were discovered inside. However, an interesting feature is the numerous inscriptions on the walls left behind by past visitors. The oldest inscription dates back to the end of the 19th century.

In the cave, you will also discover a copy of an Obo shamanic site. An Obo is a sacred structure made of natural materials, which usually stands on mountain peaks, near rivers, or at other significant locations. It is an ancient custom from the regions of Mongolia, China, and other eastern countries. Lamas built these sacrificial sites to honor the spirit guardian of the given place.

Throughout the year, various events are prepared in Stanišovská jaskyňa, where you and your children can try, for example, moving through tight cave spaces, basic climbing, or traditional food preparation. Children in particular, however, will be absolutely thrilled to discover the mythical realm of Aghartha. Diligent cave explorers have so far discovered several entrances to this mystical underground realm.

In addition to Stanišovská jaskyňa itself, explore Medvedia štôlňa in Žiarska dolina, Mincovníčkovo - Podzemie Pod vežami in Liptovský Ján, and Permoníkovo in Podbanské. From each visit, you will take home a precious coin, and during your last visit, you will also receive a rare coin of the Realm of Aghartha.

The Liptov location offers truly many interesting places worth visiting. We recommend visiting the nearby healing thermal spring Kaďa Liptovský Ján, refreshing yourself in the summer at Termal raj Sorea, visiting Hrad Liptovský Hrádok, or the fallen heroes' monument in Lesopark Háj-Nicovô, from where a breathtaking view opens up over the town of Liptovský Mikuláš and the Liptovská Mara reservoir.

If you long for cave spaces again, Demänovská jaskyňa slobody and Demänovská ľadová jaskyňa in the village of Demänová are certainly worth a visit. On our portal, you will find many accommodation options near Stanišovská jaskyňa or accommodation in Liptovský Mikuláš.

It is located in the geomorphological sub-region of Ďumbierske Tatry, on the main ridge at the border of the Žilina and Banská Bystrica regions, on the boundary between the districts of Brezno and Liptovský Mikuláš.

Chopok is often just a transfer station before continuing a hike further. The most common steps of hikers lead from it to Ďumbier and to Chata M. R. Štefánika, subsequently continuing through Králička to the Čertovica pass. The main peak is located above Kamenná chata pod Chopkom. However, it also has a second, secondary peak located west of the rotunda.

Right near it is a meteorological station. Its measurements, which began on December 1, 1954, provide interesting information not only to tourists. Thanks to it, we know that the average annual temperature at the summit reaches only -1.1 °C. The maximum temperature of 22 °C was recorded on August 9, 2013, and the minimum of -31.5 °C has not been surpassed since January 17, 1963. Moreover, Chopok is considered one of the windiest places in Slovakia. The average wind speed reaches 9.3 m/s, and on April 14, 1988, a speed of up to 51 m/s was measured, which translates to more than 180 km/h!

Chopok is a sought-after peak by tourists in both summer and winter, which it owes not only to its breathtaking panoramic view, but also to its great accessibility. Hikers can comfortably ride up right below the summit by cable car from both the northern and southern sides. The aforementioned circular view captures many mountain ranges of central and northern Slovakia, the Nízke Tatry peaks, and of course, the Vysoké Tatry. If the weather favors you, you will even see the Chočské vrchy, Poľana, Veporské vrchy, Stolické vrchy, Oravské Beskydy with Pilsko and Babia hora, Oravská Magura, Krivánska Fatra, Vtáčnik, and even the Hungarian Kékes.

The youngest tourists love Chopok thanks to the dragon Demián. An impressive statue by the artistic blacksmith Vladimír Eperješi depicts the most powerful guardian of the Demänová treasures. His eyes are inlaid with semi-precious stones, and his scales are hand-forged. His heads spew both fire and smoke, and in the throat of one of them is a copper bell. When you ring it, you will summon good luck. Whether it is a myth or a fact, it is at least worth a try. Embark on a family adventure along the Dračia cesta na Chopok (Dragon Trail to Chopok) and help the little dragon find a happy ending to the dragon story. An adventure diary will accompany you throughout the journey, and a reward awaits the clever ones at the end. And if you do not believe in fairytale dragons, try taking a closer look at the unusual pile of stones at the summit. Do they not remind you of a sleeping dragon?

In winter, the slopes of Chopok are unrivaled among the best in Slovakia. Depending on which side of Chopok you are on, you can choose a resort where you will enjoy great skiing. The northern side offers the resorts Biela púť, Otupné, and Záhradky, while the southern side offers the resorts Srdiečko and Kosodrevina.

Access to Chopok is very good; the easiest way is to board a cable car or chairlift and ride all the way up. However, several hiking trails also lead from the cable cars. Following the blue hiking trail, you will go from Demänovská dolina through Luková, starting the ascent at the popular Vrbické pleso.

Along the green hiking trail from the recreational resort Tále and Trangoška, then along the yellow hiking trail to the summit. Along the red hiking trail, either from the west along the main ridge from Dereše, or from the east also along the main ridge from Ďumbier. The yellow hiking trail leads from Tále through Dereše.

Mountain sun, a great view, superb accessibility. All this applies to the peak Chopok, which, if you have not visited yet, you should definitely fix. Whether in summer or winter, on foot or by cable car, alone or with a great group of friends, we leave that up to you. What you can rely on us for are the pages accommodation Jasná and accommodation Brezno, which contain a wide selection of accommodations so that you can fully enjoy your trip experience without rushing home in the evening.
