Mestský vláčik Štúrovo

Štúrovo

If you have decided to spend your summer holiday in Štúrovo, we recommend taking part in a great attraction that enjoys popularity among visitors of all ages every year. Return to your childhood days and take the unique opportunity to ride a historical motor road train. A bonus is the cheerful driver who will entertain you with his funny pirate antics. The Štúrovský vláčik train will guide you through the town and also take you to the nearby Hungarian town of Ostrihom. You can treat yourself to this great experience during the summer season, seven days a week, from early morning until late evening.

The Štúrovská cestovná agentúra, which owns the train, offers you 3 different routes during which you will discover the most beautiful places in Štúrovo and Hungarian Ostrihom. You will best get to know the popular southern Slovak town, heavily visited by tourists, if you choose the Okružná jazda Štúrovo. During the half-hour ride, you can view well-known and less frequented locations or make the ride special with a sightseeing cruise on the Dunaj river. Beautiful views of the Pohorie Burda mountains, Ostrihom, and Štúrovo will be offered to you from the deck of the BALU excursion boat.

Another great option to make your summer day more pleasant is to visit Ostrihomská bazilika, which is also known as the Katedrála Panny Márie a svätého Vojtecha. The largest Hungarian sacral building spreads over an area of 5,660 m². The basilica was commissioned by the first Hungarian king, Štefan, who founded an archbishopric here. The temple, which is clearly visible even from the Slovak side, was consecrated in 1856. Its interior hides rare oil paintings as well as the largest altarpiece in the world painted on a single canvas by Michelangelo Grigoletti. You can reach the Hungarian sanctuary across the steel Most Márie Valérie bridge, which is named after the daughter of Austrian Emperor Franz Joseph I.

You can soak up the atmosphere of the former Hungarian capital also at the Tradičný ostrihomský trh market, which is set up on Simora Jánosa street. In addition to fresh domestic vegetables and fruit, the vendors will offer you hand-crafted products such as wicker baskets, folk clothing items, as well as quality wines and sweets. Hand-made ceramics or a wooden product will certainly be a wonderful memento of your visit to Hungary. You can participate in the market shopping on Wednesday and Friday mornings.

By agreement, the train will drop you off in the center of Štúrovo, which is full of diverse restaurants and stylish pubs. The sweet teeth of your little ones will certainly be delighted by delicious ice cream, cotton candy, and excellent pastries. The program for the following days will be taken care of by Termálne kúpalisko Vadaš, which is visited annually by numerous Slovaks and foreign tourists. You can find the largest offer of accommodation in the immediate vicinity of Štúrovský vláčik on our page accommodation in Štúrovo. You can choose from a variety of stylish apartments as well as spacious cottages and chalets located just a few meters from the swimming pool. Make your stay in the most visited town of southern Slovakia more pleasant by visiting the mysterious Rozprávajúca skala Štúrovo or by enjoying the magnificent view from the Rozhľadňa Kravany nad Dunajom lookout tower.
